What causes lower back pain when lying down?

I have been having throbbing lower back pain, but only when I lie down, for about a month. At first it was just uncomfortable but now it's actually very painful and I have to keep moving around to get comfortable for bed and when I lie on the floor flat my back begins to throb. I have a doctors appointment in a few days to talk about this but I was just wondering what everyone thought could be causing this?

1. All I can think of where the pain gets worse when lying down is...
Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of arthritis that causes chronic pain in the lower back. The pain is made worse by sitting or lying down and improves when the patient gets up. It is most commonly seen in males between 16 and 35.
