What causes a sharp headache thats not continuous but its on and off? I feel it for about 3sec then disappears?

the sharp headache occurs on my left side and its as if it occurs in beats, somehow in rhythm with the heartbeat. mostly it comes in 3 to four beats then stops and at times comes back after a minute or two.

1. omg your so not alone that same thing happens to me!

2. This sounds most like the 'jabs and jolts' of migraine. Even if you do not have migraine headaches, you can experience these symptoms. If they occur very frequently (for example, daily or weekly) a preventative medication could be tried (Elavil, Depakote, Topamax, beta-blockers) - but most people don't feel the need to treat a headache that is so short-lived.

If these headaches are severe, daily, and occur many times per day - then another possibility is idiopathic stabbing headache. This is a rare headache but it can occur up to 50 times per day.
