Should I be worried about pain in the back of my knee?

For the past week or so I have been having some knee pain in the back of my knee. It only hurts after I have had my knee bent for a long time, like when I am sitting down, and either get up to walk or try to straighten my leg. It is a sharp shooting pain. Usually the pain goes away after I walk for a little bit or keep my leg straight. Is this something I should be worried about?

1. Yes, this can be something to worry about because it can be an indication that there may be a problem with the posterior cruciate ligament (the ligament in the back of the knee), but this is an example only.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation.
