How can I treat knee pain that only occurs while running?

After running for about 3 years, I had to stop running in 2007 due to knee pain. (The pain would only occur when I ran.) I started running again 2 wks ago, but the pain came back. What could it be? How can I make it go away?

1. Have it checked out by an Orthopaedist or Physical Threapist. The condition that causes the pain is still there. It could be anything - Patello-femoral syndrome, osteoarthitis, et. al). Only your doctor can know for sure then you will know what to do for it.

2. Get your knee checked out - knee pain is nothing to play around with - a torn meniscus means surgery -- You may have to settle for low-impact exercise instead --

3. I had the same thing happen to me.. It could be the articular cartilage was injured, but even if cartilage heals slowly it should of healed in a year!
But maybe it did not, or maybe you have knee bursitis.. You should see a Doctor..
By the way.. I had a one month break from running and the pain went away, so might be a different case for me.. Yours sounds more serious.
