My husband has pain in lower right side toward the back..?
My husband has severe pain in the lower back right side , like where his kidneys are at. It hurts him to walk and breathe and he has the feeling of needing to move his bowels. he drinks alot and I'm concerned. He has high blood pressure also. Any ideas what it might be?

1. It is probably a kidney stone. Or the stone may be in the ureter. He should have a CAT scan to be sure, especially if it goes on for a few days and doesn't go away. He might pass a stone. You could have him use a coffee filter to strain his urine for the next few days, and he might be able to retrieve a stone. They could then analyze it and tell him what chemical he has too much of, such as calcium. Then the doctor can advise him what kind of stones he has, and he would then avoid that kind of food in the future.
The bowel thing, that could be constipation. Both conditions can be caused by insufficient fluids in the body. Alcohol actually dehydrates a person's body, so he should start drinking more water, to counteract the effects of the alcohol.
