What are some alternative methods to treat fibromyalgia?
My mom has had Fibro for 3 years now and is on TONS of pain killers. I worry a lot about her liver and quality of life on them and wonder what alternative methods there are. She is allergic to lyrica so please don't leave a ton of posts about that drug. Serious answers only please!

1. Typically, Fibro is related to depression, particularly in women. She may find that talking to a counselor may help her overcome the underlying causes that are contributing to the problem.
2. There are actually a few that have helped many people (including my Mom, who also has Fibromyalgia). You could try D-Ribose, Magnesium, a good B Complex (B-50 is usually adequate), Malic Acid, Methionine, and/or TMG (Trimethylglycine).
I would personally suggest adding only one of these to your regiment every month or so, just to see how your body reacts to each one (so you can see which ones work well and which ones don't help). Good luck!
3. call probiotics and beyond the girl you will speak to has your problem and is knowledgeable
4. topically, essential oils containing fir.

Herbs:
Echinacea, Astragalus, Burdock Root, Dandelion, Red Clover
Ginkgo Biloba.
Dietary:
Eat a well balanced diet of 50% raw foods and live (fresh) juices. The diet should consist of mainly vegetables, fruits, whole grains, raw nuts and seeds. Do not eat meat or dairy products as they increase inflammation- increasing pain; and interfere with circulation- increasing fatigue.
Eat 4-5 small meals per day, and drink plenty of filtered water, herbal teas and juices.
No caffeine, alcohol, sugar or honey, as they increase fatigue.
Avoid green peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and white potatoes. These contain solanine, and may increase pain or discomfort.
Rid your environment of chemicals: cleansers, detergents, pesticides, perfumes, air fresheners etc. Health food stores and large grocery stores carry natural alternatives.
Get moderate exercise and plenty of sleep.
6. Hi there, I am a Reiki practitioner and I have been working with a lady with fibromyalgia on and off for a couple of months - we have seen fantastic results, she has very little discomfort now and no disturbed sleep due to pain anymore. After the first treatment she said she had the best sleep she had had in many years and woke up with no pain for a change. I will still be treating her as often as possible as she still has a wee way to go , but the results were instant .
7. Massage seems to help those suffering with fibromyalgia. I have a client who comes for therapy once a week and she says it provides some relief from pain and helps her sleep better.
8. the other recomended medsa re the SNRI (Cymbalta, Savella)--although they do seemto help some--there is more hype than hope...
there are otehr aniseizure meds besides lyrica--talk to teh doc about it
REAL FMS is a neuro disorder--so you need to look at regulating the neuro system
you can ask at a GNC about homeopathic supplements taht regualte the neuro system
FMS IS NOT RELATED TO DEPRESSION--although tehy co occur often
Diet and Exercise (like the vitamins suggested) don't really treat FMS--if you are cured by it--you didn't have real FMs--
BUT---optimizing your body using diet, vitamins, exercise will help your body deal with FMS and may reduce--but not eliminate the symptoms...
