Lyrica - - does it work on an "as needed" basis?

I've recently been prescribed Lyrica for Fibromyalgia, after taking it for 1.5 weeks, I experienced major swelling, especially in feet in legs; therefore, I've stopped taking the medication as prescribed.

Yesterday I was having sharp nerve pain in hip, with nothing else to take, I took one capsule before bedtime and the pain has subsided. Will this medication work on an "as needed" basis or does it need to build up in your system?

1. I have Fibromyalgia and have taken Lyrica. I feel it can be taken on an as needed basis. In fact I would recommend that so that you don't build up the tolerance to it.

If you have any further questions please let me know.

2. I take 100mg of lyrica 3 Times a day for sciatica pain caused by a herniated disc at L4/L5. It can be taken on an as needed basis though. I know this because it makes me very drowsy sometimes and if I have something important to do I won't take it. So to make a long story short it does not have to build up a level in your system to work.

3. Yes, I believe it can. I would however, take it for 2 or 3 wks to get it into your system real well. That way, when you need to take it effect it will do so efficently.
I've been taking it for about 5 months now and I am really happy with it. Compared to what I've taken in the past.
Good Luck, I hope you get the relief that you need.
