I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, was given Lyrica and Ultram until my pain clinic appt..?

After two years of wanker doctors and specialists, countless un-needed surgeries, lost jobs, excruciating pain, loss of friends and being treated like a drug seeker... I was sent to a Neurologist for chronic migraine. After taking about 9 pints of blood (not really but felt like it) and running a $h!t load of test, he says, "Mrs. Rose, of course, you are in pain, you have fibromaylgia". I cried tears of joy and fear. Joy that I finally know what I have and fear b/c this is a debilitating disease. But he told me it could be treated. He said if I didn't have an appointment at the Pain Management Clinic in a week, he'd give me Oxycontin but he said the casper report would fu<k that up and the pain center would boot me out. So, he give me 180 Ultram to be taken 6 times per day and Lyrica to be taken twice per day. The Lyrica was written on a green "narcotic" 'script. Is it a narcotic? I didn't think it was?? And I'm scared to take it. Anyone have experience with this drug. Thanks

1. Lyrica is not a narcotic. It works specifically on nerve pain like Neurontin.

LYRICA is the first treatment that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the management of Fibromyalgia.

2. Hi there, and congratulations for finally jumping through all the hoops of trying to get a diagnosis. I went through all of the same things and it is was and still is a shock!!!
Anyway, Like Dee who answered above me I didn't think that Lyrica was a narcotic either, since I had been taking it for the past 6months. But when I went to re order my 90 day supply the pharmasist made me get a new prescription because it has been added to the "Narcotic" list as a schedule IV drug.
It probably needs to be since in the side effects listed on the fact sheet that you get it plainly states "This medication can cause you to feel high". I have never seen that on any other sheet. lol

I am in Pain Management and take both Ultram and Lyrica along with another Narcotic drug 4 times a day for pain. I think that Lyrica is the best new drug out there and It did take a week or 2 to get used to it but I have never gotten results like I do with anything similar that I have been prescribed. I am very happy with it.
I have been taking Ultram now for almost 2 yrs and it is a very effective drug as well and once you do get to pain management they will likely keep you on it to enhance any other pain medicine that they will start you on.

Your doctor is right about being on any other Narcotics, especially Oxy, a pain clinic will not touch you, so stick it out
if you can because getting into a Pain Clinic is worth it. After 4 yrs of extreme pain and suffering, they finally have it all under control and are always willing to work with me if I need adjustments. It took me a while to get used to them because I was so used to being treated like a drug seeker that I thought they where setting me up or something. lol

Good luck to you and I hope you finally get the relief that you need.
