1. I do some volunteer work at hospitals. I'll tell you I dont take this drug, but SO MANY patients are on this. It must do some good if so many patients are being put on it.
2. I have not personally tried it, but some of my readers have. You can read their comments in my recent fibro newsletters. Go to www.fms-help.com/newsletters.htm - type Lyrica in the search box. Then use Alt-F to find Lyrica mentioned on each page.
3. I take Lyrica. I have been taking it since before it was approved by the FDA for treatment of fibromyalgia. It is not a new drug. It is a anti-convulsant that has been used to treat neuropathic pain. It was being used off-label for fibromyalgia before it received FDA approval. There are many other drugs currently being used off label for fibro. Back to Lyrica. It has made my pain manageable. It has not taken it all away, but it has gotten it down to the point that I can live with it. Also, it has helped me sleep. Presently I take 150mg at bedtime and 50 mg in the morning. Most meds make me drowsy and I am not sure I can take more than 50 mg in the morning, although I know of some who do. Lyrica was the first medication that helped my fibro in any way. It has dramatically improved my quality of life. The downside is that it causes weight gain. I don't like that about it, but balanced against the benefit I have to say it is worth it.
4. Yes, I have tried Lyrica but unfortunately for me it didn't help at all. I take other medications instead but it is tricky to get them to work at times. Do not get discouraged though, there is alot of research being conducted now and you need to find a good doctor who will keep trying different medications until one or more than one works for you.
5. I am currently taking it. I was recently diagnosed with fibro in June and my family doctor was so confident that this is what I am suffering from t hat he felt it was good to start on this right away. It does help with my pain but the thirst and fatigue are greater.
