What could be causing knee pain?
I get knee pain in both knees when standing up after sitting on the floor. This doesn't occur when I'm sitting at a desk or on a couch, unless I have my legs bent up next to me. I get up, they're stiff and sore and I have to stand for about 30 seconds and it passes. The doctor isn't sure - he's done xrays and I don't have arthritis. I'm 46. Has anyone ever had this? Thanks.

1. I've had that every once in awhile. For me it wasn't arthritis either ( I am only 18). I went to the doctor and they checked them and said most likely I just have weaker joints..which is why the hurt when I sit and stand up. For me I could also hear this weird sound coming from them when I moved. The doctor told me to do certain moves everyday like streching and supposedly that would help. I did them for awhile, never saw any changes, and later just stopped doing them. It's been awhile and the pain has gone away by itself.
By the way, it could also be from an injury when you were younger that is acting up now. Have you ever injured your knees before?
2. Sorry, just old age catching up w/you. It just gets worse. I am way older than you....gradually you will learn what not to do in order to keep from having pain. There will be more and more positions that will cause pain, so you will learn to give them up. I have had 2 knee replacements already... murder. First one at 59.
3. See your health care provider as soon as possible. If the knee is unstable and wobbles or if it cannot be straightened out, you need a doctor. This is also true if the knee is red or hot, which suggests the possibility of gout or an infection; the knee is the joint most frequently bothered by these serious problems. Finally, if there is pain or swelling in the calf below the sore knee, you may have a blood clot. More likely, you have a baker's cyst. These cysts start as fluid-filled sacs in an inflamed knee but enlarge through the tissues of the calf and may cause swelling quite a distance below the knee. You should see your doctor for this condition. And good luck.
