What causes knee pain in 11 year olds?
Public Comments
1. do you play sports?
2. osgood schlatters disease...its weird to pronounce but my friend shane had it when we were growing up...google it
3. Not very specific, but it could be what I have.
I started getting it when i was about 10 or 11.
Something called Osgood-Schlatters (I think?)
I don't know what causes it, to be honest i just know i have it severely and the doctor said i may have to have it ground down.
I have lumps underneath my kneecaps. I got it at that age and thought it was just knee pain.
Sorry for being a bit vague, but i hope i helped. xx
4. I would say either a sports injury or pre-puberty "growing pains". What physical activities are you involved in that could account for the pain, or have you otherwise injured it lately?
If it is chronic (lasts longer than a week or so) or severe (interferes with or prohibits normal activities), it's time to go see a doctor. Start with a family practice physician, and he/she will refer you to an orthopedic specialist if necessary.
5. sports
6. My son had the same symptoms, and my late husband, as a kid, did also. None of his sisters did, both of his brothers. Doctors were not able to name a specific syndrome, and sports liniment rubbed well in helped the pain, with oral paracetamol as well.
Both my son and husband grew to be very tall - as did his brothers - and one doc said that he has only observed this in tall boys. You may like to check this against whatever is shown on the websites.
But my son has had no pain since he was 12, and he is an avid sportsperson who is able to play all games athletically, so it isn't something that affects adults.
7. You probably run too much.
