I would like to know what is the best medication regimen for fibromyalgia

Public Comments

1. I take Cymbalta (for depression and pain)
Ativan (for sleep and anxiety)
Ibuprofen(regularly for pain)
A daily multi-vitamin
and most important exercise!!!

2. the most promising treatments are neuro in nature
cymbalta(SNRI antidpressant) is approved for FMS
Lyrica (anti seizure) is also approved--

they are the only 2-

other meds are used off label--
NSAIDS (ibuprofren) have limited effect as there is NO inflammation in FMS---

I have tried all the classes-muscle relaxants did harm--no good
narcotics didn't touch teh pain

the cause of the pain is the neuro system--NOT the musculoskeletal system-so drugs that target the muscles tehmselves have limited success

tramadol is an SRI type (neuro) med that works on pain---it took the edge off the pain for me

3. I have been trying a natural supplement called Fibro Care, also Valerian Rest for sleep. The Valerian Rest works very well, as well as prescription Lunesta, I think.I don't think I have been on the Fibro Care long enough. The website says to take it for at least 6-8 months before you should be able to tell if it's helping. The website is www.e-tyh.com. They have natural supplements just for people with fibromyalgia/chronic pain. I also have restless leg syndrome so I take Mirapex.

4. I used to be on many medications to try to control the symptoms but ultimately the side effects of each medication made me feel much worse.

All I take now is some Robaxacet and Gravol usually at night time as they have drowsy effects which helps me fall asleep. I also take antidepressants and go for a massage every 2 weeks to keep the headaches to a minimum and relieve some of the tension in my back.
