I was in a car accident and 6 months later I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.?
The car accident occured in April '07, I was t-boned by a woman who was pulling out of her driveway in reverse who wasnt paying attention. Ever since then i have been suffering from upper/lower back pain, neck pain, and severe migraines.
I completed 3 months of Physical therapy and it did not help. I now have to use a neck traction unit daily for my migraines. I've had to use muscle relaxers, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatory meds since the accident. The rehabilitation specialist says she believes I now have Fibromyalgia because of all the symptoms and problems i have had. I did not have this problem before the accident and i am being represented by an attorney for the case. How would something like this effect the outcome of the case? Would it be good or bad? Is there a cure for it other than pain relievers? Please serious answers only. Help! (I was not at fault for the accident.)

1. Your bones have been displaced. Go see a chiropractor. He can fix it for you.
2. If you have medical evidence of upper spinal injury/trauma, you might have a case as this is one cause of fibro. I can't predict the outcome of your case. Run a search for fibromyalgia and learn more about it.
3. Cymbalta is being prescribed for fibromyalgia and has worked for me.
4. Your focus is the litigation and physical relief.
First fibromyalgia is a new, less than 10 year old entity to describe a cluster of symptoms and signs that occur primarily in women.
It appears to be a very real disease entity but the cause is unknown. It is also used as a "waste basket diagnosis" for the aches and pains of middle aged women, misdiagnosing other real and treatable illnesses.
Do you have fibromyalgia and will it affect your court case?
Trauma is known to bring about the onset of fibromyalgia so it does not matter from a legal point of view most probably if the suffering is from damage to your spinal column and vertebral nerves and CNS or from fibromyalgia brought on by the accident.
That said: With all due respect, an off the cuff comment by a physical therapist reaching for a justification why PT is not producing progress is hardly a diagnosis. Frankly it sounds motivated by the desire to rationalize the PT and a PT is not a physician.
Diagnosis and relief?
The Top Gun for a workup and diagnosis for fibromyalgia starting point would be a Reumatologist.
But the starting point following trauma with back pain and migraines is neurologist and osteopath who actually specializes in osteopathic theory and technique. This cuts through a great deal of going in circles.
If the problem is being caused by actual correctable spine and spinal nerve displacement(s), particularly in the atlas and axis cervical vertebre, and problems down to and including the sacrum, the DO who specializes in being a DO is going to find it and correct it, and the neurologist is going to get a baseline of neurological function changes if the DO does not find and literally cure the cause at the root.
So here is a workable plan of operation:
1. Go to a DO who is a real DO (Specializes in Osteopathic theory and technique, preferably in a Osteopathic Medical School Department of the Same or call them and ask for a Osteopath near you they recomend)
The reason that is first is to rule out or treat something treatable to get relief- if treatable with that it will correct the migraine also.
2. Go to a Neurologist for baseline and migraine work-up.
3. Last of all, go to a Rheumatologist for complete work-up on fibromyalgia.
You may well get a good solution with the first.
Below is a discussion of the fibromyalgia but rather than get bogged down with the one thing we know least about how to correct, I encourage you to start where the most logically and frequent problem and correction lay.
Note: I do not recommend taking this to a chiropractor who cannot prescribe medication by definition. Minor back aches fine, but post traumatic complications -absolutely not.
5. I'm not sure I can offer immediate help, but I can offer you a source that might alleviate your migraines and possibly any side effects from your car accident. It's found in a book I just read called The Brain Trust Program. It's all about the brain and how you can take simple steps to improve your mental functions and stem migraine headaches written by Dr. Larry McCleary.
