Constant knee pain - Any knee specialists out there?! Anyone with similar symptoms who can give me advice?
I have had constant pain in my right knee for around 10 months. The pain is quite mild most of the time but gets worse with exercise, walking for long periods or sitting for long periods. It feels very uncomfortable to bend my knee out to the side. There is no redness or swelling. I have seen 2 GPs and a physiotherapist and all ive been given is painkillers and advice not to do any strenuous exercise but no diagnosis or solution. I used to b very active but any excercise other than swimming is now too painful. Im 23. Any advice would b much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. I think you need to push your GP further... ask him to refer you for x-ray and/or MRI scan. I had problems with my knee and it turned out I had torn my cartlidge... Absolute agony - had cartlidge removed 12months later, still suffer now and again but much better than spending the 18months on crutches!
2. So you have seen a Doc and PT with no diagnosis or help. Have you thought about seeing a Podiatrist? Reason being, my right ankle gave way to '?' probably Arthritis as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. However this was not picked up on until I went to my GP and said 'I have some very weird feelings somewhere between my waist and knees. Then I went to PT and then they did some tests and wanted a x-ray of my ankle, but my Doc refused? Next the disc went in the back. Since then I have now just got corrective insoles for my shoes, as the weird feeling from knees to waist was in fact the problem with my ankle, which if had been noted and dealt with, I would still have the disc in my spine. Yes, we do correct problems, but only after further damage. Therefore get your walking gait and feet alignment looked at, just in case and save a lot of pain should this be the underlying problem. Best of Luck
3. Anterior cruciate ligament damage , maybe very common knee injury in females , confirmed by MRI scan , you could your GP for a referral , or look up symptoms and narrow your injury down
4. You definetely need an X-Ray and see a orthopedics!! don't delay it, knee is very important and you might have serious problems in the future. If possible see a private doc darling. I saw 5 GPs and they were useless and by the time i saw a private doc it was too late..
Try not to take too many painkillers as they're no good!
get well soon..
5. Had similar pain for years and thought it was my knee.
After x rays it turned out to be pain radiating from my hip.
It is worth checking out as i ended up with hip op.
Either way better getting x rays taken.
Ask your doctor to refer you to local hospital.
Good luck
6. without knowing exactly where abouts the knee pain is its hard 2 say.if the pains at the top of the knee and gets worse with exercise, climbing stairs and is especially painful when sat for long periods with the knee bent it sounds like chrondomalacia patella(google it).very painfull and it doesnt show any significant swelling.if the pains on the outer part of the knee you might have a slight tear in ur cartlidge(lateral meniscus .if the pain is in the inside of the knee it could be a tear in ur carlidge (medial meniscus).symptoms of this are locking of the knee or feeling like you cant bend it.id put money its 1 of these problems.forget any 1 telling you its a cruciate ligament or ruptured tendons because no physio or doctor on earth would misss these and the pain would be indescribable.what you need to do is tell ur gp that exercise is your life and the pain you are sufffering is having a real negative effect on you wellbeing and its getting you down as you are not able to enjoy the sports you once did.change your doctor if need be but dont be flobbed of with excuses and demand something be done.i was told to rest of given antiinflammatories by 2 different doctors and went 2 c a phsio who dint help.eventually after many appointments and me making a nuisance wiv my gp he eventually sent me to c a consultant and lo and behold..i was told i had 2 torn cartlidges and chrondomalacia patella.keyhole surgery and plenty of rest and phsio later im back 2 90% of wot i was and the pain has almost gone.so hassle the docs till you get the service and answers you want.no one knows there body better than yourself.best wishes mate hope every thing goes ok.
7. you need to insist on a diagnosis-it could be arthritis - but you need a diagnosis in order to treat it properly
