Knee pain. Can you suggest cause?
Please don't say 'Go and see Dr.' as that is the obvious thing to do in the end and any intelligent person will not take an opinion on 'Answers' as an absolute diagnosis. The pain is so sharp it is like an electric shock and lasts just a fraction of second usually during rest or change of position. no loss of movement or other symptoms. Just wondered if anyone else had this and what they found was the cause. thank you for all polite answers.

1. In my case, it was a torn meniscus. The pieces hit nerves at times when the knee is flexed.
2. Torn cartilage.
3. electric shock type of pain that comes and goes would suggest to a neurological problem: maybe a trapped nerve or neuritis type of thing, could also be sciatica. Since you don't mention any accidents I don't assume there are any and since I don't know about your activities, no good guesses there or if you have trie any pain medication and if it has helped. Sorry to be so vague I hope you'll get it sorted.
4. Sounds like you could have a torn meniscus which won't heal it's self but it will gradually get worse. You will need to eventually see your GP who should refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon who can repair the meniscus with you as a day case. I know a few people who have had this procedure and have been completely cured after even after putting up with the pain for several years. Go and see your GP its the only sensible thing to do. Good luck.
5. Sounds to me like you've got some trapped cartilage which is catching as you bend your knee. I had this fixed by an arthroscopy (key hole surgery) about 15 years ago and have had no trouble with it since (I run everyday). I also take Glucosamine which plumps up cartilage tissue and stops aching joints especially good for knees and hips, but that's more achy than sharp pain. You'll need to see a doctor for an arthroscopy, as it is very dangerous to do it yourself. LOL. Good luck!
6. Could be a tumor that is pushing against a nerve when you move.
That was my first symptom of my GCT.
NOT saying that is what it is; but it could be.
