When I was about 10 I started having really bad pain in my knee, and later on in my hip?

A doctor told me it was because my knee joint was growing at a different rate from my shin or thigh bone (I can't remember which). He did give me a medical name for this but I can't remember what it was, any help?
Also he said I would grow out of it by the time I was 21, that was 3 years ago and still painful. Been having really bad hip pain recently as well, any help/advice/diagnosis much appreciated.

1. I think the non-medical name is just "growing pains". It happens to many teens as their bodies and bones grow in different stages. If it keeps bothering you talk to your doctor when you go for your yearly check up.

best wishes..

2. Treatment for growing pains
* massaging the area
* stretching
* placing a heating pad on the area
* giving ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Never give aspirin to a child under 12.

Or could it be transient sinovitis?
What is transient synovitis of the hip?
Transient synovitis of the hip joint is a condition that occurs in childhood causing hip pain. The cause of transient synovitis is not well understood, but it may be related to a viral illness of the child. Transient synovitis tends to occur in young children, between the ages of 2 and 9 years old.
Children who have transient synovitis of the hip usually recover completely. Children with transient synovitis of the hip should follow-up with their doctor to ensure all of the symptoms have resolved.

You need to make an appointment with your doctor who will examine you and if necessary refer you to an orthopaedic specialist. We can only make guesses.
I'm probably older than your mother and have had intermittent hip pain since my teens. Nothing abnormal discovered, it comes and goes.
Good Luck
