Sudafed PE (sinus headache) during pregnancy...SAFE??

hey i've been having these really bad headaches for the past week. i've been taking tylenol but it doesnt seem to work. i just brought me some sudafed. i'm 17 wks pregnant now. earlier during my pregnancy i was prescribed sudafed for nasal congestion. that had pseudoephedrine in it. the meds i just got does not contain that but it contains acetaminophen (what tylenol has). but anyways....i was just wondering if the sudafed i just brought was safe for me to take since tylenol will not work???

1. It was prescribed to you during your pregnancy? Ask the nurse on call

2. I personally wouldn't take any medication with out checking with the doctor first. You don't want to do anything that could harm your baby. For the best interest of you and your baby I wouldn't get your answer here. I would let the doctor know what symptoms you're having and see what they can give you for it. Hope you feel better soon.

3. I have a list of meds from my doc. that i should and should not take during pregnancy and for sudafed it says not to take until after 16weeks.......But right now i have a nasty cold and i bought some robitussin pe yesterday... thats on my list and i also asked the pharmacist to recommend something and she also recom. the robi.....but be safe since your still your early weeks! although im 32weeks im still so afraid to take the medicine lol...good luck ma!!

4. No, sorry to tell you but unless a doctor tells you it is safe do not take it. Besides that the active ingredients are acetaminophen and Phenylephirne. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in tylenol so takeing this does not make sense since it does not work for you any way. However, the danger may come from taking Phenylephirne or the combination of taking Phenylephirne with Acetaminophen. Unless your doctor says to take it do not take it. This is what is in Sudafed PE. The Sudafed containing pseudoephedrine may be worse for the baby, the key is to ask your doctor for what is safe. Try other methods of releiving your sinus headache if Tylenol is not working like a warm washcloth over your eyes while laying down or cold ice pack. taking anything orally should be approved through your doctor.
