Are chronic headaches during pregnancy normal or an indicator of something more serious?

I am in my 2nd trimester and I have been experiencing headaches all the way through my pregnancy. I also started getting migraines. I drink water, rest and take tylenol from time to time but they are always recurring. Anyone experience this? Or know if this is normal?

1. not the migraines, but i do have headaches ALL the time!! the dr says its one of the 'symptoms' of pregnancy...you should still tell your dr tho cause they might want to get it checked..

2. I am 36 weeks and getting them too. I actually have an appointment tomorrow with my OB/GYN. I plan to ask her this very question. I will post on here tomorrow what she tells me, I will edit my question, so check it tomorrow. Hope you feel better and hang in there.

Just make sure to drink a TON of water, it seems to help.

******EDIT****** JUST GOT BACK FROM APPOINTMENT! I ASKED MY DOCTOR IF IT WAS NORMAL AND SHE SAID "COMPLETELY NORMAL". YOU CAN TAKE TYLENOL TO GET SOME RELIEF.

-Hope you feel better!!!

3. I'm at 10 weeks and just got out of the hospital for chronic migraines. Talk to your doctor, they may want to rule out some other things, but they can give you some pain meds that are safe for the baby to help you make it through.

4. ya it is a pregnancy symptom I would ask your doc what kind of medicine you could take for head aches

5. I have been having bad headaches since my first trimester. They could just be due to hormones, or could be a side effect of low blood sugar or high blood pressure, or Anemia.Tell your obgyn about them.

6. It is a pregnancy symptom due to all the hormones, but can also be an indicator of something more serious. Have you talked to your ob about it? It is important to make sure your bp is normal.

7. Headaches are very common during pregnancy. Somedays I wouldnt even be able to hold my head up b/c it hurt soo bad. Talk to your doctor about this, I had low iron during and after my pregnancy. That can cause headaches.

Just talk to your doctor to be sure things are okay. Atleast it would ease your mind and let you know the things that you can do to make things better.

8. I had headaches from mid-2nd trimester through the start of the 3rd. There wasn't a lot that my doc could do but recommend pain relief and rest.

Definitely speak with your doctor about it.

9. Yes i did experience that headaches allllll the time i felt bad like i was taking so much tylenol that it was going to effect the baby..... but they eventually stop. like right when i told my dr about them they stopped. If i were you talk to your dr it can be preclampsia or something else just when you go to your dr appt let them know everything that goes on even if you may sound repetitive.

10. I, too, experienced this. It can be frustrating because you want to enjoy this time and having headaches leaves you, well...blah!

My doctor told me that they were due to hormones and the fact that I was anemic. I was put on a different prenatal vitamin with more iron and met with a dietitian with my first pregnancy. The headaches continued for about a year after I had my son; but I think they went away once I lost all of the weight that I had gained.

You might still want to check with your doctor as there could be other causes. I wouldn't worry too much if you don't have any vision problems, numbness, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, or other symptoms (other than normal pregnancy symptoms ;)

I hope this helps... hang in there!
