What could be causing severe pain in my lower back and pelvic area?
I have severe lower back pain that often leaves me unable to even walk. I also get pain in my pelvic area. These symptoms tend to worsen just before my period and when my husband and I are intimate. I've had a pap done about a year ago when I started having these symptoms, but it came back normal. Any suggestions or similar stories will be greatly appreciated.

1. You may have an infection in your bladder or kidneys or in another organ. I suggest going to the doctor and asking them to run different tests because a pap smear will not tell you if you have a kidney or bladder infection.
2. Possible a bladder infection , or possible your bladder has slipped down into the back of your vagina, this could cause the pain you have. It happens more to women who have several children. I would have another check up and tell them what your symptoms are.
3. Well, the severe lower back pain may be a kidney infection. The combination of the two symptoms you mentioned could be from a UTI, Urinary Tract Infection. I can sympathize with the pain felt in your pelvic region because I have experienced something similar when my husband and I are intimate. I asked my doctor about it and he said that most probably you are about to start your period and your uterus is swollen from the body going the process of readying the body for the implantation of the egg. Your body does this every time no matter if you are on birth control or not. It is just part of it. Anyway, your muscles contract during intercourse, and with it already being highly sensitive due to the period symptoms, it makes those muscle contraction even more irritating or painful. I don't have an answer as to how to cure it. I just hope that your husband is as understanding and caring as mine and will be patient with you during the painful times. Reassure him that it isn't him, and maybe even tell him what I have mentioned. Good Luck !!! Take some Motrin!!! :-) Drink lots of water and stay away from caffeine....it tends to make your body more bloated and your glands more sensitive.
4. it could be that you have an infection or you may want to be checked out for endometriosis. i had severe pains in my pelvis area and also pain in my lower back. after about a year of unbelievable pain i finally had a dr that checked me for endometriosis and voila...i do not suffer that pain any longer.
