What causes severe headache and subsequent nausea?

I am more interested in the medical aspect, what really happens in my body to create this pain. And why does nausea and vomiting come into the picture?

Suffered a splitting headache yesterday which I suspect originated from dehydration after a gym class, but even though I drank loads of water afterwards, the head ache only got worse and I started feeling sick. The headache actually escalated after a few hours. If dehydration was the cause, why didn't drinking water help?

Thanks for serious answers.

If you did, you would probably suffer from a mild case of heat sroke accompanied by dehydration.
Nausea and vomitting are natural reactions of your body to a severe headache. If you really want to know the mechanisms of how it happen, I am afraid it might be beyond your scope of understanding.
