Why do i get a sinus headache after using the neti pot?

I used it this morning and had a sinus headache shortly after using it. and then in the afternoon I got a really massive sinus headache.

Is this normal or what?
I didnt make the saline solution, I bought at the Pharmacy.
I use 1 package for 8oz. water per nostril.
Here is what the pre-mixed package has in it--all natural, usp grade (99.9%) pure. Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate. The solution is ph balanced and isotonic., no iodine or preseravitives. To be used in 8oz. of water.
The water was little warmer then tepid, but not much more. Where do i find a syringe for this? I have just seen squeeze bottles and the neti pot.

1. It might be two reasons: too much or not enough salt in the water. For each 4 cups of water you need about 1 teaspoon of salt.

2. Do you know how much salt is in the packet? It should be 1 tsp salt to 2 cups of water. Too much or too little can be irritating but what temperature was the water? The temperature should be tepid-- barely lukewarm. The syringe type of nasal irrigation is much better than the neti pot for sinus infections or any type of sinus problem. You may have gotten the second sinus headache because the neti pot didn't work.Or possibly a rebound effect from the change in the blood vessels. I would definitely try again with the syringe. It has worked for me and many of my patients. Nurse Kindheart

3. If the saline isn't the wrong concentration(as the other answerers mentioned) then you nay have irrigated too vigorously. netti post are supposed to rinse the nasal passages, but it you do it too strong the saline might actually get into the sinus cavities and not be able to run back out and cause pressure.
