Other than tablets what is the best pain relief for back pain?
The problem is a slipped disc and they are unable to get out of bed at the moment

1. there is a band you can wear which is supposed to relieve back pain for a good couple of days - think it is therma-something.
2. i purchased a tens machine for back pain,it works wonders.

6. there is a machine to buy called a tens machine your gp will give you more info. It uses small eltric shocks to stimulate your nerves in your back

11. i have had a slipped disc many times over the years and laying in bed is possible the most counter productive and painful remedy for me. i do not use pain killers as the remove the pain and allow me to twist in ways that the would not allow if you feel pain. so my advice is to take a mild anti inflammatory such as nurofen,get some heat into the whether it be with rub,heat packs,or hot shower and walk around a little every half an hour remember the pain and swelling are natures way of preventing it from getting worse and when your body is ready the swelling will subside and the disc will re locate itself. but please do not lay in bed and pop pain killers you will only make it worse but moving the wrong way try my way and you will as good as new in 3 or 4 days

13. Hot/warm water will help. I think you can buy heated pads etc from the farmacy (that you pop in the microwave etc) or a good old fashioned hot water bottle will do the trick at allieviating some of the discomfort/pain.
14. I like to use ice when I have a sudden (acute) attach of back pain. If the area feels hot to the touch, then ice for 20 minutes every hour will help:
1. reduce the inflammation that is increasing the pain
2. numb the nerve to reduce the pain level
For low back pain:
Lying flat on your back with your knees bent also helps some people. It flattens out the curve in your back.
I also like to roll over onto my stomach and prop up on my elbows--**for only less than 5 minutes** because this can aggravate the injury.
For mid back pain: (between the shoulder blades)
stretch the muscles in the chest. They oppose the back muscles that are painful and are usually the culprit in upper back pain. Think posture. Rolling the shoulders forward while sitting all day over stretches the upper back muscles and contracts the chest, this leads to pain in the upper back and neck.
For neck pain:
placing a rolled up towel under the neck while lying down helps relieve some of the tension in the neck muscles.
Getting a Chiropractic adjustment also helps me a lot. After the inflammation and swelling goes down, massage also helps a lot especially if you can find a therapist that specializes in pain control. Ask about license and experience.
15. Well I was going to suggest a heating pad until I saw that your friend has a slipped disc. There isnt to much more that you can do other than take the pain meds. Sometimes positioning can help, have them lay in a position that gets pressure off that area. Otherwise, most of the time, slipped disks require medical intervention. Good luck.
16. Years ago I had two disc's out,you never forget that pain!!! and I had three children at home,when I got out of bed I used to go down the staires on my bum,It was over six months before I could get on a bus,I used to stay clear of people incase they pushed me,
The doctor put me on Paramol 118, but they made me feel sick,in the end I just put up with the pain,my husband booked me in to see this
man who had just retired from working at the hospital,and he put my disc's back for me, I was bent over,he really hurt me when he put them back ,but the pain went with in a month.

17. There is no medicine in the world to treat back pain. May it be any pain acupuncture is the only treatment. If it is sciatica it needs a skillful therapist; otherwise think visiting us or go for surgery.
18. I suggest Physical Therapy. Sometimes when the skeletal system gets messed up, the best thing you can do is strengthen the muscles to help cary the load so the joints don't have to do so much.
