What are some pain relief options for a detereorating disk in the back(other than surgery no insurance)?
My mom in law is 63 years old with no health insurance what are some things she can try that may give her some relief?

1. medical mariuanna
2. im a physical therapy aide, and i would suggest stretches i no it sounds like it wont help but if she does them regularly it defiantly can. the disk is causing swelling and tightness in the muscles in her back and which along with other things is causing the pain, use heat first then stretch your back and your legs( look up hip stretches on line i know its not a hip problem but trust me) then after use ice
3. Aqua therapy has been the best treatment for my back pain thus far. If you can find a local pool (preferably heated,) this may be a good option for relief. Just being in the pool takes the weight off of the joints, and the warmer temperatures help to relieve muscle spasms.
I alternate between heat and ice depending on what helps at the time. Lumbar supports (a rolled towel works) help me as well.
4. She can try the following:
Liquid aleve caplets as directed (great anti-inflammatory)
Alternate heat/ice packs (a bag of frozen veggies make a great ice pack)
REST as much as possible
Some stretching, as tolerated, as described above
An over the counter product called "Thermacare" is a great way to get to the core of the pain- It is like a heating pad without an electric cord and lasts up to 8 hours
Deep Massage Therapy
Hope this helped a bit. Good luck and take care! I commend you for caring so much for your mom in law! It is criminal how all people cannot have insurance!
5. Try one of these REALLY WORKS!!

I have been using one for my feet pain for three days now... when I zap a few times the pain is gone. But me I still need to walk so pain comes back... But with each time I zap the pain is less severe.
And the pain is almost GONE in my right foot. Working on my left foot now...
Or she can try a magnet back brace that helped my back a few years ago.
