Lower back pain! Please help...need GOOD EXERCISES for relief?

Last Monday my lower back started to hurt and I was wondering what I should do to relieve it? When I walk it doesn't hurt too much . I stretch it a bit. It mainly hurts when I sit and want to get back up.
What are good exercises to help relieve the pain?

1. ooo my mum broke her back 3 times. she used to special excercises and some ceramic compresses. they help soothe the pain :)

2. Here are some good examples:

I have occasional lower back pain related to a partly-herniated disc. My insurer would not pay for an MRI or physical therapy, so I put myself on a home exercise program similar to the exercises above.

Cold compresses or ice packs to the painful area also work well, as do anti-inflammatories.

Back pain that lasts longer than a month should be evaluated by your physician. If you're diagnosed with a herniated disc or other vertebral injury and have insurance, a Physical Therapist can show you a good Home Exercise Program.

3. believe it or not walking is very good for your back. After I had back surgery the doctor told me to walk and stretch. I was also given a workout program. Leg lifts are done by lying down and lifting your leg straight up without bending your knees.

4. I injured my lower back years ago and July's suggestions are really good ones. Especially the second ones. Just be very gentle when you do them. The idea is to stretch not pull.

5. I tore muscles in my lower back playing soccer and it took a while for them to heal properly. If it hurts wrap a blanket around your waist or put a hot water bottle on it to help it heal.

My physio said that walking and swimming are the best exercises you can do for your back. Stretching is good too but don't overdo it until it has healed cos if you have torn the muscle you run the risk of pulling it more.

6. NOTHING EXCEPT YOG.
