1. YOU are probably straining yourself. You have the false belief that more and longer exercise is better for you. This is not necessarily true. Once you have become tired, the whole positive side of exercise is 'thrown right out of the window.' Stop at the moment that you feel tired. Peace!

2. You need to do two things

Fix your posture

Work out your back specifically

1. Practice straightening your back out till your nice and strong feeling. Shoulders back and stomach not doing extra work. When lifting weights, always keep a straight tight core/back and never round your back.

2. Do some back exercises: Goodmornings, hyperextensions, deadlifts: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?MainMuscle=Lower+Back

Many times people report back stress and pain when they do not work their back and work their abs too much. One side of your body is so strong and pulling on a weak side.

3. You are most likely not performing the exercises correctly - if you are using weights you could be using too high a load and if you are using machines, too high / strong a tension.

Start doing a less stressful workout and see how it goes.

Hmm - just thought - do you do sit-ups? If yes, a lot of people do these the wrong way and this can cause neck and back pain. Speak to a gym instructor for a demo on how to perform them correctly if this applies to you.
