lyrica fibromyalgia Knowledge Base
Has anyone tried the drug Lyrica for Fibromyalgia? I am interested in finding out if any one here has experience with the drug Lyrica for Fibromyalgia. It's a drug that is intended to reduce nerve pain. I would also be interested in any experiences with any other related drugs too in the same family (nerve pain). Thanks. I am currently on a narcotic and do not wish to continue with it. I am looking for an alternative.
How well does Lyrica work for Fibromyalgia? My doctor gave me 75mg of Lyrica to take at bedtime for Fibromyalgia. I'm curious if anyone can tell me if they have taken this low dose and if they saw any improvement in the stiffness of joints and muscles. Everything I've read so far was relief after taking 150+ mg several times a day. Thanks!!
Has anybody taken Lyrica for fibromyalgia? Does it work? Does it give energy? Does it help sleep? I've been taking it for a few days. I'm sleeping better and have more energy. Is this in my mind or is it working for anyone else? Has anyone gained weight on this medicine?
Has anyone suffering chronic pain from fibromyalgia or any pain causing condition tried Lyrica? I've just begun research into the side effects. I've read users reviews and they vary widely. From hair loss to nervousness to many getting pain reduced tremendously and good restful sleep. If you suffer side effects does the good outweigh the bad? How long have you been taking Lyrica and what daily dosages? I'm asking in case it may be something that will help with fibro pain and a better quality of life.
Which one is better? Lyrica or Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia? I am just looking to reach out to people who may have tried one or both of these medications for pain. Which one deserves a higher rating? I just started on Lyrica and the side effects don't seem to be too bad. My pain has decreased about 25%-35%, which is significant, but I was just curious about Cymbalta too.
Lyrica for fibromyalgia. Has anyone tried it? I am currently taking Cymbalta and it gives me some relief but the side effect of heavy sweating is really a nuisance. I am wondering if Lyrica works well. The one side effect that worries me is weight gain, I'm plenty big already! If you are taking Lyrica, please tell me about your experiences. Thanks.
Lyrica for Fibromyalgia? My doctor just put me on Lyrica for my fibromyalgia.... The problem is I don't have insurance and it cost me almost $400 a month. I was wondering if anyone else with fibromyalgia is on Lyrica and how it was working for them. If it works I will stay with it but if it doesn't then I will ask him to write me something else. Another problem is it takes at least a week to work. I want the pain to stop now! Please let me know. Thanks!
Lyrica and Fibromyalgia: Has this worked for a long time for you? I have had a very good experience with Lyrica, however finding an appropriate dose level is hard. Since I have Fibro and also some severe pain at points including the right hemisphere of my skull where a car side vision mirror hit me, I have found that only Codeine takes care of bad pain days for a right hemisphere attack, however Codeine is hard to justify here in the US, but it is over the counter in Australia. I have used ultram and aleve to bridge the pain management gaps. Any tips on how Lyrica has worked for you, and how you coped with other pain issues, specifically for me, it was after I was hit by a Car ( I was a pedestrian) in 1991. I don't know if this whole issue is degenerative for me, but to stop some neurological based tremors, I also use Clonozapam. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks. I have seen a Neuro( several) and a Rheumatoligist. I was given some blockers for the Head injury, but that stopped when they got annoyed when another treatment did not work. I think that the whole treatment is being affected by something underlying. Lyrica works, with ultram, aleve, and clonozapam at the moment, but my bad pain days are still bad, but mainly due to lyrica, I have had more good days than ever before. I'm off for a Cortisone shot. My Lyrica Doseage is being up to 150 twice a day. Hopefully I can get into some more physical rehab, I am beginning to suspect I have Sciatica, but it could be more of the Fibro. Also, since I get fatigued easily, I will ask about CFS, but I am assuming I will get the run around. Ah well ... any day above ground is a good day... will be better when my XBox 360 I won arrives :-)
Fibromyalgia, Lyrica, Omeprazole, High thyroid... Please help I know something else is wrong...? I'm 15, f, 127lbs diagnosed with fibromyalgia and taking lyrica, which makes me feel super dizzy nauseus, zombied, icky. Also felt like i was having heart attacks doc said the acid in my tummy was eating away at a muscle behind my heart? Taking Omeprazole, same effects as the lyrica. I just got my blood tests back and I have high thyroid stuff. I'm always in pain, exhausted, nonstop worried, and constantly getting sick. Does anyone have any advice? Idk it feels like some other weird thing is going on.... My mum has guienne barre and her dr really listens, but it's not like i can drive up there on my own, so I do still have a lot of unanswered questions. i don't know what the thyroid stuff means for me, and I don't feel any better from the lyrica. I have a high fever fluey symptoms right now so I have to wait even longer to get another blood test. Thank you for answering, I was afraid that nobody would know what i was talking about or care... I'm on depo, can that affect the thyroid stuff maybe? I can't stop the lyrica, I think monday I should be better flu/allergy wise and I'll do another blood test to double check. What would the treatment be for the thyroid stuff and if i dont have fibro what is the lyrica doing to me? Also, would I be allowed an antianxiety pill? I can't stop worrying and stressing out about everything
Fibromyalgia and Lyrica? I am newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have been given lyrica. I was just hoping to find out how some other folks are feeling after taking lyrica. Does it help? Side effects? What else do you take? What other medicines have helped in the past? Thanks a bunch!
Lyrica and Cymbalta for fibromyalgia? I have been taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia for about 6 months now. I do not feel any better. My doctor has just put me on Cymbalta to help with it too. Has anyone had any relief taking these meds together? I just don't want to pollute my body for nothing. Also I have hypothyroidism and was thinking that the symptoms I am having are thyroid related. I asked my Doc about being put on Cytomel because while my TSH is normal (it was 243.42), my T-3 is low and always has been, but he said the Cytomel won't help because my pain is from fibromyalgia. Any input on either concern would be great. I take Levothyroxine .3 for my hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's).
How quickly does Lyrica control fibromyalgia pain? I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have been experiencing a great deal of pain, obviously, both now and prior to the diagnosis. I have been to the emergency room twice when the pain was so severe I thought I was going to lose my mind. (I had back labor with my daughter and also had a forceps delivery...the epidural did nothing for my pain...worst pain in my life and the pain I am having now is either the same or worse than labor!) I am taking pain meds now (oxycodone 10/325 w/apap) 3 times a day and some days it barely contains the pain. I will begin Lyrica tomorrow but wondered how long will it be before it takes effect?
Lyrica & Fibromyalgia questions? Had FMS for almost 20 years now, tried almost everything. I'm considering Lyrica but I'd like more info. Is Lyrica in the "steroid" family? If you go on Lyrica for a while & see no improvement with pain, is going off of it a big deal like with other med's, or can you simply just stop taking it? I take Ambien, will that have any interactions? I'm seeing my Doc about this at the end of the month, but I was hoping to get some personal experiences about it. Thanks for any thoughts! I've been on Ambien for many years, it's the ONLY thing that helps me sleep. I've tried several other sleeping aides. Like I said, I've had FMS for 20 years & have tried many treatments, so Lyrica is yet another option I'm considering. Thanks for your answers, keep em coming!
I Just Heard a Drug (Pfizer) Advertised, Lyrica, for Fibromyalgia, has Anyone Out There Have Experience With-? -this Drug? From their Website: LYRICA is the first and only FDA-approved treatment that can help relieve fibromyalgia pain. Fibromyalgia is one of the most common chronic widespread types of pain in the U.S. It can make daily activities difficult. Thanks amielou, but Looks to me Like Another Big Parm. Company Cashing In On a Condition, I Suspect it is Not Inexpensive. Thanks Dani C, but I'm Not Considering Using it for Myself. Thanks Medicine Woman and DNA G, Consistent With my Very Little Reading About the Drug, 6 Weeks?, Sounds Like a Antidepressant. Thanks K, I Looked At Lyrica More Closely, it Acts Though a G-Protein Coupled Receptor (Like Antihistamines), So, I Suspect Whatever Action it has, it isn't Forever, Like Antihistamines. m r, Like CFS? "Depression"? Some Might Find this Interesting (From Wikipedia): Receptor regulation GPCRs become desensitized when exposed to their ligand for a prolongued period of time. There are two recognized forms of desensitization: 1) homologous desensitization, in which the activated GPCR is downregulated and 2) heterologous desensitization, where the activated GPCR causes downregulation of a different GPCR. The key reaction of this downregulation is the phosphorylation of the intracellular (or cytoplasmic) receptor domain by protein kinases. [I Suspect Another Regulation is Going On: Receptor Expression, One Can Envision to Scenarios for this: Agonism. Atagonism, A Cell Making Fewer Receptors for Ligand or More.] I'm Sorry, Two Scenarios.
Has anyone tried the new medication that came out for fibromyalgia. It's called Lyrica.? And if you have tried it, have you had any side effects? Me, I had pain in my ankles, my body was feeling achy and very sleepy. I thought that this pill was suppose to relieve the pain. Not make you feel worse. Also, I was not concentrating very well on things. I had to stop taking it before I got worse. Now I have to wait for something else. I was hoping that this pill would of relieve the pain. Thankyou very much for your answers. May God bless all of you and Happy Holidays.
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, was given Lyrica and Ultram until my pain clinic appt..? After two years of wanker doctors and specialists, countless un-needed surgeries, lost jobs, excruciating pain, loss of friends and being treated like a drug seeker... I was sent to a Neurologist for chronic migraine. After taking about 9 pints of blood (not really but felt like it) and running a $h!t load of test, he says, "Mrs. Rose, of course, you are in pain, you have fibromaylgia". I cried tears of joy and fear. Joy that I finally know what I have and fear b/c this is a debilitating disease. But he told me it could be treated. He said if I didn't have an appointment at the Pain Management Clinic in a week, he'd give me Oxycontin but he said the casper report would fu<k that up and the pain center would boot me out. So, he give me 180 Ultram to be taken 6 times per day and Lyrica to be taken twice per day. The Lyrica was written on a green "narcotic" 'script. Is it a narcotic? I didn't think it was?? And I'm scared to take it. Anyone have experience with this drug. Thanks
I have fibromyalgia and my doc just put me on lyrica today. What am I looking at time wise for effectiveness? I have been on Ultram for 2 years and I'm tired of taking it and am actually having to take a medication so my body can with drawl from the Ultram. So know my doctor has me on Lyrica and Welbutrin for the Fibromyalgia so I'm wondering when I might start feeling some relief. The one benefit of Ultram is the relief is immediate, but it's not worth the with drawls or physical dependency your body goes through. does anyone have any advice, tips, or insight on when relief is expected? I'm taking 75mg twice a day of the Lyrica and 100mg once a day of the Wellbutrin.
Do u have or no anyone who has Fibromyalgia? and tried the new drug Lyrica for it? I'm almost 26 and have had FMS for 5 yrs now. with the news of a medication specifically designed for FMS mnade me happy, however im afraid to try it..ive gotten so many mixed results from other meds n i can't go thru more experimental meds so im asking if anyone who has Fibromyalgia has taken the new drug Lyrica and how is it? also if u have FMS have u tried Kadian and Fenatyl and if so, how were they? thanks to all who seriously answer..... thanx gilian, i'm afraid to take Lyrica becuz on meds ive overdosed, seized, puked, lose balance, lose memory, shake uncontrolable, jerk and lose appetite which has effected my weight! I take Tramadol for pain mixed with Zanaflex and Trazadone to sleep. Fioricet for migraines and plenty different multi vitamins. The only one that works is the Fioricet. The other pills only work on a high unsafe dose and mixed with tylenol or a vicadin. thanx justme (under gilian) i to know FMS is not Inflammation but i didnt touch on that. i was worried about the weight gain from Lyrica. my worst pain is my wrists in the morning and ankles and top of feet, i can never just get out of bed n walk normally i have to work my way upright and walk on back of feet til the pain settles n i adjust but thats just a small portion of the many symptoms i have...thanks for the info!
Lyrica - - does it work on an "as needed" basis? I've recently been prescribed Lyrica for Fibromyalgia, after taking it for 1.5 weeks, I experienced major swelling, especially in feet in legs; therefore, I've stopped taking the medication as prescribed. Yesterday I was having sharp nerve pain in hip, with nothing else to take, I took one capsule before bedtime and the pain has subsided. Will this medication work on an "as needed" basis or does it need to build up in your system?
Did Lyrica take away your fibromyalgia pain completely? I have been taking 300mgs a day for several weeks, and it has taken away all but my lower back pain. My muscles are still stiff, and this one feels like it just shouldn't be working. Hurts constantly. I take 1 to 1.5 Tramadol and 2-4 Ibuprofen together for it, and it still hurts. Just wondered if I'm still feeling a bit of the Fibro or something new. She gave me Fioricet to take with my migraine meds and I wonder if that would be more effective. Will be going to the doc soon, but not soon enough! Thanks in advance.
I just started Lyrica today for my Fibromyalgia and............? I just feel dizzy and a little lightheaded, but the pain is still there? I dont understand, so now, not only am I in pain, but Im dizzy too. When can I expect this to start working? I take 150 mg. for the first week, then starting the second week, I am supposed to take 2 a day (300mg). Does anyone know if this is a good medication? I dont know when to expect the pain to lessen, I hope its soon though.
What have you heard about the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue clinics? Are they a god send, or a rip-off? I am a Registered Nurse who has had fibromyalgia for almost 3 years. I have been seeing an internal medicine doc the entire time. Besides prescribing pain meds, antidepressants, a muscle relaxer and Lyrica, my doc really hasn't been able to improve my health status. I have a pharmacy of meds to take every day; and I just think we are putting a band-aid on the symptoms, not treating the cause. I am almost positive I am also dealing with myofascial pain syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome. That is a little history, so here is my question. Has anyone had any exposure to the Fibro and Fatigue clinics? I am aware they test for a LOT of problems and they do unconventional treatments that work for some people. But my problem is the cost of the visits. I was told it is almost $400 a vistit for the 1st two visits. On top of that, it is cash up front, and they can't even file on your insurance. Why is that? But then again, I would gladly spend $800 to get my life back.
Have you tried that new fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue med? Lyrica( spelling may be wrong) is the first fibromyalgia drug approved by the government. It sure seems to help the pain. Since Chronic Fatigue and Fibromaylgia are considered to be the same, try it for chronic fatigue too. Have you tried it and did it work for you?
Does anyone with fibromyalgia have any experience to report with Lyrica? I have FMS and my doctor has been trying to get me to go on Lyrica. I have been extremely hesitant due to other reports I have heard in regards to the side effects experienced with this drug. I just want to know if anyone has any experience taking this drug, has it helped you, and what (if any) side effects have you experienced and how severe were they. Also, if you have been on other treatment that has been helpful, I would love to know about that too as I am getting really frustrated with the inability of anyone to help me with my pain.
I have a chronic pain condition which is being treated with the drug Lyrica.? The condition is not Fibromyalgia, but one in which after an injury the nerves in a specific site of the body react unusually to stimuli. Can anyone tell me if this is a condiion that goes away, or is it a permanant condition? Any information would help. I believe it is called Acute Chronic pain Syndrome.Thank you For your help in advance! Lyrica is what he perscribed, but I am trying to just find out more about my nerve condition.
I have fibromyalgia and need some advice? I found out in 11-06 that I have fibromalgia and have been coping pretty well untill recently, about two weeks ago I began having pain in my legs and feet. It is a sore, aching pain and when I stand up it is hard for me to walk, I attribut this to fibromyalgia but dont know how to deal with it nor what to do. I take lyrica, adivan, flexeril, naproxen sodium, and over the counter pain killers but these dont seem to be helping. Does anyone have any advice?
What are some alternative methods to treat fibromyalgia? My mom has had Fibro for 3 years now and is on TONS of pain killers. I worry a lot about her liver and quality of life on them and wonder what alternative methods there are. She is allergic to lyrica so please don't leave a ton of posts about that drug. Serious answers only please!
does that commercial for lyrica make you realize there is a such a thing as fibromyalgia? everytime I see the one where the womans skin looks bruised,I get mad that people never believed me when they grabbed me and I screamed. That spot would hurt for hours...like it had just been done seconds ago. and when they pinched me it would make me think if I cut myself there it would bleed and hurt less. but it didn't . I went on like this from age 9 ! One dr said I was hyper-sencitive and for my parents to warn people...that it wasnt my fault.there was something wrong with my skin...so that helped a little. I am still mad at people that say...oh some Drs don't believe in it. don't they realize if there is a treatment(thats mostly working ) that there is a disease? I am so greatful for that commercial :)
Fibromyalgia...Lyrica? I was taking Lyrica for Fibromyalgia...moreover, nerve pain. Has anyone had any strange side effects from this drug? My doctor discontinued my use of this drug because my symptoms were worse, namely, I was having more muscle spasms.
How long does it take for Lyrica to work? I have been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and have started taking Lyrica. How long does it take to notice if it is going to work? I don't think the people on here are idiots and my doctor doesn't have fibromyalgia so I am trying to ask others who might have the same condition. Thanks for being the smart one on here buddy....
I was prescribed Lyrica for Fibromyalgia...? and at first it was amazing. The pain all but disappeared. Now it has stopped working and I'm back to having horrible, debilitating pain. Anyone have any ideas as to what the heck happened?
Is fibromyalgia and cronic fatigue sydrome alike or seperate? Are the symptoms of fibromyalgia and cronic fatigue syndrome alike? Sorry nutter2b my brain went blank for a few when I asked what it is{cfs} ... I have the symptoms of fibromyalgia and was prescribed lyrica but I am not happy with the side effects of it. I have alot of tiredness, some day's not being able to move much at all. Are there other tests for CFS?
Lyrica for fibromyalgia. I have been on lyrica for 8 months and am experiencing numbness and tingling in the bottoms of my feet. Is anyone else experiencing this problem. I have found that it provides the sleep I need from lyrica I just am finding the numbness is bothering me.
Fibromyalgia medication - Lyrica. Is it really effective? My mother has Fibromyalgia. She takes 80mg of Methathadone per day for her chronic pain(her Fibromyalgia is a SEVERE case), she also takes Lyrica (a low dose, as her doctor told her) and she has been taking Lyrica for about 6 months now. When I ask her if it helps with the pain, all she says it makes her feel as if she's high, but it also makes her nerves tingle(implying that it must do something to the nerves that cause the pain) but she is still unable to tell if the Lyrica is actually helping ease her pain. DOES the medication Lyrica really work? and for those that use it, I would like to know how many mg you take daily.
Lyrica help with the other symptoms of fibromyalgia? Does Lyrica help with the other symptoms associated with fibro? I'm eighteen and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia since I was 16. I find the other symptoms of fibro more annoying then the pain itself like the "fibro fog"/inability to concentrate/extremely tired, Anxiety! and depression. Does Lyrica help with those symptoms as well? I just want to hear from others experience and opinions as well, I'm really excited to try it. . .I really, really hope it works and I can feel like normal young girl again, I can't remember that feeling since the last time I was 15 >.<
