What is the most efficacious treatment for migraine headaches? Migraine headaches is the biggest source of chronic pain. There is however a very thin line of distinction between Cervicogenic, Migraine and Tension headaches. I reckon drugs are the first line of defence however do other forms of treatment like physiotherapy help at all .

Difference between migraine or headache and treatment of such? I've had a headache every day for a week and today was the same. Then about 3:00 I heard some loud music and suddenly my headache was a lot worse, throbbing and I felt really nauseaus. I had to go lie down and my head hurt so bad. Any light and sound made it 3x worse, which I've heard is a migraine. It finally went away about 2 hours later after laying down and taking Excedrin. How do you know the difference between a migraine and headache and is there anything a doctor can do or would he just tell me to take OTC medicine?
Birth control as migraine treatment? I am 36 and have recently been prescribed Yaz in an attempt to control my migraine headaches. I haven't started taking it yet but I was wondering if anyone has had an luck with treating their migraines with birth control? I noticed there were a lot of negative posting about Yaz, but most seemed to be by younger people. I wonder if age plays a factor in how well you tolerate birth control?
Can the dentist's fluoride treatment cause a migraine? Ever since I can remember going to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned, I left with a horrible migraine after the fluoride treatment/rinse. I feel great during the actual cleaning (I am one of those weird people that loves having my teeth cleaned) but once that fluoride rinse or gel hits my mouth I develop a horrible migraine, as well as nausea, and end up the rest of the day in bed? Is there anyone that has heard of this sort of problem and are there any solutions besides taking a pain reliever before I visit the dentist? I have mentioned it to my dentist before, but he didn't really answer my concerns.
New migraine treatment? Have anyone heard of this new natural migraine treatment "Migrowin"?. It's a herbal supplment but i'm not sure if it works or not? have anybidy tried it? do u think it's good or just another scam? check this website for information: www.gurujiherbal.com
Migraine treatment suggestions? I have a rather difficult time finding medications to treat my migraines. Unfortunately, I also have bipolar and this means I cannot take medications such as Relpax, Immitrex, and Maxalt, as they interfere with the seratonin level in my brain and cause mania. Same goes for anti-depressants. Unfortunately, I also have low blood pressure, so it can't be anything that will lower my blood pressure. I've been taking Fiorocet as an abortive (works sometimes,) and I was recently discontinued from Topamax due to psychological side effects. I'd ideally like a medication that can be used to treat both bipolar and migraines as I believe mine are related. I cannot take Lamictal or any other medication that lists memory loss (or something similar) as a side effect. I am very susceptable to that. Please offfer suggestions that I can talk with my psychiatrist and neurologist about, so that I have some idea what is available. I need a daily preventative AND an abortive. THANK YOU!!!
Questions About New Migraine Treatment.? After years of being treated with narcotics (serious ones) for "headaches", I have been finally diagnosed as a classic migraine sufferer and started on Topamax 25mg daily to begin and 400mg B2 daily. Can anyone give me any feedback on this? I will be going in to hospital for 3 days early Oct, to have lignocaigne fed through a drip to cleanse me of the pain drugs, as the neurologist thinks my daily headaches are drug induced, has anyone undergone this procedure or heard of it? He has warned me head wise it is very painful! This is he first time I have seen this Dr and I trust him implicitily. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Jums
Childhood MIGRAINE? Any treatment please? My daughter (7years) has childhood Migraine. She has the problem from her age of 2. We tried many treatments. But no good results. What is the best treatment for migraines? I get chronic migraines and I don't have insurance to see a doctor. If gone through many over the counter pain meds and I usually develop a tolerance to them after a little while. Are there any other, perhaps natural, treatments?
Can you use Topamax and abortive migraine medicines together? I was just prescribed Topamax for preventive migraine treatment and was wondering if anyone knew if you can still take abortive medications (like Maxalt) with the Topamax, or does it have a negative reaction together? What do you do if you get a migraine while on the Topamax?
How can I get migraine treatment ASAP without insurance? My headaches started approx. 10 days ago, and last between 2-4 hours. They are accompanied by severe nausea, photophobia, and are unrelieved with OTC painkillers, caffeine, rest, or cold compresses. They are becoming longer, more frequent, and more severe. I can no longer leave my house for fear that one will arise. I don't know how much longer I can deal with this, but I don't have health insurance and the free clinics in my area have a 2 week wait. Should I just go to the ER and deal with the bill later? The pain is extreme.
What abortive do you use with hemiplegic migraine? I have always suffered from severe migraine. Just recently I have been diagnosed with Hemiplegic Migraine. For abortive treatment I have tried almost everything to no avail (NSAIDS, antiemetics, various steroids etc.) Triptans and ergotamines cannot be taken with hemiplegic migraine because of high risk of stroke. The only thing that takes the pain away is narcotics but no doctor will prescribe them unless I've been suffering for weeks and can barely move. Since being diagnosed four months ago I have went from 145lbs to 99lbs because I'm so sick. Any advice would be appreciated

Any preventative measures for recurrent migraine attacks or treatment when a migraine is already present? I have had a headache/migraine for 10 days now. The reason I slash this description is due to differing levels of severity; The basal headache has not passed for the entire 10 days and I have had 4 severe migraine attacks where I am unable to open my eyes, move from any position without vomiting, hear sounds etc. This is obviously having a detrimental effect on my life and of course looking after my 7 year old daughter. Any ideas, medicinal, homeopathic, dietary or otherwise are welcome. Thanks x x x
Migraine Treatment? I am losing insurance at the end of the month and need treatment for migraines. I can't take triptans because of high blood pressure. I have been taking topamax for almost two months with no result. I suffer almost everyday with one or two migraines. I had a baby two months ago and was diagnosed with pregnancy induced migraines because I never suffered with them before. I don't know how much longer I can go with feeling like this and properly taking care of my baby. Any advise for what to do?
Migraine treatment? I've had migraines for about ten years now. I've been on Topamax, Imitrex, birth control, and a bunch of nasal sprays. Nothing works. Every time I got to a doctor they try to put me back on topamax. Has anyone been treated for migraines with something else that worked when topamax didn't? I'm trying to looking into different treatment options but I'm not sure where to start. I get migraines at least twice a week and they're usually so bad that I can't do anything. I've kept a food diary and there never seems to be any correlation between food and the migraines. My mom and grandma also used to have migraines when they were younger. And I dunno if this is important but I generally have low blood pressure (98/56 was the last reading)
What's the best treatment for migraine? I've had recurrent migraines for over 20 years now and have tried almost everything I know there is. Can anyone give me a safe long term solution for preventing migraines?
Vicodin for Migraine treatment? I am a 21 year old male severe migraine W/ aura sufferer and I have before been treated with triptons to no avail. On my recent attack I remembered I had 2 5/500mg Vicodin pills left over from a dental surgery I had a while back, so I figured "They helped me when I felt like I had knives in my mouth, I wonder if they'll help with me horrific migraine pain". And to my amazement it helped with my pain VERY effectively. My head still hurt, but no where near as bad as it normally does during an attack, and I was able to relax and go to sleep which is the one and only thing that makes my migraine go completely away. I want to tell my doctor about this, however, I won't even bother if he is going to think of me as a drug seeker or if he is going to ignore me. Before you do the same please note, my migraines are NOT daily and a lot of times not even weekly and if prescribed I would only take it when I have an attack. Also note that I have been treated for migraines many many times before with all sorts of triptons and stopped treatment before my doc was gonna prescribe Topamax which is something I will NEVER take because of the horrible psychological side-effects. And I did not have any "rebound headache" that I heard you get from taking analgesics for migraines. So in short I want your opinion on this, do you think its worth telling my doctor? Or do you think he will completely blow it off or think I'm a drug addict?
Please suggest some home-made treatment to reduce migraine headaches ? I am getting severe migraine headaches from the past 6 years. whenever i get a headache, all i do is wash my head under running cold water. but the idea has begun to die. i also got two migraine attacks that just drained all my energy and i was just a step away from paralysis as i am a low blood pressure patient. i heard there is an surgery for it, how much will it cost ???
What is a good treatment for a migraine? That does not involve a prescription drug. I was on imitrex but had to stop taking it because it shot my blood pressure up into the stratosphere. When I lived in Oklahoma I knew a Native American lady who could just touch my head and the pain would go away. I'm not exagerating. She was amazing. But I live in Ohio now and I don't know of any such gifted Native American ladies out here. I'm not putting you on about this. If it had not happened to me I wouldn't have believed it either.
Is codeine a good choice for the treatment of migraine headaches? Obviously stronger drugs would be more effective, but doctors are so hesitant to prescribe anything stronger. Is codeine effective though? Would another drug be a better choice for one reason or another? Thank you. @ cheburaska: By stronger I meant more effective, so better in that sense, not necessarily all around better. I have not heard of your suggestions, but I will look into them. Thank you. sorry, cheburashka. Blame the migraine!
safe and effective fibromyalgia &/or migraine treatment while pregnant? I am now 6 weeks pregnant and had to wean off all my meds where providing great relief. I have been absolulty miserable since. My fibro symptoms are kicking in high gear. I have suffered from severe intractable migraines for 8 years. I thought the were the most pain imaginable...until last night I literally crawled on my hands and knees just to go to the bathroom. Anyway, the best I coulde do before was very high doses of ibuprofen (narcs made me vomit more) and hot baths both are out now. Does anybody know of anything I can do for relief? my ob/gyn insn't very concerned because my pregnancy hormones should kick in soon & bring some relief. I am completely non-functioning and miserable. All my former meds where class c and class d. any suggestions would be helpful. thank you
Migraine Sufferers: Have you ever used botox as a treatment for migraines? My neurologist suggested it and I'm completely turned off by the idea but it is a last resort- so I'm giving it the research the suggestion deserves at least. Any personal experiences? Any unique suggestions that seem to work for you when all other typical prevention methods fail? ***I asked in Pain Management but the Parenting section is where I usually am and maybe someone over here has experience.

migraine drug free treatment? Hi About to embark on my 4th IVF cycle and was wondering if anyone has any luck with migraine treatments that are drug free. I suffer greatly with migraines lasting about 3 days unless I take a zomig. I am dreading it already. Of course have tried the cold press on the neck, back etc. Someone recently told me about eating Kiwi's when one started and it helped a little but I would love to hear from anyone who has any experience of this and has found a food/drink/treatment that has worked for him or her.
