My docs don't know what to do for me. The last one I saw told me he's only seen 3 cases in he last 27 yrs! (optho-neaurologist) I've had many tests done by opthomologists, retinologists, neuro-opth. but they can't see anything wrong.
What causes the Migraine Aura itself? I sometimes have an aura before the pain begins. The appearance of it varies. Sometimes flashing lights, sometimes looks like a shimmer or waterfall that is hard to see through. I experienced one this morning that was annoyingly large and long lasting. Could see it even with my eyes closed. No other symptoms. I took 2 aspirin and went back to sleep, woke up fine. Currently take a beta blocker to prevent migraine, but have had a lot of family stress lately. What causes this personal light show in my head??

Does a severe migraine aura ever indicate something more serious than a migraine? I've had blue flashes and brown spots before, but last night's migraine had very, Very, VERY bright wavy, pulsing-lightning-bolt lines that lasted longer than 20 minutes. I took my medicines and went to bed, but I was scared. I was afraid I was having a stroke.
Do I count as having a history of migraine with aura? I know that women aren't supposed to take any medication or contraceptive with estrogen if they have a history of migraine with aura, but I don't know if I count as having a history. I'm 18 now, and I had about 8 migraines with aura all while I was 13 years old. I haven't gotten one ever since, but I don't know if it still counts as me having a history of them from the standpoint of whether I can take estrogen-containing contraception or not. Thanks so much!

Does migraine aura predict migraine pain? I get ALL the migraine aura symptoms, but last night was VERY intense and the first time I've had the classic electric-white, pulsing, moving, zig-zag wavy lines along with the mood swings, photophobia, phonophobia and muscle weakness. Frankly, I was a bit scared I was having a stroke.
Does anyone else suffer from migraine AURA? If so, I would like to talk to people that experience what I do.

How can I stop Migraine Aura? I don't have a severe Migrane but I tend to have aura.. I am sensitive to lights and have light aura.... How can I stop that?? What are OTC drugs or Vitamins that I can take?? Any experience??
Migraine with Aura. How long have you had them? I have had migraines with Aura for most of my life. I heard somewhere that as you get older they should get less frequent. However, this last year I seem to be getting them more often. About 1 every month and a half where I use to just get a few a year. I think it has something to do with the up and down weather in my area. Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has had migraines for over 25 years and if they have gotten more frequent or less as the years went by.
Why do I get a very weird aura when a migraine starts? I get migraine attacks and I'm 18... When I know I'm going to get a migraine, my feet and other parts of my body get tingly...,my heart speeds up randomly. I smell a weird smell. I get a little light headed and everything just feels weird. Like an out of body experience. Why does that happen?

Does anyone get migraine with aura while on hormonal birth control? What kind of birth control works for people with this condition?
Is this a migraine blind spot / aura or just random? A couple of weeks ago in a lesson at school, I couldn't concentrate as out of the corner of one of my eyes, my vision was blurred. it looked like when your eyes are watering, but they weren't. My eyes were really sensitive to the lights so it was hard not to squint. and I did have a really bad headache for a while that day. But by the end of the day , it was gone. Was it a migraine? and was it an aura or blind spot?
Sudden Migraine Aura? I have been a migraine sufferer for years, Topamax has been a life saver! I neglected to remember it for my vacation (along with all my other meds...I felt like such a dope!) Anyways, I was getting ready to go on one of those 3-D thrill rides, you know where you wear the 3-D glasses and you sit in the chairs and they move the chairs around so you feel like you're in the movie. Anyways, I was standing up in line staring at the screen with my 3-D glasses on and all of a sudden it felt like my eyes were being squeezed together, I was suddenly very nauseous, and dizzy. I was very disoriented. I immediately removed the glasses and looked away from the screen. It was like a very sudden, intense migraine aura. It went away, but I didn't put those glasses back on! I've never experienced anything like it. I plan on discussing it with my neurologist, but unfortunately that appointment isn't until next month. Anyone else?
Question about migraine aura!? A few months ago I experienced what I think is a migraine aura. It just happened to me again. While I'm reading sentences, some of the words sort of disappear and its hard to read. I don't have any other symptoms, and I only get a very mild headache afterward. It usually lasts for about 15-20 minutes and then goes away. Is this normal, and should I get it checked out? According to my understanding, it can be quite common...
What is an "aura" that would precede a migraine or seizure? I recently passed out, or possibly had a seizure, and while doing research found that some people have an 'aura' that precedes the onset of the seizure. For instance I thought I heard a man's voice saying a few words out loud, when I was in a room with only a few other ladies. I heard it clear as day and I thought I was going nuts for a few minutes. Then about twenty minutes later I passed out onto the floor. Is hearing things a sign of an aura? Or was I just going nuts?
Is It Possible To Have A Migraine Aura With No Migraine? I see flashes of white light just flying around sometimes and my vision will go blurry for a little. I was diagnosed with migraines and I also have seizures (been seizure free for 6 years). I get the auras a lot but it never really follows with the full migraine pain. I used to get really bad migraines where I would just have to sit in a dark and quiet room with a moist paper towl over my forehead to numb the pain. I mostly just get these annoying pains that are a little bit worse than a standard headache and only really take place in a single area in my head (back of head, forhead, left temple area, etc) Does this have to do with my migraines or are they just standard headaches? I get them at least once a day. The doctor gave me maxalt, but it is so expensive I feel bad to take it. Should I be taking it all the time for the aura and headache? Do you think this may have soemthing to do with my seizures?
Birth control pills and migraine with an aura? My wife experiences migraine headaches accompanied with an aura (visual disturbance). a while back Planned Parenthood told her she could no longer take regular birth control pills because of this. She is on some other low/no (?) horomone pills and hates them. She claims they make her skin break out a little (which is a small price to pay for not getting pregnant I think). She is going crazy trying to find something else, coming up with all these natural calander charting methods that just don't sound very effective and would make me extremly paranoid. She has also looked into a copper IUD thing and is finding all these horror stories about them. I can't find any info about effective alternatives other than calander/temprature things that sound pretty sketchy to me. Anyone have any suggestions or been through this before? The web site for the plastic IUD thing (minera?) makes it sound like you need to already have a child for it to be an option. Is this true?
Need advice from migraine aura sufferers? I'm 28 and I've been getting migraine aura's since the age of 11. Anyone who has these know how horrible and frightening they can be. Mine start with visual disturbances, numbness, and sometimes confusion. Anyways my doctor suggested Toporol. Turned it down for right now but I would like to know if anyone has tried it and how it worked? Thanks in advance George.....I've suffered from epilepsy as a child and now migraines as an adult. That is simply put the most ignorant thing I've ever read. I used to have 5-7 a year and starting taking a medication that got me consistently down to about 2 a year. Supernatural....SERIOUSLY
Is there a way to make the aura and dizziness at the beginning of a migraine last a shorter period of time? I've been drinking a lot of caffeine lately so I haven't had a migraine in months. This morning, I had a migraine bad enough to keep me from being able to do anything for 20-30 minutes. Is there a way to make the initial migraine go by faster? I missed Spanish class this morning and I don't want it to happen again.
Have a sound and pressure in my head- seizures or migraine aura?? There is a lightheaded feeling and pressure. My tummy feels a little queasy, my heart pumps harder. When I close my eyes, the pressure weakens a bit. I hear a "wah, wah, wah" sound in my ears every time my eyes change their focus. Very strange. I do have history of epilepsy- left temporal lobe partially removed 3/06. Traumatic brain injury 3/07. I've had rather intense migraines since the LTL. These events are somewhat new. I do take Maxalt to ease the migraine- but these sesations began long before I even started on that medication. I'm confused. Does this sound like a migraine aura, a simple partial seizure, or something else? Please help if you can. Thank you!
Aura Migraine? How much longer? Ive had Aura Migraines now for about 20 years every sence I was 7. Now here recently Ive been haveing them more often. About four in 2 months or so, when I usually have them once every 3 to 6 months. long lasting aura migraine? Has anyone ever had an aura from a migraine last longer than an hour? Should I go to the doctor or treat it like any other migraine?
Aura migraine question.? ive been having aura migraines which are migraines that start out with a blind spot in my vision.also known as a classic migraine.ive had them for about 2 years, and ill get them every 3 to 5 months from time to time thus far.hopefully it stays that way.so far i dont get headaches afterword i just get rather tired.my question is,would being to hot cause these migraines.ive probably had 6 or 7,and about 5 of those 7 was right after a softball game.after sweating and being very hot.ive had them out of no where even in the middle of winter.but i was just wondering if being over heated may trigger them or is it just by chance.anyone have any ideas?
Aura migraine sufferers? Hey does anyone gey the migraines where you get blind spots or zig zaggy flashy light etc, and if so do you ever get it, it goes away then an hour later the flashy light think comes back? I normally only get in once in one episode then the dreaded headache, but this time i got two epidodes of the aura vision disturbance. Please advise xx
Migraine with Aura!? Hi, I have suffered classic migraine without aura for as long as I can remember, horrendous headache, pain that is that bad I cant sleep until I am sick, it lasts for a few days, horrible, I have recently been diagnosed with migraine with aura, a migraine known as hemiplegic migraine! I was taken to hospital with symptoms of migraine with aura and the Doc at the hospital told me he thought I had, had a TIA (mini stroke), scary as only 33 yrs old! I had CT scan, chest xray, ECG and blood test. My Doc has taken me off the pill (contraceptive), I can only have a barrier contraceptive. He has prescribed beta blockers which apparently reduce migraines with and without aura, is this true? Does anyone take beta blockers for their migraines? Do they work? Will I have to take them for life? I know I should of asked my Doctor but I was just happy that I hadnt had a TIA and couldnt wait to get home and tell my family. Please help!! Thanks in advance, serious answers only please xx My migraine symptoms are: strange taste in my mouth, smell of burning, numbness in left side of body, mouth droops to left and dizziness. I dont have head pain, just slight ache over left eye. These symptons last between 10 mins to an hour! I had four of these in a week, then I had a classic migraine without aura, extreme head pain and vomitting! Other peoples symptoms may differ to mine! Yes Marcus, I did mention taste to Doc, there was a time they thought my symptoms could be caused by a Temporal Lobe Seizure which is fits but they have settled for Migraine with aura for now!! I dont think they really know, I am due for a MRI scan so that should pick up what it is!! Cheers for your help xx
What can you do to get rid of visual auras migraine auras? Just started when I was taking atenonol blood pressure pills and didn't have high blood pressure thing started happen to my eyes started seeing spots and zig zag and colors please help
What is an opthalmic migraine and have you had one? I experienced this odd visual disturbance like a photography flash going off everything blurred zigzag pattern with light in middle, never had it before and it lasted 20 mins or so, I felt anxious during it, and a bit panicked, but googled it to find it was some sort of migraine aura? and I have a head cold and stuffy nose today. Any helpful comments of others who had this would be appreciated ! ta
What does the aura that precedes some migraine headaches look like? Please describe.? Also, when do you get mirgraines? Does it coinside with any physical or mental events? Do you ever have a mirgraine with muscle weakness and shortness of breath?
Migraine with aura symptoms After?? I woke up with a migraine yesterday morning and took my meds for it (1 Zomig). I was fine the rest of the day, aside from the side effects of the meds. Later on around 5PM I fell asleep for an hour, woke up and my head started to hurt a tad, not enough to make me take another Zomig, but I also had some visual disturbances. A thick line with zig-zags going around it followed by dizziness (I almost passed out so I layed down again). The aura got a little worse, now I could see an electrical field, it was only on the left-most side of my eyes though. It went away a few minutes later. Is it normal to have this after a migraine? I though it was only something you get before? I may have brought the dizzy spell on myself as I am very squeemish - I was looking at various medical explanations online so I think I may have just freaked myself out.
Any answers to Migraine with Aura? I'm 16 and have been suffering from migraines with Aura since I was 11. The migraines were really bad last summer where basically the whole summer I would lay in my bed waiting for the always scary aura to go away and then be greeted with a painful headache and nausea. I cannot find a consistent "trigger" before a migraine, except for the fact that they seem to be worse in the summer. However they are not gone in the fall and winter. I'm at a lose of what to do. I've only been taking medications such as advil, tylenol, and ibuprofen, but they seem to give me little to no relief. I'm at the point of trying some prescription medications and would like to know whats best, and if anyone has had a similar problem of not being able to find a trigger. I'm basically looking for anything right now. Oh, and last summer when they were really bad I was seeing a chiropractor, so I've kind of ruled that option out. Thanks!!! Thanks, Kathy for the advice. I have had and MRI and talked with a neurologist so no worries there, just no help sadly
Really bad migraine aura plz help!? I have the common arc like flashing lights BUT I also had it so bad last time with dark spots too, I've had MRIs but I want to know how bad everyone elses aura is! Mine came with such bad panic I started crying and lasted 40 mins!
Has anyone ever had more than one aura with a migraine? I have been a migraine with aura sufferer for many years. I usually have an aura for about 1/2 hour before headache. Once in a while I have 2 auras (lasts about an hour). Tonight it seemed as though I had three. Each additional one was less severe than the next but I was so frightened because I did not know when it was going to go away completely. Has this happened with anyone else and does this mean that my future migraines will now be the same. I have a friend who says that sometimes her aura comes on and off over a period of hours.
How do I know it's a migraine and not a stroke? My grandmother had transient ischemic attacks (TIA), which are called mini-strokes. I was recently diagnosed with classic aura migraines after I had suffered tunnel vision, blind spots, numbness on one side of my face and hand and an intense two day long headache. How can I be sure that it was a migraine and not a stroke? Many of the symptoms are the same.
Aura migraine.. stroke like symptoms..pregnancy? did anyone else begin to have migraines with auras... symptoms very similar to a mini stoke or TIA when they got pregnant because of the change in hormones?? if so, what did you take to relieve the pain??? very scary situation, numbness in one arm... cant talk straight... seeing lights and things move in the corner of your eye..dizziness.. thank god it's just a migraine though. but yeah back to the question, what'd you do for pain? and how often did it happen to you?
How to control Aura migraine? I have recently started having Aura migraines. I ended up going to the ER because I could not see, my vision completely diminished with lines across my field of vision. They said it was most likely an Aura. I had an MRI etc, came out normal. I will be seeing a Dr. regarding this soon, but for now, I would like to know if there is anything I can do to prevent/ control these migraines. They usually happen when I am at school and under a lot of stress as I am in a difficult program, I am under more stress than usual. So when they come on, I am not in a position to leave or go lay down etc. Today for example, I got stressed out when I was taking a test, and I ended up not even being able to complete the test effectively. Its really getting to become an annoyance. I am working out.. trying to reduce my stress...etc. I would like to stay away from a prescription as much as possible. Any suggestions! PLEASE!
Beta Blockers for migraine with aura?? How do daily beta blockers work for frequent migraines with aura?? All the info I found only indicates how they work for angina or hypertension. I don't understand how the mechanism of action would help migraines that are (from what I understand) both vascular AND neurological. N.B: Kind of a hindsight question after seeing my neurologist...=) I can kind of sort of see what the drug could do for the migraine, but how would it specifically help with the aura?? Thanx MdGreg C!! I have been given Nalodol. Suppose to take it daily for 6 months (small dose 'cuz I'm skinny...apparently), then will assess to see if there is remission...which I don't really understand. I would assume since there is no cure for migraines, they WILL come back and since beta blockers can take up to 2 months to work (so I am only told), life gets interrupted unnecessarily for another 2 months.... May I ask what problems you refer to?? Thank-you very much MdGreg C =). I am really, really hoping there won't be any side effects. Too optimistic maybe..Anyway, I tried Relpax for a month with no success. Awaiting an MRI that has only been ordered because, well, I'm pushy =) and haven't completely bought into the migraine diagnosis. I get what has been deemed migraine associated symptoms at least twice a week. At least. Much more often around that time of the month. Oppps, may be too much info here =)... I have been diagnosed by a neurologist, but I have a problem with the fact that it apparently isn't demonstrable. Questions are asked and conclusions are drawn based on them. Basically, I get "attacks" where I can pass out, throw up, the room looks hazy, my legs and hands are numb, but also daily tingling. I am KO-ed afterwards. Sometimes within 24 hours there is headache. When there isn't one, supposedly, it's aura without migraine.... Thanx for the inquiry... Will add "caring" to my list of "MdGreg Niceties" =). X-man: Thanx for the info! Justwondering: Wow!! It sounds like you have been through the ringer!! Four neurologists?? DAILY migraines?? *Whew*. Nothing like a crappy experience with a doc when you're already feeling crappy huh?? I have been misdiagnosed a million times with these symptoms, so have had my own battles. But, I do not get migraines every single day and the neurologist I have is ok...so far. I hope you have found something that works for you now though?? Thanx for the personal though. I will watch out for the shortness of breath. I am somewhat of a "queen of side effects"... Neuromansuperhero: Thanx for the info. It helped. Cute nickname, btw. Justwondering: thanx for the link. I like the mayo clinic. I've read other stuff from that site and it's all refereed, so pretty reliable =).
Is there anyone with migraines with aura who are on birth control pills? I get migraines with aura once every couple of months and i want to go on the birth control pill so i was just wondering if anyones doctor told them it was safe to be on it i read on the internet that if you have migraines WITHOUT aura you can safely go on the pill but if you have them with aura it can be dangerous so has anyone with aura been told its safe
Surgery to fix migraine aura or scintillating scotoma? Long....? They look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV_37cao38U&feature=related I have been curious about permanently fixing my migraine auras for years. I've had them since I was 4 years old, I'm now 22. Normally I get about 2 a week. 1 aura and 1 migraine, 2 times a week. But yesterday I got five auras in a row, then when the migraine hit, my vision started to 'tilt' you could say. Things seemed to spin, I couldn't stand up without falling down so I was crawling to get around the house, I was dry heaving in the toilet for hours, and I couldn't see straight. It was ridiculous. I looked pathetic. I've been to darn near every neurologist there is in my home state. Even seen the docs up at the Mayo clinic, and they've all tested, tested, tested, and retested me in every way, shape, and form. And they all can't find anything physically wrong with me. So, now I'm wondering, has anyone ever heard of a surgery to permanently remove the auras associated with migraines? I can handle the migraines. I can handle the pain and all the screwed up things that come with it. BUT I CAN'T TAKE LIVING MY LIFE HALF BLINDED BY AURAS!!! I am so fed up with wasting 5 hours of my day to these things!!! It's so frustrating when you have to leave your child in her room because you physically can not see her to watch her. I hate leaving her alone in her crib, but there is nothing else I can do!! I'm so sick of it!! Is there a way to fix them, or get rid of them? Brain surgery, medication, would blindness even get rid of them? I'm just about ready to tear my eyeballs out so I don't have to see these stupid things anymore!!
Is having an aura before a migraine common? I'm 14, and I recently started having severe migraines and this past episode was my third one so far, and my doctor said i have an "aura" that warns me before the migraine? My aura consist of numbness, dizziness, and lost of vision.
What causes permanent visual snow / persistent migraine aura? Hi - does anyone know what causes permanent visual snow? I've had it for 2 years and no-one in the medical profession knows what to do with me! It affects all areas of my life.....is there a cure / treatment that is working for anyone? Thanks
Migraine with Aura question? Hi, I get migraines regularly. I get auras (visual disturbances) with them. Until now they have always just been a C-shaped sparkly thing on one side of my vision. This morning I got one, only the aura was on both sides of my vision, 2 C-shaped sparkly things mirroring each other. Has anyone else had this? Has anyone else had their migraine auras change after years of being pretty much the same? Thanks!
migraine aura during school *REPOSTED*? Hi there. i've been getting migraine with aura since i was in grade 6. Usually its only an aura and i dont even get a migraine headache. Advil doesn't really help. The most annoying thing is getting them during school becuase I cant concentrate since I can't even see properly. So I would just go to the office and call home. It usually went away after a couple of hours. I was wondering... since im going into high school this year and I cant just leave school everytime I get one, so what should I do? I recently found out that Rooibos tea(or 'Red tea') helps get rid of the aura. So I tried it and it kind of worked. it helped git rid of it much faster. So i was talking with my mom and she said I should bring a tea thermos everyday to school and put a Rooibos tea bag in it. Then, If I ever got a migraine I should go get some hot water and drink. But i dunno.... I'm still a bit worried... Does anyone else here suffer from migraine with aura and knows some better ideas?? And please dont tell me "go to the doctor" because I'm sorry but they didnt help me :( Migraine aura can vary from an arc of sparkling/flahsing zig-zag lines or a blotting out of vision or even both. It sucks :( Migraine aura can vary from an arc of sparkling/flahsing zig-zag lines or a blotting out of vision or even both. It sucks :(
migraine aura sufferer? does anyone suffer from the Aura (visual disturbances) of migraines and if so have they found a solution to stopping it.I get Aura that can last 45 mins.it can be very alarming at times suddenly coming on and not being able to see.
Is a migraine aura in one eye normal? I recently realized that i was experiencing a migraine aura just before a migraine ( a concentrated spot in my eye that seems to be sparkling, and reminds me of the visual spots that happen just before fainting). anyways, i was just wondering if its normal to have the aura just in one eye(right), or concentrated in one eye. I experienced this today with pain on my left side of my head quickly after, but this time it went away and didn't turn into a full migraine, so i also thought that was a bit odd and wondered if anyone had any thoughts about that too. These migraines are new to me and seem to be coming one after the other for weeks. I'm also on naproxen but it never seems to work
How do I treat migraine aura? For me, the migraine "headache" isn't my worst problem. What gets me is the horrible mood swings and phono-phobia, but also the photo-phobia, brown spots, blue flashes and lightning strike images. Usually, my migraine "headache" is located in my upper traps and only rarely comes up over the top of my head to my forehead. By the time the "headache" hits, I've had hours and hours of horrible depression, anger and stabbing pains from every noise or bright light. So, how can I treat the aura and make the mood swings and painful sounds S-T-O-P? I am not anti-medication. I take Imitrex with naproxen sodium but it just doesn't work that well at stopping these horrible pre-headache symptoms.
what does a migraine with aura mean? a migraine with aura with ntrc mgrn

Migraine Aura or stroke? I went to the hospital awhile ago and was diagnosed with migraine aura's. Now, I have been diagnosed with migraines since I was 16. But this time before I went to the hospital was weird. They thought I was having a stroke and so did I. These were my symptoms: Altered vision; I put my arm up to look at a shirt (I was at the mall) and I couldn't see my arm. Walking through Safeway and saw an employee and only saw part of his arm.... Dizziness Occward feeling; I felt very weird and not myself Impaired speech; I couldn't talk very well. Apparently according to my mum I tried to say part and it came out fart. Numbness; I couldn't feel the left side of my face, arm or leg. Mostly the left half of my body Now that all sounds like a stroke to me. But apparently according to the doctor it was a Migraine Aura. They did a MRI and they said they did see something but it wasn't alarming. So because of that and my migraines I was refered to a neurologist. But he wouldn't do anything because I was pregnant, so I am still waiting to see him. Sorry, I just realized this is my husband's account. So I am asking this question not my husband....
I have had Migraine Aura in my eyes and it won't go away? 3 years ago, I woke up with Migraine Aura so I thought it would be a migraine. But since then it has not gone away. I also have the black curtain thing where if I close one eye most of my vision goes fuzzy and black. Also staring at myself in the mirror my face disappears, depending on if the room is lighted up, then my face will disappear in white otherwise if it is dark then my face will all go black (Well I mean what ever I am staring at will go black or white so technically disappearing). I have had MRI scans and any other scan by medical doctors and all. They all say that my eyes are fine but how can they be fine when half of my vision keeps disappearing in this black curtain? Is there any advice anyone can give me please. I just hope that it won't get worse. It's like it's invisible to medical doctor's when they view my eyes?
birth control and migraine w/aura? My doctor just put me on birth control (Loestrin24Fe). A year ago I had two episodes of migraine's with an aura. I have read reports that I shouldn't take birth control due to increase in stroke ( I think that was the risk it mentioned). My doctor said it was a very small risk and the study was based on long term use. I was wondering what y'all think about that? Is it pretty safe to keep taking it?
Im having migraine auras all day everyday. Any OTC medications that are good for this? I rarely get the headache . i just have the aura almost everyday ! its really unconfortable. PLEASE HELP hey alex are you trying to kill me !
Migraine sufferers, what is the aura like? I had to go home early today and I think I had a migraine with the aura. I couldn't read or write properly - it was like parts of the page were missing and when I looked over my notes from lectures this evening, none of what I'd written made any sense. My best friend says it looks like everything is covered in red smoke when she gets them. If you suffer from migraine, do you get symptoms like this?
How can I stop Migraine Aura? I don't have a severe Migrane but I tend to have aura.. I am sensitive to lights and have light aura.... How can I stop that?? What are OTC drugs or Vitamins that I can take?? Any experience??
Migraine with ‘Aura’ What can this be? Migraine with ‘Aura’ what can this be?
Question on Cortical Spreading Depression and Visual Migraine aura, any pathologists, neurologists? I am trying to understand the process of migraine aura which includes the blind-spots and visual distortion. I know that certain substances such as tyrammine cause vaso-constriction but how does Cortical Spreading Depression (CSD) occur? Is vaso-constriction a trigger of CSD or is their a chemical trigger? Secondly can bright light or certain patterns increase Serotonin (5HT) resulting in CSD from certain groups of neurons when there is increased sensitivity in the cortex. Thirdly in some people can chemicals like tyrammine, ceasin etc become stuck to a receptor due to gene mutation coding for that receptor making such individuals susceptible to migraine? Thanks for any information.
I normally have a migraine with the aura, is it possible to have one without seeing as i usually have one? Is it possible for me to have a migraine.. but without the aura if i've always experienced the aura in the past? about a year - 2 years ago i had terrible migraines and suffered from them greatly and had about 3-7 a week, but i stopped having them for about a year, and now i have this horrible pain on my temple as if it is a migraine, but i didnt get the aura before it? can i get that?
Few months ago, I had a migraine with aura.? It's been about 3 to 4 months since I last had it but that was the only time and I never had it again. Does that mean I don't have migraine? because I researched and found out that I can only be diagnosed with migraines if I have at least 2 migraine attacks with aura. I only had one.
Are people who suffer visual migraine aura, forbidden from having a driving license? Visual migraine aura creates blind spots, flashes and visual distortion which makes driving dangerous. It is also a brain dis-function. Is it against the law for a sufferer of visual migraine to have a driving license or to drive a car, or do a job involving driving such as bus driving?
Can migraine aura cause weird sensations in head? I only had one migraine since I start having them in December. Most of the time I get this weird senstation that lasts a couple of days and then goes away. What could this be? I do not experience any headaches.
Is migraine aura the same as a mini stroke? In migraine aura spasm of blood vessels in brain causes visual disturbances, such as blind spots double vision, visual distortion or loss of peripheral vision. This lasts around 25 to 30 minutes in the majority of cases. This neurological problem is caused by lack of blood reaching brain cells of the visual cortex. So in that case is this condition identical to stroke and is their damage to brain tissue or loss of cells?
Why would getting very angry make you have an aura like you do when you get a migraine? By "aura" I mean losing the vision in one eye and most of the vision in the other eye, seeing flashing sparkly lights and zig zag patterns in your vision and your vision going black behind the weird lights and patterns. The whole thing lasted for about 20 minutes.
I have a migraine with aura every couple of months, do I have an increased probablity of having a stroke? And I have another question, not migraine related, I always feel this pain above and in my eyes, what could this be? Sometimes at night while I am at bed, my left eye hurts every 20-60 seconds. I spend about 3-4 hours on the computer everyday. Could this be related? I would reallly appreciate any help!
possible migraine aura? Hi, I haven't been diagnosed with migraine, will be going to the doctors about it but I wanted to make some sense of what I've been getting first. I have been having one sided headaches for about 2 years (im 24). I have a family history of migraine with aura but my symptoms are not classic of aura. I'll explain a little... I dont get the fortification spectra (where it is supposed to look like a castle) but I get sort of shimmery vision - it looks very bright and kind of moves, like heat rising, difficult to describe. I also get a very drowsy feeling, cant think straight or concentrate, and sometimes struggle to form sentences (but not every time), i can also become quite dizzy. Have noticed mood changes and cravings for sweet foods in the hours before this all starts, and get de ja vu quite regularly. After all this I very often end up with a headache, but not every time, on the other hand I sometimes get the headache without the other things. Has anyone had similar experiences? I know it isn't a replacement for a proper medical diagnosis, but like I say, just trying to make some sense before I go. Thanks in advance.
How To Treat Migraine With Aura, Help Please!? I'm convinced that my friend has migraine with aura and I was just wondering if anybody knows what to take to get rid of these visual disturbances that come with this diagnosis and any treatments available, thanks.
Differance between migraine with/without aura? How do I tell if I have migraine with aura? I don't know what aura means and how does it feel like. Can someone explain? Thnx

Stiff painful neck AFTER a migraine with Aura? Any ideas how to get rid of it, been going on for two days now after the migraine had gone, painkillers, massage & hot baths won't shift it. Not been able to sleep & whatever way i sit/lay is excruciating?
Migraine aura then what? I had my first experience with a migraine aura an hour before a migraine. I never get migraines and this is a first in about 5 years. Anyways, the aura thing was new to me didnt know what it was. If I see an aura should I expect a migraine soon? If that is the case what can I do to prevent the migraine from coming before it hits? In other words, should I take painkillers or have some caffeine as a precaution?

Migraine aura for 3 years? About 3 years ago, after having about 7 migraine attacks in that year I woke up one morning with the migraine aura vision symptoms which included a bit fuzziness and particles flying around. Also blacked-out vision which happens when I shut one eye and with the eye that is open most of the vision I mean disappears in darkness like being blocked by a dark curtain. I developed too a lot of floaters. It is strange as it has been 3 years and all this has never gone, I have got used to living with it but hope that one day my vision will not all disappear and I will be completely blind which is one of my most fears. I HAVE GONE TO ophthalmologists and they have said that my vision is fine after they looked deep in my eyes (I remember they put these drops in my eyes which helped my pupils go larger so they could look behind) Please if anyone can please reassure me that my vision is okay and that I will not go completely blind since the ophthalmologists have said my vision is good as what they can see. thank you very much :)
Migraine aura without headache..the return? I'm looking for some opinions here. I'm not sure if any of these things are related or not, but I was hoping that if there is a correlation, someone here might recognize it. Last night I had a terrible migraine aura without headache. I went into complete tunnel vision. It's happened to me before, but it's probably been 5 years since the last one. In that 5 years, some things have happened. I got LASIK eye surgery about 3 years ago. I also found out I was gluten intolerant about 4 years ago. I figure those two changes had stopped my migraines. I'm not sure if it's related, but about 6 months after I stopped eating gluten I had a couple of seizures. They both took place in one night, and I haven't had any since. Doctor's weren't able to find any reasons for the seizures, and all tests, including catscans and EEG's came back normal. Lately I've been having a little trouble sleeping due to painful joints (also new, and primarily in my hips). I've also had a few bloody noses in the last week, which I don't get often. That all led up to my migraine aura last night. And today I'm feeling about 50%. The aura has mostly dissipated, but I feel a lot of pressure in my head with a slight headache. Is this just a normal migraine aura with some other, coincidental symptoms? Or is there something else going on? If your answer is going to be "go see a doctor," don't bother. I've seen doctors, and I'm capable of as much research as they are. Should this turn into something more serious, I will seek out a new specialist. Thanks for you help. I should probably mention that I've also had odd tingling sensations in my ears and temples randomly for the last couple of months. And the migraines I had in the past were accompanied by tingling and loss of feeling in parts of my hands and face.
Seeing shadows in vision with migraine aura? i have been seeing visual snow, afterimages, zig zag floaters, and circles, the recent thing i have is shadows in vision like in squares and stuff, that will go away when i blink, i also see them in blue and pink. and i wanna know if it has to do with migraine aura because i saw the eye doctor when i first saw snowy vision and he didnt see anything and i have a weird sensation in my head and ive also had an mri please help
What types of things do you see with migraine aura? i see static vision, wave like things, floaters, shadows, afterimages. i have had an mri, seen an eye doctor, and neurologist. they said it might be migraine aura without a migraine. what do you usually see?
My L&D instructions say to go directly to triage if I have any visual disturbances, migraine with aura? I got a brochure from my L&D tour that says when to go to the hospital (contractions 5 minutes apart, etc.). Visual disturbance are listed as a time to go to labor and delivery if they occur. I just had a migraine like visual disturbances but I used to get them frequently and am pretty sure it is just a migraine. Should I have went into or should I still go in to have a check up done? What do you pregnant ladies do if this happens?
Can new contact solution cause aura migraine? I've been getting aura migraines every few months for the past 3 or 4 years. I also wear contacts. I started getting them after starting to wear contacts (age 12) and it seems like everytime I change solution to a different brand I get a migraine that day or the day after? is this possible? what else causes aura migraines?
Contraception for migraine with aura? I've been advised that i may not be able to go on the combined pill (due to the oestrogen) because i suffer from migraine with aura. Does anybody know what else i could try? I don't want anything that involves needles and i was hoping not to get an IUD, does that just leave the mini pill? I've not heard very good things about the mini pill, does anyone have any good experiances? I was told the combined pill wasn't an option due to increased risk of stroke.

Migraine aura, or seizure? This morning in class, I had what I thought was a "Migraine Aura", where my vision begins to blur in the shape of a circle, shimmering visual patches, etc, followed closely by a migraine. I have had a migraine aura once before in my life, and it was followed by an absolutely killer headache. Only this one felt a bit different. I felt really distanced from my own body, weak, anxious, a little scared even. I was still able to control my actions, but everything was a confusing blur, and I was unable to focus, and understood very little of what people were saying to me. I had to excuse myself from class of course, and while walking back to my dorm so that I could lie down and let the migraine run its course, all of my limbs began to tingle, then they started to shake uncontrollably (arms and legs). It felt like a dream, but it was absolutely terrifying. I grabbed onto the handrail on the stairs while my limbs shook.... I would say it lasted about 30 seconds to one minute, but i'm not entirely sure... my recollection of it is a bit fuzzed. Somehow I managed to not fall down, my limbs stopped shaking, stopped tingling as well, and within about 5 minutes my vision "aura" was gone as well. The migraine never came. So my question is, was I just lucky and missed the migraine, or is it possible that I had some sort of a seizure? I have read that auras are often experienced with seizures as well. Also, does this seem severe enough to warrant a hospital visit? I feel (mostly) fine now, just a little cloudy-headed and shaken up... figured i should let myself rest. Thanks for any input/advice...
Migraine Aura Please answer if you have had this? I had a migraine aura that lasted 4 hours with extreme numbness in arms and complete vision loss blindness with a bright light about 2 months ago. Since then I have had weird aura symptoms ever since. The first sign of my 4 hour episode the first thing I noticed was my arm looked as if it wasn't mine like it was just sitting there(weird i know) and then it progressed into full blown episode. Ever since off and on I still have visual lines and waves and that weird arm thing that last hours. Please help me if you have had the aura, I have asked before and people have had migraine but I need aura advice Thanks

Are migraine auras like smelling things that aren't there and flashing lights normal/bad? I get a lot of symptoms with my migraines including an aura. I've read that smelling things that aren't there are signs of epilepsy and other conditions, but is it normal to get that with migraines? I also experience flashing lights in my peripheral vision so much that I can't see there, is that some what normal? Thanks!
what causes migraine aura? This is the second time I've gotten a migraine aura and I would take excedrin but the first time I did that, the little zigzag flashing goes away but I got this really really bad headache that I just couldn't sleep at all. I took excedrin again because I have to go to work but I'm getting a bad headache again and should I be worried? like I know you're supposed to get a headache with the migraine aura but should it be this bad? is that normal?
Anybody taken a migraine aura preventative drug called Tonabersat? I recently heard about it and wondering if it worked for your migraine w aura? I have daily aura symptoms sometimes severe,.Please give me your experience with it..Thanks!!!
