What could the cause of knee pain which is under the knee cap? I have pain under my kneecap when I walk down hills or run. Also if i squat which causes the muscles around my knee to flex?
I've had pain in my knee cap for years, and it's getting worse. What should I do? My left knee cap has always had a little pain in recent years but lately the pain has worsened a bit. The pain is exclusively in the knee cap. There's no pain around it, just right at the top of the knee cap. Is there anything I can do to stop it? Is it tendontis in the knee? What could this be?
Wife woke up with excruciating knee cap pain and swelling around cap, wont bend.? My wife woke up with knee pain especially around the knee cap, with nearly immediate swelling, with no previous injury. It will not bend. She says even touching the skin makes it hurt. She was taken to the local hospitol and they could not find out what is wrong with it (the docs here suck) She has an appointment on monday with our regular doctor, but we are curious what it could be. What can i do about my sharp knee pain? It hurts like right on top of my knee cap when i jump and land...? Both knees hurt. I am 16. Are there any braces or sleeves that will help this? Also what about pain reliever pills or some sort of bengay. Any information would help. ONce again it hurts when i jump and when i land on impact its a sharp pain right on top of both knee caps. It prevents me from jumping as high and it kills to jump if i dont warm up.
I am having sharp knee pain around my Knee cap. I hear a slight pop or crack when i move it up or down I was running up a hill pretty intensely a few days ago and i noticed slight knee pain. Its gotten alot worse and i am uncomfortable walking because i want to avoid the pain as much as possible. The pain is around the knee caps and its sharp and painful. Pain just below knee cap on right leg. The pain is on the inner side. What could be the problem? Yesterday I had to get on my knees to retrieve something from under the bed. When I tried to get up I couldn't it hurt to put the least bit of pressure on my right knee. I had to use my wife's walker to finally get up off floor. Since then I have had severe pain to the inner side of my knee just below knee cap. I don't currently have health insurance and I'm looking for a job. What could be the problem?
Knee cap pain and osteoporosis.? I got the knee cap pain problem, they said i need to lower the weight. But i also got osteoporisis with BMI = 18.9, and now they said the weight is too low. My problem is, should i keep the low body weight to keep osteoporisis or increase the weight to worsen the knee cap pain problem ?

left knee cap pain...only 20 yrs old? i have had pain in my left knee cap before...its like a sharp pain at the top and the right side when i go up stairs or use my left leg to stand up. and if i sit down too long and my knee is bent it starts to hurt without me even moving it...it starts to ache really badly. i went to physical therapy about 2 years ago and it stopped it. now the pain is back. has anybody had this before? what was it? thanks so much.

Searing nerve pain in knee cap and at joint of foot and leg from groin strain? I foolishly tried to run off a groin strain , which only made things worse . I now have sporadic nerve pain at foot and leg joint , kneecap and groin . The constant rotation of sharp pain is getting me down .Can anyone help?
Knee Cap Pain? Help please. Having pain on my knee cap, sort of like a nerve?, but really only if I put pressure on it, otherwise OK. Don't know what I did to it, may have been bruised a little.... had been kneeling alot in painting in my house. Also, thinking back (about 2 weeks now) it popped and since pops on occasion which it never has in my life really. I have tried wrapping it in ace bandage to limit movement but doesn't seem to be helping. If I run my fingernail over my knee cap it hits the spot which radiates pain out to both sides. The pain is like a tingling sensation. When I let up it subsides. If I accidently kneel on it it really hurts, but subsides fairly quick. Any ideas what it might be.
I get a pain in the inside of my left knee just below the knee cap when I start to run. When I start to run I get a pain just below the knee cap on the inside of my left leg. I don't get the same pain in my right knee. It goes after running for a couple of minutes or so but the spot is quite tender for a while after I've finished. I had been running for about two weeks (not constantly!) with no problems before this started. Does anybody know what this could be and if there is anything I can do to treat it? Thanks.
I have a pain in the back of my knee and it wraps around to just under my knee cap any idea what it could be? I havn't been doing anything that should cause this pain, when i went to sleep i woke up about 6 hours later, i woke up with this unbearable pain in my knees, it wraps around just around my knee cap. But doesn't occur on my knee cap. I cant get to the doctor any idea wat it could be?
Knee pain, inside of knee cap, from biking? I cycle 3 - 4 times per week and this week I was in a 129 mile ride. Half way through the ride my right knee starting really hurting, every downward push through the pedal hurt. The pain, 2 - days later, is still slightly sensitive to touch. Looking down at my right knee the pain is coming from just left of the top corner my knee cap (hope that makes sense). Is this a stress realted injury, is there anything I can do to prevent this, could my seat or pedals be positions wrong, could my seat possibly be positioned too far forward (my seat is pushed forward quite a bit because I frequently compete in triathlons) any ideas on what should I do? Im 21 years old and having knee pain. It feels like its inside behind the knee cap. Its not really painful but annoying. It feels weak, it usually starts when i bowl and comes and goes. What could it be i never had any injuries prior to this.
Pain on left side of right knee cap when working out...? I've been using the stationary bike at the gym. I've always had some sort of knee pain, but when I start working out on the bike, I can feel this awful pain in my knee. It's only in my right knee, and it's under my knee cap on the left side. whats causing the pain on my knee cap area? I blew my knee out 9 years ago and Im really active and keep my knee strong. I need to get it scoped again because of some foreign objects floating around in it. For the past year I have a sharp pain in the patella tendon area only when I try to jump off that leg. This is the only time it hurts, I can run, walk up stairs, kneel on it without pain. There is no swelling. What would be causing this and how would I treat it?
Knee cap surgery pain killers? i recently had fracured knee cap surgery. the doctor gave me lortab for pain. It did not help. A friend told me about taking ibuprofen with the lortab. That seems to have done the trick. very little to no pain at all. i told my doctor about it and he said taking the ibuprofin with lortab is not recommened. Why is this?
17yr old male, pain in left knee (cap) area during the cold season? im a 17 year old male with severe pain in my left knee(inside the knee cap) when bending it out and in i can feel something pop or click inside my knee (the cause of the pain) and if i keep it bent in the same position like 15min or more i start to feel it and i have to bend it straight out to relieve the pain wich hurts very bad, also this pain only comes during the cold seasons i dont notice it during any other time of the year
moving knee cap, knee pain? i've been having lots of problems with my knee recently, specifically when i exercise.. i started out running at the gym and after 5 or so minutes my knee felt really weak and really achey. now i cant run at all, and when i row it feels like somethings catching or popping in my knee, cycling is also becoming quite hard. i like to keep fit and i am now struggling to do my favourite activities the most pain free is cross training. i was born with extra bone in my knee and my mum decided to not have surgery on it as she thought it would be too much for me at such a young age.. the most recent trauma to my knee was when i went skiing in april. but that recovered quickly it feels as if my kneecap is moving up and down or there is a lot ofpressure around it even when i walk now. i went to the doctors a week ago and she said that its just taking time to adapt to training its the bottom left of my right knee thats the problem, what could be wrong?
Pain under the knee cap? I have been having pain under my knee cap for three days now. As wierd as it sounds the only way that I can describe it is that it feels like I have gas bubbles trapped underneath my knee cap. the pain hasn't gotten worse over the past couple of days but it is still there. It is not really a constant pain mainly when I'm laying down or when I first get up to walk. I don't recall falling down on my knee recently or hitting it on anything, but I suppose it could be possible because I am a clutz. I had a friend tell me to stand on one leg and stretch out the one that is hurting behind my back it doesn't seem to help much. Does this sound familar to anybody? Anybody have any ideas on what it might be. Any feedback would be appreciated.
knee cap pain, has been bugging me for years. help? ok so my left knee cap got hurt almost 5 years ago, when i fell off my bike and hit my knee pretty hard on the pavement. since then, it hurts if it gets bumped, and now just the joint in general hurts. i banged it up a few weeks ago, when i fell while hiking and banged it on a boulder. it also isnt like just hard, its as if i can feel the muscle or whatever. what could it be? could i have injured my knee and not known it? its been untreated this whole time, will that affect it? thanks for anyone who can help :]
I have this pain around my knee cap? It has been bothering me ever since last Monday night until now. I have tried comforting my knee by pillows, stuffed animals, blankets, old clothings, and anything that is soft. I tried pain relievers/killers not working. Im too busy to go to the doctor because every week I have a quiz or an exam or practice tests and etc. Any remedies or advice?
Should I worry about minor knee pain from squats? I get knee pain routinely after squat workouts. Usually after pushing myself. Pretty minor as it doesnt cause me to miss workouts often (no more than one). Sometimes I get bruises, swelling, and tenderness above my knee caps. Sometimes pain behind and under knee caps. Made worse by running at times. I belive my form to be decent. Should I be worried about the minor aches and pains in my knees. Never had anything serious. Im 19 btw and been squatting for about six months No pain when I started...Swelling and tenderness subsides after a few days...even after a lax workout...my heals never come offf the ground...Im almost positive my knees dont pass toes...i use a relatively wide stance...and go a little past ninety degrees...i kno i could be gettin some minor chondromalcia...maybe an IT band strain above knee cap?
What would cause the muscle above my knee cap to swell?No pain when leg is straight,just while bending.? I recently had my doctor look at it,the first time he prescribed steroids and that took most of the swelling away until I finished taking them,so I went back they took x-rays,and could not see anything,so they recommended orthopedic doc. Ive already spent approximately. 500.00 dollars and or thoo wants 300 without insurance,and from what I have researched I will probably need mri,which is another 1500.00 or so..
What causes knee pain below the knee cap? Yesturday i was walking down a set of bleachers which was 4 steps and then turned left to go somewhere else, but after i turned and started walking i was like "ouch" my left knee really hurts. I just blew it off though because 2 years ago i had knee surgery and the surgeon placed an "eight Plate" in on the left side of my left knee and a "eight plate" on the right side of my right knee to close my growth plates. My left knee has always hurt from time to time because of that but my right has been fine. Over the left plate on the left leg is usually where i have constant pain because i have tendons abnormally rolling over the plate which is hurting them, and when you place your hand over the plate area and bend my knee you can feel them rolling and its pretty gross. But this is the first time i have had pain below my knee and i seem to have a slight decrease in motion in that knee now, and it dosent hurt to walk on nessecarily until i bend it back. Did i dislocate my knee? Or did i tear a tendon on the side of my knee which holds my knee cap in place? Any clue would help me greatly. When my knee bends and i place my hand right underneither my knee cap i can feel something move or like pop, what is that?
What to do for knee pain? I starting running and playing badminton 5-6 months. After a month of this physical activity it started paining in my knees. I have consulted doctors. They did X-Ray, gave some medicines (NSAID, pain killers) and suggested some physiotherapy exercises. But still pain is there. Most likely its chondromalcia of patella(Knee cap). The pain increases after I walk for some time or stand for some time. Any suggestions on what to do to get rid of pain.
I have a horrible knee pain under my knee cap? I fell at the skate park on saturday. I'm having knee pain on the inside of my left knee under the knee cap when I walk.? I was playing softball last weekend and ran into the fence going after a ball. My left knee hurt initially but I got up and jogged a little and the pain went away. I continued on and played 2 more games. The next evening, my knee swelled up and now it hurts with every step I take and it is still swollen. It is sharp pains right underneath the knee cap on the inside of my left knee. I'm guessing since I played 2 more games and it never gave out on me that it is just a sprain, but figured I'd see if anyone has any ideas?? Thanks in advance! I appreciate all the tips. Thank you! Knee pain above and below the knee cap.? A long time ago-3 years i would say, i hurt my knee. i was running in a field in the pitch black dark and stepped in a whole running as fast as i could, my knee/leg bent backwards and it was extremely painful-i guess what you would call it buckling? anyways i got up after a while and was able to walk without a lot of pain. i never went to the doctor and it hurt here and there occasionally. now just recently i was playing basketball and landed awkwardly on the same leg-it bent outward-causing a lot of pain which hurts on the ligament/tendon connecting above my knee cap and then on the ligament/tendon connecting below my knee cap-which if i'm not mistaken is my patella tendon and quadricep tendon......anyways i fell on it weird once more and since then it has been extremely painful...i don't know if i've torn something or not?? also other places i notice it hurts is actually up under my knee cap (which makes me feel uneasy for something to hurt under my knee cap) and then out to the side of my knee--this is all on my right knee.
I started having pain on the outside of both knees. now i have a small bump under my right knee cap.? I started feeling the pain on the outside of both knees a couple days ago while working. It got worse at night, and would be the worst in the morning. The pain has continued to worsen. This morning I woke up and my right knee was in more pain than my left. I noticed a pretty large bumb under my right knee cap. Now all my joints are bothering me. My ankles swell up. My knees are swollen. What could be the cause of this knee pain? My mom is 53 and has swelling on the medial side of her knee, right below the knee cap. It has caused her pain since October, sometimes so bad that she can't sleep at night. The doctor couldn't even tell her what's wrong. Any bright ideas? no she does not have vericose veins.
Unbearable knee pain under knee cap!? Sometimes when my knee stays bent for like say 20-30 minutes at a time while I'm laying down or sitting on a chair i'll get the worst pain ever in my knee. It feels like a cramping/burning sensation on the inside of my knee. I've had it when my leg was straight too.. just having it bent causes it to happen a little bit more often.

I have a soar pain under my knee cap close to the cartilage.? It hurts every time I apply pressure to it. Its the very top of my shin bone. It feels just a little swollen but its not. Knee Pain - What is it? It feels like my knee cap is scraping as it slides over if i lock my knee out.? My knee started to hurt one day when i was running to the point where i had to stop running. This was about 2 1/2 years ago. I dont run now as a result (which I hate) but I am reluctant to see a doctor because a bad knee diagnosis could hurt my career. I can do biking or an eliptical machine without pain however. I also feel pain if i try to lock out my knee hard. I also noticed that if I push my right kneecap out to the outside (right), it glides much smoother. I'm assuming I have some sort of tracking problem but I'm not sure. Does this sound like a tracking problem and if so, what are the best exercises to pull my kneecap glide to the outside?
I Have Knee Joint Pain On My Right Knee Cap. Help ? I have knee joint pain constantly everyday. Well 4 or 5 times a day. I've had this pain for about half a year now. sometimes It feels like there are needle stabbing into my knee cap and sometimes it only aches.. And I'm pretty positive it's not arthritis because i am only 14. And usually when i bend down to knee. my knee cap pops. so i dont know if that has anything to do with this weird pain. and no i haven't gone to the doctor yet because i want to try to self solve it myself before i go. so if anyone can give me their opinions or know what is causing this pain it'll be greatly appreciated. :) have a good day !
Pain in knee cap.........? So I am 13 1/2 and I had gym yesterday. In gym we had to walk than jogged for 2 minutes straight, than we stretched. After that we played soccer. So I might of had pain that was dull that I wasn't paying attention. So I got home and I had to run in the car so I can go to the gym in my church for an activity. So we played and beach volleyball but before we played, I was walking to someone and bam! I had a sharp pain in my left knees knee cap. I had to jump on my right leg to get to them and I limped for the rest of the night. My leg hurts still, and I soaked it in hot water last night and put it in a ace bandage. Than this morning and today it still hurts.... Its a little swollen! I have gym tomorrow should I participate tomorrow and I have been propping my leg on two pillows today. no...........................
I have knee pain slightly below the knee cap what is this? I run quite a bit and slightly below my knee i get this pain. Its not a real sharp pain though and it only happens when i start to use my knee more excessivily. Its only in my right leg too. Does anybody know what this is and what i could do to help it?

weird knee cap pain? twisted? I was sitting on the floor and when I stood up i got a sharp pain in my knee cap. When I move a certain way or when I've been walking the pain catches me and it makes me like limp a bit, it just happened today. The pain is like from the bottom of the knee cap where its spongy (where you hot for your reflexes) to the top. Is this just a twisted knee cap? Has anyone else had this? Thanks! No i can stand on it fine, its just a couple times i get that sharp pain and it kind of gives in a bit, it mostly hurts where that spongy part is underneath but has a light burning feeling on top of the cap.
What can cause pain behind your knee cap? About two weeks ago I started noticing that it hurt to use my left leg to walk up stairs. Ever since then it has been getting worse. Now when I get up from my chair at work I cant put any weight on it, I have to use my right leg, same with getting out of my car. Now as I sit here my knee is throbbing and the pain feels like its right behind my knee. What could this be? I have had issues with this knee in the past and it does crack often...any suggestions? Knee cap pain, should i get an X-Ray? I bashed my knee riding my bike perhaps a week ago and i was immense pain, my knee swelled up and was bruised fairly bad, i never got chance to go to the hospital because i couldnt miss work really. After like a week the swelling went and the bruise started to go, and i can now walk on it fine but whenever anything touches it, even as little as my trousers rubbing against it, it really hurts and yet i can walk on it fine without any pain. Should i go and get an X-R or not? Stevie Alright, i might go see the doctor when i have some spare time, but it is almost 2 weeks since i bashed my knee, surely a bruise would of gone by now? There is no bruising left on my knee cap except for a very light yellow which you get after all bruises, so would the bruising still be there internally? How can I get rid of my Knee cap pain? I'm 21 years old now, and for years I've had an awful habit of popping my kneecap. I just bend my legs hard and they pop. I got to the point where i can do it over and over again without stopping. Months ago when I'd be on my hands and knee's my knee's would just pop and it would kinda hurt, but starting two days ago I can hardly bend my right leg. Major pain and hurts very badly. I know its from the popping but what can i do now? Is it too late to fix? These days I can just walk and they pop by themselves, or sometimes when i walk I get a stiff leg and have to pop it to walk easier. The pain is awful and I don't know what to do. Today is day 3 and its only getting worse :(
Knee pain/popping just below knee cap? I am having pains just below my knee cap. When it started, it was a rare occurrence, now it doesn't go away. It even hurts when I walk, but not always. If I sit down for more then 5 minutes with my leg bent, once I stretch my leg out into a straight position, the kneecap pops. Any help with what this may be, or what I should do would be appreciated. Knee Pain below knee cap? My knee has tightness/pain just below the kneecap. I have self diagnosed myself with patellar tendinitis. I have pretty strong legs, I hiked 3 days in pretty extreme altitude changes constantly and after about an hour my knee never felt better. The problem seems to just come and go at random. Granted I do currently work at a grocery store where kneeling is involved all the time but it started happening before then.

I started getting pain directly under my knee cap about three months ago? I started getting pain directly under my knee cap about three months ago. The pain shoots down the front of my shin if i am doing anything other than walking ( running, jumping, going up or down stairs). At first I believed that it was shin splints but the symptoms don't match. The pain shoots down my leg unlike shin splints that shoot up your leg, and when you press on the top of my shin it hurts but shin splints are not supposed to hurt when you press on them. Constant Knee Pain, Knee Cap Doesn't Stay In Place? A little background info. I was in weights and i went down during my max on squat which was around 170. Ever since then i have had on and off pain in my right knee but recently the pain is always constant. Every time i go to the doctor they always say nothing is wrong but my knee cap doesn't even stay in place anymore. My right knee cap can move to the right, left, up, and down and each way it goes to where half of it isn't even on my knee anymore. I have trouble walk, jogging, and running. I am in P.E. this semester and i am a sophomore in high school and without a doctors note i have to do everything which hurts me beyond belief which leads back to the doctor who won't write it because he doesn't see anything wrong. Along with the pain there is also agonizing sharp pain to the left of my right knee (the same knee as the knee cap problem). Any ideas or help would be appreciated on how to calm the pain or any idea what may be wrong with it.
