Knee pain relief???? My mother is 65 and weighs about 170 lbs. She suffers from knee pain on her right knee. She has seen arthritis doctors, and, so far, they have not been able to help her. I don't think that she actually has arthritis. I understand that if she looses some weight then maybe she'd get some relief but she can't really do any exercise because of the pain. Its a vicious cycle. Does anyone know of any OTC pain relief that works on this kind of pain? Or even a supplement that could help her?
Suggestions for knee pain relief? About 8 years ago I injured my right knee in an accident. It took so long to heal, that I think I damaged my left knee from having it carry my weight. For the last 3 or 4 months, my knee was pain free. I injured my left knee about a month ago, and the pain is getting worse, to where it's starting to affect mobility. There's no visible bruising and it's not swollen. Does anyone have any suggestions as to pain relief? It would really be appreciated. I have tried pain relievers such as Tylenol, Motrin, and Naproxin and they have not helped. I have also tried sitting in a hot tub and muscle relaxers with no relief.
Best way to relief knee pain? I have never had any knee problems before in my life. But last week my knee was a lil sore during my run but I just shrugged it off and finished. Afterwards my knee was really stiff and sore for about a day. It only hurts when I run but I can bike just fine. knee pain causes/relief? im 28 female sedentary lifestyle. had grinding/crunching in both knees since 18. occasional sharp pain in left knee when climbing stairs, putting weight forward when playing tennis etc. used to do tennis and gym light user but would be in a lot of pain afterwards when putting weight on left knee. Couple of months ago was climbing step ladder and felt painful tearing sensation in front inner side of left knee. hot and swollen that evening. now keep getting very sharp pain when climbing up/down stairs then knee is painful ache the whole day regardless of position and swelling comes up on inner front side. im seeing doctor tomorrow but does anyone have advice on pain relief or possible cause? thanks

Knee pain relief for runners? I run about 3 days a week. My knee hurts most days but worse the day after a run day. On a scale of 1-10, its about a 6. It hurts underneath the knuckle part of the knee. About 4 or 5 years ago, the Army said the cartlidge was just wearing down and to deal with it. I can't take anti-inflamatory drugs. Does anybody have any tricks or advise on how to minimize the damage/pain? I'm not going to quit running, though. I run 10-12 miles a week right now. I've got a half marathon in 4 months and another 4 months after that. So I need to be increasing distance greatly. I know that I overpronate and am working of form correction. My legs are strong, since I have been running consistently for 12 years. The knee pain is just affecting my time and distance too much. My time has slowed so much, and most days I can't get past 5 or 6 miles.

How can get relief from pain and swelling of left knee? I injured my left knee (sprain) during a sporting event 6 weeks ago. First few days I followed the self-care directions (cold packs, elevated above heart while sleeping, no load on the weak knee etc.). There is no significant pain but when I wake every morning there is stiffness, swelling in the knee area and a dull pain until I warm up with some strech exercises. After a warm shower it is ok. But by evening, the pain is back with a bit of swelling. What advice you have for me to get back strength in my knees. I am dying to get back to my favorite sport - Tennis.
sporadic exploding knee pain, only relief is with full leg brace? I do have problems with the dics in my low back, but until now I have never had any problems with my left knee another than normal old wear and tear, no tramua of any kind. The pain started a couple of months ago, I was just laying back on my bed when the pain hit, I straigthened my leg because of the strength of the pain (way over 10 on the pain scale) and the pain eased then disappeared, couple of hours later same attack same results. The next night same thing, then a couple of daytime attacks. Went to ER, they took x-ray for some reason found nothing,but gave me a leg brace to wear. Surprising keeping it straight is the only thing that seems to help. My PCP had an mri done and diagnosised bursitis gave me Lodine bid, but no help and everything I have read about bursitis doesn't fit the bursts of pain I keep having.. Anyone have an ideal?

Osgood slaughters disease, need relief from knee pain... PLEASE ANSWER? I just started tennis 3 days ago, and my knee is already killing. It is so tender I cannot even touch it. The last time my knee was bothering me my doctor told me to stop running period. He said this would stop the issues so I couldn't run cross country. A year ago I stress fractured my left femur and because of my crutches I developed Osgood's in my right knee. I am also having left knee issues with inflammation under the knee cap recently and have an MRI scheduled later this month. In the mean time my doctor said I can play tennis, now I am in a lot of pain because the right knee is acting up too. What can I do, should I stop playing tennis just as I have a shot to make varsity?? I am 16, and my doctor originally told me to stop competitive running, but he thought tennis would be okay, that was about 6 moths ago. Natural pain relief for Osteochondritis Dessicans Lesions (OCD) of the Knee? My husband has had OCD of the knee since he was 15. He is now 24 and has 6 surgery's to correct this problem, one which included a cadavers bone graph. He is in a lot of pain and it has caused other problems such as hip displacia and herniated disc in his lower back. Again he is 24! Is diconal good for pain relief for a knee injury? I got injured in my last job and my knee dislocated. My knee popped back in as soon as i stood up but trapped the nerves behind the knee. My DR put me on diconal does anyone know what this is. I'm taking 2, 4 times a day and i find it hard to stay awake and i cant feel muy body from my neck down. Knee Pain? So for a while I've had moderate pain in my right knee. It's on the left side of the knee (towards the other leg). I've looked at the anatomy of the knee and it seems it's where the meniscus is. I don't notice any swelling, and I get pain in the knee when I extend it but not when I bend it. Also, this knee also pops (not audibly) when fully extended, and I can see the bottom portion of my leg rotate counter-clockwise for maybe a 1/4 inch. I've been to the doctor for this before but she said it was "most likely a weakness in the quad muscle, not holding the knee cap in place properly. So I've worked out with extra leg extensions (which hurts when I do so on the right knee) and I haven't had any relief. Do I need to keep training the muscle? Or do you think I have something else wrong with my knee?

Is there something from the health food store to help wtih my father's knee pain? He has Parkinsons disease and the doctor says this is a normal symptom. Three days ago I had the last of the 5 supartz shots for knee joint pain. I haven't received relief like I thought I would. I have constant pain with interverals of sharp pains in the shin. I'm unable to be on my feet for more than 15 minutes at a time because of the pain. The orthopedic surgeron says I'll need knee replacement surgery some day but that I'm too young for it now. I'm 43. But I'm in constant pain. Feel like I'm losing out on life because I'm unable to do things I'd like to do. I also have MS but it's in remission.

Does anyone have any info on COLD LASSER THERAPY for pain relief from arthritis? I have had knee replacement on both knee's but still have alot of pain. Doctor's label it as ARTHRITIS and NERVE DMAGE. Soneone recomended the cold lasser therapy 3X per week for 6 weeks and their pain was reduced sharply. Any infor would be appreciated.

I'm having knee problems. Any suggestions to help the pain? So for about a week I've been getting severe knee inflammation, and my doctor just told me i have some sort of syndrome and i need to ice my knees and take Motrin, It hurts really bad once I've sitting down for an hour or so and then suddenly get up, and it also hurts when I walk. I'm a runner, but I don't know if this had anything to do with it, because my knees do not hurt when I actually run. Besides the whole ice and Motrin thing, do you have any suggestions for pain relief?
Is it possible that a spinal epidural (for pain relief) can cause permanent weakness or numbness in the legs? Had 2 epidurals for lower back/hip/groin pain in 8 days. Since the second shot (which was about a month ago), I am barely able to walk due to my knees buckling. Also, if a doctor prescribes a second epidural because the first one seemed to help the pain somewhat, shouldn't the second one be done no sooner than 2 weeks after the first one? Thank you.
Joint pain relief? I have suffered from knee pain (right is worse than the left) for as long as I can rmember, but more recently I've started experiencing almost debillitating elbow pain (both elbows equally) which seems to be worse when I wake up from resting. I don't have health insurance at this time & therefore can not afford to see a doctor. i have this severe pain in knee? to sum it all up, i worked in a shop where i had to lift and lower vehicles all day. I put most of the pressure on my right knee as i bent down constantly at my job. I have a doc appt. for it today to get it checked out. The pain comes and goes and is very severe. I need something for the pain. But my question is how do i go about talking to my doctor in prescribing me pain medication. What is the best route to take when asking for it. I am certainly not an addict. But the problem is Vic's don't cut it i need at least 40mg of oxy just to set me off and even receive any pain relief at all. What is the strongest pain reliever that I can buy without a prescription that will ease my joint pain? I tore my ACL about ten years ago and have occassional yet intense bouts of pain in my knee. This is definitely one of those times and I will see a doctor soon but until then I need some immediate pain relief. Aleve is not enough anymore. Will acupuncture help with knee pain cause by patellar maltracking? I'm 25 and I've had a long running problem with both of my knees, specifically patellar maltracking. I had an operation on my left knee to try and correct the problem last Octoboer, I was told that the operation would either work or not, but I would be no worse off whatever the outcome. It's now worse, much worse. The paid is very intense and is interfering in both everyday life and work (I'm an electrician), it stopes me getting to sleep and then wakes me up in the morning. I've been taking a combination of paracetemol, dihydrocodeine, ibuprofen and diclofenac for 8 months and although it sometimes takes the edge of the pain I never acheive full relief. I've run out of ideas now, and someone has suggested acupuncture. I'm open to new ideas and frankly am willing to try anything, but I am dubious as to if it will make an difference for my condition, which isn't muscular. I was wandering if there is anyone who has been in a similar position who could offer an insight into if I should pursue acupuncture as a course of pain relief treatment? Thanks in advance. Edit: In response to Curious George, I've managed to get the art of working without kneeling down to a fine one so I know that isn't contributing. I'm actually unable to bear any weight on the left knee because of the operation anyway.
Knee pain - Dad not willing to take medication; believes these are pain killers? My dad is an educated person (retired professor of Chemistry living in Pakistan). Long time ago he developed knee pain (joints) and went to see his doctor who was national level doctor my dad found suffering from knee pain himself. Right or wrong this doctor told my dad to "learn how to live with this pain". From that day my dad was not willing to take any medication and believed all knee pain medicine were temporary relief type pain killers. He still believes taking such "pain killers" eventually make the matter worst because patient abuses joints wearing them out further by not feeling the pain. To me it seems science has come long way. What a doctor said 25 years ago might be true at that time but not anymore. My dad is now at a point where his knees crack badly and he cannot stand without stick or walk. He is about 80 years old now. Please help if there is any medication which is not a pain killer but works differently? "Repair" might not be possible but I guess I need to know something he will be comfortable taking. He will do research I am sure on whatever he takes but there must be something which is not a pain killer. He is in good health otherwise. Thanks in advance!

pain relief for knees? help? I'm a fifteen year old (former, I guess, at this point) athlete with patella-femoral syndrome. Lately, I've been in a lot of pain, so I've been trying out different creams and roll-ons, including Theragesic, Joint Flex, Aspercreme and Cat's Claw. But they don't work too well for me- they last about five to fifteen minutes and then I'm in pain again. Is there anything I can do to make them last longer, or maybe a different product that tends to work better?
Knee pain accociated with cycling perhaps? I live in amsterdam and as everyone does in this city I use my bike for transport. I ride usually for 2-3hrs (on and off) per day. Recently my knees have been hurting while riding especially when I have to pump hard to get up an incline. When I wake up in the morning and get up out of our low bed my knees hurt aswell until I take some ibuproferin. I have not yet gone to the doctor due to traveling schedules and such...just wondering if anyone here could give me a clue as to what may be going on and how else I can get relief from the pain. Let me add that this is a fairly recent development. I've been riding my bike everyday since march and it was the beginning of July that I began to really notice the pain and really this past week that it's been really painful. I'm 27 and not new to bike riding though this is a lot more exercise than I used to get.

What is causing my knee pain? I've been getting really painful knees recently. Its worst when I'm sitting (either on a chair or on my bed). Its not due to staying still for too long; in fact I have to change my position, crossing and uncrossing my legs etc, every 15 minutes or so because my knees hurt so much. I used to sit cross-legged all the time as a child so I'd be surprised if my sitting position is having an effect...? knee pain? i work in clothing retail and stand all day long...i'ved worked in retail for about 1 year and since the last 3 weeks if i'm on my feet longer than 5 or 6 hours my knees begin to feel sore and it becomes painful to walk. even when i lie down or sit down they continue to throb. i find that if i bend my legs and sit on them to stretch a little i feel a little relief as i'm stretching but nothing that lasts. the pain only subsides if i sleep a full 8 hrs+ but the cycle will continue. i'm only 19 years old so i feel like theres no reason for my body to be this weak. when i was in high school i played sports and have had a few issues with my knees, but nothing major, a sprain and such. i've also had x-rays and about 1 1/2 years ago and i seemed to be fine. so i'm wondering if anyone could give me any ideas as to what may be wrong and or what may help relieve some of the pain. thank you. and i apologize for the novel. i walk-around all day not just stand in one space. tons and tons and tons of walking

I get sharp knee pain that goes away random- I switch knee positions and I'm good- at times? I've been getting this knee pain, since I was in LA and I take pain relief, but it doesn't help. I was sitting idle and it started hurting so I just left where I was at and I was like I got to start working out again. The pain is right below my knee cap- and boy I can wake up and can't move- I just absorb the pain and then it fades away. Like-- 6. =' / I'm 14 now, and still get chronic-pains each day/night ... Except, over the years, the pain has spread. When it first started [and it started at random, I wasn't injured or harmed in any way that would cause it to start], it was just my knee cap.. But now, its my knee cap, around my knee, and my entire lower-leg, pretty much.. But still mainly just the shin-bone and kneecap.. What could this possibly be caused by? ... How do I prevent it? ... And how do I get immediate pain-relief??? ... Ibuprofens are starting to not work anymore [even though I've only been taking them --about 3 or 4 times a week-- for around 2 years o_O .... I shouldn't be immuned THAT fast.. Though I have become immuned to medicines, caffeine and other things really shortly after starting on them/using them/drinking them] .. Thats another thing~ .... Why do I become immune to something after only taking it a few times? Medicines don't help me when I'm sick anymore.. I've only have about 3 or 4 Five-Day-Treatment doses of anti-biotics [UTI] and they started to not be as effective after the 2nd time taking them o_O;;; .............. Coffee hasn't made me energized [or any other form of caffeine] for years. [Ive been drinking coffee since I was 3] Ohhhh, and all my life, I've gotten a TON of UTI's for unexplainable reasons. Do you know why I keep getting them? [Thankfully, I haven't had one for around 4 or 5 months.... --I think.. I've had some days where I have pain "down there" all day as if I had a UTI, but it would fade within a day or 2.. [ I didn't mean to make this so long, but I figured I might as well get my answers for my questions/issues now, instead of waiting long periods of time to re-post another question, since it doesnt get answered that way.. >.> Please help me out with all my concerns.. MAINLY, I wanna know why I've had this severe shin/knee pain for about 8 years... Since a young aaaggggee..... BTW~ .. When I was about 8 ... I was in so much pain with my knees, that I couldn't even get off of the floor.. I was sitting there, legs spread out, leaning against my couch crying cuz I couldn't move.... o.o;

How to get rid of knee pain? Basically I fell on my knee last night and now it's swollen and scraped. Pain from Bone Spur in knee? How long should it take for relief? I went to the doctor 5 days ago. I was diagnosed with bone spurs and some arthritis in the knee. Tooth Pain Relief after drinking? Here is what happened I went out for my birthday tonight and got quite drunk. Before leaving I noticed that I had some tooth pain in my two broken wisdom teeth (Been broken for two years only typically cause mild pain every 4-6 months) When I got home I laid down and now the pain is blinding. I took two vicodon I have for my chronic knee pain (I havent taken any for 6 months prior) No relief has come yet. I have since tried two ibuprophen I hope they help. Any ideas on how ot get rid of the pain?????
Any ideas on knee pain relief? I work at a library and have to kneel down a lot to put books away and stuff. My left knee is killing me. Any ideas? I don't know if ice will help or if heat would be better. Anything to help with this pain.
My friend is in need of relief for severe knee/joint pain even after having a cortisone injection? My clinical instructor is really suffering with knee pain. She is aware of the need for surgery, as this is a meniscus problem; I believe she has said, however in the meantime, the pain is excruciating and I really hate to see her suffering with this. Her position does not allow for "down-time" in order to rest the joints and pain meds give minimal relief. If you have any at home remedies or other advise that I may pass on to her, I would really appreciate it. Please know that she is in the medical field and very aware of how to care for herself with this condition so I would really welcome treatment options that are unusual and generally not known about that have worked for you or someone that you know. I don't care about knee pain relief, how can I HEAL my IT band permanently? Greetings! I currently have slight pain on the outside of my knee after several miles of running, leading me to believe it's my IT band. Several years ago I injured it by over-exerting myself for too many miles. After I injured it, it was severe, stinging pain. I let it heal for about 8 months, then slowly built up to about 6 miles with no pain whatsoever, then about 3 weeks ago or so I ran 9 miles and re-injured it (over-exerted myself again!). Other than taking it slower next time, what can I do to permanently heal it? I can grit it out with the pain in the short term, but I need this to be healed, not just relieved. Will simply massaging/ rolling out my IT band heal it 100%? Or will I need something else? Remember, I need this HEALED, not just numbed or relieved. In 3 years I have special operations military training I plan on passing my first time, but it I won't last a week if this keeps up. I need to be able to run 40-45 miles a week before entering BUD/s training. At this point my military future looks grim unless I can sort this out within a year or so. Can certain drugs or pain relief cause a heart attack and even death? My mother in law received a shot for knee pain, depo medrol, she had a pre exiting heart condition, she died 15 hours later, would anyone know some links about this? can this drug caused her to die?
