Joint pain - Gout? Psuedo-Gout? Something else? I am 30 years old, and every once in a while I have some sort of joint pain "flare up" - almost always in my ankle, the top of my foot (not my big toe) or my knee. It USUALLY lasts 3 days. It's mildly annoying the first day, super painful the next day (so I can just barely walk) and then stiff and a little pain the third day. By the fourth day it usually just feels a little stiff with no pain. Is this likely something like Gout or some other form of arthritis? I dont have other symptoms (that I am aware of, anyway...)
Vicious pains in both knees, swelling in ankles, not gout, not B12 deficiency, not rheumatoid, Whats my prob? I have been a trucker for years (46 years old)and have never suffered knee problems. 3 days into a new job driving new Volvo FH12, right knee swells up and hurts 24/7. Could only sleep with medication. Put up with this for 1 month. Had knee drained, went back to work the other knee started up. Vicious pains that dont go away, make me cry sometimes. Had that knee drained, still gives grief. Had to leave job, havent driven for 2 months and STILL have the symptoms. Have been tested for gout, vitamin b12 deficiency and rheumatoid everything, all negative. Does anyone have the faintest idea whats going on? My doctors havent...
I've had knee problems for the past 9 months or so. Anyone have a similar story with a good ending? Starting last November, my knee got really swollen. It was to the point where I couldn't bend it and the pressure of the fluid caused great pain. I've had x-rays, an MRI, and blood tests done that haven't pinpointed the exact cause. I've been seeing a rheumatologist because the doctors suspect I might have rheumatoid arthritis. The medication they gave me worked for a month or two, but my swollen knee is back. I've begun to wonder if the doctors really know what's wrong. I used Webmd and researched pseudogout and gout, which also match my symptoms. Anyone have any idea at all?

Have you ever felt legs like concrete, stopping you from walking almost altogether? Started to happen 5 years ago, beginning first with pain and inflammation of left knee, culminating in just stopping almost all movement_sort of like a robot_as I walked across a parking lot, barely able to reach sidewalk. From then on I would start to walk pretty normal, but still with pain and stiffness, with all "cement-like" feeling coming back if I walked couple of blocks. Seen by family doctor and checked for gout and arthritis, tests came back negative. Same for hospital visit less than 3 weeks later. When doctor referred me to rheutmatologist I could not manage by time I got appointment to even walk. Thought it just impossible to walk hospital grounds to get there!! Noticed with time that after couple of days of hardly walking or standing would make symptoms die down considerably. But now, five years later, being able to walk total of maybe six blocks daily and regular walk from one place to other in home, etc., has brought back pain, now mostly right knee and both legs.
What could cause sudden joint pain and swelling in the hands and feet? Last week my friend said she thought she was getting arthritis because her knees were aching. I think she is around 41 and she is very active (meaning she is always moving, walking, hiking, etc.) Now the pain is in her feet, knees, and elbows. Her hands and feet are so swollen they are itching and she can't even make a fist. She thinks it's gout (I'm not sure how to spell that). She doesn't want to take anything for the pain because she is afraid it will mask the symptoms and she won't be able to describe her pain accurately to a doctor. I told her to take arnica for the swelling. She is drinking tons of water and not drinking soda. i don't even know if this is correct, but I told her to elevate both her legs and arms with pillows. Have you or anyone you know experienced something like this? Did it go away?
Odd Symptoms: Hot, red, tingly, swollen? Alright, I've already asked this question before, but now I have pictures. Okay, so for quite a while now I've been having these really odd symptoms happening to me. The three most common places this happens is my heels, my knees, and my right pinky toe and the whole side of my right foot. From time to time at random I will feel a very tingly sensation and I will notice the area is beat red and hot to the touch. It also seems swollen. It mostly happens on my right knee/foot but today it happened on the left heel and started having a very strong pain to it. I've been tested for blood clots, limes disease, and even gout but they have all come back negative. I really want to know what is going on. Please help? His symptoms are: swollen and painful calves and feet. knee swelling and pain. sleep apnea. narcolepsy. fluid or mucus in the lungs. lack of oxygen to the brain (it seems as if he has lost his smarts and it gets worse the more time goes by). Shortness of breath. Weight gain and his belly button is popped out (he is an inny). Head congestion. Loss of feeling in fingers and toes. Severe coldness (he freezes when its 75 outside- he heats my mom and I out of the house). Poor circulation. He is very sick and refuses to see the doctor. We everyday, feel like he may be dead when we wake up...
foot worries/ neuropathy? I am in my mid 30s, a male, I am going to see a podiatrist abou this next week, but in the meantime, I am driviing myself nuts. I have had gout, but in the past three months, my feet have been hurting all over and they are swollen.l When I look up foot pain on the net, I get neuropathy, kidney failure, diabetes, etc. etc. NOw, I am freaking out. My question is, if I had these serious things, would foot pain be the only symptom. The pain can seem sharp and burning and tingling, like it says on the net, I guess. My knees are often stiff in the am as well. .blood sugar was normal a year ago. I walk a lot, because I live in NYC, and the pain has been somewhat relieved since I started wearing tennis shows. Also, on my left foot, the second two is bend toward the big toe. I also like to drink, and then came across alcoholic neuropathey! Checking my symptoms is very scary on the net. Any advice would be grteat.
Please some Help with my Mom- back again? Hi- My mom is 72 and was in great shape, very active , She is diabetic but controlled with diet and meds. She went in to the hospital in mid januaryfor an acute gout attack inboth knees, ankles and feet, which was resolved by colchicine, and the day she was relaeased she started with these symptoms, High BP- 187/91 and really nothing lower than 174/86 ( her blood pressure was always on the low range like 100/62), extreemly exhausted, weight loss, her sleep patters are off, ( insomnia), constipation, nausiouse, she is extreemly cold most of the time, no appetite, pain in her lower back ( not sure if it's by the kidney)and she has lost over 25lbs in 2 months. While in the hospital they noticed her TSH level was 13.2 I explined to them it must be lab error or transient , as her Tyroid was always normal. They insisisted she go on Synthroid 25mcg dailsy, well for 3 weeks they took her on and off it , after numberouse TSH test found her Tyrois was normal 4.11 T3 & T4 are both normal .-My Mom is basiucally bed ridden, the doctors just keep runnign the normal Blood test, ( cbc's) and keep sayign eveything is fine. I'm so scared She is also having pain int her stomach where they injected blood thinners and Both lower arms are"buring " - everyone says it's phlebitis, but that would have resolved by now as it's been over a 2 months. Her GP know's there's soemthign wrong , but it's not his feild .. he thinks "her body is out of whack" maybe due to the severity og=f the giut attach, so he refered us to an endocronologist which ran the same TSH & T3 and T4 test, which of course came back normal, We need some answers, the doctors won't look beyond her normal TSH function test, and My mom and the rest of my family can not go on like this much longer.... The sudden spike in her blood pressure is scarry..Plus her sudden on set of exhaustion, she get’s palpitations when she exerts herself…. Any help or advise would be appreciated
Has anybody got or know about Arthritis???Any advice? My bofreind has been suffering with pains in his hands, feet, elbows and knees for about 6 weeks. He was referred to the hospital for x-rays and a blood test , the blood test came back fine but there was signs of swelling in his joints on his hands and feet. The doctor advised him that he has arthritis but as he is only 27 they will treat him for gout before they consider Rheumatoid. We researched on internet and his symptoms do not seem to represent gout as he has had it for a long spell and it is not just in one place i.e. the toe. His joints are also cracking very loud, so much so they wake him up at night. He has been prescribed Naproxen for the pain and a strong anti inflammatory and told to come back in 1 month, which is a long time to wait. His job is physical and he is worried this will stop him from working and change his lifestyle dramatically, it is really getting him down, I am trying to keep him positive but having read about rheumatoid its scaryand im worried for him
Gout and drinking alcohol? When a friend of mine drinks alcohol over a certain amount, no matter whether or not he gets buzzed or drunk, he gets a pounding headache and his joints start hurting really badly, everything from wrist to elbow to knee, shoulder, ankle, etc etc. Someone told him it might be gout, anyone else have any idea what could cause such symptoms? He normally does not have joint pain otherwise.
Help. My left ankle is swollen and feels like its broken and I have not injured it.? Last week this started up. My left leg was in so much pain from my knee down. My knee I noticed was swollen in areas. Now thats gone but now the ankle is blown up. I have a hard time walking on it and the bone inside feels its being stabbed when I walk. When I sit I feel the throbbing pain. Its weird cause its only the left leg. I havent injured it. I work out eat well. Walk on the treadmill a lot. I do have weird kidney counts (really high or really low) but ive cut back on protein. ( I am hypoglycemic rare symptoms though) I went to a walk in clinic to check my uric acid as I read online that gout is one reason for this. But thte doctor says Im to young. (39 look 30). What could the reason be for this? I dont have red skin on the ankle. Its just puffy. And painful.
blood test results question ? In March of this year, I had some swollen lymph nodes in my neck. I was given antibiotics which did not help. Then an Ultrasound and CT scan confirmed unspecific swollen nodes but non that are too large but they recommended follow up. In July noticed I am itching and I have back pain and stomach issues. My WBC came back high at 13.5 and I had a CT of chest/abdomen/pelvic which was normal. In Sept after my white blood kept staying elevated and developed other symptoms like bone, muscle, and joint pain and weight loss, I went to a great hematologist who did a bone marrow biopsy which came back with slightly hypocellular marrow 40-50 but normal otherwise. Since then my CBC have been fairly normal except for HGB ~13.7, RBC 4.4, and HCT ~ 39 in the low end of the normal range and WBC in the high end of the normal range also. However, the following symptoms still persists: Fatigue, Flushing of skin, rashes, itching, pain in bones, muscles, joints, weakness. Recently developed some swelling behind the knees and some in the ankles. My uric acid is at 6 so it may be Gout developing. I have swollen lymph nodes in neck. BTW, I am a male in my late 30’s and I was on a medication that we later found has an unconfirmed leukemia connection. I stopped the medication in March when all this started. I also have hypothyroidism which I am on medication for. I am at a loss of what is going on. Could this still be Leukemia? I had the bone marrow biopsy back in early Sept. As soon as a week or so ago I had CBC with manual diff which also came back normal. How accurate is the bone marrow biopsy in detecting Leukemias? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated
Lower back pain poss. ref. to hip pain constant, what COULD it be? Alright a little bit about myself, 22 year old active-healthy male, presenting with constant mild-severe lumbar back pain, hip pain (may be refered pain as I read more). I've had JRA (juv. rheum. arthritis) when I was 7-13 now in remission. Hip surgery (torn labrum, L hip), achilis tendon rebuild and debride (R), torn cartilage (R knee), all motorcycle racing related. I've had lower back pain over the course of 4-6 years, now its getting worse and worse. Pain is at its peak in the morning, pain may subside partially after BM, sometimes not. Currently on Percecet 7.5/500 (currently as of 6 days ago, can't take anymore, hurts stomach too much) and Mobic 7.5 2x day (3rd week on it, no decrease in pain or inflammation, also contemplating stopping due to stomach pain after ingesting WITH a full meal). I'm currently seeing a primary care phys. and Rheumatologist (awaiting lab work to check for arthritis). As I said before, I've had JRA (R knee, R index finger, + Gout [R big-toe]), I like to think I know what arthritis and bone/con. tissue injuries feel like given my past. My back does NOT feel like arthritis to me, its not terribly inflamed and hot, it feels more like my hip or achillis did when I injured them. I also believe that the hip pain MAY BE refered due to various back problems I've read about back issues (sciatic nerve), pain occasionally goes from my back, to the hip, and to the thigh (almost feels like a hamstring pull). Also I've read that the back pain with pain subsiding after BM can be caused by constipation due to narcotic pain killers, I do not believe this is the case because I am very regular, normal BM's, and I've been very constipated when I had my achillis surgery (eating over 80mg of oxycodone a day). The pain will range from just a dull annoyance some days to so bad that I am not being able to tie my shoes (can't bend that far) on other days. I have no idea whats going on, my doctors have no idea whats going on. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could possibly be? I'm about to my breaking point with my doctors, I cannot take the percecet 7.5/500's anymore which is totally limiting my life (had to withdraw from college courses as I can't walk 3 miles around campus all day without pain killers and I'm about ready to quit my job because I can't scrub and carry heavy kitchen around without destroying my back). I've told my primary doc that I would like something without 500mg's of acetaminophen in it, ideally with NONE, as I have to take 2 on a good day when I wake up to 4 on a bad day for break through pain. He looks like at me like I am a straight opiate addict, which is VERY VERY frustrating for those of us young people that are really in pain. How can I even tell him I need something stronger without him getting this idea? I feel as if EVERY doctor I goto looks at me as an addict (I've been off for 6 days now with no withdrawl symptoms or cravings). Any help would be much appreciated. I respect the quick response but I've done all the stretching, strengthening exercises etc that they have told me to do in the recent years, nothing helps. I've been on muscle relaxers and that didn't do anything but put me to sleep and wake up with worse pain. I'm about ready to just conceded. The ONLY thing that has helped my pain and quality of life (being able to do everyday things such as school, work, activities) is narcotic pain relievers. I've been on probably 5-6 different NSAID's (sulindac, mobic, celebrex, etc) with no relief. I hate the idea of being on narc's because of the addictive properties and more importantly, I ride motorcycles (street and dirt), its the only thing I truely love doing. For obvious reasons I won't ride while under the influence of narc pain relievers but the catch 22 is they are the only thing that has continued to allow me to have a normal life.
Could this be gout? Doctor denies it but feels very similar? I have gout like symptoms since 3 years ago but my uric acid test is within normal range (last test was 3.7) and I'm a female in mid 30s. Doctor completely denies the possibility of gout and suspects shoes but I don't have "attacks" regularly and sometimes I can go without pain for months. What could it be? My symptoms are: • I only get attacks after I eat high calorie food or seafood (like shrimp) • I feel minor pain in my either side of big toes bottom part, that kind of feels like contraction which comes and goes (meaning, not a constant pain, like hurts every minute or two) for like 10 minute and completely goes away, may not return for weeks, months. • Pain is not that bad like other gout suffers describe. I can walk fine, it's just uncomfortable. • It only happens midnight - early morning, never during day. • Can happen in my knee. • No swelling or redness. When I don't have an attack, I can squeeze my toes and it feels fine. Attacks are getting milder and milder as time goes by with less frequency but I just would like to be completely gone but doctor can't tell what it is. Any suggestion? Particular food which triggers my attacks are: : Steak, Shrimp, Anchovies, Fried Food, which are high in purine.
What would make my knee in the middle of the night to start hurting w/ intense pain? got woke up w/ intense pain, swelling, stiff knee, ect. I did not hurt it or have any history of injury? Its been 72 hrs and doesnt seem to get better. I iced it and taking pain reliever but doesnt seem to help the swelling or the pain? Will go to the doctor on Monday if it doesnt get better. I have been drinking alot of summer beer and coffee? Could the symptoms be from dehydration or could it be something else like gout, tendinitis or high cholesterol?
Severe knee pain, swelling, tenderness, etc? I've recently been having extremely severe knee pain lately. It's located in my left knee on the left side all around my knee. It hurts to walk, stand and even just laying still resting. It's always swollen even when I wake up in the morning it is swollen. My knee gives out on me and it's warm to the touch. It also looks weird and there is a spot on the left side of my knee that is tender to the touch. I hyperextended my knee playing basketball in middle school and had to wear a knee brace to keep it stabilized. About a year ago I was dropped on the same knee and the pain started back. Recently I have hit my knee on the side on tables or fallen on it because it's very unstable and the pain has gotten so bad over the last few days that I am going to go to an ER or a walk in treatment center tomorrow to get it fixed. I'm in pain all day everyday. I recently worked as a cashier for about a year and now I work in a call center. I also walk about 3-4 blocks to get from my car to the building I work in also. Not sure if these could be things that are affecting my knee. I did a symptom check on webMD to see what possible injuries I could have and so far I've gotten ACL and PCL tears, meniscus tear, dislocated knee, repetitive motion injury, bursitis, stress fractures, gout and tendinitis. Any idea what could be going on or what I can do to get through tonight and tomorrow at work until I can get to a doctor? And should I go to an ER or should a regular walk in treatment center with x-ray capabilities be fine. Thanks a lot.
