What is the possible diagnosis for knee pain on the inside of the knee, but on when i extend it and walk.? I had ACL and MCL re-constructive surgery in September, my doctor cleared me. Today i was kicking a soccer ball, with a knee brace, and one time i kicked it my knee immediately started hurting. it hurts in the inside of my leg. i don't remember a popping sound like i had before. It only hurts when i extend my leg and when i put weight on it. It doesn't hurt when i have it bent only when i extend it. and there is minimal swelling. What is the likely cause of this? I did 4 months of rehab, strength training i still have full range of motion and it hurts from about 25 degrees to full extension. i can bend it all the way to ~135 degrees with no pain
knee pain diagnosis needed ASAP!? Okay, bare with me here. I'm having pain in my LEFT knee. I have never directly injured this knee outside of slight twists. (nothing in the past 5 years). I have had this leg reconstructed. The pain I am having is directly in the middle of the knee. I can touch the outside of the cap without pain, but if I touch the cap, the pain is excruciating. I also have trouble bending my knee up or down. When I rest, it's okay. When it's set, it's fine> it's the physical motion of bending that causes pain. Any ideas?
knee pain..........? please help me i have severe knee pain in my left knee and it has been going on for about 4 years my symptoms are sharp stabing through out my whole knee and it some times goes to my ankle and heel. does anyone know what this could be. oh and i've seen many docs (ortopiedics & family) and please don't tell me about antiinflammitory drugs they don't help at all. i've done research and i think it might be osteocondritis dissecans. if anyone can tell me if they know of anything that might be in diagnosis to my knee. thank you i've had 3 mri's and the docs don't want to do any type of surgery on me because i'm too young
Knee Pain - What is it? It feels like my knee cap is scraping as it slides over if i lock my knee out.? My knee started to hurt one day when i was running to the point where i had to stop running. This was about 2 1/2 years ago. I dont run now as a result (which I hate) but I am reluctant to see a doctor because a bad knee diagnosis could hurt my career. I can do biking or an eliptical machine without pain however. I also feel pain if i try to lock out my knee hard. I also noticed that if I push my right kneecap out to the outside (right), it glides much smoother. I'm assuming I have some sort of tracking problem but I'm not sure. Does this sound like a tracking problem and if so, what are the best exercises to pull my kneecap glide to the outside?
i have knee pain and wondering if anyone can give opionated diagnosis out of my detail? hey well me and my friend was kickboxing and as i lifted my left leg up to kick and put all my weight on my right leg it popped out of place and hurt real bad it swelled up pretty bad but was ok the nxt day although sore,,,,then it happened the next day,,,,now it hasnt happened for about a week but i cant stand on my knee for long without it starting to hurt (not seriously just like an annoying pain) im going to try and get an xray but does anyone know what that sounds like????? like a bone density thing or somthing
I'm having knee pain at rest, even lying down? I'm 45 years old and usually fairly active. I am overweight by about 30 lbs but am losing. I have been less active than usual due to recent minor surgery on my back. I have some osteoarthritis and been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (don't agree with diagnosis). But this pain is at rest, even, as I said, while lying down. It also hurts and is stiff with prolonges sitting. No pain on activity.
Can lupus cause excruciating knee pain? My 13 yr old son is still undergoing testing for a diagnosis. The drs think he may possibly have a Rheumatological disease (Lupus, Stills, etc). He may be having a "flare up" presently. He came down with a virus and 2 days later his knees began to hurt. They have been hurting so severely now for a week he hasn't been able to walk on them. Can Lupus or any other Rheum. disease cause this?
When I was about 10 I started having really bad pain in my knee, and later on in my hip? A doctor told me it was because my knee joint was growing at a different rate from my shin or thigh bone (I can't remember which). He did give me a medical name for this but I can't remember what it was, any help? Also he said I would grow out of it by the time I was 21, that was 3 years ago and still painful. Been having really bad hip pain recently as well, any help/advice/diagnosis much appreciated.
Knee pain. Can you suggest cause? Please don't say 'Go and see Dr.' as that is the obvious thing to do in the end and any intelligent person will not take an opinion on 'Answers' as an absolute diagnosis. The pain is so sharp it is like an electric shock and lasts just a fraction of second usually during rest or change of position. no loss of movement or other symptoms. Just wondered if anyone else had this and what they found was the cause. thank you for all polite answers.
MRI knee diagnosis "internal substance degeneration"? Had MRI due to pain and stiffness in knee. Came back with "tiny tear on medial meniscus" and "internal substance degeneration". What does internal substance degeneration mean? Shouldn't this be expressed in degrees to determine how serious it is? Also, I am only 49 yo, and not overweight. Is this a common thing, typical for my age?
Would it be a pre-existing condition if you felt pain in your knee THEN got insurance before going to MD? Please help! I had knee pain and didn't have health insurance. I waited for a few weeks and hoped it would go away...and it didn't. Then I realized I should get health insurance in case it got worse. Please keep in mind that I have NEVER saw a doctor or health care professional about my knee. I found out today that my insurance is active and I want to see an orthopedic MD right away. My question is this: If I go to the doctor and get something done (like an MRI) would the insurance company try to argue that a potential injury is a pre-existing condition b/c the pain started b4 the insurance? Please keep in mind that the glossary insurance company's definition of a pre-existing condition is: " Any medical condition or injury for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment, including the use of prescription drugs was recommended or received from a healthcare professional during the six (6) months immediately preceding the effective date of your medical insurance coverage."
Constant Burning and Pain in the Knee.? My mum has been suffering from constant and burning Knee Pain on the medial side of her right knee for around 3 months now. This is on the left hand side of the right knee. We have done every test possible (CT, MRI's X-rays etc) and now varicouse veins ultrasound, but doctors and Knee specialists can't seem to find anything wrong, and wipping their hands clean of the situation. But I know there is something wrong. She has had knee problems before due to beggining stages of osteoathritis, but doctors can't put the pain to this cause as it is constant and very painful. Her knee is swollen & tender and the constant, burning and pulling pain started flaring up after 2 days once she had some accupunture done. So not sure if this is related at all. It is difficult to see someone in constant pain all the time even when resting (pain tablets don't seem to work for long) so I am hoping some one/specialists can help. My question is would there be any specialists out there who could give advice as to what steps to take next or who to go and see to try and get some answers and releif? Also I think it could be a nerve pain, but doctors don't seem to look into this, is there anyone out there who can diagnose nerve damage in the knee? Any advice to take further steps and get a diagnosis would be great. Thanks.
Knee pain. Can anyone help "diagnose"? Before I'm asked, yes, I have seen an orthopedic/sports dr, have had an x-ray, and done phys ther. However, I never got a clear cut diagnosis, so maybe someone out there has had similar symptoms/problems? In my left knee: -Pain in the "soft spot" between the knee cap and tibia -After a few months of PT and the assigned stretches, the pain goes away, and I can stop doing the stretches, so long as I keep active (playing tennis regularly). However, in about mid-winter, the pain starts again when I go from being inactive (Nov-Jan) and start skiing and conditioning for tennis. -Hurts doing lunges (when starting to stand back up), when doing stairs, holding my leg out and straightening it, and sometimes when running. -During PT, when my therapist felt for swelling, there was also severe pain with pressure on the middle back of the knee, but it doesn't seem to be there all the time. Sound familiar to anyone?
Excruciating knee pain, unable to move? My wife did an exercise video last week and slightly hurt her knee. Her knee hurt until the next morning, but after that it went away. Then all of a sudden a week later, she woke up in pain and it just keeps getting worse. Right now she can barely move her leg and any attempt I make to move it makes her scream. It hurts right below the knee cap. The only thing she had done that would could possibly explain this was that she wore shoes that do not have great support. We have a 1 year old daughter and she has been playing on the floor, but that is normal. Looking it up online it looks like it could be Osgood-Shlatter but none of those symptoms include excruciating knee pain with an inability to bend. It looks like it could also be Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. The point is we are currently overseas and the most likely our internet searches will prove of more value than the local doctors. Can anyone think of a better diagnosis to send us in a better direction?
Constant knee pain - Any knee specialists out there?! Anyone with similar symptoms who can give me advice? I have had constant pain in my right knee for around 10 months. The pain is quite mild most of the time but gets worse with exercise, walking for long periods or sitting for long periods. It feels very uncomfortable to bend my knee out to the side. There is no redness or swelling. I have seen 2 GPs and a physiotherapist and all ive been given is painkillers and advice not to do any strenuous exercise but no diagnosis or solution. I used to b very active but any excercise other than swimming is now too painful. Im 23. Any advice would b much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Unsolved Knee pain mystery? Not looking for a diagnosis, but perhaps someone who has shared my frusteration or has any insight. I started getting pain in the inside of my left knee about 6 months ago. I was diagnosed with a sprained ACL after an MRI. That healed after much physical therapy, but the inner side of my knee is very tender and i can not bear weight on it for too long. I'm in my 20's and have never had an injury. My second MRI and xray showed up normal. I'm an avid athlete and have had to put my life on hold because of this "injury." Orthopedics aren't sure what's wrong and have been administering Haylgan shots to cure my ailments. Next step is arthroscopic surgery i think. Not sure what else to do, although not sure how surgery is going to cure something an MRI can't detect. Any thoughts?
Have you used a treadmill with knee complications? I've read that walking on a treadmill is better than walking on the ground outside because the treadmill provides dynamic cushioning (or something like that). I'm wondering if anyone with knee pains has used a treadmill and how it worked out for you? I'm not sure on a specific diagnosis at this time, possibly a dislocated kneecap, arthritis, or something else, so I'm just looking for general information on how treadmills and knee problems go together. Thanks.
Sudden onset of knee joint pain? Never had any knee pain before. After about 5 mile walk, August 5, 2008, the next morning both knees were hurting. The right cleared up in a week. But the left has been stiff and painful ever since, also calf muscle and heel gets tight as drum too. I had been at resort at the time and in the common hot tub prior to onset. Knee specialist ordered MRI, and saw knee specialist. He advised no damage, everything looked pretty good, the radiologist's report noted some inflamation, which (rightly or wrongly?) he attributed to arthritis. I am not comfortable with that diagnosis. As this was not a gradual thing...but overnight onset. Anyone have any other suggestions. On walks, the longer I walk the better it gets, until no discomfort at all. If I sit, both knees now get stiff, and have to take stutter steps to get going.
my preschooler has intermittent knee pain? my 3yr old daughter appears to be and is usually very healthy, but she does have random weird medical things happen to her. When she was 1-1&1/2 she was turning blue (still breathing) and getting really cold and her extremities would be a bit stiff. She's has reactive airway/asthma and reflux issues to this day. She also had osteomyelitis when she was 1&1/2 and had to have surgery on her left femur under her growth plate. Lately she's been complaining about her knee (the last 6months) on and off. it's always when she's doing something active, but not every time she's active if that makes sense. It's always her left leg, and it always seems to get better when she calms down. She also always surprises the doctors with her random diagnosis because she's happy and playing.... even when she had the bone infection it took 3 weeks to get a diagnosis because the dr. was convinced she would be refusing to walk if there was an infection - not just slightly limping like she was. So, as you can imagine after realizing she's been compaining consistenly about the same knee for months, i've started to worry some.... any ideas on what my next step should be since she's not in obvious pain and it's not really predictable?

I have in fact called the pediatrician... she can't get in until Friday - and even though I have a great relationship with her, she was not my daughters doctor until last year, so she wasn't involved in her medical history persay. So, I like to have prepared topics, ideas, or questions to ask before appts which is why I posted this. In my experience with my daughter, she does not display typical characteristics of a sick kid when she's sick - so I have to really push to get things looked into and I don't want her to have to have unnecessary tests if this is just growing pains. and when I say consistently complaining about her knee, I mean once every 1-2 weeks, not daily... and she is VERY active daily.
4 month old knee pain...? During a soccer game about for or five months ago i hurt my knee. It happened when i took a hard step to the right and there was no bounce in the step. it felt like my thigh bone and my shin collided. ever since then there has been a sharp pain right behind my kneecap, inside the joint, whenever i walk for an extended or if i run. walking up stairs hurts too. i went to the doctor and the athletic trainer at school, they couldnt diagnose me exactly but they narrowed it down a bit, the one they both said was torn miniscus. If you could help me choose wether an MRI should be done, or just help the diagnosis, it would be much appreciated. there was little if any swelling and the trainer said it is the inner part of the of the meniscus if anything.
mystery knee diagnosis? so i injured my knee cheering i badly hyper extended it and hear a pop... i went into the doctors a day later there was no significant swelling and no breaks or fractures. it doesn't hurt so completely terribly to walk on it but it does ache and throb. the pain goes from the center of my knee and wraps around the back when i bend my knee i feel a pop right above the knee cap this has been going on for a month can anyone help?
Runners knee / patellofemoral pain? I have had 'runners knee' for 7 years (previous cycling injury). After the first injury I saw a biokineticist (didn't help), also saw a sports physician, knee surgeon, podiatrist. All gave the same diagnosis and treatment: rehabilitative exercise. I did the exercises for 3 months, but it didn't help. The pain would only occur after cycling, so I didn't cycle for 7 years. I tried running a couple of times, and a few months ago was able to run without pain, during or after. THen tried cycling, and amazing! could cycle without pain. Thought it was cured. So i bought a brand new bike, and had it professionally set up. It brought the pain back severely. Tried running, and that was now painful again. So I'm back with a biokineticist again. I'm looking for people who have experienced chronic runner's knee (especially cyclists!) and would love to know how you got over it, or if you haven't. I should have mentioned, I'm not actually a runner, I'm a cyclist - I want to get back on my bike, but can't....
Saw Physical Therapist for knee pain? The x-ray showed I had more arthritis (not aware I had a previous x-ray) and have never had knee problems. therapist recommended that I do a three exercises abductors, adductors and quad press for six weeks, which I have done, but really not much better. I was dubious about her diagnosis at the time...what now? I guess I could go back, but any thoughts???
Injured Knee Skimboarding - Need Diagnosis? About a month ago I was skim-boarding at the beach and flew off my skim-board and landed on my right knee. At first I could barely walk but after a couple of minutes I was able to get around on it. The next day I woke up with my knee in terrible pain when I tried to walk or bend. This pain has since subsided a little bit but there are still times when my knee acts like it is going to give out all together. I feel as though the healing has plateaued, so I wanted to share some of my symptoms and see if anyone knows what kind/type of knee injury this could be. 1. There was never any surface pain or bruising, all pain seemed to be coming from inside the knee. 2. Extreme pain when: a) try to cross my right leg when sitting b) squat down c) climb stairs d) turn my right foot clockwise 3. There is also an aching pain in the mornings and after long car trips. I would really appreciate any knowledge or advice from someone who recognizes these symptoms.
About knee pain and swelling? no looking for a diagnosis, just information about what to tell my doc. 43 yeas old with fibromyalgia that greatly affects my right leg for some reason. Friday evening, i went to get up quickly and my foot got hung up on the ottoman of the chair and knee twisted. this is the second twist i have had of the same knee. first twist included a popping sensation half way down the outside of my leg - between the muscle of my calf and shin bones (not sure that makes any sense.) anyway, that spot burns, the top of my foot hurts by my big toe, and behind my knee is very painful. feels better if i am standing or sitting with it straight out and supported. heat feels better than ice although the knee is swollen. had a knee xray after first twist with no abnormalities. any thoughts on what i should tell the doctor to make my symptoms as clear as possible? what can i do until i get into the doctor?
Pain behind knee, sciatica? Hello, I'm a healthy 21 year-old woman overall, but I suffer from PCOS, insulin resistance and palindromic rheumatism (a form of rheumatoid arthritis that doesn't damages the joints). Recently I've also been diagnosed with a pinched nerve at L4/L5/S1, after I complained of moderate to severe calf pain as well as numbness to my doctor. An MRI was done which confirmed the diagnosis. I started PT and after three months got a lot better and stopped. But recently I've been having intermittent aches behind my knees and a vague cramping pain in my calf. The calf pain is similar to I've had before, so I'm not worried, but the pain behind the knee is a first. I went to see my doc, who a priori ruled out a blood clot, as my leg is not swollen, red or warm; the pain is not severe or constant and moves around a bit (behind the knee, sometimes above it into the tight, sometimes around it...); and I've no risk factors. I also sometimes get pain in my buttocks. Could this pain behind my knee be caused by sciatica?
Knee and shin pain that will not go away? While in the military I developed some shin pain, a couple days off and it got better. Then it came back. Couple more days off, then more pain. Went to see the doc and he said it was shin splints. Ok, couple weeks off from running and they were better, but then the pain came back. I had my gait looked at and everything was fine, new, good quality shoes, everything was great but I was still getting pain. It would go away after longer and longer times between running. X-ray showed nothing, same with a bone scan. Ultimately I ended up with a permanent profile (no more running at all) but then it got to the point that just walking would bring on pain. The pain extended from my knees to just above my ankles. The end result was me separating from the military with no explanation as to what was wrong. So for the last two years I still have pain with as little walking/standing as possible. Now (for the past few months anyway) my knees are killing me too. If they are bent at all they hurt, often bad enough that I can't walk. I'm often woken up by the pain just from having a knee bent while I sleep. I'm only 28 so I don't think its arthritis. And all the symptoms aren't there either. So before I go see another doctor that will tell me it's shin splints for the 100th time, anyone have an alternative diagnosis. For some odd reason I cant add a reply, so Ill try here... While I could agree that it is shin splints, wouldn't they go away after over 2 years of not running. The farthest I walk is while grocery shopping once a week. Probably less then a half mile. And I don't stand at work. "In many cases shin splints can result from intense physical activity such as running or jumping, and is a condition that can often take a long time to heal." What do they mean by "many cases"? What about the rest of the cases? And how long is "a long time"? Two years should be enough I would think. Pronation is an interesting thought though. As a kid my ankles used to give out(roll in) while walking on any kind of uneven terrain. But it got better as I got older. And during my gait test I assume they would have caught that.
X-Rays vs MRI for knee and foot pain? I had xrays of my knees and feet last year. I was told I had degenrative arthritis. I had gotten injections and have had less pain the past year. Now I am hurting again and going back to my rhuematologist next week. Should I request an MRI instead of Xrays? My insurance is good. I would rather have the best diagnosis possible. Is an Xray better or an MRI better? or are they basically the same?
Knee/Upper Shin Pain in 11 Year Old? Hi, This 11 year old is having problems with her right knee... two-ish inches below her knee on her shin. She wasn't kicked or anything. It doesn't hurt at all if you touch it or prod it. She can bend her knee and stretch just fine, but when she runs it bothers her. It only hurts when she runs, walks fast, or goes up and down stairs. She's had it for about 3 weeks, and she's had past problems with her feet and Achilles tendon. (Achilies tendon strain, Plantar Fasciitis) She has flat feet and walks more on the front part of her feet... would that have anything to do with it? She does horseback, but only rides once a week for 30 minutes to an hour. She has been running at school, but nothing very strenuous at all. Any diagnosis as to what it might be, or what she can do about it? -It ISN'T growing pains. Thanks!
I have pain in my right knee and it is becoming bothersome...anyone know what the cause may be?? I have had problems with this knee since I was 18...I'm 23 now. The pain usually happened off and on a few times a year when I'd bend down and try to stand up. The pain would sometimes knock me down because I couldn't straighten it. Well 2 months ago I got drunk and ended up too drunk and decided I could learn how to spin on a pole at the club/bar. Well the next day I saw all the bruises on my right knee...since then my knee has had mild pain off and on...but the past week it's gotten worse. It kills to walk up stairs and the rest of the time it's just uncomfortable with a slight burning sensation inside of it. Occasionally it's shooting small pains up and down and even behind my leg. Sometimes a sharp stabbing pain shoots through the cap. It seems a bit swollen around the knee cap...not too bad...but the cap seems slightly raised. It also has a popping noise. I can't see a doc yet, I know I can't get a diagnosis but anything can help. Any ideas? What should I do with it? Remember...I did that 2 months ago...not recently...
I saw the doc for back pain that was giong down both of my legs ? She said sciatica normally starts lower, like in the buttocks, but couldn't think of anything else to diagnose me with, so that's the diagnosis I got. The worst pain is on the right side of my lower back. But behind my left knee I feel this weird feeling when I walk and my left leg has been tingling. Does this sound like it is related even though it's on different sides?
toenail falls off, feet big and red, pain up my leg. any diagnosis? I started seeing blister like sores on the part of the second toe where the big toe rubs it, then my big toenail falls of, and during this time my feet are somewhat swolen. well, now, my feet are REALLY swollen. there are little hole like marks on tthe bottom of my feet, where it looks like the skin was just streched to far, there is a huge blister at the bottom part of one of my big toes, and a pain that started out vaguely in the outer part of my ankle, has now worked its way to my knee, and outer thigh. but the pain is only on the left leg. And I have been noticing that I am getting little bruises on my thighs. Can anyone help fugure out what this is? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
Lower left back/leg pain...doctors have ideas, no exact diagnosis though. Help??? For bout a month now, I've been in and out of the doctor's office, an orthopedic, and now a physical therapist's office. I've had x-rays of my hips and lower back, a CT Scan of my spleen since I'm just getting over mono, blood work to rule out a couple of things that run in my family like lupus, and an ultrasound of my kidneys to see if it was a kidney stone like my doctor originally thought. When all of that was ruled out, I was sent to an orthopedic. The orthopedic said that it sounded like my facet joints being inflamed due to the mono though it was rare for my age, and my muscles were tightening in response which could have resulted in my siatic (not sure how to spell that, sorry) nerve being pinched by them. I was told physical therapy for two week, twice a week, my muscle relaxers and an anti-inflammatory. When I saw the therapist, at the end of the session, she said it sounded and seemed more like a disc problem to her. We told her that disc issues run in my family which they do, on all sides. I go back to therapy this Wednesday and Friday, and then the orthopedic on Friday afternoon after therapy. If I'm not feeling better which I haven't been, then I go for an MRI. I've been on 3 different pain killers which I've been told to stop taking them now to prevent getting an addiction to them. I can only sit in the computer chair, I'm home bound from school (a teacher from the county comes to me), I can't bend in any way, I can barely get dressed, I can't even lift my left leg up to put a sock on. I'm a 16 year old female, I've always had minor back problems, at least the last few years I have, but nothing ever quite like this. My dad seems to agree with the therapist, and I'm just worrying a lot. The pain goes from the lower left side of my back, through my butt, down my leg to my foot and back up, just on the back side of my leg. For a few days the pain was just to my knee and back, but it's started going down farther. I'm currently sleeping on the couch before I can't lift my leg to get in my bed (it's a higher then normal bed), and this has been going on for the last month or so like I stated above. Is there a doctor on here or someone that's gone through something similar that could maybe give me an idea of what exactly this could be because if it's a disc issue then I'm basically looking at surgery and missing a lot of the last 9 weeks of the school year which the 9 weeks starts tomorrow and I've already missed basically half of this semester.
How to take care of a torn ligament in the knee of about 4 months old? I fell very badly about 4 months ago and received a knee injury. I experienced intense swelling, instability, and was not able to stand up and walk or even bend the leg by itself—I had to move it with my hands. The doctor who saw my X-Rays told me that everything was fine and how to take care of the injury—ice, anti-inflammatory pills, elevation… I did all of those things and stayed in bed for 2 weeks until I was able to walk but with some pain after doing so all day. Now after playing ball on the beach, I’m having terrible pains each day and even more at night. The pain is always at the left side of my knee and feels like it extends to the mid-thigh and to the middle of the leg; the left side of the knee front bone (patella) also hurts at the same time. I I always believed that it was a torn ligament in the knee what I had but since the doctor didn’t give any follow-up to my injury, I was not able to receive any medical care. Please, if you have come to a possible diagnosis of what may be happening to me, please let me know. Especially what I can do to take care of my knee now that 4 months have passed and regardless of all my care my knee still hurts and doesn’t allow me to enjoy life.
Sharp and aching pain in knees? For the past 18 months or so I have been dealing with mild to mod. knee pain and sometimes severe (rare). The pain started out of the blue (NO previous knee injury). I felt a sharp pain throughout my right knee. The pain has since persisted. My left knee began hurting some time later. I have been to three different doctors (2 orthopedics and my family Dr.) and to a phys. therapist (two months). The sharp pain is under both knee caps and worsens when i flex my quad muscle. The left and right sides of knees are the most aggravating, as the ache after walking up/down stairs, walking/running for a period of time, standing for long periods of time, sitting for shorter periods of time, and squatting for short periods. All three doctors have given diff. diagnosis. Prior or Current Meds include: Tylenol, Goodys Powder, various anti-inflam, and perscription pain med. I am only 23 and I am aggravated with insesent pain. Has anyone been diagnosed with similar symptoms? Thanks to all
plagued by BAD headaches, joint pain, neck pain, hands and feet pain, no motivation, intense fatigue? Some one dear (my older sister whom I have not seen in over 8 years that lives miles away) to me has been suffering form the following symptoms and the Drs she seen has done lots of tests and none point to any diagnosis: the bad headaches, neck pain shoulder pain, back pain, arm pain, hand pain, leg pain, knees pain, no energy, feet pain, ankle pain, no motavation, hip pain, and fatigue seem to be getting worse. She also has seasonal allergies but I doubt that is a link to any of the other symptoms. ANYONE have these problems and have a answer for us? Shes seen a neurologist, shes had numerous tests done, shes not depressed (besides the fact that shes sad we cant see each other)she has the most beautiful family in the world(3 kids and a most suportive husband). The headaches seem to plague her more than anything else I have noticed-yet the neurologist has not found anything to link it to, not even with the other symptoms.
Knee problems? I've had knee problems for about two months now. One day during my gym period, I was running around a track. All of the sudden, I feel this crack around my knee cap and I fell right to the ground. I experienced knee pain for a few weeks and it seemed to get better. I started tryouts for basketball just today and the same thing happened to me again. Can anyone tell me the diagnosis might be and how I could treat it? Also, can anyone tell me if it might be how I run that caused it?
Diagnosis of lupus? Please do not give me information that you got from google. I know what lupus is. I know what the symptoms are. I am going to the doctor soon. I'd prefer that you answer only if you have lupus or you are a health care professional. How is lupus accurately diagnosed? Should I see a rheumatologist to ensure an accurate diagnosis? Does it sound like I may have lupus? I'm a white 17 yo female. I've been having moderate to severe knee pain and sporadic episodes of breathing problems, pleuritic chest pain, and random joint pain esp. in the hands, wrist and hips for many years. 7 years ago I was diagnosed with lupus with a blood test (not sure what type). Saw a different doc who gave me another blood test (think it was a CBC) and she told me I did not have lupus. Around the same time I was diagnosed with recreational asthma. I was diagnosed with osgood-schlatters about a year ago. I think this definitely played a role in my knee pain, but I think something else is causing it too. Children usually only have pain from osgoods for a couple of months and I've had pain for well over 7 years. Also, osgood's pain very, VERY rarely continues after the growth plates of the bone are close, but I recently had X-rays done on my knees after a car accident and they showed that my growth plates are already closed, yet I'm still experiencing frequent bouts of pain.
patellar knee problem months after surgery and possible rsd? totally frustrated? i was in a car accident and was injured about a year and a half ago, and was diagnosed with maltracking problems after odd pain arose in september. i had a lateral release in october.. but i'm still having terrible knee pain, even after months of physical therapy. i was referred by my orthopedic surgeon to another surgeon in the same practice, and he diagnosed me with RSD. my PTs are very surprised with this diagnosis, and after looking up the symptoms, i don't exhibit most of them (my knee is sometimes warm to touch, and my surgeon said my bones looked "washed out from the rsd" on the x-ray). he referred me to a pain management doctor, but i'm just sick of all of this - i feel like i'm just being shuffled around. i have an appointment with another surgeon out of that practice this fri, but does anyone have any ideas or advice or anything? i'm a full-time college student and working and in the middle of a lawsuit, and totally stressed... anything would be appreciated.
my knee has been injured for three months, and there is no improvement, the strengthening exercises dont work? i have had lateral knee pain in both knees for over three months now. i have been to various phisios who think that i have illotibial band sydrome. whilst it does hurt mostly at the end of my illotibial band it seems odd that it would be this as even before my injury i regularly did excercises to stregthenthen my illotibial band so am suprised that this is the diagnosis. i am being referred to a ortheapedic, but am concerened that the injury is much worse than anticipated, espescially as it has not improved, despite me doing the excersises i have been given. sometimes the pain is so bad i cannot walk, if i try to run just a few metres it hurts again. i am cross training to try and keep up my fitness but somtimes even swimming hurts. strangley biking is ok, even though i cannot even aquajog without pain. i desperatley want to return to running, and if anyone has any idea what this injury could be i would be grateful for some advice.
Need help! Have pain in upper thigh and groin area, possibly hip.No doctor diagnosis, anybody similiar? I've been in therapy due to a car accident. The pain did not start immediately when the accident occurred, but rather during therapy sessions. I can't lift my leg to get in the car. I have to go in backward with knee bent to get over the threshold. The pain is getting worse. I am having pain now when sitting. Padded chairs last longer, hard chairs I can stand for only minutes. Pain lessens when laying flat or standing. When laying flat I couldn't lift my own leg to 90% angle. Some sort of mind pain block, as my husband could get it to do so. However, once the leg was up at a 90% angle, there was only a small amount of aching pain, not intense. Upon lowering; however, he accidentally dropped it the last 4 inches or so, I nearly went solar. Rotation of the hip out is also incredibly painful. X-rays of pelvis, hip, and upper thigh, show no fractures, nor arthritis (beyond mild degenerative). Help! What in the world is this? My doctor doesn't appear to be in a hurry to do anything.
If your cartillage is repaired in arthoscopic knee surgery, shouldn't the doctor give you crutches? My grandma is known for medically crying wolf. Today, she had arthoscopic knee surgery. For weeks, she's been complaining about knee pain and limping in this crazy exagerrated manor. She was unable to have an MRI for a diagnosis, so they scheduled the surgery. Her boyfriend took her to the surgery, so we couldn't talk to the doctor afterward. Now, she's telling everyone that the doctor had to repair her cartillage during the surgery. But, she's walking fairly normally and was not given crutches or anything even for today. (She is in her 70s). What are the chances that this is legitimate? I don't want to ignore her if it's real, but I'm also tired of the games and don't want to encourage these lies... any insight?
Help with diagnosis? No fever but other symptoms similar to the flu? Symptoms: -Intense headache that fades in intensity at times -Extreme nausea at times, faint at others -Unlocalized abdominal pain - Weakness -Fatigue -Inability to concentrate/focus -Some joint pain (specifically knees, they keep cracking) - Puffy, itchy face NO FEVER can anyone help?

Chronic low back pain with no diagnosis.? I am a 43 yo female with chronic low back pain. I have been through MRIs, CTs, Mylorams, sensory and nerve conduction studies, plain x-rays, ultrasounds and physical therapy. I've had cortizone shots, as well. My pain began back in 1986 during my first pregnancy. At 26 I had a partial hysterectomy. Recently I have had two colonoscopies and surgery to remove my ovaries in which they found an extensive amount of scar tissue and endometriosis -- which was not the reason I had the partial hysterctomy. Until April 1, 2008, I would experience constant aching in the low back, but only suffered severe bouts about five or six times a year. On March 31, 2008, I fell flat on my back and have had severe low back pain ever since. My symptoms are as follows: The triangular area at the small of my back will swell enough that I can cup my hand around it. The SI joint on the left side is very tender. I have a stinging pain that goes from the SI joint, around my buttocks and left hip, crossing over to my left groin area, down the inner thigh all the way to my toes. I have severe aching in both my feet. My left knee will swell twice its normal size. I often cannot walk or stand because the weight causes the pain to become more severe. I cannot sleep at night because I can't get comfortable. This has always been located on the same side (left) with the same symptoms, although now the symptoms are constant. The doctors don't seem to be finding anything on any of the tests. My neurologist said that I have mild L5 nerve root damage, but nothing is compressing the L5 nerve root. I do have a small disk bulge at that level, but again, not compressing the root on films. She's the one that found mass that led to surgery and other findings (that didn't show up on films, either!) I had colonoscopy from severe constipation with extreme gas and bloating, but that came out clear, too, but symptoms still exist. And I have had some unexplained weight gain, as well. Any ideas or suggestions on who I should see next?
Knee pain from an injury years ago......? I know that you guys will not be able to give me an "actual" answer or diagnosis- I'm just wondering if anyone has any speculations as to what might be the problem. About 7-8 years ago, I was jogging out to my car in the dark to grab something. I caught my shin on a high, long trailer hitch and fell down- landing on my left knee. I think the impact was sort of around the top of the knee cap. It hurt quite a bit after it happened- but I also have a high pain tolerance. I figured I had bruised myself pretty bad and it just take it's course and that would be that. I did not go to the DR (thanks to my high pain tolerance)- every year since then, it has sort of "acted up" in the winter- but once again, not quite enough to send me running to the DR. It gets warm and starts to ache if I bend it for extended periods of time. Now, it's starting to bother me when I walk up the stairs and or bend down (probably doesn't help that I have my son in tow usually). The pain seems most intense at the top of the knee cap, and it sort of feels like it's radiating up my leg a bit. Any vague ideas?
Diagnosis for husbands knee problems? Last friday my husband began having problems with his knee after jumping out of a 5 ton fuel truck. It pops a lot and it hurts him to bend it. It hurts to walk, especially up and down steps. He's a US Marine so you can imagine the physical stress that is put on his knee. He also has history of arthritis in his family. Any ideas as to what the problem could be, or any ideas to relieve the pain? Thanks
Diagnosis on knee injury? I jumped off a chair yesterday and didn't notice anything unusual until about 10 minutes later. My knee couldn't lock or fully bend the opposite direction without feeling a lot of pressure. It feels as if it will pop but it doesn't. My knee appears to be the same as my other knee and there is not really any swelling. I can't walk on it because my knee cap feels unstable and unable to support me. My leg feels the most comfortable when it is at a 120 degree angle. It feels better once I stay off it for a period of time, but I still am unable to walk and I have been off of it overnight. Anyone think they know what this might be or how to solve this problem? (I'll most likely see a doctor if the pain persists)
knee problems and pain with no diagnosis. please help? okay. my knee started hurting 4 years ago. eventually it got to the point where my knee would "pop" or crack, and it'd give out...it was so painful. i've been to every doctor imaginably. rhumatologist, arthritic doctor, and ive had blood tests, mri and xrays. with no other diagnosis, my doctor decided i have patella femoral syndrome. ice and a knee brace along with exexercisess what they prescribed. my knee pain has come and gone over the last four years usually the pain easing up after about 4 months. but when i have the pain its SO bad. its sharp and i can barely walk. and like i mentioned before, it pops out and makes me fall over. if any one has ANY ideas please let me know thanks so much.
mystery diagnosis.. sever knee pain? All my life i have had intense knee pains. It feels like a sharp gushing pain that comes out from under my knee caps and shoots up my thigh bones. It can be one knee, sometimes both. Sometimes one and than the other right after. Its never predicted, never on a schedule and nothing really triggers it. Many basic doctors have looked into it but no real answers, always kind of this, a little that or maybe this. But nothing set and nothing helps. And its VERY VERY painful. Crippling painful. My earliest memory is in kindergarten and im now 19. I have a two year old daughter who i believe is having them as well, or beginning too. She takes my hand and places it on her knee and says "mommy, hurt, mommy knee hurt. knee hurt." I don't know what to do. I don't want her to go her life with this, i know how painful it is. And growing up you cant play sports cause you never know when they will come. Its so painful you wish they would just go ahead and take your leg off. It hurts so bad. I'm scared she has it. I don't know how to help. Growing up i tried everything, warm baths, pain meds, rubbing, resting, elevating them, vitamins, nothing helps. I don't want her to go threw that. Help me figure out what is going on, and what do i do about it? please help us. I'm afraid for my daughter. Any tips, or suggestions or possibilities will be accepted. Please help us.
Knee Pain when the weather changes, Doctor didn't give me a diagnosis and i don't know what to do, please help? About 3 years ago i twisted my knee the wrong way and probably sprained my knee, however i never got it checked. Since then when the weather changes, particularly when its going to rain, i have extreme pain in my knee on the sides. I went to the Sports Medicine clinic and they took x-rays. The Doctor said the x-rays looked fine. He had me sit in a chair and he put his hand over my kneecap and told me to straighten it and then bend it. There was a popping sound. He didn't seem to concerned about it and gave me a knee brace and a script for Naproxen. That seemed to help. A couple months later the pain got really bad and now is in BOTH knees. I went back and the doctor said that is till have the popping sound in the one knee and now in the other. He extended my knees on the table and said that he could dislocate my knee if he wanted to cause the muscles/ligaments that hold my kneecap in place were very weak. He gave me another script for Naproxen and one for Vicodine for the pain. Told me to wear my brace when i felt the pain coming on and to wear it for a couple days and to come back if i had anymore problems. He also told me to do some stretching at home and if i came back again he would probably try a cortizone shot. And in the future i might need a double knee replacement!?!! I still have problems with my knees when the weather changes and i dont know what to do. The doctor didnt tell me exactly what i have. Can anyone help me?
KNEE PAIN. please help asap!? okay. my knee started hurting 4 years ago. eventually it got to the point where my knee would "pop" or crack, and it'd give out...it was so painful. i've been to every doctor imaginably. rhumatologist, arthritic doctor, and ive had blood tests, mri and xrays. with no other diagnosis, my doctor decided i have patella femoral syndrome. ice and a knee brace along with exercises what they prescribed. my knee pain has come and gone over the last four years usually the pain easing up after about 4 months. but when i have the pain its SO bad. its sharp and i can barely walk. and like i mentioned before, it pops out and makes me fall over. if any one has ANY ideas please let me know thanks so much.
I've got a strange knee pain issue I need some thoughts on? I've got an appointment with an Orthopedic M.D. in about 1 week but thought I would post my knee pain situation to get some thoughts on what might be the cause. I'm a pretty good amateur doctor but this diagnosis has me stumped. First let me say I am 41, 6' 190 and run/swim/cross train 6 days a week including 2-3 half-marathons a year. I'm a step ahead of weekend warriors and a 2-steps behind real athletes. I have NOT had previous knee pain or any acute knee injuries (twists, ligament or tendon issues, etc..). My knee feels "solid" when I exercise, not like it is going to "give" in. I am able to walk and exercise on my knee normally with little to no pain although in the last week or so I have had some noticeable mild pressure and low pain when I am sitting but in general the pain is low (2 on a 1-10 scale). The big issue I have is when I have my knee in any position for any amount of time (other than a 45 degree angle like sitting at a desk) when I go to move my knee it is frozen in place. Not locked. Frozen. With great effort due to the excruciating pain I can move my leg. Once I "warm" it up it is fine, except as described above. During this time the pain is a 8. For some time now I have had to "pop" my knee by applying slight pressure sideways to it to make it feel better. I also notice some grinding when I climb stairs. Climbing stairs = a pain level of 3-4. I assumed I had tendinitis for quite a while but having read a little I think I have something different. Any thoughts on possible diagnoses to research would be helpful. Thanks!
Knee injury HELP! Diagnosis and treatment.? Ok so on sunday i was playing football i jumped and kicked the ball and landed and as i did so landed awkwardly and heard a tear/pop in my knee. I fell to the floor got up and hobbled off. This was sunday morning. As the day wore on i could walk with just a slight limp but not really run. Fine i thought probably just a twist or a sprain. Although when i woke on Monday morning it was really stiff and swollen around the top and the inside of my right knee join i have had it in a knee brace and that stops the pain. Now on Tuesday it is still swollen as much altho i have been using RICE. I can walk with a little limp but do sometimes feel twinges in my knee, the back the outside and inside. I cannot bend it as the swelling is still there. I am scared i have done something similar to when i tore my ACL 2 years ago and had my leg in plaster for 8 weeks. This is not feasable nowadays as i have too much going on. I have a quality knee brace which i have been using cost me 70-80 quid. So i have been using that. If i just rest it until it gets better will this be just as good? I am in no serious pain so i dont think its that bad i just want some help thanks. What should i do to help it heal and do you think you know what it is? Because if i do and they put me in a cast it will basically ruin my life and cost me so much money its unbelievable i cant do that.
possible diagnosis? i have the following symptoms but i dont know if they are related and what the problem is. i have the following symptoms: - Amenorrhea (missed period) - multiple negative at home pregnancy tests - no other symptoms of pregnancy (also have only had intercourse once since last period and a condom was used) - lower right back pain that radiates down my thigh to just below my knee other information...i am a 21 year old, white female, college student. stopped taking hormonal birth control 2-3months ago. i have been healthy, with the exception of about a month ago when i had a cold that presented with an painful, enlarged lymph node on the right of my neck that has since resolved itself. my family medical history is significant for weight related diabetes. i am not taking any drugs.
Knee injury - what's the issue? My wife has injured her knee. The pain started at the front, outside of her knee with a sharp pain (on her left leg). However, the pain has now migrated to the back of the knee and the pain has gone from being sharp to being a dull pain. To complicate matters, she is pregnant and cannot have an MRI or X-ray. My question what are the possibilities here? What is the most likely diagnosis? Thanks to everyone so far with the answers they've provided. My wife is only at about 8 weeks - so I don't think an MRI or X-Ray is advisable. We thought it was a torn meniscus but the symptoms don't seem to line up with her pain.
3 year old with frequent leg pain at night? My daughter is 3 1/2 and has had "growing pains" since May 2007. SHe started waking up at night with leg pain in May while we were at the beach. THe pain intensity and frequency increased throughout the summer and after I started journaling it I could see a trend with increased activity during the day. My daughter is a little knock kneed and the pain was most common during our beach vacations. I have met with a reumatologist and an orthopedic pediatrician. THe diagnosis seems to be growing pains secondary to hypermobility of her joints. My question is she wakes up average 3 to 4 times a week with these pains. The pain switches from side to side and at times is bilateral and seems to be her thighs right above her knee most. Does anyone else have a child that had growing pains at this frequency?? She is active and her night pain does not affect her daily activites. Thanks in advance.
Need a diagnosis!? Ok I am 23 years old.......I have severe knee pain. It hurts if I stand or sit too long. My hips also hurt if I stand or walk too long. I have a very weak grip in my hands. It hurts to do daily activities such as comb my hair of use a can opener. I can not type or write for very long before my wrist and fingers start to hurt. All of the above problems started about 3 years ago and have gotten worse mostly while I was pregnant and lasted in the here after. The latest onset has been my shoulders. Please if there is anyone who has had these problems even some I really would like the help. I have started to have terrible dreams about dieing. It has gotten to the point where taking care of my children is a task......doing the simple things is hard and painful. PLEASE HELP!!! I went to see a doctor and was tested for RA and Lupus and he said both test were negative......Thank God. I am not searching for something......I just really would like to know what is wrong with me so that I can get help and live my life......PAIN FREE
what can cause pain in lower limbs (calves) in children? my cousin(10 yrs) has been suffering from acute pain in his calves for more than a month.we've seen a number of doctors including a neurologist.there has been no pinpoint diagnosis.he had had a fall injuring his knees a little bit after that his legs have been paining in irregular bouts.what symptoms are these?whom should we consult?
what are the causes of progressive joint pain? For the past 5-6 weeks my joints have been very achey (fingers/hands, wrists, shoulders, upper vertebrae, tailbone area, knees, & ankles). Pretty much, everything hurts and I am feeling kind of fatigued, but have also been working a lot. IThe pain is not such excrutiating pain (probably about a 5-6 on a scale of 1-10 depending upon the day), but more off a dull pain or extreme discomfort. I often feel stiff, expecially after waking up or sitting for extended periods and having trouble getting comfortable. After sitting for extended periods it is hard for me to straighten my body right away. It seems to vary in intensity, but a lot of times my hands hurt most. I am a 26 year old slightly overweight (about 15-20 lbs) female who has never had any severe medical problems. Do you think that this is something that I should go to the doctor for, or are there any otc remedies that you know of? Have you ever experienced anything of the sort. Is there a "diagnosis?"
Could all these symptoms be related to one diagnosis? I have several symptoms and have been diagnosed with several different things but I feel they might all be related. Symptoms: -nerve pain in several regions of body -leg numbness -back pain -sour stomach -belching -headaches -sensitivity to light and sound -earaches -nausea -pressure in occipital region of head -confusion/forgetfulness I have been diagnosed with the following: -pinched femoral nerve -degenerative joint disease (lumbar) -acid reflux -allergies While these may very well be the correct diagnoses, I really do not feel like they are. I have been taking allergy meds every day but the pressure and headaches get worse. 2 months of Nexium did not help the acid reflux. Nerve damage in leg is spreading past the femoral nerve region to the upper thigh, along with many areas of pin-point nerve pain (cheek, left side of back, above knees, arm). Please help if you have any idea what could be going on!!
Can over pronation lead to over supination as my PT seem to be confussed as to an overall diagnosis.? I spained my right ankle several time but seven years ago I had a nasty spain and have been unable to run since without severe pain. Over the last two year my foot got worst finally I was sent to physio therapy but they ran a rotation system so I saw three PTs each giving me a list of things wrong with my foot. I also sprained the other ankle and chipped a bone but they never bothered with that foot. I had many different exercises to do including running but I have achilles tendonitis in both feet!. I was also told my hip and knee was misaligned, I was not walking correctly, had scar tissue, planar fascitis, and a bunion. Since physio I now have pains in calf, hip, both knees, and lower back. I still havn't had a diagnosis.. I've been seeing the same consultant, but I'm lucky to get three minutes every 10 months. I now find I'm in the sad position of having to self-diagnosis. Can over pronation lead to supination or can you have both? This information will help me greatly.
hip, knee, and ankle pain linked? I run track... two weeks ago my knees have started hurting, esp. when doing wieght squats and lunges in weight room ... then a couple of days ago my hips have begun hurting and i cannot extend my leg out while standing ... i went for a run now and ankcles are swollen.... Do you have diagnosis or suggestion... or any good streches, suport braces i could use?
What is causing my knee pain and the cracking noises my knees are making? A few months ago my right knee started to make a little noise when walking up/down stairs or when extended while sitting. It was making a crinkling noise, but there was no real pain. Until now. Now walking up or down stairs causes mild pain. I feel a dull pain in it occasionally and the pain is growing in intensity. It still makes the crinkling noises. I exercise regularly, but since the knee pain started I have been avoiding anything that puts a strain on my knees (like squats or running). I am 31 years old and I have never had any significant injury to my right knee. Also, my left knee has started to make the same sort of crinkling noises, but no pain in my left knee yet. I have a doctor's appointment Friday, but I would like an idea of what I may be facing. I do not have medical insurance, so I am worried at what kind of diagnosis and treatment I'm looking at. Thanks in advance.
what is your opinion/diagnosis on what happened to my knee? I will try and make this as detailed as possible!! About three weeks ago, I was at gymnastics practice tumbling on the tumble trak. (a tumble trak is a long trampoline that is less bouncy.) On this equipment I was working on fulls and arabians where you twist in the air. After I got done with the tumble trak, I went to stretch out on floor and found myself limping and in a lot of knee pain. I realized, that there was not a single moment on the tumble trak where I had shooting pain. It was AFTER i was done tumbling. The next morning, I woke up and my knee was in a ton of pain once again. The pain was on the back left side and a little on the top left side for the most part. It was pretty swollen and could not straighten nearly all the way. It was very painful to walk on and I limped for the rest of the next two days because it still would not straighten completely. By the end of the week, the swelling and pain had reduced. I went back to tumbling and the pain was not too bad during tumbling, but definitely hurt after practice. I could describe the pain as though when your elbow locks up and you have to straighten it super fast and pop it if you know what I mean. Also, when I would stretch, it felt like I was very very sore in my knee up through my hamstring. It has been three weeks since and I have not gone back to tumbling as advised by my trainer. My knee still is slightly swollen and when i stand up straight with my knees next to each other, i can see that my left knee still is not completely straightened out. when I straighen my knee as far as i can, there is pain on the back left side still as well as along the top of my knee cap. I would still describe that pain as "the need to pop your elbow" sort of pain. I do not have very much pain at all however when I am not participating in physical activity or just sitting around. It is after physical activity that the pain comes back. (i have not gone to practice in a few days) Last week, I didn't go to practice for two days and felt like the pain was gone (unless i attempted to straighten my knee) Then, I went back to practice and the pain came back again. I saw a trainer who told me this is a possible meniscus tear. what is your opinion? Thanks so much for the help!
I Need of Knee Injury Diagnosis? A few hours ago, I was struck on the inside of my left knee during a contact sports game by the knee of another player who was running full speed toward me. I did not hear any distinctive popping noises but went down to the ground immediately and was not able to bend/move my leg because of intense pain. Within fifteen minutes, the pain had begun to decrease it and within 20-25 minutes I was able to lightly walk on it. I am trying not to put too much pressure on the left leg because of pain that occurs to the right (inside) of my kneecap. I can extend and bend the leg, but I cannot straighten/bend the knee all the way because of a feeling of "pressure" when it approaches either extreme. Just sitting in a chair with my leg slightly bent and resting on the ground, I can feel a slight sort of pressure and some pain/discomfort on the inside side of the knee. If I press about an inch to the right (inside) of the middle of my kneecap I can feel a soreness/pain. There is no swelling/bruising as of yet, but I have been icing it. Can anyone give me a likely diagnosis for this injury? Best answer will be chosen, most likely one that explains why you make such a diagnosis. Thanks for the help.
Left knee popped.. diagnosis? I was playing basketball last night, I drove to the basket, and did a quick jumper. All of a sudden I felt a pop inside my knee. I went down immediately, I was able to walk about 3 or so minutes after the pain went away. I was able to walk, however, pain existed over the MCL area, as well as the back of knee. There was minimal swelling last night, I had more range of motion, but today I can barely move it. I know that is the bodies way of protecting the injury. It's not too swollen, just enough to cause pain when I try to fully extend it, or bend it. I can put weight on it still, but it seems like it is still weak. The question is, any doctors or sports specialists have any idea what this could be? I researched and think it may be a grade 1 or 2 MCL sprain. Since it is the holidays, don't feel like bugging the sports injury specialist. The pain is most on the inside of knee, and when I bend or try to extend the knee, hurts inside the knee when I try to over extend, which I read that could be PCL injury. Any ideas?
What is wrong with my knee? Stiffness/popping/some pain.? For a week, I have been experiencing significant stiffness in my knee. I don't believe an injury precipitated this. My knee is also popping much more than usual. There is some pain, particularly after exercise or when bending all the way. The stiffness is also more apparent when I bend my knee all the way, and there sometimes feels like something is pulling at the top of my knee, just under the quadriceps muscle. The symptoms seem to be worse after exercising or standing for long periods. Other info: I have had joint trouble for several years now, but no diagnosis has been given. I am overweight, but I have been losing weight recently. I work out several times a week (between 4-6 times). I am a 26 year old female. Thanks!!
What could this knee pain be, and what should I do about it? A year or so ago, I began having some pain in my left knee, that I believe to be from overuse. It will occasionally become painful, and usually just be a dull throbbing I can ignore. A couple of days ago I was hit by a car at VERY low speed. I was facing the car and the impact hit my left leg right below the knee. Since then, the pain has been almost continuous, getting into excruciating pain if I leave my leg in one position for any length of time and then try to move it. Does anyone have any idea what a medical diagnosis might be, or what to do about it? The pain is mostly right above the kneecap in the front of my left knee, and there does not appear to be any bruising or swelling, just a lot of pain.
Treatment for flat feet causing long term knee pain? I've had knee pain for 4 years and about 7 months after it started I saw a consultant who moved my leg around a bit and said I had chondromalacia, just told me to rest and that was it. It didn't get better so last year I went to my doctor about it and they referred me for physiotherapy, again my leg was moved around a bit and my knee cap was taped, which did relieve the pain for the first day or two. I then discharged myself from this because I was offered physiotherapy at a musculoskeletal centre. I went for a consultation in December and it was quite thorough, I said about my previous diagnosis of chondromalacia but she said it would not be that now as I am 20. After this meeting I received a letter which said I had anterior knee pain, medial knee pain, maltracking of patella on both knees, patella irritation of the patella femoral joint, pronated feet, valgus calcaneal tendon and lumbosacral pain. I've had 2 physio sessions since then, during these I have been given 3 different types of exercises to strengthen the muscles in my thigh. When I went back for the second appointment in January the physio said there was no improvement and to continue with them for another month. I have my third appointment next week and there is still no improvement. I don't see how strengthening my thigh muscles is going to treat the other issues of valgus calcaneal tendon and pronated feet, and I also think the exercises I have been given are going to take a long time to see if they work. Is there anything I can do in the short term? I have read that the knee pain can be caused by the problems I have with my feet, so even if I get better control over my leg muscles I'm still going to have the issues of feet and ankles that are sending my kneecap off track. It's been going on for too long and I guess I do want a quick fix, but as there has been no injury to my knees and I do have these underlying issues with my feet surely I should be given treatment for this and not just exercises?
I have physical leg pain that needs diagnosis.? I received a knee to my leg while playing lacrosse. I was diagnosed with a quad contusion. I have no bruising but it pains me to bend my leg. After sleeping/sitting for an extended period of time or running I have a sharp shooting pain down my leg that does not go away quickly. Can anyone help me?
Knee Pain ...expert opinion needed plz! 10 pts.? So I have this knee pain that started a few months ago, without any specific injury to the knee. The pain just built up gradually over a couple of hours of playing soccer, and then went away. I did not pay much attention to it at first, because usually stuff like that goes way, but I did go see a doctor. First, here are my symptoms: -Pain relatively localized, on the inside, front part of the knee, right at the joint line. -Although pain gradually builds up with running/soccer, it is sometimes short, and sharp, and occurs when I am just walking, pain free. Usually when I do a turning motion. -Sometimes, after walking all day (or biking for some time), there is some pain when the knee is completely straightened - this does not last long. -Very rarely, I cannot straighten the leg completely, but that goes away very fast. -With just walking, there are almost no pain, only starts after exercise. -If there is pain, when I am turning, or completely straightening the knee, it goes away very fast. (If I then bend the leg, and straighten again, the pain if gone) I am really leaning towards meniscus tear, but my doctor wanted to check if it's some sort of inflammation first, so I got a cortisone injection. It has since been 2 weeks, and I have been resting (just walking), and the pain is still present - does that rule out any inflammatory disorder? I got an MRI - which did not show anything, does that completely rule out meniscus tear? X-ray came back clean too - not a stress fracture as originally thought. I really need to know what's the cause of this pain. Has anyone had similar symptoms? What was the diagnosis/treatment? Can anyone make a good guess based on these symptoms?
Joint pain diagnosis? Hi, I am a 16 year old female. I am active in dance and have been for the past 9 years. After this past season I experienced back pain the week after it ended, which is normal. The problem is that now it has been about a month since the season ended. The back pain has continued. Towards the end of the season I was experiencing shoulder pain in both of my shoulders and periodic, but minimal pain in my ankle and knee. I hurt my knee and ankle in the past though, so this pain usually occurs as well. Now a month later, I still have back pain that is constant throughout the day. My shoulders hurt and withing the past two weeks I've started having neck pain (Stiffness,etc.). I also have elbow pain periodically as well as my wrist. I don't know if this is just caused by overuse (Due to my 6 month season) or if it may be symptoms of a disease (arthritis, etc.). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Can anyone help me diagnose my knee pain? On my left knee I have occasional pain caused by closing my leg and puttingany slight amount of pressure on it. If I have been sitting cross-legged for any amount of time it will ache upon extending my leg. The pain seems to come from my interior meniscus. I thought it might be torn, but it shows none of the other signs of tearing. No popping, clicking, swelling, redness, etc. It is not even sore to touch/poking/prodding unless one of the aforementioned conditions are met. Can anyone help me with a diagnosis/treatment?
Back of knee pain - what is causing it? The back of my knee seems to hurt once in a while. It only hurts while I start walking SOMETIMES, and may continue to hurt afterwards. The pain is hard to describe. I am 14 years old. What could a possible diagnosis be? also sometimes some pain in the thigh along with that.
What could I have done to my knee while kneeling to be in this kind of pain? Last summer, I tore my right MCL on the first day of college. I coughed up the cash to get a diagnosis, but didn't have the money or insurance for surgery. The ingury never really hurt; I just heard some popping noises, went to the ground out of instinct thinking something was wrong, and from there on out my knee was quite unstable, and still is today, often giving out on me making me clutch something to stay standing. Well, I went to Uganda this past semester and while there,my knee was great minus one accident. I had to go over an elevated (5' or so) set of train tracks to get to town, and one side of the tracks is VERY steep (40 degrees or so). Long story short, my knee gave out on me once while heading down and in the process, apparently hit my knee on something, probably the ground, as I fell. THIS injury hurt, and I was bedridden for 2 weeks or so, but I eventually got over it as far as I knew. Well, today I was in class and the woman sitting next to me spilled my drink. So, I get on my knees to clean it up (no hard impact or anything) and as I go to stand up, I realize my knee is in excruciating pain, the same pain that I felt when I landed on it in Uganda, except 3x worse. Bending it back isn't so bad, but I cannot extend it fully. 12 hours later, it's still killing me, Since I'm obviously not going to the doctor to shell out $150 only to find out that I need surgery I'll never get, the best I figure I can do is get some advice on what kind of injury I might have so that I have an idea of the healing time. Any idea what the heck I did while simply kneeling to wipe up the floor?? *Unlike MCL tear, pain gets worse after I use knee *Pain is 7/10. Since being home and resting, a few times it's been so bad that it brought me tears. *While moving, pain stems from what feels like tissues below patella. While relaxed, it's centralized on the lower left side of my knee (right knee, btw) *I feel confident that it doesn't relate to the patella itself. I can move that around with my hand a bit and don't feel any sudden pain.
Knee pain diagnosis help? Okay so for a couple months now I have had severe knee pain. The pain is located at the top of my knee cap and the pain gets increasingly worse as I try to straighten my leg. I can not straighten my leg against the force of gravity while laying down. Any ideas what my problem is?
Sporadic knee pain? Help.? At least twice a year I have severe knee pain. Sometimes it isn't so bad and it will go away within a couple of days. Other times it lasts at least a week and it hurts whenever I jump, run, etc. As background, I have played volleyball for four years year round. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I'm hoping not. Now on my left knee I landed on it when I was on the bus, and then several other incidents with me dropping something on it has caused the pain. On my right knee, it will hurt without me having to even touch it. Any diagnosis? I have researched on knee pain and nothing seems to fit my case. The doctor said to do stretches and gain strength in my hips, as well as ice the knee that hurts. I've been doing that whenever they begin to hurt, and it doesn't seem to work.
Left Knee Pain for 10 months? I was training for a marathon about a year ago and was doing great. I made it through my 22 run with no problems. On an easy 6 mile run, my left knee started to hurt. The pain was sharp and stabbing and I was unable to finish the run. The pain was (and still is) in the lower/lateral side of my left knee. I am fine during normal activity, but if I try to step it up to running, elliptical machine or anything that requires "pushing off" on the leg the pain returns. I have been to three different ortho/sports medicine doctors over the year and have received two different diagnosis: IT band syndrome and Arthritis in my knee (although I have not had a MRI and my xray looked fine). I have had 3 cortisone injections, received syn-visc injections, completed PT, got orthotics, visited a chiropractor, done massage, had active release, etc... After all of that, the pain is still there. My current doc (who is a sports doc) tells me that I need to have patience, but after year my patience is waning. Any ideas? Could this be a torn meniscus or something like that? Should I push for an MRI? I'm starting to be very frustrated and am not sure what I should do...please help :)!
knee pain for a month!? ive had bad knee pain for a month after camp because i guess i landed wrong when i jumped off a little ledge thingy but it would always go away with ibprofen. so as of now its been about a month since i ot back from camp and my knee has been hurting ever since. the first week i got home i could barely get out of the car let alone get up the steps to my room ( because both knees were hurting then) so 3 weeks into the pain abt a week after both of my knees hurt i was playing neighbor hood tag with my friends ( like hide and seek tag except you cant be seen by your neighbors and you sneak through peoples yards to get to base at night like 11:00) my friend and i were sneaking up behind the guy chasing us to get to base he turned around really fast and my friend didnt know i was so close to her and we both fell but i fell sideways on my knee and my foot was trapped under her and i think my knee twisted. i dont think i felt the pain too soon after i fell but i remember feeling it later that night and it hurt really badly!!!!! it still hurts now and that was about a week ago, it hurts on the left side of my right leg ( if im looking down at it) towards the bottom corner, and whenever i move my kneee i hear it grind, and whenever i walk my knee subluxates which is one of those feelings that annoy you like the nails on the chalkboard kinda. i havent been to the doctor yet because my parents think im a wimp and overreacting but it really hurts!!!!!! i have to go to softball practice and whenever i go it hurts like crazy afterwards and mildly during softball practice. please et me have your opinion, i am not relying on y answeres to give me a diagnosis just some advice! oh! and my fried kicked me on the side of my knee 2 days ago
Knee pain! Help with prevention and diagnosis? Whenever I run excessively I always get pain in my knee right below the knee caps, and i end up running on my toes because it hurts much less when i do this. I play volleyball, and when we run before we practice I ended up practcing horribly because my knee hurts! And i am not old, so its not like my knees are withering away... please help!
Cause of my knee pain? Will delayed diagnosis cause permanent damage? My right knee has been popping for as many years as I can remember, but I have never had any pain until these past four days or so. It started as a stinging feeling in my right kneecap whenever I bent the joint upward (e.g. lifting my knee to my chest) and/or when I completely straightened my leg out and tensed/flexed it a bit. Now it's happening regardless of what I do, but the pain comes and goes. The majority of my pain is on the inner part of my kneecap... it's a stinging pain that almost tickles as well. It's hard to explain, but it's definitely uncomfortable. Every time I bend my kneecap and then straighten it out it pops (but as I said before, it has been doing this for years even prior to the pain). Sometimes the pain radiates down my leg and into my ankle. Any idea what it could be? I don't recall doing anything specific that would have injured it. There was no "pop" noise and no visible swelling. It has been about four days now. I'm using ice and trying to rest as much as possible, but I still have to go to work/etc. Is there any chance it will just get better on its own? Am I risking any sort of permanent damage by putting off going to the doctor for another week (that's the only chance I have). I'm a 25-year-old male by the way. Thank you.
Knee pain. Help! I'm pretty sure there'll be a question mark after this, but ignore it -? Every time I try and push a little harder during my workouts my knees give me shit. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if I wasn't young and didn't like being active, but I just hit 20 and I really like getting physical. I'm not really looking for a diagnosis (I should probably see a doctor for that), but I would like some advice on how to temper the pain and push myself without making it worse. Just so we're clear, when I say push harder, I don't mean anything insane. My baseline for years has been four days of lifting a week, and six days of not-that-intense cardio. Lifting has never given me issues, but whenever I crank up the cardio, my knees give out.
Differential diagnosis for knee pain/mass in the knee? Detailed description is included below.? - Female, about 20 years old, slightly overweight, otherwise healthy - Pain has lasted about 5-6 weeks. - Pain is worst when sitting and going up/down stairs. - Pain makes sleeping difficult and causes waking during the night. - A mass formed over the period of about an hour, pain soon followed. - Mass has slowly increased in size since it originally formed. - No current trauma to or overuse of the knee. - Undiagnosed trauma to the same area of the knee about 4 years ago - no symptoms since. - Mass is on the anterior/proximal/medial surface of the left knee. - Swelling is present around the mass - slightly above the mass, to either side, and above the patella. - No heat or redness above the mass. - Mass is most prominent when knee is bent. - Pain is in a circle around but not including the patella, and is worst at the site of the mass and diagonal from the mass (anterior/lateral/distal surface). - Pain is stabbing at the site of the mass, with lots of pressure through the entire knee. - Mass is about 4cm x 8cm. - Mass is rubbery and hard - not fluid. - Mass can be moved about 1-2cm in each direction. - Xrays showed no abnormal findings. (Arthritis was considered/ruled out; history of mild osteoarthritis in the hips due to bilateral congenital hip dysplasia - corrected by a brace worn until age 2). - Physical therapy has had no effect, pain level and mass size have both slightly increased - NSAIDs have not effected swelling or pain. - Without weight, range of motion is mostly normal. - Inability to squat. - No unusual anterior/posterior drawer signs.
Please help with Knee Pain Diagnosis? Hi, A few weeks ago I started feeling this intense pain in my right knee that has just grown increasingly worse. Yes, I know I should see a doctor and I will, but for now I just want some opinions. I need to get this fixed especially because it is my right knee and that's crucial for driving. The pain only seems to occur when I am sitting, and I can only describe it as I feel that I need to crack my knee to fully extend it, but when I try to crack it, the pain is so intense that I either give up or crack it and feel awful. It is even painful when I cross my left leg over my right knee. The strange thing is that I am completely pain free when walking. The only problem seems to be walking up stairs (and sometimes down). A little background- I am a 23 year old female. I just started a new office job a few months ago where I am sitting for 7+ hrs a day. Please help! Thank you :)
how long before my bad knee sprain heals? i sprained my left knee playing basketball. its been 17 days since my injury and i still cannot fully extend and lock out my knee because of the pain in the inside of my knee joint, center/medial aspect of it. i feel a pressure and pain there when i try. i hurt it by planting my left foot with a slight bend in the knee and with all my weight bearing on that leg and also tried to slightly change direction to the right all in the same movement. i was not warmed up properly too. i felt a very painful and sharp pain right away and collapsed in pain. immediately, i could not extend it and i was in a lot of pain and it was a bit shaky and i could not bare weight on it. now i can walk but with a slight bend in the knee. it hurts if i try to plant my foot out in front of me with weight bearing on it. it also hurts to to twist it with weight bearing on it. i cannot still lock it out because of the pain and it is still slightly swollen and a bit stiff. the swelling was never major but it was and still is there. i have improved the ROM when i flex it because its less stiff and less painful to do this, but the extension has not improved because of the pain in the inside of it. if i keep my knee slightly bent while walking, there is no significant discomfort, but if i try to lock it out and bare some weight on it then it hurts. also hurts to extend and try to lock it out even with no weight bearing. so i cannot play sports right now. im worried that its a meniscus tear or badly bruised meniscus or a microfracture of a bone or something along those lines and possibly a stretched MCL or ACL too, i dont think i tore any ligament. I had my MRI yesterday and am gettin the report next week. im just worried if this can heal on its own if its just a really bad sprain (ligament stretch and/or bone or meniscus bruise) and how much longer cuz it's stil painful and its been over 2 1/2 weeks and i dont see it gettin better for another month or more probably. if i need surgery like anthroscopic then it's going to suck but im resigned to the idea and prepared to have it. btw, im not confident in my dr. cuz she is a family practician but hopefully i can get her to refer me to a specialist. its hard because in on medicaid (public medical insurance for low income). the MRI is being done and assesed by an independent place that does all kinds of scans and they told me a muscle skeletal dr. will asses my MRI. i wish it was a arthopeadic specialist. the place seems big and competent, called Radiology Limited, but it would be better to consult with a knee specialist too...i hope whatever happens i can consult with one and be treated by one and have whatever i need done there, whether i will just need physical therapy or possibly surgery. what could be the cause of my knee pain/ diagnosis? How long should i expect it to be before i can regain full leg extension and be able to lock out my knee without pain? If it's just a really bad sprain (like a bad meniscus bruise, bone bruise, and/or ligament stretch) that can heal on its own with PT possibly but without surgery, how long before it heals enough so i can return to playing sports and be able to pivot on it with weight and be able to regain enough explosion movement on it for sprinting and twisting and jumping on it...at least to be able to play at a 80% level? P.S. im male, 25 and this is my first knee injury ever. oh and btw, i just tweaked my right knee twice, once this morning and once just 10 min ago by coming into the car to sit down. its nothing but it worries me that this will be the start of knee problems now.
Knee pain, swelling, etc. Diagnosis? I have had a knee injury for nearly two years now. I did a bad leap at dance and since then, there aren't enough words to describe the different problems I have had.. And every time I get into a doctors office, I don't ever know which symptoms are rel event. So Here is my last chance at trying to at least figure out what is wrong with my knee. My symptoms include: ~Pain (stabbing, sharp, and aching) ~Swelling (When I wake up in the morning my knee is roughly 13" around. By the time I get home from work { I am a gymnastics, cheer and dance coach } it is anywhere from 14" to 18" around.. This usually goes back down by the next morning after a night of ice and anti-imflamatories) ~Giving Way (I have yet to figure out what triggers my knee to give way, it has happened from my running down stairs to walking around a corner.. Sometimes it is only partial sometimes it completely goes and I fall. I wish I had more to say on that one...) ~A feeling of my knee cap being in the wrong "spot" or "track" (I have a constant feeling of needing to "pop" my knee. Like it is in the wrong position causing it to simply "feel funny". Not really a painful position, just uncomfortable. The only way I can get it to "pop" is to physically push my knee cap around until it pops, or twist my to the medial side, or even just try and lock my knee and hope that does the trick. If anyone has any idea what could cause all of these symptoms I am all ears! Thanks so much for your help in advance and if you ask me a question back look for my response in the "additional details" section of the original question. I have tried Physical Therapy Narcotics Anti-Inflamatories Ice Heat Elevation Rest MRI X-Ray Compression And just plain trying to suck it up. Different surgeons have suggested: ACL Tear PTFS Meniscus Tear Jumpers Knee The MRI has a lot of "grey" areas that are hard to read causing lots of different opinions as to where to go from here. But all of the suggestions I have received from doctors don't explain everything. Only bits and pieces of what is wrong.. Anything is helpful, thanks guys! I take Tramadol, APAP Codine, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen Some more than others.. I don't really want to simply cover up the pain, I want it fixed. I am only 16 and am not ready to give up my golf scholarships I have been promised...

I think this needs a medical diagnosis - Problem sleeping, eye twitch, knee pain, low/no sexual desire Male 25? I'm looking for someone who may be able to help my fiancé. He is a 25 yr old Male, Caucasian, tall, Athletic type build We moved in together 4 years and 3 months ago. We had a very intense sexual relationship. We also had a very intense personal connection (having been friends for 6+ years prior) and we started talking about serious issues like his fathers death (where he cried), getting married and him adopting my then 18 month old son. After about 4 months, he hurt his knee during sex one day, or at least thats the way it looked. He could have hurt it before hand and not noticed until then. Regardless he was unable to work or have sex. He started having sleep issues, insomnia and broken sleep. In that time we had other issues and "fell apart". We attributed it mostly to his stress about not being able to work. We continued to live together and stayed close friends. Most people couldn't distinguish us from a couple. He had his knee looked at. He had scans and went to a physical therapist. They said other then what was most likely a slight tear in his cartilage (I think, it was the soft disk in his knee) there wasn't anything wrong with it and it would heal quickly and he would be right back to work. It did heal. Not very quickly, but it did and he went back to working as soon as he could. I never thought it was ever 100%. He wanted to go back to work. He continued having at least some sleep issues. The sexual desire however didn't come back. Even when we were back together on and off for the next 3 years it was never the same. It was always very loving and well connected. But it was never really sexual. I just figured it was an emotional issue. At one point I thought he might be gay. (Or it was me? I don't know) I know he told me stories about losing interested in the only other girl he ever dated, but he didn't really like her (sounds horrible I know but she was a long distance fling if you will) He was enlisted for four years over seas and went almost the whole 4 years without sex, and he was perfectly fine with that. At 25 hes had 2 relationships and only 1 serious. In 4 years he never masturbated or watched porn. He insisted he was not molested and he wasn't gay. He just wasn't interested. (And there was no problem getting it up. He was at attention more then you could imagine.. he just never wanted to use it. And when he did it was quick, no foreplay and that was it. Never twice in a row. And he was usually super sensitive. I always got mine, and told him how great the sex was. He was happy, but never overly thrilled about having sex) Over those three years the knee pain would come and go regularly. It seemed like the more he exercised (we were 6 day a week gym people at one point) the better it felt BUT work would irritate it. Sometimes we thought it was the twisting and turning, other times rain related, other times stress. If he spent too much time on the couch or at the computer it would "act up". He would often describe it as different pains, sometimes shooting (usually at work) sometimes a dull ache that wouldn't go away; mostly joint, but sometimes muscle. For a while both knees hurt (We thought from him compensating for the bad knee) Heat seems to help a little. I didn't think they were connected until about a year ago. He moved far away and I was following him after a few months. He worked 70+ hrs/wk. No Knee pain. It rained, No Knee Pain. He started masturbating several times a day. Watching all kinds of porn, and tried hooking up on a website (But didn't) I went to visit him. We had sex, several times in a row even. Yet it was also a very stressful time because I found out what he did on-line. We had a big fight and he started crying (the first time since we first moved in together) He told me how much he loved me and moved up our moving date from two months, to two weeks. I moved out there and everything was fine. The sex went away after a while, and even though he was still watching porn and masturbating, it was only occasionally. We discussed everything that happened, and he had no idea how or why. Even he was confused. He swears he was "like another person". Not just sexually, but at work and in general. We eventually split up and I saw someone else, but he didn't. He had opportunities but he didn't, and he stopped masturbating and watching porn again. After a long talk we got back together (we just work). I got pregnant. Our relationship is incredible. Yet we have sex rarely. He says he doesn't care if we ever do it, for the rest of our lives, because he's just happy with how things are. No porn, no masturbating in 4+ months. Though in 4 months, the knee pains back, he has broken sleep, and now his eye is twitching. We thought eating or stress, but no clear links. I think it may be hormonal. Or a nutritional imbalance, (we are 1 meal a day people). I've he
lateral knee pain but not when walking. only when sitting or not moving it. what could it be? i am a 24 year old female- i had arthroscopic knee surgery when i was 17. it was related to maltracking of the knee, chondromalacia and meniscus damage. i now have stiffness in the morning, when i bend my knee back it feels like the lateral part of my knee is stretching far or tight, i have aching pain just above my knee cap slightly to the lateral top of my knee. when i push on that part of my knee it hurts. it does not hurt much when i am walking. sometimes it hurts under my kneecap and sometimes behind or inside my knee but not often. it aches when i walk downstairs (shakes a little) and when i squat down it hurts to get put pressure on it when i get up. i have very strong OUTSIDE or lateral quad muscles, inside muscles-not so much. it usually hurts more when i am not moving it, for example sitting or keeping it in one place for too long. i went to the doctor and she did that movement test to see if it was ligament damage- she thinks it may be pcl/acl because it felt a "little" loose, with some meniscus damage. i am not a doctor (not nearly close!) but i beg to differ with her, hence my asking via online. do you think this would just be because of the chondromalacia or patellar tracking? possible itb band problem? i am not asking for a diagnosis- just curious to know what another person would think with these symptoms. and again, it does not hurt all the time. thanks so much!
What's wrong with my knee????? Possible Diagnosis PLEASE!!!? I've had bad knee pains for over a year now, coming from inside the joint, but MRI scans and X-rays have come to show that my knee is apparently completely normal (well except the pain obviously). I've really had enough of the pain as it really limits the amount of sport i can do! I also have a problem with both of my knees, where a ligament on the inner side of my leg which joints the knee cap to the rest of the joint capsule is larger than normal, but it is weak which causes my knee to feel "floaty" and if i am walking at the time i tend to collapse. I am about to start physiotherapy for this problem, and my consultant says it is not the source of my pain. What are the possible problems it could be?
Medial Knee Pain? No improvement so far with treatment? I have had medial knee pain and the feeling that my knee is just "not right" for about a week and a half. I went to my doctor on Wednesday and he was a little perplexed but he thinks it is either runner's or jumper's knee and put me in a knee brace. I am just curious as to why I have medial knee pain when both of those conditions have to do with the knee cap and the tendons around it. My pain is on the inside of my right knee, it is tender to the touch around that side of the joint, and stairs are no fun at all. The pain is mostly when I am moving the joint and it varies from a tight feeling to a sharp jab when I move certain ways; especially when I am moving my leg from side to side. Do these symptoms comply with the diagnosis I received? Plus even wearing the brace, although it does give me some relief, seems to be making anything better. Thanks in advance!
what is the pain under my knee? patellofemoral pain syndrome? please help!? I have been having bad pain under my left knee for a while now. It hurts with simple things like walking but does get much worse with more intense activities (I dance). It has been close to a month now and the pain isn't getting any better. I took an online diagnosis test and the number one thing it came up with was patellofemoral pain syndrome, could this be right? The main things that make it hurt are jumping, landing, squatting, and bending my knee past a certain point. Please help! Thanks!
Knee pain but not sure on diagnosis? I am 15 years old and i play tennis alot. I the last 2 years i have had reacurring knee pain below my knee cap, i went to a physiotherapist and told her my symtoms and she told me i had patella tendonitis but since then the pain has spread to the side of my knee as well. Is it still patella toendonitis or should i go back to the physio?? Please help!!
Possible Knee pain due to large quads? Please help!!? Okay so I've suffered knee pain for about 4/5weeks now, i play a lot of rugby and go to the gym a lot so i thought it could just be from over-training or a slight niggle. I cannot remember taking a knock but I am always getting knocks here and there. I'm just going to be straight up here, i'm 19 and my quads are by far the most muscular part of my body, they are quite big. The doctor said that because I am still fairly young my bones are still soft and because of the size of the muscle, it's pulling back on my knee cap. The pain is in the top of the knee mainly and slightly across(horizontal) the middle. I know it could be argued who am i really to question a doctors diagnosis when I'm not a qualified doctor etc. But i don't know I think it's more, can anyone help me to whether you think this could actually be the case? Many thanks

serious recurring knee pain but no diagnosis...? i've had a problem with my right (and occasionally left) knee on and off for years now, and after a long time of not being bothered by it, it has come back. it started in my right knee maybe 6 years ago when i was about 14 on a school trip where we were walking a lot for 5 days. (only in the city, not hiking or anything) it hung around niggling at me for a few weeks after getting home but doctor couldn't give me an explanation, just said "don't walk too much then." helpful! started again a year or so later when i was at a festival, but in both knees (right worse than the left) but this time went away after a few days. it's been recurring like this for years but in the past 2 or 3 years it hasn't bothered me at all even when walking a lot, until september this year i had a bit of a niggle after doing lots of walking, and is now full blown after being stood up and dancing for a few hours at a concert a week ago (but only right knee again.) it is so painful i can barely walk the 10 minutes to work. the pain is something i find quite hard to explain, and when i look up knee pain i never find anything that fits. i get a kind of sharp pain when i am walking and i lift my right foot off the floor and bend my knee. the pain is at its worst when my knee is at its most bent, and it hurts to straighten the leg again. it feels like the pain is right in my knee joint. the only relief is when the foot is on the ground. sometimes feels like my knee is going to give way, and i feel like i have to brace my entire body against it to keep walking, and also to try and bend my knee as little as possible. this doesn't seem to help much though. it doesn't hurt just walking around the house, but it will start after a few steps of 'proper' walking. i have tried wearing supports during all the times it has happened before and they do not seem to make any difference at all. i am a horse rider and have been for maybe 15 years and am quite active as i work with horses but otherwise don't do much strenuous exercise, i don't run. do i need to go back to the doctor and insist on them doing something? or do i really just need to go easy on my knees? it never pops or anything like that, and doesn't look swollen. i sometimes feel quite a lot of pressure in my joint but that goes away in minutes and doesn't seem to be connected with the onset of this pain, and the feeling of pressure itself isn't painful.
