How do I get rid of knee pain after running? I just did about 14 laps around the track today, but when I got home, my knee started hurting really bad. The pain is on the right knee, on the inner-side of the knee. What should I do right now to ease the pain, and what can I do in the future to prevent this pain? I like running, but my knees say otherwise!
I have a persistent knee pain after running. What could be causing it? I love to run. Over the past few weeks, after running I get a pain on the side of my left knee. It hurts most during the motion of extending or bending the knee and in certain positions. The pain subsides after a day or two. There is no swelling. Any clues as to what the problem might be? I always stretch before and after running and have tried running with a knee brace - neither seem to help. After the last run, I've decided to stop running for at least a month to let the injury heal.
What type of doctor can help me with knee pain when running? Who can evaluate my running form and help me with my knee pain? Also, if I am wearing the correct running shoes. I have tried the running specialty stores and it worked out well, still having knee pain, would like a doctor to have a look. thanks
How can I prevent knee pain while running? I'm taking a jogging course in college and I am required to run a certain number of miles during the course of the semester. Although I already exercised regularly, I am jogging much more now than before (I used to mainly use an exercise machine bike.) I've discovered that I often get knee pain in the middle of my run that sometimes persists when I'm not running throughout the day. Yesterday I noticed that I seem to be automatically tensing up my knees as I run. I wonder if this could be the problem. What can I do? I want to keep running... but my knee problems are painful and sometimes even force me to take a short break early
knee pain from running. Do you think I need a knee brace to keep running? I wore wrong shoes when running and kept twisting my knee around and now theres a sharp pain on the side of my right knee and when I walk my knee like gives way. It jerks foward when I put weight on it and then it kind of shakes under pressure. Do I need a knee brace? Because it hurts really bad to run now but I have to keep running for sports.
How to avoid knee pain while running? Hey, I run several times a week in a park, but after 5-10min, i start feeling an increasing pain in my right knee. What should i do? or use to prevent pain and maybe injury? Thank you :) Btw, i use trainers for running.
pain in my knee after running two miles. this was 2 weeks before marathon. should i run the marathon? i completed my long run of 20 miles three weeks before marathon (ny). however, a week later, when i ran, i got runner's knee in my left knee at mile 2. the next day, same deal. it sucks, knee pain for the first time just two weeks from the marathon. so, should i even attempt the marathon? should i run the marathon next week, or would that be chancing serious injury? I haven't run for a week. even if i am pain free after running 5 miles tomorrow, should i run the marathon?
How to stop knee & ankle pain when running? I am a new runner. My right knee and ankle have been really bothering me. Today I had to stop running because the pain got too bad. Is this normal? What can I do to prevent it?l
Tips for overcoming knee pain when running? I took karate for about 9yrs and I think that's what originally messed up my knees. They don't hurt on a regular basis, though. Only if I run. I run on the treadmill (since outside would hurt them too much) and I love doing long-distance running. BUT it annoys me that I have to stop--not because I'm tired--but because of my knees. Any advice you can give me? I tried using one of those slip-on supporters (with the hole in the knee part) and that sucked. And I'm thinking of trying just the band supporters (like one band around a certain part and it's supposed to help). ************I warm up and cool down thoroughly enough, but is there anything else you found helpful?
Cause of knee pain while running? While running I get pains around my knee cap, what are the possible causes? The pain is usually strongest just below (not underneath) the knee cap but it is also present sometimes above it too. Never really on either side of it though.
Running Knee Pain After 4 miles? I just started running on cement this week and I've been getting knee pain after 4 miles. i stop and do leg swings and continue. i have been doing the treadmill before because where i live its to cold to run outside during winter months. after i run when i swing my knees it hear little clicking noises but no pain. what could be the cause of this? and what can i do before it gets worse?
How do I minimize backaches and knee pain caused by running? I love to run! I run on the treadmill about 4 times a week for about 30 mins ... can anyone tell me how to prevent backaches and the odd knee ache caused by running? I tend to get them quite often, more so because I'm on the taller side. Thanks!
Will running with a knee strap help with knee pain caused by running? I've had knee pain (pretty much constantly-mostly while sitting down) all week, and I'm almost positive it was caused by running. Today I bought this knee strap: http://www.muellersportsmed.com/Knee_Jumpers_Strap.htm Is it ok to go running with it on? Is it likely to help with the pain?
I was running and started getting knee pain? I am running to get ready to go to Marine Corps boot camp, today during my run I got a sharp pain on the outside of my left knee but I couldn't stop because I was running with the other recruits. After I got home I noticed that it hurt worse when I went down the stairs. It feels like bone rubbing against bone, I have had these pains before but I always just stopped working out and they went away after a few days. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I want to be able to do this when I get to boot camp without hurting so much.
High arches, knee pain...running shoe suggestions? I have very high arches. Because of knee pain, I've always considered myself a beginner runner. I start out slowly and stay with it for a couple of weeks, but then the pain is just too much and I have to stop. I have tried Nike shoes, Asics, and New Balance. I stood on one of those computerized things that are supposed to tell you what kind of shoe you need. They told me a specific New Balance shoe, and sold me inserts that were supposed to help. They were the most uncomfortable combination I've ever had on my feet after a week or two of running. I went to a running store, and the shoes they chose for me made my arches hurt because there wasn't enough support. I'm about 30 pounds heavier than I should be and I know that contributes to the knee pain, but I'd love to find some shoes that will help me walk/jog to get into better shape, and not make it painful to bend and straighten my knees. Do you have any suggestions?
I've been having some knee pain from running? I have been running for two years straight. Recently, my knees have started to bother me occasionally. It will bother me on the top, outer part of my knee. This normally happens during my run, or occasionally when I'm just doing everyday activites. I know that if your knee hurts in certain places you might have tendonitis or maybe other conditions, so I was wondering if where my knee hurts was anything to be concerned about or if it was just a common runner's knee problem.
Knee pain from running: What to do? Ice, heat? So I hurt my knee running in the sand about 3 weeks or so ago. I know never to do that again. But I have been having to cut back on my workouts. The problem is when I bend my knee while running, it is the right knee on the inside on like the cap part. Idk I think it is like inflamation in the tendon that is hurting but not sure. I have been icing it, especially after my runs, to reduce the inflamation. But now that it has been more than 3 weeks and it is still not gone, I am worried. I really need to start working out hard again for running. Should I use heat now? Maybe it hurts because it is tight too? Any stretches I could do without hurting it further? Please help!
Lower knee pain after running? Every time i run i get an intense pain when i stop like right below my knee. So like lower knee upper shin area i guess. It's a pain that sometimes lasts a long time. What is it? How can i solve it? I would love to get rid of it by tomorrow because i have to run tomorrow in gym class. Thanks.
having knee pain when running or jogging? When running sometimes or jogging i try run faster but then have to slow down because, the knees start feeling pain making me slow down then limits my speed. Is it my shoes because I'm pretty sure they are not running shoes or is it the way i run???
what should i do for knee pain(only when running) in my right knee? its been affecting me for about a week now and ive been biking for tht week. its affecting my training schedule. im a varsity distance track runner. any tips? ive also been icing daily but there doesnt seem to be a significant improvement. again, the pain is only when i run, and barely hurts when i walk. any comments and advice are appreciated
knee pain after running and hiking? I ran a 5 mile race a couple of years ago. Towards the end of my race my left knee started to hurt. The pain can be described as a sharp pain that worsens as i continue to workout. the pain almost feels like the outer side of my knee is tightening. it also makes my knee feel like it needs to pop to relieve pressure. My knee cap doesn't hurt but perhaps it feels like the pain encompasses my kneecap. Any thoughts on what the pain is? Can I do something to fix it? Thanks for the help
Knee pain after running well beyond my limits? I normally run 4, maybe 5 miles. A friend got me to run 17 miles on Thanksgiving(7 weeks ago) running every 8 minutes, then walking for 2. Since then, I've had aching knees and ligaments. I didn't hear anything pop, I'm able to walk comfortably, but there is always this dull pain. I've tried to run since then, but can't go past a mile without being in a lot of pain. I don't have the greatest medical coverage, so I don't want to go into a doctor's office and have him tell me to "take it easy. And that will be a $200 bill, sir". I'm looking for any comments, suggestions, etc on dealing with this. thanks.
is it ok to continue running through knee pain? i'm training for a marathon (my first) and am reluctant to fall behind on my schedule for increased mileage, but i've had knee pain for the past week that won't subside. per my research i'm guessing it may be bursitis, as it's located on the inside of my knee and is sharp.. will i create further injury by attempting to run through it??
knee pain while running? I've just started running again after a long season of cycling but when I run, I get terrible pain behind my knee caps. I used to run a lot but the pain was never there. Could there be something I'm missing in my diet? I'm only 22. I've also done a lot of wight lifting for my lower body because I was racing bikes. Would that cause knee pain?
Knee pain after running? I'm 14 and i've just recently started running and i've started getting pain in my knees. It normally only hurts when i walk up/down the stairs or when I start running, but after running for a while it doesn't hurt anymore. Am i just getting these pains because i'm still beginning to run and my knees aren't used to it? If so, how long would it take for the pains to dissapear?
Running & Knee pain? I'm a runner. I run about 2 to 3 miles everyday. I ran track this past year as a sprinter. A week or two ago, my right knee started hurting a bit. The pain lasted a few days then went away. But now the pain is back and has been hurting since Tuesday or Wed. It hurts esp when i'm going up or down stairs. And right now, just sitting there is a dull pain. Also, when i walk, there is a dull pain. what should i do about this and what do you think it could be? thanks!
Knee Pain While Running PLEASE HELP!? For the last two weeks I've been running about 4-6 miles every couple days. The last few days I've been experiencing pain on the outside of my knee. The first day I didn't notice it until about 45 min after my run, but today it started hurting about 1 1/2 miles into my run. My knee is fairly stiff, and I feel a sharp pain when I bend it, starting on the side and then radiating towards the front and back of my knee. The pain usually lasts a day or two after my run, it hurts a little when I walk, but mostly when going up and down stairs. Any ideas of what could be causing this? I've been running on concrete (roads and sidewalks) I'm wearing the same shoes that I wore for the XC season. I've got flat feet, and I also had surgery on this same knee about 4 years ago, and then again last spring to straighten my leg. It's definantly not joint pain, it's the muscles/tendons/ligaments on the outside of my knee.
knee pain while running after 30min? 3 months ago I ran a marathon (3hr 52) and since then I have done little running. I went out yesterday and after 30min pain started to build in my knee until it became unbearable. When I stopped teh pain went away but as continued running it built back up straight away and I stopped again. today the knee feels fine. The pain feels like something is stopping me push my leg straight again. All help appreciated!!!

Knee Pain from Running!? I run cross country and am now starting to experience chronic knee pain. It goes away sometimes after a few days of rest but yesterday I returned to practice bc my knee felt better, and now it hurts to bend it and even put weight on it. I am going to the orthopedic doctor but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what might be wrong and what I can do without quitting my running. Thanks,
Running and knee pain. What to do? I usually run on a electronic stepper machine. Ever since I started running I have developed a pain around, and mostly under, my left knee. It is a bit swollen and it feels like there is liquid accumulated the other side of my knee. What can I do about this? I am 28 male. I go running about 3 times a week. Thanks! I am sorry, it was not a stepper but a treadmill. Sorry :)
Knee Pain when running, sitting, and walking? I'm 13 years old and my knees (mainly left) have severe to mild pain while doing the above listed. I'm not overweight and I play basketball, but I've never had a major injury. I'm going to a doctor soon but any advice until then. Thank you

Knee pain while running or walking? Hi, Firstly I wanted to say I am fairly new to running, about 2 months of doing it often. I started a running program on coolrunning.com and it has actually worked and ive been able to run (jog) for 20 minutes straight gradually picking up my pace. Thing is, one day I was running on a treadmill (it was raining outside) and I usually push through pain and it goes away. Well this day on the treadmill (about 1.5 months ago) I pushed through really bad pain and today im still paying for it. The Interior of my knee hurts randomly especially when i run, although not always but more times than not and it hurts when I fully extend my leg straight. Medically speaking, according to Doctors and X-Rays there is nothing wrong with my knee and I dont think its my shoes, they're pretty decent. I am going to try one of those elastic knee braces but this pain has really drawn me back in my running given I am an Army Candidate so I need to be able to do this. Oh and I also stretch and do a warmup if anyone has anything to say please help.
Knee pain from running... Strange? Here's the story. I overtrained my right knee by upping to 60miles/week. So I took time off... Eventually went about a month without running. I biked on a stationary bike about 4 days a week during this period, most often for 35min, sometimes for 70min. So I ran for the first time in a month. Right knee, doing great. But my LEFT knee suddenly started hurting, and it was a different kind of pain. Whereas the right knee hurt if I, for example, stood on just the right leg... The left knee now hurts when it's bent. Walking down stairs is complete murder, and just because of the angle created, not during the impact or anything. But, left knee pain went away in 2-3 days. However, everytime I start running again, it comes back just the same, then goes away completely again in 2-3 days. It's like taking time off is pointless. What's wrong? Notes: 1.) Could my quad muscle gotten too strong from biking? 2.) Did x-ray, it came out a-okay. Next option is to either choose physical therapy or go see an orthopedist. 3.) There's a clicking sound in my left ankle when I walk... Don't think it was ever present before. If I try to walk a little bit more on the outside of my left foot, clicking goes away. Could I have somehow suddenly developed overpronation or underpronation in my left foot...? I've ran for years, never pain there, and now it developed? Hmm... 5.) My left leg is generally stronger than my right, but it has always been. I know this for a fact, believe me. 6.) Pain seems to be within my knee, and towards the outside (left side) of my left knee.

inner knee pain -- ankle/running related? I'm recovering from ~8 weeks out with strained/torn ankle ligaments on the outside of my foot. I began fitness back 1.5-2 weeks back, and am a soccer player. I have noticed on the inner part of my right knee (the same leg w/ the ligament issue) and even sometimes on my left knee, that there is this sort of pain. However, it's not really "pain" though per se, rather an uncomfortable niggle that I'm pretty worried about. Is it ankle related? Getting back in shape after lack of running causing this? Is it strained? I guess I'm worried that it's my MCL, ACL, etc. or even meniscus. I'm dying to get back to playing, and this is KILLING me to have to deal with it. Very mentally draining. B/C of the left factor, I'm just wondering. I can extend and walk fine, just sometimes when I step/push up I can feel it. Thoughts/expertise/help? Thanks so much!
Knee pain - After running for half a mile or cycling for 10-15 mins, my right knee gets quite sore - Help!? Hi, I have had problems with my right knee now for the past 3-4 months. Following a couple of games of football last November, my right knee has been suffering. The pain isn't excruciating and I can pretty much walk around without too many problems, but sometimes it does get sore just walking. If I work out at the gym, cycling or running, it gets pretty sore and turns red. Again, I can extend and flex my knee without any restriction. Any ideas what this could be? I hoped with time it would improve, but there is still a nagging pain. I thought it might be some sort of meniscus tear. If so, what sort of exercises can I do to help strengthen the knee and repair it? I will probably end up seeing a specialist, but I am sure they will just send me to a physio. Any feedback much appreciated :) Thanks. I am 30 - and just to add, the knee does feel stiff and sore most of the time, even when just walking around.
Knee pain after running. 7 days since last run? I ran for a week (m-friday). On Friday, I had to stop halfway through my workout because I had so much pain in my knee. It's right under the patella, probably more on the tibia. It's more on the inside, but not completely. I just started running last Monday, soooo... I'm planning on getting new shoes for running, but I'm not going to run for a while. Can someone tell me what's wrong? -ps. i haven't ran since fri.
Knee pain after running?! please help? I've had knee pain for the past several days (most likely caused by running). I rested it for 4 days. I *thought* it'd be okay to run today, since it hadn't bothered me at all today. So, I ran nonstop for thirty minutes, and I felt fine WHILE I was running. Now, I'm back at my house, and my knee feels kind of tight. It doesn't exactly hurt...just tight. like it might start to swell or something. What could be wrong? I'm starting cross country in a month, and I need to train.
Knee pain when running and jumping? i'm 14, 6'1.5", 175 pounds(strongest 8th grader), and participate in football, track, and powerlifting. i have a low body fat percentage and had tendinitis once in my left leg. two weeks ago i developed i knee pain that only shows up when i start running or jumping. it started in my left knee when i made a cut in an agility drill in weightlifting. now it hurts in my right knee too. there's no swelling, and it once it starts hurting it doesn't stop for a few hours...but it isn't chronic pain. does anyone have any idea about what i have? should i see a doctor? p.s. i've already seen the Trainer and he doesn't know whats wrong so he said i might either have osteosclerosis or mild tendinitis.

What causes knee pain and how do I manage it? I have been running 3 miles every day for a month. I have knee pain. It is not too bad but still makes me uncomfortable. During the days I do not run I have no knee pain (I usually supplement by going for a walk or swim). So what do you do to manage knee pain after running?
pain on the outside of my knee caused by running. PLEASE HELP!? After increasing my mileage, I began feeling some knee pain while running. It's been about a month and a half now, and the pain is still pretty severe. -As of right now, it feels like the outside of my knee is catching (very painfully) at random times (like when walking or going up or down stairs). - I've been shooting some hoops lately, and when I first start, it feels like my knee pops (no pain, just pressure) when I bend my legs. After a little while it starts to get more painful until i'm unable to play anymore. -There is some tenderness, usually if I press on my knee right after it catches, or after physical activity. I've been researching this for a month now, and I can't figure out what's wrong. Any help would be much appreciated! I don't know if some of you noticed this, but this has been going on for almost 2 months now, it's definantly not just sore. I took about 3 weeks off where I didn't do any physical activity, but it never completely went away, and when I started again it was just as bad if not worse then when it first started. (I do have a doc. appt. scheduled for next week)
Knee pain after running... history of injury in this knee... is running causing more damage or strengthening? Hi. About 5 years ago, I was hit by a cab driver in NY and injured my left knee. I don't remember all the details, but it was something along the line that my left knee was slightly hyperextended to the left. About a year ago, I started taking fitness seriously and started a walking regime. That walking regime turned to a power walking regime and now is a running program that takes me over 21 kilometers a week. The problem is, my old injury has started to ache... not when I am running, but when I am sitting or bending down. Do you guys think I am causing damage to my knee if keep on running? Taking it easy doesn't seem to help, since I took two weeks off recently and noticed no difference in the slight ache. What should I do? Stopping running is not an option. I know that rehabilitation can be a painful process, and pain can be a big part of healing. I'm just not sure whether this ia a healing pain from me strengthening stiff connective tissue, or if it is pain from me causing more damage. A brisk walk does not elevate my heart to an aerobic level. My target rate is 150-160 BPM. My resting rate is about 60. A brisk walk won't get me above 120, or 130 at the most if I go uphill. I am 24 years old. They only xrayed me after the injury to check and see if anythin was broken. I do get new shoes every 3 months. I'll look into a knee brace. Do you guys suggest a soft one or one of those mechanical looking ones with the hard support?
Knee Pain after Running/Jogging? Hey, yesterday my knees started to hurt after we ran around the gym like...20 times, but the pain goes away after 30 seconds or so. But from that time on, everytime i run or sprint, my knees start to hurt. Maybe I am still growing? I am only 14 years old. And also while i was runnign my friend shoved me so i kind of landed awkwardly on my knee, but the pain is in both knees. the pain is only mild. thank you! What should i do?
Hip and knee pain from running? First, just a little background info: I'm a 15 year old distance runner. Track season ended in mid May so I took two weeks off from running since I had knee pain during the last two days of practice. My hips tended to pop a little as well. I ran again- only around 3 miles since I wanted to get back into things. After running I did a core exercise which involved bending my knees and my right knee was in a decent amount of pain. I continued taking a break from running to see if my situation improved. I had Relay for Life this past weekend and was running across some fields with my friend from our tent to get to the main event area. After running about 75 meters or so I had to stop running because of pain in my right knee. On the walk back to our camp site, my hips began bothering me as well. Additional info: My knees tend to crack (especially after staying stationary for a period of time) and my hips no longer pop (they seem a little stiff) My hips are currently bothering me and my knees sometimes do as well. The knee pain is still mainly concentrated on the right side when it occurs, but it is almost always induced by running. Any idea what could be the problem? I know I should see a medical professional but I wanted to get an idea of what could be wrong from people with experience with this for now.
Knee pain after running? Im 20years old and my husband and I just had our first child--naturally I need to get back into shape (in the military) and I began running again. I never run less then 1.5 miles but some times i'll run a 5k. When i first start running my knees hurt but i push through it and it goes away. Afterwards, however; the pain returns and it makes it hard for me to walk after i've been stationary for a bit but it goes away after a day or two. Any ideas what im expierencing?
What shoe is best for relieving knee and ankle pain when running/working out? I have quite some pain in my knees and ankles when I work out and it's because of my weight. I just need something to relieve this pain a bit more so I can actually work out and not stop every 5 seconds due to extreme pains. Appreciate it if someone could tell me about this topic, and I also hear zig tech shoes are good?
What is this knee pain during running? During a 65 minute easy run I did today my knee began to hurt at about 40 minutes into the run. I kept jogging at a slower pace and after about 5 minutes the pain went away. What was that?
Knee pain while running in the rain? I run 4-5 times per week. This morning I went on my 5 Mile run but unfortunately it was pouring rain. I noticed a throbbing pain in my knees that felt different than the usual running soreness. Any ideas what this might be?
How can i stop knee pain i only have while running? Every time i run, i have pain in my left knee. It does not swell but it hurts on impact. This happens right as i start running, within 100 yards. I just started running to train, and i have tried insoles especially for knee pain from drug stores. I wear my running shoes everywhere but i just bought new ones and they are in the mail so i can have a pair only for running. if anyone has a serious answer please tell me because i need to start running. Thank you
How can I get back into running and over my knee pain? A couple of months ago I hurt my knee and after I recovered I was back to normal running, sprinting and cycling. Recently, however, I got sick for a couple of weeks and stopped exercising. Now, my knee hurts more than it ever did when I've tried to start running again. Even walking rapidly is a pain. What should I do to get back in shape and running?
knee and thigh pain/running? Well, i've been doing cross country this whole late spring/summer. i've been having some knee/lower thigh pain these past 2 days. I went to a family doctor last week, before i knew i would have knee pain, and they said my knees point outward...and they do because i can see them looking at them at an angle! well anyways...2 days later, my right knee starts to hurt after cross country monday morning! i iced it, elevated it...this morning at cross country, while running, i had some knee and lower thigh pain while running. it wasnt pain to the point i needed to stop right away, but it was very irritating considering we run pretty fast. anyways, i do know i dont run right at all! i run on the outside of my feet, and i have a pretty small stride. Im 16 year old girl, and at xc i go about 4/5 days a week and we run 5 miles pretty fast usually on pavement...do i have tendinitis..Also, i usually have pain and stuff but they last for only about 4-5 days and then the pain goes away. And, i have an appointment at a sports doctor on friday. Please help!
Knee pain from running? I recently started running about three weeks ago. I use the term "running" loosely. I've been doing about 3 10minute miles every other night. I was running last night and after about a mile in I started getting a pain in my upper knee cap. The pain only occurred when my foot made impact with the treadmill. No pain when I'm sitting or walking. Only on the heavy impact. I've been icing it then using icy hot at night and taking Ibuprofen every 6 hours. What else can I do for this?
Sharp pain from knee to foot from running? My friend went for a run the other day and came back complaining about a sharp pain from one knee down to what felt like a nerve in her foot. It's gone away now after a few days of not running. Any ideas about what this was and how to avoid it when running in the future? I thought shin splints is when the front of your shin is sore? She said it felt like a nerve is what hurt, running from the inside of her leg to her foot.
KNEE PAIN WHEN RUNNING! HELP??!? im in cross country running and this is my first year. i've done other sports that involve running before cross country. i did summer running and through the season i've been running alot. (our season is almost over) so im not a beginning runner. however, today i had cross country practice and today was an "easy day". about 10 mins into my run my knee started hurting. the pain is on the side of my knee and towards the bottom. (kind of by the bottom of the knee cap) it hurt really bad when i was running and now its sore. not unbarable pain or anything and i can walk but i just have no idea what caused the pain. i didn't twist it or anything so what could this be? i have a meet tomorrow (2 1/2 miles) and i've been icing it alot tonight. what should i do?? i don't want it to bother me during the race. other info: im 16, female. my knee seems to be worse when running on concrete hurts when i stepped on that leg while running thanks for any help/info
Lower knee pain after running? Every time i run i get an intense pain when i stop like right below my knee. So like lower knee upper shin area i guess. It's a pain that sometimes lasts a long time. Knee pain that doesn't start until the day after running.? I looked through a lot of questions about knee pain and running, but they all seem to be about knee pain WHILE running. My problem is that I don't feel any pain until afterward. Sometimes not for a couple hours or even the next day. I went to a doctor and he said it was probably synovitis, a kind of arthritis. But he couldn't say for sure and he didn't give me any suggestions on how to correct it. He just gave me some anti-inflammatory drugs and told me not to run for the next two weeks. But this has been a problem for many years. I don't run that often, because even if I just do 20-25 minutes I know it'll hurt the next day. I stretch before and after, though I'm not as flexible as I'd like to be. I'm always sure to drink plenty of water and I try to maintain a balanced diet. I don't have this problem if I use a bike or elliptical machine. I do kickboxing at least three times a week. I'm 24 and not overweight(6 feet tall 165lbs). I should be able to run a couple miles without having to worry about my joints. Anyone else who has had this problem found a solution? I forgot to mention that I am using specialized running shoes. Brooks Glycerine. I've never worn them outside, only at the gym. Plenty of tread and bounce left in them. It is the front of my knee. I've never really thought about my posture, so I'll give that a try. Thanks!
How do I avoid knee pain after walking/running? I got housemaid's knee a couple years ago (from continuously kneeling on concrete and pushing off with my right knee to stand, holding 25 lb). The problem is mostly my right knee. I walked two miles the other day in an effort to begin a running program and three days later my knee still hurts! I have good shoes and I did plenty of stretching prior to walking. I walked on concrete. It mainly hurts at night. How can I avoid this to be able to walk/run?
Knee pain while running? I am a frequent runner, but I took a little brake from it. Now the first time running again I got extreme knee pain. I have had a little pain in my knees b4 like this but it was never this painful. The pain is around my knees more in the front and sides but not in the back. What happened and how can I stop it? btw I had 2 stop early when running witch I have never done b4
help with ITBS. Outter knee pain from running? I run a lot. Recently I've been having outer knee pain in my lateral tendon (IT band). Im just wondering how I go about rehabilitating it. I have a couple races coming up and I can't deal with the pain anymore. If anybody has any experience with this or is a physical therapist that would be awesome. Thanks
New Running, Knee pain on the inner knee both legs? My girlfriend and I have recently begun to run together. I have been running for a while but my girlfriend has just started have a long long time off the pavement. We went for a slow jog the other day and she complained of pain in her knees to the point where she had to stop. I don't know how tolerant of pain she is but part of me thinks its because she hasn't run in a while but i know you have to really take care of your knees. What could this be and what kind of remedies are available? Runners bands? Knee Brace? Any advice helps, thanks!

What do i do about my knee pain from running? Every time I run, I get a severely sharp pain on my knee. It's not on my knee cap, but just outside it. I love to run. I play tennis, and I'm a runner. I've learned to deal with the pain, but it is becoming unbearable. When I'm running, I have to stop because I can't deal with the pain. I am running a 5K this summer, I need to train, but I'm afraid I might not be able to! What should I do!!
How do you heal knee pain caused from running? I have been running high school track (sprints, not distance) for a week and a half now. My legs were sore the first week, but in the last two days I've developed pain in my knees. It hurts when I walk downstairs and almost feels like it's behind my knees. This pain is so intense that I can barely run. We have a meet tomorrow and I know I won't be healed by then, but what can I do to minimize it and eventually heal the pain?
Is there a way to prevent of fix lower knee pain when running? I am a 24 yr Male and have been relatively active most of my life. In HS, I also had similar knee issues when playing sports and the trainers told me to wear a rubber band around my knees. Is this pain common? Also is there a strength exercise that I can do to help prevent this pain? More about the location of the pain: It is right where the doctor would hit you in the knee when trying to test your reflexes.
Marathoners- Should I be running on knee pain? I am running a marathon tomorrow. For the past few weeks while training, I have developed knee pain on the lower inside of my left knee. I had no pain yesterday when running, but today I only ran for about 5 minutes before my knee started hurting. Should I be running a marathon on knee pain like this? If I start the marathon tomorrow and can't finish because of injury will they have shuttles to escort me to the finish? How does that work?

Knee Pain after Running? I started back running after about a year of rest. Stupidly, I went full force and started running about 15 to 20 miles a week. A day ago, I went running and felt pain on the left side of my left knee. It doesn't hurt when I bend it, squat, go upstairs or walk on flat surfaces, but it really hurts when I walk downstairs or downhill. The pain is sharp when I step down. My knee is a little swollen, but the swelling has gone down since I've been icing it. Any ideas about what this could be?

Weird knee pain while running? So today I was out running. I ran for 40 minutes. During my run my knee kind of cramped up and felt a bit of pain. It didn't hurt it just felt stiff. I get this sometimes when I walk and bike too. I haven't been running for a really long time so it's not runner's knee right? Does anyone know what I can do about it. It's just an uncomfortable feeling just below or above the knee cap. Thanks.

What to do about knee pain from running? I am a beginner runner. I have only been running for about two months now, about two or three times each week. I have started getting knee pain after running and was wondering if this is normal. It hurts when I bend my knee while pressure is on it, like if I am picking something up off the floor. I looked up info about injuries to knees from running but all I found were things that happen to people who run a lot. I'm young, I have rest days between runs, I only run three miles, so I don't think those injuries would happen to me. Is this normal and is there anything I could do to prevent it?
What can I do about my knee pain, caused by running? I started running about 3 or 4 months ago but I'm having a hard time moving forward with my distance/time and speed because of knee pain caused by my running. I'm in my twenties and slim so age and weight are not causing or contributing to the pain. I've been told to use ice and take anti-inflammatorys. Is there anything else I can do? Will the pain go away eventually?
How to avoid knee pain when i am running? I recently went to the doctor for my knee, bending it kills! The doc said I just twisted it and said to give it time. its starting to feel better, but bending still hurts. Is it ok for me to run without bending it? They took x-rays and nothing was damaged. Is there anything i can do to help ease pain when i run? btw I am 15. Will I injure it further by running?
Knee pain, running a marathon? I'm 20 and I used to run a lot but got knee pain for a while and now I don't know if it's in my mind but after about 4 miles of steady running I sometimes feel knee pain and have to go light on that leg while running. I would like to run a marathon and was wonder how all these people run marathons when knee pain is so common?
causes of Knee Pain after Running? I started jogging recently and got into quite a good routine but one time when I went horseback riding after a run my knees were in agony! It's a pain on the inside of my kneecaps and my knees keep doing this if i run too much now. Can anyone tell me why or what I can do?
Knee pain only while running on concrete? I play soccer and basketball and run track as well. Running on the court, track and grass are never a problem but when I run on concrete my knee begins to hurt a lot and it is within a few minutes of running. The part of my knee that hurts on my left leg is to the right of the kneecap and on my right leg to the left of the kneecap.
How to get rid of/prevent knee pain while running? I recently started running almost everyday, and I find that after a little while of doing so, my right knee starts to feel a little weird. It doesn't "hurt" or anything, it's not really like, pain, but it's just uncomfortable. What should I do?
I'm having knee pain from running? I've been running a lot in school lately, recently I started noticing pain under my knee cap and the sides of my knee. How can I get heal it?
How do I ease knee pain while running? I used to be an avid (recreational) runner, for a period of 3 to 4 years. Somewhere along the road, I hurt my knees, and now running leaves me in pain. About 4 years have passed since I stopped running, and I would love to pick the habit back up, but, as mentioned, my knees hurt when I finish a run. Besides good shoes, what are some tips to keep my knees from hurting while I run?
Most leg exercises and running cause knee pain? I go to the gym three times a week for weights and cardio, but when I do any quad exercises, squats, or even extensive time on the stepper or elliptical, I get pain in one or both knees either above the patella or to the side of it. I have a knee sleeve, but when the pain is above the patella it doesn't do much to help. I'm not sure about when it's to the side yet. Any insight on avoiding this little problem or what could be the cause?
how to heal knee pain after running? My right knee hurts every time I run. It's usually the base of my kneecap and the back of my knee that hurt. what are the best ways to prevent this pain and best ways to get rid of it? like, what stretches should I do before running that will stretch out my knee and surrounding muscles? how long should I put ice/heat on my knee after running? should I take an anti-inflammatory like a low dose of ibuprofen after running? any tips would be greatly appreciated.
