Chronic pain in wrist, all tests completely normal? My husband was in Iraq working long hard days when his wrists started hurting. They diagnosed it at first as a repetitive motion injury, put him in ibuprofin, and gave him braces. His pain persisted, and he saw several more doctors in Iraq, and he was put on medrol for 7 days. This combined with complete rest eased his pain. In Feb. he re-injured his wrists by taking a required PT test for the Army. He has sharp pain, described as pressure, in the middle of the wrist joint, in both wrists. Nobody knows what's going on. X-rays, bloodwork, bone scans, MRI's, etc. have all been completely normal. He had an arthroscopy today and the inside of the wrist appeared completely normal. The surgeon also excised the nerve that supplies the wrist joint in an attempt to alleviate the pain, but he still has the same pain. Every doctor at the VA is telling us something different, and we are at a loss. Has everyone ever heard of anything like this? The doctors have NO CLUE what's going on, and his pain is so bad that he can't lead a normal life (ie; drive, button pants, pick up plates, etc) Thanks for any info!

How should I search for a Physician specializing in chronic pain? My friend was injured 2 years ago. Her injuries included a badly broken wrist, severe damage to her hand, and arm. She has had several surgical procedures to repair the damage. She has regained some function in her hand, however she has severe chronic pain. Her pain does not respond well to medication. I hope to help her find a physician that works wonders, where should I start?
Bad wrist pain when bent back? Injury: This occurred on last Monday, March 29. Pain onset in right hand wrist 4-5 hours after a boxing session at a new gym my friend found. May have been caused from improper wrapping on the right hand or improper punching on the heavy bag....or maybe a combination of the two. Symptoms: At rest, it does not hurt. If I bend my wrist back using only my own wrist strength to do so, I get light pain in my right hand wrist on the side opposite my thumb. Now, if I then take my hand and bend it back a little further than this, which is the same position it would be if I were to say push myself up out of a chair etc. The pain, initially, will be a little greater than the last part, my wrist will feel a bit weak as if I should not allow myself to put too much weight on it. However, once I release the pressure from my wrist, I immediately get a sharp, painful pang that shoots from the back of my wrist/side opposite my thumb up towards my pinky. This is one of those grit your teeth for a second kind of pains. Just to stress this again, it does not do this when putting weight on it etc., it does this when I release my wrist from the weight/pressure etc. I've also noticed a lot of little popping now with this wrist. It always has this feeling now that I need to crack it somehow and it will release some sort of pressure. Additional details: I am 20 years old, I do not have a history of contact sports etc. I have no reason to have any kind of chronic wrist issues. This was my THIRD time boxing, ever, at this new gym we were going to. Also, I went in and got my wrist checked up yesterday and had X-rays done. There was no fractures etc. to any of the bones that they could see. They did say, however, they could see there was some swelling on the side opposite my thumb. Other than that, there wasn't anything else they could tell me. They just said rest it etc. for a week, and if in 7 days it hasn't improved and I'm still getting pain from my wrist to come back in for an MRI.

Does anyone know anything about "pain memory" when it comes to chronic pain? Do you believe in this? I have had constant wrist pain for 2 years - but I apparently have no structural problems. What do you think? "For pain and inflammation, you can thank your body’s supply of chemicals called inflammatory mediators. When the body malfunctions or when tissues need protection while healing, these chemical triggers kick in. The brain interprets the resulting effects as pain–sometimes chronic, unrelenting or even disabling pain. Basically, the nervous system gets used to carrying pain signals and continues to do so long after the original chronic cause has gone. In a very real sense, the pain signals can become embedded in the spinal cord, like a painful memory. "

If someone has chronic pain and stiffness in muscles, are there gentle exercises that they can do? I have stiffness and chrnoic pain in my muscles bodywide: my upper body in particular (my neck and sholders). I have had a major car accident and have never really fully recovered as it has been several years now. I want to know if there are some gentle exercises to get back into shape. I cannot do most yoga poses as I also have carpal tunnel and cannot support my body weight in my wrists. Thanks for any help.
I have chronic pain in my back from scoliosis and disc degeneration? I also have tendonitis and carpal tunnel in both wrists from my line of work. The problem is that I just detoxed off an opiate addiction because I did not want that in my life anymore. However, the pain I am in is just too much to bear, and my doctors are hesitant to give me opiates now because of my past addiction and my own convictions. Is there a doctor in the syracuse or surrounding area that would sympathize with my situation???? I am completely through with the withdrawls - believe me - I know, and it was hell, but I just can't see being in pain. I am very physically fit. I'm married and have two kids - very responsible - I just have pain all the time. I question now why I got off of the pain killers.... but now I am labeled as a drug addict. Andrea - thank you for your kindness - it is much appreciated. Yes, I did see a chiropractor a few years back, and it helped. This time around, I feel worse - the only thing that managed to help me somewhat was a TENS unit given to me by my chiropractor. Wolfgirl - thank you for your kindness - I haven't tried accupuncture, hmm
Chronic Testicular Pain? Hi, I'm 17 years old turning 18, about 2 weeks ago I went into hospital with severe pain in my right testicle. I had a urine test, blood test, ultrasound, sti screening etc and they didn't find anything, not much swelling however there is a cyst there from when I was 12 but they didn't believe it was causing any pain so I ended up getting an IV shot of morphine and that didn't help the main much at all. I told the ER doctor how much pain I was in but I ended up getting a box of panadeine forte (30mg of codeine/500mg of paracetamol) and of coarse that didn't do a thing. So I went back to the hospital again the following day due to the chronic pain and inability to sleep that night, they ran some more tests and gave me some more morphine, this time a fairly good amount which dulled the pain down a bit. I ended up being discharged a few hours later after the dr diagnosed me with epididymitis and sent me off with a prescription of 500mg ciprofloxacin tablets, roxithromycin tablets and 20 5mg oxycodone tablets. I have been taking these since I got prescribed them until I started getting joint pain in my wrist and arm and wrang the dr which he then told me to cease taking ciprofloxacin. I then saw my GP since I had ran out of oxycodone and he prescribed me another 20 5mg tablets even though I had told him the pain wasn't going away unless I took 20mg at a time. Also my sti screening test came back and I had tested positive for chlamydia so he put me on 500mg of zithromax. I have now finished all my antibiotics and am still in the same severe amount of pain I was in when I first went to the hospital. I cannot sleep without any type of strong painkiller because of the pain and unless I'm on a high dose of oxycodone I'm limping around the house with my right leg stretched out as far as possible. What am I going to be able to do now? I doubt any doctor is going to continue more pain treatment so am I stuck with this pain for the rest of my life? Anybody else had a similar situation such as this? I have tried everything possible that the doctor has recommended and every "home remedy" possible. Please help!!!
Does anyone know/have what I have? Chronic type pain? I have this chronic pain that seems to be coming from the muscles, but its really hard to Identify where the pain is originating, due to the fact that my whole body aches. I have gone to the doctors many times and each time I was told that it was just growing pains. One time I was diagnosed with hyper mobility syndrome. its very hard to describe the pain, but ill give it my best shot. -constant aching(worsens at night or when I switch my attention the pain) -pain is dull and subtle. -if I don't move tension starts to build up in my muscles(mainly in the thy and calf area. -pain in my wrist and ankle area. -the only way to relieve the pain is by constantly stretching and/or cracking my joints. again the pain isn't like "ouch" type pain but its very dull annoying pain. It keeps me up at night, and a constant distraction. also being submerged in water like a pool, the pain is gone. The more engaged I am in activity and the less i think about the pain the better, but its always there. It makes it really hard to stay still. I often times describe it as how it would feel if you could feel yourself growing. also I had it since I could remember. I am also always stretching/cracking my hands and feet as the pain is also there. I thought i might have some type of arthritis but I have full mobility, and hyper mobility.
Why do i have chronic pain from a mild t4 fracture i sustained in a fall 1.5 yrs ago? Please help!! I need to find out what is going on to cause all of this pain. 1.5 years ago I fell on ice, landed on my upper back, knocked the wind out of myself and heard a loud crunch sound in my head. I was in constant pain but 1st xray showed nothing (taken 3 days after fall). I went and had another Xray after 1 month showed mild anterior wedge compression fracture of T4. I was told to bed rest for 1 month which i did, this did not help. Bone scan 2 months after the fall showed nothing and mri two months after the fall just showed very mild anterior wedge fracture of T4, which they said was of questionable significance (they also thought I fell 4 weeks prior to mri, not 8 weeks prior, I don't know if this makes any difference) I have gone to 3 physiotherapists, accupuncture, ims, injections into my back, massage therapy etc. Nothing has helped to relieve this constant pain. It all starts right at the spot of the fracture then runs down my spine and around my ribs to the front on both sides. My shoulders also kill across the upper back and runs down my left arm to my wrist. The pain worsens throughout the day and is the worst at night. I get very little sleep because of it. I haven't worked in 1.5 yrs and cannot sleep. I have tried tylenol 3, gabba pentin and tramacet for pain but none work. I do not want to try anything stronger as I would just like to know what is wrong and how this can be fixed before resorting to pain medication. If anyone has any answers or advice, please let me know. Thanks Sorry, I should just add that I have seen a doctor about this and another doctor has looked at all of my reports and both just say it should be healed by now so it must be muscular and to just push through the pain (i just started a rehab program) but it is killing me and I am afraid of doing damage. I just worry that if it is healed, it shouldn't hurt this much and all the pain radiates from the exact spot of the fracture. Also, the spot hurts terribly to touch so how can it be healed?
wrist pain maybe tendonitis? I have been feeling pain in my wrist that feels like a sprain would. I didn't do anything to injure myself, I was just sweeping the floor when it started. It's been all day now. It is a bit swollen on the top a little. Now I know carpal tunnel is by the thumb so its not that. I did have tendonitis in the same area a while back so I'm thinking it came back. Does tendonitis heal or is it a chronic condition?
Having wrist pain... my right wrist has a shooting pain when I extend it (upward) about half way, especially if I put pressure on my palm at the same time. The joints in my wrist also "crack" when I sqeeze my hand into a fist. The pain becomes elevated when I over-use it but is pretty much chronic. I am a drummer and have been for 17 years. I also work in a nursing home where I lift and push constantly. Can you tell me what is wrong with my wrist?
chronic pain starting in hip spreading quickly 17yrs old scared..? Hi, Im 17 years old, in 2008, 3 days before my 16th birthday I suddenly woke up with a pain in my left hip which made it unable for me to stand on it. I went to the doctors and got sent to hospital for X-rays which came back "relatively normal" and got sent away with crutches for a few days. After a few months of only having a small amount of pain it got worse and spread to my back, I decided to ignore the pain hoping it would disappear but instead of disappearing it kept spreading, in June 2009 I took a CBT test for a moped and almost failed when my shoulder locked up when I was driving, it was the worst pain i'd ever felt and my instructor stopped me, I was only 20 minutes in to the drive and I managed to convince him to let me keep driving albeit slowly and whilst I tried to stop crying. anyway, the pain just kept spreading and is now in my lower back. left hip, right hip, knees, ankles, shoulders, neck, and most recently in my right wrist. each week the pain gets worse and i cant deal with it anymore, the worst pain at the minute is if i touch my ribs, it feels like they are bruised and the bone really hurts. the pain isnt in the muscels but in the actual bone. I just want it to stop spreading. Ive seen the doctor so many times, seen a physio and ive got an appointment with an orthapaedic outreach team on monday. basically my question is, what could be wrong with me? I want to get myself ready for the worse. I can barely walk anymore please can someone help? im only 17 :'(
What are some legal ways of dealing with chronic pain.? I'm 32 years old, in the military and suffer from chronic pain every moment of every day. I've broken a wrist, foot, and toe which all still hurt. I have an achilles injury that has not healed in 2 years. Both my knees hurt. And I've had kidney stones for the last 3 weeks. The only medication I've been given is 50mg of Tramadol (Ultram). The Tramadol has zero effect on my pain. I've tried everything available to me within the military to better the health care that I am receiving, however anytime a subject such as mine is brought up you are thought of as two things: A liar and an addict. Instead of helping you, they give you the run around for sooo long that eventually you say f*ck it and give up. *Edit - Funny someone mentioned an antidepressant. I am on Wellbutrin for depression which in part I believe was brought on by pain and inability to do the things I enjoy.
I was hit in the hand by a slow-moving car at the beginning of April. When will the chronic pain stop? On a Friday afternoon, I walked by a gas station and there was a minivan waiting to drive away. I figured since the driver was still waiting for the traffic to lighten up, I could pass by without a problem. Unfortunately, she was not paying attention to me and drove toward me. I tried to get out of the way but still got hit. She immediately apologized after the impact and then I walked off. Since then, my left wrist has hurt a little bit each day. I have been taking ibuprofen for it. When will the chronic pain stop?
Chronic Pain please help? I am a sufferer of Rheumatoid Arthritis, it began in my feet, ankles, knees, hands and wrists, which caused a great deal of pain as it did. I now suffer pain in my elbows, muscles around my joints especially knees and ankles feels like they are on fire all the time. My back also, is hurting a great deal, my shoulders get on off pain and stiffness too. My Dr has gone thru all the weak Opiates/ Opiods with me. None of these worked. I am now on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patch 20mg per week 20mcg per hour release with Co-Dydramol 10/500mg 8 per day. My pain is still chronic and severe. I also, use DMARDS - Sulfasalazine 500mg 4 times daily, Prednisolone Steroids 10mg once daily, High Strength Folic Acid and Vitamin D and Calcium pills daily. Plus a few more pills to combat side affects from my Steroid use. My Dr has told me and my mom today when she saw him, that I would just have to deal with the pain and exercise more even though I exercise twice daily but light exercise until my joints have had enough. He has said there is nothing he can do for me so I will just have to take the Chronically Severe pain. Buprenorphine is the only strong Opiate he has tried me on, he once said he would give me Morphine tablets but has now back tracked on his idea. I am in the UK, I know from research that Buprenorphine stops the analgesic effects of other Opiates from bein as affective. That there is also, other meds avaliable in England that are NOT Morphine but have less side effects and/or slightly weaker like Palladone (Hydromorphone) and Oxycontin/Oxynorm. Hydrocodone although legal in the UK, Dr\'s dont seem to know anything about it even in the brand name Vicodin, some even suggest i is Dihydrocodeine (DHC / Darvocet), even though it is not. But he seems not interested in helping me saying im too young to become an addict. Like any age is good to become an addict, but I also know if used correctly at low doses addiction is not a real problem. Even the manufacturer leaflets on these drugs say it can be used by all people of any age just extra care is needed when under 18. I am 24 in 2 weeks BTW. Is my Dr right to say these things? Or is it he is not interested much in helping me? I even had to fight for Dr\'s to recognize I had R.A because I broke the usual text book understandings of it just 2 appointments with a Rheumatologist said I had the disease a very aggressive Seronegative R.A. Even she told me not everyone plays by the rules with disease and most Dr\'s are ignorant of the problem. My Rheumatologist also, wants me off the Steroids because they commonly cause Brittle Bone Disease (Osteoperosis) when used for long periods. Which I do as a blue steroid treatment card holder. But my Dr is refusing to wean me off the Steroids because the pain im in. I use steroids and still get swelling nearly everyday, only thing that helps my disease is illegal even Rheumatologist said it helps that is Cannabis it gets rid of my pain better then all pain meds so far and it gets rid of swelling and inflammation better than steroids. My pain is so bad, I cant get more than 3 hours sleep without waking up from the pain, I have big black circled shadows around my eyes cos I cant sleep and the pain keeps me up. Half the time I cant walk or get ot of a chair without help or my Crutch. Plus I have a huge phobia of needles so cant use Anti TNF drugs, its even hard for me to get my bloods done every 3 months. Then dont come on answer website jayjay you fool and yes I use canabis too, but when it costs so much and yor Disabled and cant work and dont have a rich mom or pops to sponge off, hen you need medical help, cannabis is still illegal in UK cos politicians control the health care system, I am pro cannabis cos I use to live in California where it is legal medicine. But you are an idiot one of them who have no knowledge in cannabis no doubt. Thanks for the comments people. To the nice lady who tried help, I exercise twice daily to the point my joints tell me enough is enough. Tramadol is crap I have used the strongest strength of it and Paracetamol on its own works better for me, plus im allergic to SSRI Tramadol is also an Anti Depressant but a mild one which is why I was tried on it. I cant take NSAIDS Non Steroid Anti Inflammatories because im allergic to them especially Naproxen and all Aspirin like drugs including Anadin (wish I could use), Ibuprofen, Nurofen and Aspirin off course. Im also, allergic fatally to Alcohol so cant use ethanol meds. I see a Rheumatologist and a Occupational Therapist (both in the same rooms at my local Hospital). Yes to the other comment there is no known cure for R.A infact it can kill people which is relatively unknown fact. It is also systemic diease meaning it dont just attack the joints and connecting muscles and tissue, but also, the sklin organs blood vessles. Yes maybe it was overlooked I did write it but I will again I am under a Rheumatologist Consultant and same department has Occupational Therapists. I use alot of meds which, I wrote in the main piece too. All help and advice is greatly welcomed unless it like jay jay the ignorant one.
How do I get/keep a job with chronic pain? Hi. I’ve been suffering from chronic joint pain (rheumatoid arthritis) for several years in my knees, wrists, fingers, and jaw, and I’ve lost several jobs b/c of this. I used to work on my feet all day in a factory, but this really hurt my knees. Then I got a job as a web developer for an advertising company, but had to quit after just three months b/c the pain was just too horrible. I can’t use voice recognition software to help b/c I have a severe case of TMJD, which makes speaking very painful (and has kept me on a liquid diet for well over a year). I spoke to my doctor about my problems and he thinks that I should avoid jobs that require being on my feet for long periods of time, any repetitive work, or a lot of speaking (…well duh…), but doesn’t seem to understand how this would prevent me from working at practically all jobs… I just need to be more creative he says, and that’s the end of the conversation. So now I’m trying to think of a job that involves neither of these three things, but I’m having a lot of difficulty. I was wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions b/c I guess I’m just not ‘creative’ enough. Btw disability is not an option b/c my doctor refuses to give me a note for this. Probably has something to do with me being only 23.
Any LMT's with chronic pain? What works for you? I work as an LMT for a chiropractor and have been having some issues with pain and inflammation in my wrists and arms. What methods are the best for helping besides tylenol every day. I use ice sometimes, and get regular adjustments from the Doc.
Ways to cope with Chronic Pain? Ok, So last year I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia (I have seen four different specialists, who have all confirmed it). I was only 16 when I got the diagnosis (I'm 17 now), and my doctors said I was the youngest person they've seen with it. I have done two years of physical therapy (on and off for a few months at a time), one year of acupuncture, and chiropractor (I had curvature of my spine due to a horse fall). I try to work out on a daily basis (weight lifting and cardio) and stay really active. My pain originates in my upper and lower back, along with severe muscle spasms/trigger points. I am currently home bound because I can't get out of bed most days because my back is so tight and "locked up". I also can't sit in a chair for more than an hour, without passing out from the pain (I have been told I have a really high pain tolerance and that my body copes with it well, so it's serious if I start passing out). I also have reoccurring tendinitis in my left ankle, kneeand wrist, which is a separate problem [from sports injuries]. All of my pain is triggered by change in weather or mental/physical stress. I have a few ways of coping and trying to "numb" the pain without meds: using an electric stimulant machine (every morning for 15 minutes, or as needed), using my massage chair and heat before my back locks up, and a cardio work out. Are there any other strategies you use? Dp the icy-hot patches (or other products like this) help? Also, is there a chair/cushion that you would recommend for back pain?
Methadone????...... My Doctor is an IDOT? Okay, firstly, I was injured in combat in Iraq about four years ago, very badly. Secondly, I broke 5 bones in my body after the explosion of an IED, including the two bones used most often, my right and left styloid, my right and left triquetrium. Thats both wrists in MEDICINE language for those not familiar with anatomy LOL. Needless to say, since my discharge from the Army, I have been recieving medical care at the VA, they dont seem to apperciate opinions from patients, even if they're in medical school??? I have been on Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Dilaudid, Percocet/Vicodin, Darvocet, Propoxyphene, THE WORKS!!! Recently, I was put on Morphine I.R. 15mg po tid prn, three times daily as needed for pain, for my chronic wrist pain, as I am actually in medical school now and am forced to write ridiculous papers and work with the wrists I broke in the Army on a daily/nightly basis. I researched every medication I've taken, including the Morphine. I dont like it. Morphine's sedative effects are too pronounced, it causes severe constipation, even worse than acetaminophen/hydrocodone does. So... I have requested Methadone. And I'll tell you why, aside from the fact that I've taken it before. Every narcotic/ opioid analgesic I've taken, I didnt like. The majority of the time, I actually returned them cause they do absolutely nothing. I returned a bottle of Oxycodone 15mg about two weeks ago that was practically full cause it doesnt make my pain go away. I am not for taking all these addictive medications, and my goal has always been to take as little medications as possible, as few times as possible. I researched Methadone and asked my doctor about it. I told him the following: It will only work, if prescribed in a dose that will be effective for someone 230lbs, not 5mg twice a day. I have taken this before with little pain alleviation, ONLY due to the extremely low dose. 1. It's rarely addictive, the potential for abuse is very low, as it has no euphoric values 2. It lasts longer than any medication I've ever taken. I take one 10mg tab, and my pain will be gone for almost a day or two, LITERALLY 3. No constipation 4. No nausea 5. It does not interfere with any other of my medications. SO WHAT THE HECK, is this guys problem. He will put me on all these other opioids, but not the one that actually BLOCKS the other opioid medications, and helps the most. Its not just used for withdrawl from heroin, but for chronic pain too. Any suggestions, again, I am in med school, money is tight, and VA care is free for me. GO potty Yes, Medical School, I know. My goal is not to be poppin Oxys or Percs in the middle of a bioethics class, LOL. So because of the long lasting pain alleviating effects of methadone, thats what I'm opting to take. Oh, for all you med students out there, I'm at UVA YEAH!!! Go Potty
Why do I have chronic joint pain? I have chronic joint pain. I have seen numerous doctors, and they are stumped. The pain is in all joints - shoulders, elbows, wrists, knuckles, hips, knees (worst), and ankles. The pain is constant. It helps to fidget and move around, but when I sit still, the pain is right back. If I exercise or do too much moving, the pain multiplies in strength and sometimes leaves me immobile. X-rays were normal. EKG was normal. Bone scan was normal. MRI of knee showed normal wear and tear, nothing that would cause pain. Blood work is all normal. Rheumatoid factor is normal. Uric Acid is normal. Lyme Disease test negative. Joints have excellent movement and don't hurt to move. There is no inflammation in any of the joints. The pain cannot be touched; it is deep in the joint, not one place particularly. Doctors cannot find the reason for the pain. Please help me. Fibromyalgia has been tested for and all came back negative.
Chronic Back pain & Joint Pain, related? I have always had chronic joint pain since I was 12, I always said I had weak ankles & wrists. I always sprained my ankles & my wrists would give out easily. my shoulders & hips pop in & out of joint all the time, doesn't really hurt since they go right back in. Since having my 2nd daughter 1 yr ago (who I had an epidural with) I have had almost daily lower back pain, right on my spin. It is a dull pain for majority of the day & as soon as I lay down (or sometime I move a certain way) it is extremely sharp & sudden. Most of the time my husband can just rub it & it eases it away. I've now recently started having a different back pain, about once a week. that occurs when I step with my left foot, it starts out in the center but radiates out to the left, but still in the lower area I always have pain. I have no idea if all or any of this is related or not. I also have had daily headaches since have my daughter.
What is casuing this pain in my wrist? I'm a 58 year-old male with no chronic conditions except high cholesterol. About a month ago, I noticed that I got a sharp pain in my right wrist when I lifted my coffee cup. Right before the pain, I felt my wrist kind of "slip" or bend downward. I can reproduce this pain by making a fist and pushing it down with my other hand while trying to keep it from moving. I do not have any pain, numbness, tingling etc. in my fingers or my elbow. It seems to be getting progressively worse with pain now in different kinds of movements. Any idea on what might be causing this? Thanks! KesperQ, thanks for the answer. I should have mentioned that the pain is on the outside (little finger side) of my wrist, just above where that bumpy bone is.
I have constant pain in my legs and hips, what could be causing this? For about 1 year and 1/2 i have been having chronic hip pain and just recently i have been having problems with my left knee just giving out when i am just walking or doing normal stuff. I also found a lump/tumor in the top of my left calf. Sometimes i have pain in my elbow, ankle, and wrist. i dont know what could be causing this. i have been to the doctor and they say there is nothing wrong with me but there has to be because this isn't normal! Please Help!!!!
undiagnosed chronic muscle pain in several areas of my body...please help me any ideas on diagnosis? I am 25 years old and for nearly 18 months I have been in terrible constant crippling pain and i feel i cant stand another day of it. It started in my mid to upper back at night and then weeks later a pain in a very distinct point in my shoulder, then a point on the very ball of my heel, then a specific point in my neck above the top vertabrae, now my wrist seems to be starting up too, its never ending. In the morning i cant walk i basicaly crawl or limp and also when i am sitting for a while and then stand i have to limp. I persisted at the doctors with different painkillers as none seem to help that much, im now on diclofenac and cocodomol 30/500 but still im in pain with them and as soon as four hours is up fter taking the painkillers Im back to very severe pain again. I have been refered to physiotherapy who just say strain and posture but I really feel like theres more to it than that as im only young and everybody says i have good posture (not that u can always tell) . Psysiotherapy gave me simple excersizes to strengthen other muscles to take the pressure off but i barely even have the strength to do these and i feel so much worse afterwards. I have had some blood tests including arthritis which came back negative, these tests were done when it was only my back that hurt. I dont know if its connected but i also have re-occuring iritus and sometimes i have little distinct repetitive twitches on my face (eye/side of nose) and sometimes at other points of my body especially when im tired. Does anybody have any ideas on what may be going on with my body as im at my wits end. Sorry about the lengthy describtion im just desperate i feel i cant quite capture to anyone just how bad this is! Can I also add before all this i had never ever had any health issues at all, im of average weight (but ive put on a little through not being able to be as active as i used to be) Thankyou
What's wrong with my wrist? I have a nagging, chronic, pain in my right wrist. It is very localized, and does no travel down my fingers or up my arm. Looking down at my wrist, it is on the right of center, and on the top. I need to get this sorted out ASAP. There are two events that led to this. The first was while working as a baggage handler at a nearby airport. I jumped from a belt loader, a height of only about 4 feet, to the ground. I'm 5'10", and a bit on the heavy side. Upon landing, my knees buckled, and I had to use both hands, palm to the ground, to break my fall. There was no long lasting pain with this, just the usual ouch, get up, brush off, and go about your day. Fast forward a few weeks, and I am moving. While moving, I've got the task of getting a standard wall Piano into a mobile home. The only way to do this is go up the front steps and turn it into the doorway. There is no straight shot at the door. The Piano has a very smooth finish, and I'm a sweaty mess. I've got my brother, on the other end. I'm walking up backwards. So, my grip starts to slip from the sweat/smooth wood thing and I request to stop. I thought the request was understood, but it was not. I was pushed into a sitting position with a Piano bearing down on my right wrist, pinning it in the upside down position. Immediate pain.... And I mean it hurt. Having a few wrist injury veterans around me, we sort of self diagnosed it (mistake) and determined there was no break. It was swelling slightly, but no bruising. And, at the time, I had full range of motion. Shortly after this, I was at work handling some luggage and quickly discovered that I had continuing pain in my right wrist. Fast forward 3 years, I've still got the pain, and a physical inability to bend my wrist backward or forward to the flat position. Most of the time, the pain is not an issue as I'm not always using my wrist to that degree. However, everyday activities done for an extended period of time will cause pain. Such as typing, or playing computer games with a joystick. After these activities, my wrist will feel locked, and almost immediately pop or snap back into place and it hurts! I am incapable of push ups. Direct impact, such as shooting a pistol does not seem to not affect it, it's only when I bend it forward or backward. Anything done with a straight hand or fist, for the most part, does not hurt. My grip strength has been severely affected. I am more than positive something broke in there, way back when, and sort of healed incorrectly, thus causing all this pain. However, if it had healed, I would think there would be no continued pain, only the limited range of motion. Others say that I simply sprained it, and due to "babying" it every since, it simply needs some physical therapy to stretch things back out. What say you?
Adolescent with chronic pain issues? My 14 year old daughter has been having leg pain since she was 2 or 3 years old. When it first started, it seemed to be only in the lower part (shin/calf area) of one leg only, usually the same leg. She's be in terrible pain, crying for a long time. I told the pediatrician at the time about it, but it was dismissed as "growing pains". It only occurred after a period of more intense than usual activity, like going to Six Flags or Renaissance Festival. It has happened off and on since she was little--intense leg pain, though now it has become bigger, involving both legs, often all the way up, and is now in her arms, wrists, fingers, too. I have told the pediatrician every year during her physical, but it's always dismissed as growing pain or just plain dismissed. This year, they checked her sed rate, hemoglobin, etc) But basically said they won't recommend seeing a specialist, that it's probably from "stress" and she should take yoga and learn relaxation techinques. She's going out of state to school this fall and we wanted to have an idea what to tell the school in case something comes up. When she's in pain, she has had to take 4 advil (equal to 1 prescription strength ibuprofen) to get some relief. Tylenol does not help much. She's fairly active, walking, biking, plays volleyball and soccer at school. And the pain, especially the leg pain is still worse after a more strenuous day than usual. But let me stress: IT IS NOT THE SAME KIND OF PAIN YOU GET FROM WORKING OUT; it's a deeper kind of ache, she feels like it's in her bones. Any ideas, similar situations, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
21 year old, weird symptoms? i have been suffering from headaches, nausea, feet going numb while exercising, emotional spurts, chronic hunger, wrist pain (left), nervousness, lack of concentration, sensitivity to light, and i've been on my period for more than 3 months (usually will have it for a week, it will go away for a few days, i'll get it again for a while, and so on. i used to be on depo-provera "the shot" and my last one was in august 2006) my family history includes rhemetoid arthritis (paternal grandmother), pulmonary fibrosis and blood clots (father, deceased 43), emphysema (maternal grandfather; paternal great-grandmother; paternal great-aunt, deceased 59; mother). i am only 21, i don't think i should be feeling these chronic pains and problems at such an age. any ideas of a diagnosis?
I work out 4-5 days/week & now injured wrist? As stated, I'm pretty upset because for Easter I fell off a dirt bike and broke my fall with my left hand. The days following the incident didn't put me through any pain at all (wrist wise); 2 weeks later I was working out my chest with dumbbells and the next morning my wrist was really bothersome. It's been about a week since I worked out my chest and did this to my wrist... I've gone to a chiropractor and didn't find any fractures. It's not a chronic pain but just hurts when rotate my wrist at certain angles or do sudden jerks. The chiro recommended I avoid any stress on my wrist, which I agree completely. But anyways, my main question is, I've been working out for about 2 years and I was FINALLY starting to get big and lean like I've always wanted; and now this happens to my wrist. So for the past week I've pretty much just been hitting lower body workouts; and throwing in 4 sets of shoulders and chest workouts (on machine's that don't require the use of my hands/wrists - BTW, I have really strong and big legs so I know my lower body workouts release alot of good hormones for my muscle growth). Will taking off about a month or 2 time really effect the muscles that I've already put on my upper body. I don't want all the hard work I've put in to go away because of my wrist. Is there anyway to really get in a bicep/tricep workout with an left injured wrist?
Is it all right to take aspirin with Lyrica? Alright. So I recently started taking this medicine called Lyrica to help with my chronic wrist pains. I had to go to the ortho yesterday, and my teeth are currently KILLING ME. Like, hundreds of little needles stabbing at my gums. Soo, I was told to take aspirin to take away the pain - but the orthodontist didn't know I was taking Lyrica. I'm curious if it's unhealthy to take the two pain killers together. I've taken aspirin for two days so far, and I haven't died or anything, but I was just wondering if I should stop. Wow. Um. I meant "alright" in the question title. Not "All right." Sorry. I have a pathetic grammar and spelling habit.
How do I get a friend on a Radio Talk Show? She is an author, professional speaker, trainer, and an expert in repetitive strain injuries. She has 18 years experience working with endurance athletes and with people who are suffering from chronic joint and muscle pain. She has authored several books including "Pain-Free Triathlete" and "Pain-Free Runner," both focused on her work with athletes. She is also an expert in carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, and any other aches and pains we may be experiencing. I know that she's helped hundreds of people all over the world to reverse hand and wrist pain and numbness. Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Gus
Chronic epididymitis, need help?!? Okay, this will be a fair bit long so bare with me. Roughly 3 1/2 weeks ago I started getting a heavy pressure feeling in my right testicle and then a sharp stabbing pain, kind of like being kicked in the balls and the immediate pain didn't go away. I left it for 2 days before realizing I needed to go see a doctor because I could run the risk of a testicular torsion. I saw my gp, he examined me and sent me straight off to my cities main hospital. I got straight in and was seen by multiple doctors, each examined my right testicle etc before sending me off to the oncologist to have a ultrasound. Turns out I had a small cyst on the top of my right testicle however he believed it had nothing to do with the pain. I end up getting a rectal examination after that, an STD test.. you name it, I had it. So they sent me home with 14 days worth of Roxithromycin and a box of panadeine forte. The pain was still present and increasing overnight so the next day I came back to the ER. I was then put on IV morphine and that took the pain away slightly so it was bearable till I was checked by another oncologist and he diagnosed me with epididymitis. I was sent home with a full box of 500mg ciprofloxacin. First 2 days on the ciprofloxacin I started getting pain in my wrist and joints in my arms, wrang the hospital back and was told me cease the treatment due to possibility of tendonitis. Unable to sleep and suffering from the extreme pain, I decided to try another hospital which has a private ER department. I went in, was examined etc then told to continue treatment with the roxithromycin and was finally given a prescription of 5mg endone (oxycodone). A few days after this, when I had run out of the endone, I went to see my GP to update the situation etc and was told the lab report came back and to my suprise I had tested positive for chlamydia. So got another prescription for 20 5mg endone tablets and 2 tablets of zithromax. This had obviously cleared the infection and I was positive I was finally on the road to recovery. I go back a week later to my GP and tell him things have not progressed at all & that the pain is constantly there & I had been needing to take 20mg every 6 hours to have any pain relief. He then prescribed me 20 oxynorm 10mg tablets (oxycodone) and a prescription for 50 25mg endep tablets which are suppose to somehow target neuropathic pain etc. So up till today, this whole ordeal has been about 3 1/2 weeks and am still in chronic pain, unable to walk without limping slowly and unable to sleep unless I have the 20mg oxycodone in my system and I am running out fast because I am only on 10mg tablets and I only get given 20 tabs every week. I was contemplating on going to the hospital tonight because I have none of my medication to deal with the pain and cannot see my doctor till next week now but none of my family members can be bothered to take me so if it gets really unbearable, should I call an ambulance? I'd catch the bus but there aren't any that are even close to the nearest hospital. Also, I have been on fentanyl, hydromorphone and MS contin before and found the dilaudid to be quite effective, should I bring this up with my doctor? It just seems the pain killing in oxycodone only lasts around 2 hours before it starts up again. All your opinions would be greatly appreciated, especially personal experiences. Thanks everyone
What can I do for chronic tendonitis in my wrists? I developed tendonitis in both wrists working as a teamster in a warehouse last summer. Most of the time it's fine, but I work in an office and the typing sometimes upsets it. I also ride my bicycle everywhere rather than driving, and I get pain shooting down my wrists when I ride. I have custom splints but they are too stiff to wear when typing or riding. I prefer not to take ibuprofin or other painkillers any more often than is absolutely necessary. I plan to see my doctor about this sometime in the next couple of months, but if anyone has any short-term solutions or suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Severe Testicular Pain? So, how should I go about getting my doctor to increase the amount of oxycodone? or would I be better off asking for a different medication such as hydromorphone, opana, fentanyl or opana? I have been on hydromorphone and fentanyl once for my back pain and it worked quite well. Would appreciate your opinions on what to do now! Thanks guys
No type of pain killer or procedure works on me. Why?? Over the last 5-6 years I've developed pain in several areas of my body; upper & lower back, neck, sit-bones, wrists, etc. To be more specific... a. chronic pain between shoulder blades b. frequent low back throbbing c. constant pain at sit-bone area that spreads down back of thighs (this is the worst one, daily pain 2+ years) d. cramping in both wrists, up to elbows sometimes e. tendonitis on top of left foot I've sought medical help for all, and only saw minimal relief upfront, but pain always returned and meds or treatments no longer worked. Here were the treatments for each... a. initial treatment was 4 months of chiropractic (some relief, hard on pocket-book) – then 3 years worth of physical therapy (on and off roughly 2-3 months at a crack) b. same as “a” c. naproxen, something stronger than naproxen, 4 steroid injections by Ortho, 2 months physical therapy, iontophoresis (electro-therapy), x-ray guided steroid injections into ischial bursa, coidal epidural steroid injections, Facet joint block injection testing; which worked to prove I needed a Lumbar Radiofreqency Neurotomy (that didn’t work) d. anti-inflamitory and wrist support e. naproxen, worked for the first flare up, but never again. In addition to the above treatments I’ve also been given the following pain meds: Tylenol-3 (gives me a 12 minute rush, but never touches the pain), Valium (no “woozy”, no relaxation, no pain killer), 3 other “azepam” muscle relaxers (all worked once or twice, but not again), Skelaxin (no relief). The only thing I’ve gotten from any treatment has been sore muscles from PT, sore injection sites, and one time frostbite from sitting on an ice pack too long out of desperation. Notable facts: I am a “super” narcoleptic, according to my sleep doctor. Have the ability to fall asleep in less than 2 minutes and do directly into REM sleep – even after 8+ hours of quality sleep (per sleep study results). Take double dose of Provigil daily to stay awake, Ritalin is a backup just in case. Also, I suffer from TMJ disorder, which causes neck and jaw pain. When I have a headache I take advil or tylenol and the pain goes away in like 20 minutes. When I have a cold I take alkaseltzer or other OTC’s and feel relief to make it through the day. It’s like only certain types of pain/discomfort are receptive to treatments. The worst one is the pain in the butt – I know sounds funny right. It started a little more than 2 years ago. For the first couple months I experienced discomfort when sitting for more than 10 minutes; which i wrote off to gaining 10lbs and my body was mad at me for having to support it. The discomfort though caused more back pain as I seemed to compensate for it and soon became restless enough to stop whatever activity I was doing and go home. The docs original thought was hip bursitis, or ischial bursitis; which is common on both sides of the buttocks in people who sit on hard surface ( ie, bleachers at a football game, also called weavers’ bottom). Now I’ve been through 3 specialists + yoga + PT + massage + heat/ice, blah blah blah. I’m sick of it. I swear my brain is telling my body to keep the pain despite what I put into it. Fyi, drinking and weed also don’t relieve it – trust me i’ve tried. Anyone else experiencing this dilemma? Not necessarily the same issue, but same reaction to pain relieving measures being an absolute waist. I’m going broke here constantly in and out of ambulatory operating rooms. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Always hurting
Headaches, chronic unexplained pain, insomnia, dizziness, loss of memory...? This is my second time posting but the answers stopped coming in on my last one and no one actually seemed to have much of an idea: So I'm giving this list to the Dr. but my appointment isn't for a while so I thought I'd post here, too, to see if anyone online had advice/suggestions/etc. My Symptoms Below is a list of my symptoms. As there are many, I figured I’d just write them down in order to simplify things. 1.I often get strange, unexplained pains that seem to be “out of no where”. There are a few main spots in which bother me the most. These are: The inside of my knee, both wrists and inside the elbow, my neck, sometimes jaw or cheek bone, my hipbone, shoulder bone, top of my spine, where my back connects to my bottom, ribcage, and my fingers. 2.“Spasms” I’ve had all my life. I get a “kink” in my neck and my muscles involuntarily act on it, causing my head to go left and my shoulders to roll back. 3.Headaches, normally in the front. 4.My mouth always feels dry and I’m constantly drinking water – probably more then a “healthy” amount. 5.I often get dizzy for no apparent reason and feel like I’m going to fall over. 6.Constipation (ALL my life) 7.I’m normally very tired and achy. 8.Insomnia. 9.Weak. 10.Out of breath easily, even after only going up the stairs, sometimes my ears will be ringing. 11.Focus and memory problems. The other day I forgot my friend’s name (a good friend) and also forgot the title of my favorite song which I knew for about a year and heard on the radio every night. I always feel like I’m somewhat out of the world. It’s not being emotionally numb, so much as being physically numb. Sometimes I can’t feel certain parts of my body and lose awareness that they are still there, so to speak. 12.My senses often seem unstable. Like my vision (I wear glasses if that is relevant) will go from normal to really bad and then back. I am also very sensitive to noise, especially talking. It bothers me a lot. 13.Sensitivity to temperature, too. Sometimes if I get in the shower and it is too cold, I go into somewhat of a fit. It isn’t a mild chill, but instead I often feel like I’m about to have some form of seizure. Occasionally I’ll even fall down. It makes the pains a lot worse. 14.Stomach aches and loss of appetite. Whenever I eat, I feel sick. 15.“Crazy nerves?” I don’t know what to call it. My eye will twitch a lot or the nerves under the skin in my hand will start moving on its own. Sometimes with my eyebrows, sometimes my fingers, etc. I’ll just start twitching. 16.Grogginess. Sometimes in the mornings there is this brief “panic period” after I wake up (normally lasting only seconds) in which I can’t remember where I am. 17.Even when I do manage to sleep, I wake up more tired then before. 18.Prickly feelings in the skin, like my circulation isn’t working right. 19.I can’t remember where I was going and I’ll be in the middle of the hallway at school with no idea how I got there. 20.My chest hurts really badly. 21.Sometimes my joints crack when I’m walking and my eyes make a click sound when I blink. 22.I’ve taken headache medication and Benadryl to make me sleep but they never work. 23.Shooting pains in my stomach and legs and arms. Like it’ll start at the top and just work its way down. It’s been so much worse lately. Add On: I'm fifteen Hermone: I have a tendency to pass out and am prone to mild seizures. Also, when you have uncontrollable muscle spasms you tend to notice. You say I "worry too much" but I didn't bother to mention the little things. Everything posted above happens on a daily basis. Therefore, ignoring them would be highly unintelligent.
Chronic Pain, Moderate Spinal Stenosis, No strength in hands, herniated disc c3 -c7, Cervical Spine Reversed? I had an accident last year on March 7th 2009. I endured bulge disc on c6,7. In January I had another MRI due to severe pain, it revealed have Moderate Spinal Stenosis on c6,7, bulge disc with herniated disc on c,4,5,6,7, Facet decise on c7,T1, reversal of the lordisis. I had a nerve conducting study done two days ago, but have yet to get the results. As the doctor was conducting his nerve study( i have any strength in my hands, my fingers wrist, my elbows ankles knees, hurt every time i bump, rest or move them), he asked me if i was a diebetic, I said no, he said are you sure, and I said yes. he then asked did I have prior injuries, and I then told him my siuation. I am curios to know why he would ask me if I were diebetic, and what can be done with my situation. I went to an ortopedic but he will not make any decisions because he said the MRI was poor vision, and until I get another one, he reffered me to Aqua theorpy. I am going crazy and i also see a psychotrist....
Do i have chronic pain syndrome? I've been having joint pain for the last four years, and it got so severe that it stopped me from going out with my friends and i was barely able to move. I've been tested for several types of arthritis and spondolosis which all came back negative. I dont have an infection and the Dr's have noticed swelling in 1 elbow but nothing to suggest severe inflammation. my back is ALWAYS in pain, and my ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knuckles and jaw are on a rotation type-thing. I'm always in pain with 2+ joints and i dont know whats going on.
How to deal with daily chronic pain? My knees have ached since I was a child - the pain at first was intermittent - now in my 30s it is constant. It feels like a swarm of bees lives in my knees. Sometimes the pain radiates to my ankles and sometimes my elbows, wrists and shoulders. They diagnosed me with patellar tracking disorder so I started doing yoga and weights to build up my muscles - I did that for months and it seemed only to aggravate things. I have been on sulindac (which only slightly helps) and vicodin (which now only slightly helps). I am physically drained and grouchy and I don't know how to deal with his.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM IN CHRONIC PAIN!!!!!!!!? Help!!!!!!! The Pain Is Killing Me!!!!!!!!!!!! by jackie693, 2 minutes ago May someone give me advice. Here is my MRI and Nerve conducting study results. Do I need Pain managment? Please help.... Findings: Reversal of the normal cervical lordosis centered at the c4-5 level. Mild irregularity of the end plates of c4-c5 and c-6 seen likely degenerative in etiology. c2-3: unremarkable on the sagitlal images. c3-c4 posterior disc bulge with tiny central disc herniation and facet disease causing mild ritht foraminal narrowing. c4-c5: Posterior disc bulge with a central disc herniation and facet disease causing mild spinal stenosis at this level. Foramina appear patent. c5-c6: Posterior disc bulge with a central disc herniation mildly indentinting the ventral cord. Mild spinal canal narrowing. Foramina appear patent. c6-c7: Posterior disc bulge with a central dissc herniation indenting the ventral cord and facet disease causing moderate spinal stenosis at this level. Foramina appear patent. c7-T1 facet disease causing mild left andmoderate frght foraminal stenosis. This is likely secondary to an osteophyte. Impression: Multilevel spondylosis superimposed upon reversal of normal cervical lordosis causing moderate spinal stenosis at the c6-c7 level as well as mild spinal stenosis at the c5-6 and c4-c5 levels. Foraminal stenosis as described above. There is facet disease causing probable moderate right facet disease at the c7-T1 level. My Nerve conducting study read: Borderline slow sensory nerve conduction veiocity noted in the first, second and third finger-wrist and palm-wrist segments of both median nerves. Boredrline prolonged terminal latency noted in the left median nerve. Normal sensory and motor NCV's with normal amplitudes noted in the other segments of tested nerves of both upper extremities. Tested nerves include both median, right ulnar and the right radial sensory. Conclusion: The above findings are compatible with minimal bilateral carpel tunnel syndrome. The electrical findings are minor, and essentially confined to the sensory segments only. The remainder of the nerve conduction data is normal. Diognosis: Evaluate for neuropathy/entrapment syndrome
What is this chronic pain in my arm? I'm 17 and a boy. Im very healthy and eat well, but today I've had a bad shar pain inside of my right arm, extending from almost the back of my neck, all the way down to my wrist. It hurts so much and I have no idea what it is. It started off at just my forearm this morning, but spread to the other areas. Is this growing pain, or what?
Need explanation for chronic joint pain.? I have chronic joint pain. The pain is present in nearly all joints - ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers. The worst pain occurs in my knees. I have taken a myriad of pain killers and NSAIDs. Currently, I am on Vicodin, Meloxicam, Cymbalta, and Gabapentin. With these drugs, the pain is held constant at a 7. Without any medication, the pain is unbearable. I have seen several specialists, and none have been able to provide an explanation. Bone scan was clean, MRI was clean, X-rays are clean, Echo was clean. Blood tests all came back good - liver, kidney, cbc. Lyme disease was negative. Uric Acid level normal. Not auto immune, lupus. I need help finding out why I have the pain. What is causing it, and what is the solution?
Answers from neurologists or craniosacral doctors please? Okay well my brother has seizures. We've had an EEG and he is not epileptic. He has these seizures out of pain, and when he does, he is in the worst pain imaginable. He has chronic pain in his wrist (which is where the seizures hurt the most) and the pain is so bad that during the seizures he literally tries to end his life. He cannot control them, and every doctor weve been to says that theyve never seen anything like it. It's getting worse and worse every day, and now he passes out about 3 times a week. It's unimaginable. The doctors say that if the pain continues he'll eventually become mentally retarded. Any diagnosis would be appreciated??
Chronic Back Pain Problems, Therapeutic excersises? I have had back pain for over two years now. It starts in my lower left hand side shoots up my spine, into my neck and jaw, down my arm into my wrist, pinky, ring, and middle finger, it also goes down my leg and makes my foot numb. This is all only in my let side. I have been to numerous doctors trying to find the answer. I have scoliosis, 26 degrees (L1-L5) curve and a 45 degree twist. I have been told this is not enough to cause any pain. I have had MRIs on my back, neck and brain in search for a pinched nerve or tumor, none were found. It is muscular and I am going to start going to rehab and I wanted to know if anyone else had this problem, being the doctors are puzzled that the pain shoots up. (Nerves cant run up they can only run down, why we think it is muscular) I am very active and I run. At first we thought that it could be running related and we cut my running from 6 days a week to 3 and swam on the off days. After keeping a pain journal we found there is no correlation to running whatsoever. The pain is very sporadic and comes at random times. I still have a little bit left to grow (I am 5'9" and grew very quickly probably has something to do with it), but not much at all. I have done physical therapy and have kept it up. If anyone has any good escersises that would be wonderful! Thank You! Anything will be of help!
I have chronic pain, why cant it be diagnosed? I was diagnosed with hiv about 5 years ago and about 4 years ago I noticed a tingling /cold moving up my leg and around my body that came to rest around my right arm. Well, a few days later I could barley lift my right hand bc the pain in my elbow. This pain went on for about 2 years and every time I mention it to anyone or any doctor they look at me like I'm crazy. After working out one day and working through the pain, I noticed it was gone. The next day the same type of pain was in my left ankle and it was horrible. The pain stayed there for about a week and moved up into my left wrist and stayed there about 3 months. With this pain there is a numbing area of the skin around the painful area. then one day my right began to twitch really bad for about a week. Then this terrible pain behind my eye shows up that starts behind my eye and covers the right side of my head. I think there is some kinda virus in my tendons that travels around my body when agravaded but it seems to have made my eye it's home. I have told numerous doctors my story and no one knows what it is and even worse I cant get anyone to write me a prescription for the pain. absolutly NO OTC drugs will dull the pain . I have actually had to act as a junky and begin a program at the local Methadone Clinic because I just cant stand the pain anymore and no one believes that I am in pain. I just wish someone could identify my symtoms so I can finnally be free of this. can anyone help?
Do you have experience with this type of chronic pain? I had a car accident in 12/2008. My right ankle was reconstructed (4 plates - 1 screws), my right wrist fracture was put back together with 3 plates - 9 screws and I have 2 rods in my lower back where 5 vertebrae are fused together. For everything that I have gone through I have very little residual (24/7) pain. Mine increases over a period of 2-4-6 hours depending on activity. For example: We have handicap license plates. Some times we use the privilege and sometimes not. We will save the handicap spot at church/restaurant for someone who really needs it 24/7 since it is a quick activity alternating stand-walk-sit etc. Walmart is a different story. Going in I almost feel bad as if I am taking the spot from someone who really needs it. Then after we walk/stand around for 2 hours on hard flooring my ankle and back start to throb. Upon leaving Walmart I have transformed into the guy who really deserves to be in the handicap spot. Another example. I try to be reasonably active. Over a 3 month period I prepared to walk a 5k (3.1 miles). The loop I walk is .5miles so 6 laps is like walking a 5k. By myself: Lap 1 no problem. Lap 2 ok lets go for 1 more. Lap 3 ok I 'm done. When I go with my comical walking partner he takes my mind of it and changes to lap 4 no problem, lap 5 ok 1 more and lap 6 - Rob your a very funny guy but I am done. I can't concentrate on his jokes with the throb in my foot. I stay away from cortisone shots and only do the hydrocodone once to twice a month taken proactively before a trip with some excessive standing/walking etc. Normally I just stop walking & sit for a while and the pain turns to discomfort and then dissipates. However, I have not worked in 22 months. The don't stand or sit or walk too long method of pain management has worked well for me during my rehabilitation but as I have been simulating a full day at work I am just totally wiped out by the end of the day. I am not sure how I am going to hold down a 40 hr/week job. Does anyone else experience this type of activity induced chronic pain? I am open to all serious responses. Thanks in advance.

Chronic Pain in Legs? Anyone Know What's Going On? For years I've been having pain in my legs and sometimes my arms. The best way I can describe the pain is like "growing pains" only much more painful. I started having these pain when I was in elementary school [I'm a Senior in highschool now]. They're not constant, but every once in a while, maybe even every week [it's gotten so that sometimes I don't even notice it], this pain starts radiating from my lower leg [most often my right], and starts slowly traveling down towards my ankle and up towards my knee. The pain is really deep in my leg, and sometimes it lasts for several minutes, sometimes an hour. Sometimes the pain is mild enough that it causes discomfort, but I can still go on with my life. Sometimes the pain is very severe, and the only way to relieve it is by tying a bandage tightly around it [pressure is the only way to ease the pain]. My pain is NOT affected by walking or moving my leg. It hurts the same whether I'm sitting or standing. Sometimes it's in one leg, sometimes in both, and sometimes it's in my arms. When it's in my arms, it usually starts just below the elbow, and radiates down towards my wrist. I have gone to a sports medicine doctor several years ago, and they took x-rays and did some blood work, but said that there was absolutely nothing wrong. Like I said, this has been going on for years, and it doesn't really affect me the way it did when I was younger [several times the pain was so severe that I would be screaming and crying]. I don't think it's anything too serious, I'd just like to know what's going on. Also, could this be classified as chronic pain? Or is that something completely different? Thank-you so much to anyone who takes the time to read all of this and tries to help me! I really do appreciate it ^_^ [EDIT]: Oh, and the pain doesn't really affect my joints. It's more of the area between them. @Douglas: Hmm, I do have lower back problems. I never thought that maybe thoes thigns were connected.
Will i be able to get a medical marihuana card? I am currently 15 years old, I have chronic pain from a once broken wrist, it hurts and pains me every day, not to cake things on but I also have a problem with my jaw which permits me to sleep, I also am sure I suffer from add. Will I be able to get a medical marihuana card with a parental signature?
Had serious injury, but don't have chronic pain on record for Medical Marijuana? Okay, I had a serious injury 5 years ago that completely broke both bones in my wrist and required surgery and a metal plate + 5 screws. The x-rays on record are pretty graphic. How ever I have never gone to the doctor for chronic pain or have had a diagnosis put on record. There are many listed qualifications that cannabis helps me with, from occasional depression, pain/comfort and a pretty bad case of delayed sleep phase syndrome (very similar to insomnia). How ever the injury to my arm is the only thing I have on record, and I never go to the doctor unless I absolutely have to. Soon I'm going in to go get prescribed in WASHINGTON state for Medical Marijuana. Is the record of my arm injury enough to prove I suffer from chronic pain, and have the specialist write me a prescription? Or will I have to go in and get my chronic pain diagnosed?
causes of chronic wrist pain? it seems that i always have wrist pain before or after i get my period. usually it is in my left wrist, but this time it is in my right. is there any cure for this? any method of help? thanks
Sharp pain on pinky-side of wrist-- Carpal Tunnel? I understand that carpal tunnel usually affects the thumb side of the hand/wrist because that is where the median nerve is located. I have a chronic, sharp pain on the opposite side of my wrist. I am a pianist and a cellist, so those may be a contributing factor. Could this be carpal tunnel? Some form of arthritis? Either way, this sucks... I'm only 16.
chronic neck pressure, pain: result of ballroom dancing or Lyme disease ? My health problems started at the age of 17 yr. with a strange neck/head pressure, it's like your back of your head is being pressed with some kinda mechanism. As this feeling came, many other came along : head/neck pressure, severe memory loss, concentration problems, over-hole brain function disturbance, eye floaters, tight neck/shoulders and right shoulder blade, sometimes one or the other hand numb at night or wrist, chronic fatigue, rushing fluid sound in my occipital area(like champagne bubbles exploding) when i wake up. I have done a lot of tests and visited a lot of doctors. i had lyme disease about 13 yr. ago, but as i had it i didn't feel any changes, just had a recommended dose of antibiotics and that was it. three yr, ago a had a WB test and it was positive on IGM, my doctor took spinal fluid from my body and sad it was fine, so my lyme was not taking as a concern, despite the igm positive. So i left it. Can lyme disease strike after seven yr and generate symptoms which more or less are in the same condition continuing 7 yr or it should have been worsening as yr. pass? Or i should stick to the ballroom version? Sorry, for my english i' from a little country in Europe :) please help me, PEACE Dalius
Chronic Wrist Pain...? So, I've had two surgeries on my right wrist in two years; one to remove a ganglion cyst and arthroscopy, in which they found synovitis and a partial torn ligament. My last surgery was November 2010, so it's been five months but I still have the same exact pain as before. Besides the surgery, I've take NSAID's, done physical therapy, dexamethasone iontophoresis, worn wrist braces and had one cortisone injection. Literally nothing has worked. I have pain with extension and flexion. It's also difficult to lift things, even grocery bags. The pain is concentrated on the left side of my wrist (my thumb side) and there's pain with palpation on the dorsal side of my wrist. I did gymnastics for about six years but I quit over 12 years ago... So I have no idea what could be attributing to the pain, as I'm just a college student and don't use my wrist unlike anyone else would in their daily life. Please let me know if you can maybe tell me what could be wrong with my wrist! I'm so sick of the pain, I want it fixed!
Sudden chronic shoulder pain... HELP? I slept on the floor at a friends house the other night, like 3 days ago, and have been experiencing extreme pain in my right should ever since. It reminds me of the overpowering aching/sharp pain of when i sprained my wrist, but obviously less painful. When i hold up my arm with my other hand, like as if i had a sling, it helps the pain. When i let my arm hang it hurts reeeeally bad. When I get up in the morning, or if I stay still for a period of time, its significantly worse than if I'm doing things during the day. When I lift my arms it definitely hurts. The pain extends from the bottom of my neck to the top curve of my shoulder. What could this be, and how do I stop it?? Any advice is welcome and greatly appreciated!!
Chronic wrist pain, probably minor carpel tunnel but is there anything I can do to make my wrists stronger? I'm only 18 but I spend a lot of time on the computer. When I'm not on a computer i'm playing basketball, eating, brushing n shaving, playing videogames, and working out. Haha ok I made that list sort of specific to activities that use your wrist, but the pain in my wrists is really starting to limit me. I only know of a couple wrist stretches to encourage bloodflow and stretch the tendons, I also could use heating or icing but I don't think its that big of a deal and...I hate heating and icing injuries.
very bad pain all he time, please any help ill be greatfull? Rite ok so I'm going to sound like a real bad hyprocondriact (im 16 years old female) Were do I start, in 2009 I went to a&e with servere wrist pain, jaw pain, ect... I had it from a young age and thought it mite of been sothing to do with me spraining my wrists a LOT when I was younger. The doctor done some tests and was abit confused, he thought he felt a bone missing in me thumb area, after xrays they said nothing was wrong (could they be wrong as they put me in splints and i have to wear them now and then when the pain gets too bad)... im not sure why exactly but I was refered to a consultant, physio thearapest and counceller. Now nearly 2 years on, I have been attending these sessions every 4 weeks I don't feel much of a diffrence in the pain perspective, but I do feel like a diffrent person more held back, depressed, nasty and i cry allot, my pain has spread alover my body and i experiance it every day. for eg. ankles - i have a flat foot and that may be why i am in so much pain when i walk knees - now, i walk with my knees locked back asif i am leaning forward with my bum stuck out ( i realy dont know why or were this came from) hips - they sometimes feel like my hip is out of place back - this is constant pain all over my back ( when i sleep/lay on my back there is quite a large arch in my back - possibly to do with the way i stand) shoulders - i sometimes get a verry sharp pain in my left shoulder, mostly when i am stressed. alot more areas get akes and pains... I was diagnosed with chronic musculoskeletal pain And proscribed Amitriptyline but this gives me terrible night mares and shakes of a morning. I told this to my doctor and she gave me melanomen I get real bad migranes all the time (ive had a mri scan to rule out anything magor) i am tierd and feel like ive ran a marathon allot and also get bad bad depression, i can be verry happy one moment and the next i will get so down i will just want to cry in a room on my own and sleep....I feel helpless For the past 10 months or so I am kept up with a terrible pain in my clafs like I have elastic bands wraped around my ankles and knees, they only gett better if I move around and place them in a cold place... I also get verry bad cramp in my clafs I don't know if its connected but I also have verry heavy bleeding (periods) every other week for about 10 days! this has been like this since i was 10 years old... i am so like my nan in every way, and she has alot of illness' like arthiritus fibromyalga ect... shes only 54, i have asked the doctor about these things but she said my body is fine and its all in my head. I just don't know what to do anymore my family call me a hyprocondriact but I'm not! I need help...Its also like my doctors don't belive me! I don't know why I'm asking on here but I just need help! or anything that will make me feel better..... thanks for any help you can provide me with

Please Help: Chronic Shoulder Pain? For the past 1 and half years, I have been dealing with chronic shoulder pain. It started on the top of the shoulder, but now starts at the top of my shoulder blade and shoots down into my wrist and fingers. I've been to 3 different doctors and had various diagnoses: -Rotator Cuff Tendonitis (secondary condition, and all three have told me this) -Shoulder Sublexation -Shoulder Sprain -Torn Rotator Cuff All diagnoses (except the tendonitis) have been proven wrong. I know I did this playing softball. I've had x rays, physical therapy, MRIs, cortisone, increased physical activity, no physical activity. A lot of times it keeps me up at night. Doctors look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them it still hurts after this long. Please, I know you're not doctors, but I need help! 1.Has anyone had an experience like this? 2.What does this sound like to you? 3.If I were to go back to the doctors, do you think they would reccomend like exploratory surgery or something? I know I should go back but I'm scared.... Please, I'm only 13, I can't deal with this for another 80 years!!!
Chronic Severe pain in the bones of my wrist? I've had severe pain in my wrist bones for a while now. I had hit my left wrist on a metal chair and suddenly my right wrist started hurting. I've had 2 xrays and no signs of RA, fractures or breaks. The pain is getting worse little by little in my right wrist and I don't know what more I can do. Does anyone have any theories as what it may be?
Wrist pain thumb side? I have been suffering chronic pain on my wrist thumb side of my right hand. It doesn't hurt as much if i rotate my thumb. But there is a very sharp pain (wrist thumb side) if i try to move or place my thumb inward, as in tucking my thumb in a fist. In fact, I cannot even put my thumb inside my fist or move my thumb more than 1 cm inwards. It even hurts my wrist just making a fist with the thumb outside of the fist. I have went to the doctor and had blood work and Xray. Neither test showed any problems at all. The Doctor think its wrist tendonitis so i was sent home to rest. It has been months and still no improvement. Is there any other disease associated with this symptom?
Complicated chronic wrist complaint? If any one can shed any light on this, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks. 18 months ago i started to have occasional wrist pain. For about 1 week out of every 2 months i would have very severe wrist pain whenever i bent my wrist. I couldn't eat with the wrist, wash my hair etc. But when i held my wrist still, it was completely painless. Recently the occurance of these episodes has increased to about 1 week a month. And i have a degree of pain all the time when i bend my wrist (e.g i can't lift myself up/press ups etc) It never ever feel pain when my wrist is still. I had a blood test and x ray about 10 months ago that were all good, except the consultant said the long bone in my arm (the outer one) (ulna?) was unusually long. I also had an ultrasound sbout 3 months ago which only showed a little swelling. I have an MRI appontiment in about 5 weeks. I am just worried that i am going to have miss time off work in my new job. (Btw, i have never injured/broke my wrist, and i am only 17.) No history of illness. In fact i had never been to the doctors besides compulsory injections prior to this. Thanks!
Would surgery be an option for my broken wrist ? I broke my left wrist in may of 2011 playing rugby. The break deals with the movement of my thumb and part of my radial bone in my forearm. I got my cast off sometime in late June early July, after i had the cast off for a month i was still suffering from chronic pain from my wrist. Recently I have just re-broken it at the beginning of september. I have had this cast on for 5 weeks and i am getting it off on thursday, my doctor had told me that when the cast comes off and if I am still in pain that we were going to discuss surgery. I play tons of sports and I need to movement of my wrist, I have been told by multiple people that if I get the surgery done that I wont have full movement in my wrist and it will prevent me from playing sports all together. From what I know right now the surgery involves a metal pin going through all of the bones to keep them together and to prevent me from breaking it a 3rd time. Please if you know anything or have any stories about friends who have had this surgery please please please share with me, I need to find out as much as I can! Thanks everybody!!! :)

I have had chronic wrist pain since I injured in March 2009.? I can't beat any weight on it in the flexed position palm down or palm up. I have no problem with mobility, but after three years of not being able to do a push up, lean over, and push my self up in bed with my right wrist I am getting slightly annoyed. I have had xrays and they were fine. What else could be the problem?
