diagnose my ankle pain please? so today i was at track practicing high jump, and we were doing this thing where you run up like you were going to jump, and then jump on the mat, so as usual i jumped up on the mat and it was fine. then, to get off the mat, i jumped, but instead of landing perfectly fine on the ground, i jumped and my left foot landed on a shoe, the shoe moved, my foot landed sideways on the outside of it, then my ankle gave out and i scraped my knee. now my ankle hurts, it hurts to flex and point my foot, around my ankle on the inside of my leg hurts. its swollen. i can put weight on my foot but i have to limp, otherwise it hurts. what is wrong with my ankle?
How long will the pain from a sprained ankle continue? It's been roughly two days since I sprained my ankle. I've already gone to the doctor, and they diagnosed it as a second to third degree sprain. Right now, it hurts to the point that I cannot concentrate on my job. The pain killers the doctors prescribed also doesn't seem to get the job done. Roughly, how long would it take for this pain to lessen?
I have pain on the inside of my ankle, no swelling, and it hurts when I go down the stairs, but not up stairs. I have pain on the inside of my ankle. There is no swelling or redness. I have noticed that it does not hurt going up stairs, only going down stairs and to a lesser degree, just walking on level ground. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in other joints. Is it possible that this is more of the same?
ankle, heel pain and charley horses? I have ankle pain and pain in the bottom of my foot along with having charley horses during the night. I did go to a foot doctor that diagnosed plantar fasciitis and gave me a cortesone shot. It did relieve the pain in my arch but did nothing for the other pain. Could someone recommend what type of doctor to visit? e.g neurologist, podiatrist etc?
Sprained Ankle - pain at top and bottom of foot?? Two weeks ago, I took my son to the er. Rolled his foot during soccer, heard a pop, and could not put any weight on it. ER took xray's of both ankles and could not determine a fracture so diagnosed sprain. He could limp around after a couple of days, got almost to correct walking within 4.... But the progress stops there. He now has pain on top of his foot going straight down to the bottom of his foot. Also has pain in the achillis?? area. His idiotic gym teacher is asking when he's going to start participating again since a "sprain" should only take a few days to heal and it's been 2 weeks. Any ideas?? I'm concerned since the pain is not in his ankle that he could have an undiagnosed fracture?? Weird is that it never turned blue or really swelled that badly. Was doing rice, but stopped after the swelling went down. Is still taking ibuprofen and is not doing his sports activities. I've got an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. Hopefully we'll find out more then, but his goofy gym teacher needs to be smacked :) He's not complaining about a burning sensation. Also, hurts to touch the are still.

help me on diagnosing my ankle!? Do i have a sprained ankle or a fractured ankle? I landed on the side of my foot after i jumped to block a basketball shot. I could put pressure on that foot and still walk with some pain. Now, its been around 17 hours and i can't really walk because if i do, i think it'll worsen the foot and i have much pain when i tried. is my ankle fractured or sprained?
Can someone help with diagnosing an ankle injury? Okay here is my situation, I'm coming up on my senior year as a high school runner and am very paranoid about getting my ankle checked out, so I'm trying to figure out how serious this really is. About an hour before my 1500m race on saturday, i was descending stairs and when i stepped down i felt a pain on the inner side of my right ankle. Motion in my foot is not restricted at all. When i begin running, the pain remains for the first 5-10 minutes and then subsides, so i was able to stay loose and warmed up enough to compete in my race. I ran a 4:09 for the 1500m which is very close to my pr, so I can still run the same, it just hurts at the beginning. Last night about 36 hrs after the incident i noticed a bruise had formed between the ball of my ankle on the heel and the inside. I'm just trying to avoid, x-rays, casts, crutches, and figure out If i have something serious like a fracture to deal with, or will it subside in a few days.
Ok, i have been diagnosed with a pinched nerve in my ankle caused by my high arch, pain not going away.? i was diagnosed with a pinched nerve caused by my high arch... he told me that i was tight in the foot area also. he told me to do stretcheswhich are in the morning before i get out of bed, i have to get a towel and stretch my foot back. and then i have to put my foot straight up on the wall, and put my weight on it as hard as i can for 10 seconds. i have to do that 20 times a day. this stuff is not helping much at all. i am also not allowed to wear my ankle brace any more at all, because you're not supposed to wear a brace more than 3 weeks and i wore mine for 3 months!! oopsies! as i said, i am still in a bunch of pain. i am going to the podiatrist again tomorrow to see how i am doing, but how do i releive this pain in the mean time? i think i am going to sleep on the couch tonight cause i can't get up stairs! LOL so i just want to get up stairs. what should i do to ease the pain?
Knee Ankle and Wrist pain? I have had knee pain since I was a child - the doctors diagnosed me as having arthritis. The pain was very sporadic and normally went away with a couple of tylenol. I am now in my mid 30s and the pain is extreme - I went to the dr and they diagnosed me with Patellar Tracking Disorder but the pain is not just in my knees - it is in my wrists and ankles. They want me to be on the highest dosage of Ibuprofen which makes me feel sick and really doesn't even cut into the pain. So they gave me Sulindac - makes me feel sleepy and doesn't help either. The only thing that takes a big edge off the pain is strong pain meds. I think this may be more than just Patellar Tracking Disorder - but no clue what else. Thoughts?
Diagnosing Knee irritation from running? Tendons or knees? I run about 3 miles at a time. 90% of the time after a mild workout at Ballys using weight machines. I believe that the 1/2 hour workout and a couple laps before running gets me plenty warmed up. Besides an occational ankle pain, I have noticed some sensitivity above each of my knees. The sensitivity really doesn't feel like pain, but maybe an awareness. Is it possible that my leg lifts have improved my muscles enough for me to feel differently when standing? Could I have abused the tendon between the thigh muscle and the knee? I feel like when I am standing, I need to lock my knees to avoid this sensation. I stretch after running. Any ideas?
What would scar tissue look like on an ankle MRI? I just got an MRI done on my ankle because the doctor suspects scar tissue causing problems from an ankle sprain. I do not recall injuring my foot, but my ankle has been swollen and any prolonged weight put on my ankle causes swelling. I am almost always in pain. I am a runner and athletic and was diagnosed with a stress fracture around December '09. Physical therapy has not helped. I have the MRI cd, what should I look for that's not normal?
Please help, leg and back pain? Hi. I recently have been having pains in my lower back. I am used to pain and usually don't complain ( I dance a lot and have random foot and ankle pains too, ) but these really hurt! They shoot into my back at random times, and it hurts when I walk a lot. Please help me figure out what this is, I do lots of running and dancing and don't want it to get in the way! Also, I have been having pains in the arch of my feet, and around my ankles. Please help diagnose what this is, Thank you! =] P.S. no I'm not flat footed =] uhh no I'm not really flexible. I can only do my left split. lol... but about the dimples thing, it hurts when I push them in.
Does an injury like twisting your ankle hurt longer for patients with lupus than in healthy people? Does the joint pain that comes with lupus affect this? I may be diagnosed soon and I twisted my ankle last week and it's not a bad twist (I play soccer, I know ankle injuries) but it still hurts when I move it. Normally it would hurt for like 1-2 max but it's still a pain a week later. It's not even bruised, so I'm just wondering. i meant 1-2 days* max sorry
I have tendonitis in my right ankle. How long of a heal? In May I got diagnosed with tendonitis in my right ankle. It's always hurting and I have to go to physcial therapy for it. Will the pain ever go away? If so how long?
i was diagnosed with Popliteus Tendonitis, but it hurts all the way down to my ankle. why? its only supposed to hurt in my knee, but i experience pain down to my ankle.
I got kicked on my the outer part of my calf about 3 inches above my ankle bone. Diagnose me please :)? I was playing soccer and I got kicked in the outer part of my calf. It hurt but i carried on playing. As time passed by during the game the pain became more prominent. It began to swell so i iced the area. 2 days have passed and i still feel the pain when I apply weight on my leg. Its not so bad but the more I use it the worse the pain gets.
Foot and ankle pains - flat feet? About a year and a half ago I suffered ankle pains in my right foot. I thought this was caused by jogging because the pain went up the back of my ankle and down to my big toe. Having visited the Doctor's I was diagnosed with Achilles tendon 5 months ago. I attended physiotherapy sessions until my term finished at University. Now during my summer at home I have had lower back pains and sometimes a pain going up my calve in my right leg. But I also now have pains in both of my feet - on the outside of my ankle. My dad pointed out that I tend to walk inwards slightly, and that I have flat feet. Could this be the cause of the pain in my ankles? I find it uncomfortable to walk - if I am walking all day for a few days I often end up limping sometimes because of my right ankle. I'd dread that to happen with both! Please could you give me some advice on where to go from here? I have tried booking an appointment with the Doctor at home but because I am at University they have taken me off the list - and they said it is unethical for me to have a second opinion. Would I be best to visit the local hospital?
Sprained ankle, foot, and achilles tendinitis? I was diagnosed with a sprained ankle, sprained foot, and achilles tendinitis on Monday. I have been wearing an Aircast and wrapping to foot to reduce the swelling. I am already feeling slightly better and I was wondering if I was healing already or if maybe I have just gotten used to the pain? I don't plan on taking the brace off anytime soon, but when can I stop wrapping my ankle?
Anyone have help with severe arthritis pain? My husband has been diagnosed with psoriactic arthritis, which means he has psoriasis in his joints and the pain is unbelievable in his feet, ankles and wrists and hands. We have been to rheumatologists and have had several kinds of prescription but nothing has helped. Now they want to try some injections which will cost 1000 dollars a month and is not covered by our insurance. Anyone who has had similiar experience and found some relief please tell me....Serious answers only please..I am desperate to find him some relief. Thank you.
Could anyone diagnose the problem in my ankle? Yesterday, I was jumping on the trampoline when I jumped off and my foot/ankle landed sideways (the side of my foot hit the ground instead of my the bottom of it). Right then, I got extreme pain in my ankle and It became very difficult to walk on it. No swelling or bruising occurred, just the extreme pain that I have. The pain is the worst around my anklebone and continues to my toe and up to my knee. I have a soccer tournament tomorrow, and I can't let my team down. I can't make it to the orthopedics today because they are closed. Could Anyone diagnose the problem and tell me what I should and can do based on the problem? Thanks so much!
diagnose my basketball injury (ankle, lower outer leg)? I was playing basketball and I think I just came down on it wrong. At first, I thought my ankle was the problem, then after a nights rest that healed. It was just tender when it happened and now it is fine. I can fully rotate my ankle with no pain. However, 6 days later, it is still tender to push on the muscle in my lower leg. I have tried looking what it is online, but have had no luck. This is my right leg. The tenderness to push on it starts about midway down my lower leg, immediately to the right (on the outside of the leg) of the shin bone. It then continues down to the right-most point on that leg. The tender zone goes down as far as about the top of an ankle brace. I was playing basketball yesterday and came down on it again and it started to flair up and kinda hurt again. It is nothing unbearable, but it feels weak if I am cutting left (pushing left off my right foot). I just don't want to be that idiot who has early signs, then pushes to hard and now is out for weeks. thx just out of curiousity are there any guesses as to what i sprained then?
pain management question... please god let there be a good answer? I am going to try to sum up everything it's a bit complicated but here is my medical history 1/08- kicked a door i thought was slightly ajar( but wasn't). Sprained ankle. Swelling and pain did not stop. Had 4 x-rays, 1 MRI, and an ultrasound ( checking for DTV) they al showed nothing. PCP told me it was just a bad sprain and told me to use ice ans sent me with percocet 5/325 then was switched to lortab 10/500.. This went on for about 6-7 months when I realized this is just not helping so I gave up talking to him about it.The swelling and pain never went away. Seen another doctor recently and he diagnosed me with Complex regional Pain syndrome. I am going to see a pain specialist June 30th. I was in a car accident in December 2008. I had an MRI done 2 months ago showing a bulging disc. Had facet joint injections done almost a week and a half ago. Did not help the pain a bit. I have been on Lortab 10/500 for back pain since the day after the accident. The medication just does not seem to work as well as it used to. Ok now the ? part. I was wondering should I have my records transfer to the pain clinic for my back also, because it is chronic pain too. Do you think they will treat the pain better there? Will they give me stronger medications so the pain is under controlled. any answer is appreciated.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalagia after a car accident. Any pain management suggestions? I'm trying to determine alternative pain management ideas that are not to expensive. Pain goes from mild aching to acute stabbing and piercing jolts of pain effecting me from both my feet, ankles, knees, elbows, ribs, upper back and neck and wrists this typically prevents me from performing routine daily activties. I am on meds for pain managment but hope to integrate techniques or treatment to help reduce the pain I deal with?
Help diagnose knee pain? i was born with a bone disorder in which the bone under the knee cap grows outward rather than up causing massive pain when walking or sitting, the pain has spread down the shin to the ankle preventing me from most activity for more than an hour at any given time. i think the disorder is called osgood slaughters disease but all the web sites say it only occurs in children ages 11-15 and i am 20 going on 21 anybody have a similar problem or knows what this is called please any information is greatly appreciated ps: no money for doctor!
joint pain in ankles and knees? am 24 years old and about 6 months ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism due to autoimmunity. For the last 3 weeks I have had moderate joint pain in both ankles and knees. In the morning when I get up I feel like I can barely walk. My ankles are stiff and it feels like to bones in my feet are throbbing. Could this be due to my thyroid problem or is it something else? anyone experience this?
How much money can I expect from my settlement in my car accident? I was a victim of a head on collison in 05-04 a pick up truck had crossed over the median of a two lane highway coming from the opposite direction I suffered many back injuries including herniated discs, and bulging discs, severe neck pain, a torn ligament in my ankle, and was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. Perhaps the most major thing was my head went through the windshield causing me to have permanent disfigurement to my forhead... I have a dent in my forhead that will not go away without surgery. With plastic surgery it will only leave me with another scar even worse then the one I have, Its something that will be there for the rest of my life. the driver was 100% at fault. Car was demolished. My lawyer said were asking for 100-150,000 my mother is freaking because she says that, that is not enough, I could have died and truthfully I have all these things i will have to deal with for the rest of my life and im only 24. I believe that I should be getting more. FYI I was wearing my seatbelt - And if you ever had any type of car accident it could be very traumatic I have nightmares about it, and cannot drive in the rain. I was not at fault in the accident so the negative comments I really dont appreciate.
Help me Diagnose my ankle injury!!! please help? Ever since the end of my soccer season (fall), my ankle has been hurting. I dont remember any specific injuries, although it is possible as i did injure both ankles minorly throughout the season. They both just needed to be taped for a couple of weeks and i was find. But that was different pain then this. Randomly, the front of my ankle, right where the foot and leg meet, there is severe pain when i plant and push off to walk. It feels extremely loose and i can barely put pressure on it when it is at its worst. It almost feels like I need to crack it, but never can. Often it occurs after working out. It helps by wearing ankle braces when playing soccer now and while working out, but it still hurts after. I have no idea what this could be, but someone please help!
Help me diagnose knee pain? when i was born i could not crawl i would only lay on my stomach and pull myself forward, then when it was time to walk i couldn't so they took me to the doctor to find out why, the doctor told everyone that there was a bone disorder called osgood slaughter disease in which the bone under the knee cap grows outward rather than up causing massive pain when walking or sitting, now the pain has spread down the shin to the ankle preventing me from most activity for more than an hour at any given time. and so i thought the disorder was called osgood slaughter disease but all the web sites say it only occurs in children ages 11-15 and i am 20 going on 21 anybody have a similar problem or knows what this is called please any information is greatly appreciated ps: no money for doctor and does anybody know of a free clinic in san antonio that will help with finding me a job that works around my knee disorder because i know that most jobs don't want to hire somebody for a disability job without medical proof
What do you think is wrong with my legs? I have a burning pain from the knee down going to my ankle, a sharp pain where my bones come together, a sore pain on the sides, and large sacks of inflammation around the knee. My pain scale is a 8 or 9 and the xray at most shows a small amount of calcium. No other scans were done over a 3 year period and all pain killers have quit working. What is most likely the real diagnoses?
Please diagnose my sprained ankle? Thanks? Hi: On Sunday (almost a week ago), when I was playing soccer, my ankle gave out and I heard a crack sound and I fell down on the ground. The pain wasn't A LOT but it was very numb and I couldn't walk for about 3-4 minutes. I did the really smart thing of going back into the game and ran on it and was "okay" for a while. After the game, I noticed I had trouble walking and I "limped" back. With some examination, there is noticable swelling (but not bruising yet) there. On Friday (just yesterday), I played Badminton for two hours and I didn't sprain it or anything but during the game, felt pain. But yet, I still continued to play. Now, when I take off my shoe, I notice blue and "red" bruising, and I also begin to notice that I'm having trouble walking "normally" again. Please diagnose my condition. Will I get better? or am I worsening it? Thanks Some notes: Ankle sprains are not new to me. This would be probably my fourth or five sprain, and probably my third or fourth sprain on my right ankle. Yes, I sprained my left ankle too! Thanks!
Help me diagnose my ankle!? I play right tackle on the football team and i was blocking and our middle line backer fell on my ankle and my ankle went out and i heard a pop. My ankle got swollen and still is and it has been like a month now. When move my ankle forward it hurts and sometimes it pops and it feels better for alittle while but its so sensitive if i gets touched or twisted slightly the pain is horrible!! I can't walk on it it hurts so bad but eventually the pain goes back down. I can run ok on it its just when i go side to side that's when it hurts! So if you got any idea it would be great apprectaited :) Thanks for your time :) I have not been to the Doctor yet either becasue i am afraid of the worse
Question regarding joint pain upon finishing supscription medications (Naproxen and Levaquin)? My knees and ankles are in pretty serious pain. I was told it was a side effect of the drugs (probably the Naproxen). Is this normal? How long can it last? How can I help it heal? You can answer the question using the above details but if you really know what your talking about and want more info, please read on.... I went to the hospital on March 3rd for a fever of 104 and a rash that caused a lot of swelling in my left ankle along with red spots. I stayed 3 nights and was never officially diagnosed with anything. I was given Levaquin and Naproxen and finished both of my subscriptions after about 7-10 days. Two side effects came a few days after finishing the medications. A stomach ulcer and joint pain. The stomach ulcer is being treated now with Nexium. The joint pain was in my elbows, wrists, ankles, and knees. It is no longer bothering my wrists or elbows but my knees and ankles are in incredible pain. I also have cramping in my calves. Can anyone offer any advice? My knees hurt walking up and down stairs. My right knee hurts A LOT when I am just sitting and I need to get up and walk around to ease the pain. My ankles and calves ache when I walk (they basically feel like I played basketball all day or ran a marathon the day before), it is just a sore/aching pain. I haven't done any physical activity in about 3 weeks. Will these pains just work their way out in a few days?
Can a sprain ankle be a catalyst for bone cancer? Im male, 29 yo, no personal history of any cancer at all, low cholesterol, slightly elevated BP, health body weight, I work out about 3-4 times a week, now about 1 with this crap going on. About 2 months ago I sprained my ankle. Probably a grade II based on researched symptoms. I was able to walk back to my car fine after running on the trail in the woods where I got hurt immediately following injury. Typical swelling and all that. I have a familiy history of cancer, my Aunt died at 35 of ovarian, my grandmother (moms side) has a form of blood cancer that is smoldering, my grandfather (dads side) had a brain tumor removed in his 30's. Im worried due to the following symptoms and I have seen a doctor whom indicated months ago it was a sprain and do the usual RICE. Im not self diagnosing by anymeans but im not an idiot either and can atleast describe what I feel. -Numbness in my toes and foot across the bottom all the way from my heel area. -Tingling in my toes especially the left 3. -Slight paralysis in those same 3 toes and it seems a 4th is following slowly. I cant move them as far as the right foot which is 100% fine. -Intense burning pain, soreness, and my inside ankle bone is highly sensitve to pressure, the outside is slightly. -The pain feels like its coming from deep within my ankle, down in the core. Its getting worse each night and now I cant sleep much. -Its waking me up very early in the morning with ever increasing intense pain. -My left calf muscle is feeling more pain further and further up like my nerves are rapidly firing slight pain senses. -My tendons also hurt but the funny part is that I am 100% stable and can actually still run on this foot fine although I dont really because I dont want to cause further injury until I know for sure. -****My left (injured ankle) swelling is going down alot now, but the bones feel wider and more spread apart than my right. This was never before I used to take great care of my feet so I would have known if I was out of symmetry my whole life. As if the space between the outside and inside of my ankle across the thickness of my ankle is wider than my right foot. I have another appointment in a week or so as of writing this but not for my foot. Just common blood work etc...cholesterol yada yada... Could a ankle sprain have triggered a tumor like growth down in side my ankle. And if it could or did, of course I will get seen by an MD soon for this, could growth cause an ever increasing pain to experienced as it is pushing on other flesh in side my foot? if I wait to long and it would happen to be a cancer is amputation for something like that inevidable. I dont mind if it were as long as I could get rid of this pain and move on with my life. Thanks any takers?
High Ankle Sprain Recovery time? I am a hockey goalie? I have been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. There wasn't any swelling but extreme pain. It's been about 8 weeks and I still can't go into a butterfly position for my goaltending without extreme pain. I can walk without pain. HAS ANYBODY EXPERIENCED A HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN and tried to get back to playing a sport? How long did it take to feel no pain? I am a goalie and a goalie has to go into a butterfly position a lot and there is a lot of ankle bending to get into that position.

Fever, bone pain, dry eyes & skin, fatigue? What is this? For about 9 years now, (since I was 15) I have had painful knee, shin, ankle and foot pain. It throbs badly, when pain is severe, the limbs become weak. I have also experienced warmth/swelling where the pain is. Recently, in past 2 years, the pain now travels to shoulder, hip, neck and wrists. My diaphragm, sternum & ribs are also very tender. I have dry patches on upper arms & behind ears. I run fevers and have nausea & dizziness, In April 07, I started feeling electirc shocks/buzzing in my feet & ankles. Sometimes pins & needles too. I had an EMG by a Neuro & he diagnosed me w/ demyelinating neruropathy. I have seen a Rhematologist & he ruled out inflammatory conditions and my labs were all normal expect for a few. My C-Reative Protein has been elevated for two years as well as my WBC, my SED rate (only by 4 points). I can't get answers & I am frustatrated. I also deal with numbness in hands, arms, the whole leg down from the hips and essential tremors. Whats wrong w/ me?
Severe ankle tendinitis? Over a year ago, I was diagnosed with severe ankle tendinitis. The Dr just explained to take 800MG of Ibuprofen 3x a day for 10 days and to rest, Ice, and heat it. It never got any better but I have toughed it out. I went to a different Dr last week because the pain has become unbearable . She said it was again severe tendinitis and said to do the same thing. She also did a Xray of my ankle to check for stress fractures. ( Havent got the results yet) If its not better by September 14th she said there are other options to look at. She also told me not to be walking or really moving the ankle but didnt give me crutches or anything. Also something about my ankle/foot is producing too much soft tissue... Have any of you been treated for severe tendinitis and what was your treatment? Anything you would recommend?
SWOLLEN ANKLES AND PAIN? ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS AFTER GIVING BIRTH? Hello to all!!! :) I gave birth to twins 9 months ago and midway through my pregnancy, I developed High blood pressure. I experienced severely swollen ankles to the point where I could barely walk. Now, 9 months later, I still have the high blood pressure and I am on medication for it. Over the last 3 months, I have experienced severe pain in my ankles and swelling to the point that I am walking like I am still pregnant :( It hurts especially when I get up from sitting or lying down. My sister was diagnosed with Lupus after she gave birth. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this after pregnancy and while they have high blood pressure?
Has anyone had a cortisone injection in the spine for a ruptured disk? Crazy hurt or pain reliever? Okay. This is a serious question. I slipped and fell on my in-laws tile floor (in their dogs pee-yuck!) late at night and could not move for awhile. This was in August. It took three different doctors to diagnose me. I have ruptured disk between L4 and L5 causing severe pain and lack of mobility. Then it took another three months to diagnose a sprained ankle that was so unstable that it was swollen and I still can't bear weight on it. I am in an air cast and on crutches. The cast is putting extra pressure on the back and leg. I am only 31 and I have two young children. I have missed out on so much-which my MIL loves. My daughter is in first grade and I have missed so much in her 1st grade year. Doctors say my ankle is looking at another 6 mos. of healing time. Help! Should I get the cortisone injection in my spinal cord and will it work on the leg pain? Or is something like spinal decompression a better way to go? Thank you all. Thank you everyone for your responses. It is nice to hear from people that have gone through this. Dr. told me that they use freeze spray and novicane before giving the injection.
My friend hurt his ankle, what should he do? Earlier this week my friend hurt his ankle while playing basketball. He jumped up and landed on it. One person said they heard a snap. It hurt him really bad for the rest of the day. I told him to go get it looked at but he didn't want to. It didn't turn black or blue so I don't think he broke something. Anyway, now it's been about three days and he says he feels pain but he can at least walk. When he pokes it, it hurts though. Can anyway diagnose what might've happened? Did he break/sprain it? What should he do?
Severely damaged ligaments in ankle. Doctors, do you have an opinion? History: 2 years ago I severely sprained my left ankle, I had a complete tear in my ATFL and a partial tear in my CFL. I am also born with an accessory bone on my Navicular which then fused to the Cuneiform next to it via cartilage. That sprain was treated on my own since I didnt have health insurance. I used crutches for 3 weeks while using RICE. The ankle and its ligaments healed, yet I had developed Posterior Tibial Tendinitis and was experiencing an aching pain on the medial side of my foot (where that fused lump is located) in the mornings, after exercises, and after standing up over 20 minutes. After nearly 9 months of that pain, I took 6 weeks off from any physical activity as hand surgery prohibited my participation in any sport. That sore/dull pain went away. I now have been able to play basketball, football, and soccer completely pain free for about 14-15 months. Now that is that is the ankles history, lets move on to where it gets tricky. 1 month ago I incurred another ankle inversion on that same ankle while coming down awkwardly off a rebound in a game of basketball. This time I have insurance and made an appointment with my local Podiatrist. He ordered an MRI and it showed: -Bifid os tibiale externum and slight edema at the synchondrosis associated with midfoot pronation and posterior tibial paratendinitis. -Peroneal tenosynovitis with slight adhesion's within the peroneal tendon sheath, an os peroneum, and mild peroneus longus tendinosis proximal to and within the cubital tunnel, but no morphologic high grade tear. -Anterior Talofibular ligament is torn. -Mild Achilles tendinosis without tearing or advanced tendinopathy. -Tibiotalar and posterior subtalar joint effusions with synovitis and/or hemorrhage. Mild talonvaicular and naviculocuneiform degenerative changes. (Speaking with my podiatrist and doing my own research on these terms I completely understand what is going on with the ankle.) The ankle was mildly swollen, no discoloration, and I was able to bear weight on it with a slight limp the very next day; however that old aching dull pain came back. Im thinking tendinitis again. After being in a Cam-walker for 1 month I was ordered for physical therapy and didnt need the boot anymore. My physical therapy was mainly just for the tendinitis so it involved a lot of stretches and electro-stimulation therapy. Since I was in the cam-walker for a month, the pain went away. So I decided to tape my ankles up and get back to running and getting back on the basketball court. Well after 2 days of 70% basketball, the ankle felt perfectly fine during and after the game. On the 3rd day of basketball, I inverted my ankle while jumping up off an opponents foot and re-tore my ATFL and possibly my CFL as well. This is the 2nd ATFL tear in the last 35 days, and the 3rd in its lifetime. Also, that fused bone on the medial side of my foot is aggravating the tibialis tendon trying to enter into it. I am going to see my podiatrist tomorrow morning, but wanted to see if anyone else has an opinion on what I should do from here on out. My questions are: 1. With two grade 3 sprains in the past 35 days, does this diagnose me with Chronic Ankle Instability? 2. Should surgery be an option to repair the ligaments that have been torn a few times and to shave that accessory bone deformation down to relieve stress on the tibialis tendon? 3. If healing conservatively, is there a chance to get back to full strength if rested the proper amount of time (several weeks) followed by a more intense physical therapy to help strengthen the muscles and ligaments damaged? 4.Can the ATFL naturally heal after two severe injuries to it within 35 days, or is surgery a must? 5. Since I was able to play going about 70% with 0 pain during and after, was this last inversion simply bad luck, or was it because the ligament wasn't fully healed?
Mystery Shin Pain? I'm a dancer and have been for years. Four years ago, I developed a pain in the muscles of both of my shin/calves that was diagnosed as "shin splints". It hurts in two different places/ways: 1) on the front of my shin (this is a sharper pain, straight up and down the shin from an inch above my ankle to halfway bet. my ankle and my knee); ice helps this kind. Other times it hurts on the insides, in the muscles on the sides of my shin; this is more of an achey pain from my ankle to halfway bet. my knee and ankle; ice doesn't help this type. Never both "types" at the same time. It's not really severe pain; during a hard practice, it's only at about a 6 (10 being the worst), but it's enough that I have a hard time pushing through it and it impacts my practices. It hurts when I run and jump. I've been to doctors, done x-rays & bone scans, PT & gotten supports for my shoes, but nothing helps Has anyone ever had this/ heard of this, know what it is, or know something that would help? Thank you for answering... I completely forgot to mention in my initial question that several times in the past four years I have tried resting them- meaning doing nothing that made them hurt for 3-4 weeks. After about the second week, they feel better (even if I'm not dancing/running/jumping, I can still feel when I walk around whether or not they would hurt if I did dance/run/jump, if that makes any sense...), but when I go back to dance, even if I try to ease back into it, after the first week or two, they come back just as bad as before. It's almost like someone flips a switch; one day, my shins are perfectly fine, then next, they hurt just as bad as they did before I took time off. Also, I don't know if this impacts anything, but in general, when it's warm outside they hurt on top/sharper. When it's cold, the pain moves to the side and is achey.
Physio exercise for broken ankle - any tips pls?? And should I get removed the plate & pins or not? Hi , I broke my right ankle at 2 places in December (slipped on the stairs and had a bad fall....) and was diagnosed with a right sided Weber B bimalleolar fracture. I had an operation, as well, they put a plate and 6 screws in. I was in plaster for 4 weeks then for another 4 weeks had to use the air cast boot (Robocop/StarWars boot) It's a great thing and after a couple of days you can walk almost normal with it without crutches. After a total 8 weeks the doctors told me that I could start walking on my foot again without any support. I've been walking on my own foot for a week now and getting stronger and quicker day by day. I do a 1 hr walk every day and my ankle is getting to look similar to the other one. Although I do have small pains... however my ankle seems to be fine, but my fore-foot, around my toes and the front of the ankle are a bit painful and my foot doesn't bend as it should when walking and it slows me down. Hope this makes sense. Will this be back to normal with more exercise? And what exercise should I do? I only got my first appointment with the physio in a month time.... but I need to get going! I had both sides of my right ankle cut, but only on the outer side they had to put the plate with the pins in. I have no trouble with that side at all. But on the inner side I have a blunt pain much above the cut. Could that be muscle ache? Also I will have a check up in 3 months time (it will be 5 months by then since I had the operation) when it gets decided whether the plate and the pins will be take out or not. Someone says if I have no problems with it, then leave it. Someone says I should get them removed as soon as possible. What do you think? Can you please tell me about your experience or anything useful you have heard? To be honest I don't really like the idea having this thing in my body + I will always beep at the security gates when flying...... but will my ankle be strong enough without it?? Thanks a lot for listening & your replies in advance!!!!!!!!! :)
Does having flat feet with excruciating pain and bilateral accessory navicular qualify me for disability? First - please do not reply if you don't have any information that could possibly help Second - Do not say anything rude to me because it just proves that ur a loser with nothing better to do with ur life than answer questions on yahoo. Third - I am not trying to scam the system or be a bum, I would really prefer to not become disabled but, I'm starting to think that that is what is going to happen (please read) Ok, I am a 22 year old single mother getting my bachelor's degree. Growing up, I heavily played and participated in several sports (soccer, figure skating, ballet and basketball, ect...) so I've injured my ankles and feet multiple times, never seriously but they had seen their share of wear and tear. About a year ago, I was running steps when I landed on the side of my right foot, full weight and since then I have developed severe pain in that foot which has since become both feet. I never recieved medical attention because I did not and still do not have medical insurance. About 8 months ago, I noticed small bumps forming in both feet just under my ankle bone that were uncorrectly diagnosed as cysts. After having extreme pain and some days being unable to walk, I finally went to have an xray done and the radiologist says that I have bilateral (both feet) os tibiale externa, which basically means that I have extra bones in my feet that are causing the arches of my feet to collapse and it is causing alot of pain, along with the fact that these bones are wrapped in a tendon that was injured when I fell a year ago. I've tried all kinds of supportive shoes and orthotics which do absolutely nothing for the pain. I know surgery is the best solution but, no one's going to give me free surgery. Now, I've been seeing a nurse practitioner who has referred me to a orthopedic surgeon but, I'm not to sure what he's going to beable to do because I don't have insurance, no job, full time student and mother, I live with my partner who makes less than 30k a year so we don't have the money to pay any serious medical bills. Anyways, I had to go the ER last week because I just can't take this anymore, he gave me a cane and vicodin, which just make absolutely useless....I can't walk around my campus anymore and this is really heartbreaking because I have a 2 year old who needs an active mom in his life. I'm 22 and walk slower than my 90 year old grandma, this has taken a huge toll not only physically (I have horrible leg, hip and lower back pain cause I'm not walking correctly) but mentally as well, I rarely go out to do anything because I just can't walk, I've also gained about 35 pounds since the first injury because I'm not as active as I was b4. The Dr. and the social worker at the ER told me that no surgeon is going to take me on as a patient because I don't have insurance or the money up front. They say there's really no help for people my age. The ER doc also pulled me aside to tell me that eventually, my tendon's will burst and then I might have to get emergency surgery which I'll then be billed for or if they burst or I'm really unable to walk then I might qualify for SSI or disablity. This is super long but I wanted to get some good opinions or suggestions as to how I can solve this problem. I hate asking for a handout but, I'm super desparate at this point. I just don't understand why the government won't help me pay for this now while it's still reletivly cheap. Why do they want to wait until I'm completely disabled and then have to support me for the rest of my life or at least major medical bills? Please help! I live in northern virginia also....
Colitis and Joint Pain In Teen? Hello! I am 15 years old and was diagnosed with Indeterminate Colitis earlier this year. Lately I have been having severe joint pain in my knees, ankles, and sometimes my elbows. My doctor ran the tests for lupus which came back negative, and said my joint problems could be caused by my Colitis. Does anyone have the same problem? If so, what do you do to help with the pain and gaining back mobility? Over the counter pain relivers such as tylenol and ibueprofen haven't helped much. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!
Strange knee pain, can anyone help? Ok, so back at the start of April I sprained my ankle during track practice (I lost my footing after landing a hurdle and my ankle rolled over itself...in case that helps) so I was put on crutches and had my ankle wrapped in an Ace Bandage. Well the first night I slept with my sprain, I had my knee lying straight (not bent in any way) and the next day I was in massive pain so bad that I couldn't bend it if I wanted to. I went to the trainer's for physical therapy every day so she told me some tips on sleeping better, and it didn't hurt after that. So about 3 weeks later I was walking on my ankle (which is good, it healed properly!) and soon after I started the recovery towards running again. Things were going great until my knee "popped" (I guess, for lack of a better term) and I was on the ground in pain. The trainer diagnosed it later as too much stress on my IT Band from the crutches and such, and so she had me relaxing it with heat and stretching before I ran. When school got out things were going good, no more knee pain, but just yesterday it popped again while I was running around with some friends, and I wanted to cry from so much pain. I apologize for the long background story, but i'm wondering if anybody on here could possibly tell me why this is reoccurring (like...did sleeping weird on it the first night screw it up)? Or what I could do to get rid of it? Like....should I see a doctor and get x-rays or anything? Thanks! Once again, sorry for this being insanely long!!
Does anyone know/have what I have? Chronic type pain? I have this chronic pain that seems to be coming from the muscles, but its really hard to Identify where the pain is originating, due to the fact that my whole body aches. I have gone to the doctors many times and each time I was told that it was just growing pains. One time I was diagnosed with hyper mobility syndrome. its very hard to describe the pain, but ill give it my best shot. -constant aching(worsens at night or when I switch my attention the pain) -pain is dull and subtle. -if I don't move tension starts to build up in my muscles(mainly in the thy and calf area. -pain in my wrist and ankle area. -the only way to relieve the pain is by constantly stretching and/or cracking my joints. again the pain isn't like "ouch" type pain but its very dull annoying pain. It keeps me up at night, and a constant distraction. also being submerged in water like a pool, the pain is gone. The more engaged I am in activity and the less i think about the pain the better, but its always there. It makes it really hard to stay still. I often times describe it as how it would feel if you could feel yourself growing. also I had it since I could remember. I am also always stretching/cracking my hands and feet as the pain is also there. I thought i might have some type of arthritis but I have full mobility, and hyper mobility.
Foot problems-numbness and pain? I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple of years ago. The symptoms come and go but I have never experienced anything like what is going on now. The outer half of my left foot from a little above the ankle to the bottom of my toes has been numb for a couple of weeks now. It started off with my foot swelling about three times bigger than it usually is. Now, I have really bad pain around my ankle bone. Also, I cannot even touch the left side of my foot without experiencing pain to the touch. If the leg of my pants touches my foot, it drives me crazy and I can't even wear socks. My doctor told me there is nothing I can do to help it so I have to just be in pain. I was just wondering if someone can help me or let me know if they have experienced anything like this. I was thinking about going to a chiropractor today, but I am not sure. I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. I currently take Lyrica 3 x's daily.

************I NEED HELP DIAGNOSING MY ANKLE PROBLEM!!!!!!!**********? I am 13 years old. I hurt my ankle over the summer by rolling on it while running down some concrete stairs. I ignored the pain because it was a 3 on a pain scale 0 to 10. But then i started dance and i am there 12 hours a week!!!!!! Including my class pointe. During class The pain was to the point where i could but barely put pressure on it and it felt like a 9.5 on a pain scale ( 10 is worst pain ever felt ) this happened repeatedly. My ankle is not swollen or bruised. It hurts on the back of my ankle and top and all around the part of the ankle on top of the 2 things sticking out of the side of ur foot. When i roll me ankle in circles i hear poping and cracking and when i walk down hill most of the time i hear and feel it crack/pop. HELP!
My ankle wont move but I have no pain with it. Whats going on? About a month ago my big toe wouldnt move any more. It was not painful, actually no feeling at all. Then yesterday my ankle wont move now. It also does not hurt, just will not allow my foot to move. I do have diabetic neuropathy, but really dont think this is neuropathy. Any ideas what is going on? I have had pain in that leg for a little over 5 years which was finally recently diagnosed as bursitis. What would make the ankle not move, but also have no pain?
I am living with chronic leg pain....Any help? I am a 15 year old runner who has suffered from severe knee, foot, ankle, and hip pain since i was about 8. I have been to 9 different doctors who all diagnose me with a different ailment but offer no treatment. I'm slightly flat-footed and my hips and knees turn in facing one another. I've worn knee braces, hip wraps, shoe inserts, ankle supports, etc., all with no avail. Painkiller helps but i can't be popping ibuprofen all my life just to make it through a day. My parents are at their wits end trying to find me doctors or help. This is definitely not a normal side effect to running, especially when I put in only about 5 miles on a hard day. Does anyone have any guidance or advice? I am beyond desperate and would adore any help you could give me. Thank you so much in advance (:
Help me diagnose my ankle/foot pain? So in the beginning of August I rolled my ankle and it hurt for about a week, then the pain went away. It was still a little stiff since the injury. Recently, around the middle of September, I was practicing dance when I jumped and landed a little harder then usual. The following day my arch was swollen and my ankle hurt again on the same foot I previously rolled, as well as the top of my foot (closer to the ankle). The swelling of my arch lasted about a few days then when I iced it one night it went away. The ankle pain still remained. It hurt a little when I walked but it wasn't unbearable (but keep in mind that I tore the ligament off the bottom of my other foot and I thought that the pain wasn't unbearable also). My foot hurts when I do certain moves when I dance and the pain is on and off when I walk. The pain is more localized around the side of the ankle closer to the foot and the top of the foot near the ankle. I danced again today and my foot hurts when I walk now. What do you think is wrong with my foot? How should I treat it? Will I have to take a break from dance? ANY opinions, suggestions, tips, or ideas of what is wrong with my foot will be greatly appriciated! Thanks

Bruised bone in ankle? how to make it better? Help! over a year!? In july 2010 i broke my fibula, dislocated my ankle and snapped ligaments in my ankle. earlier this year after continuous pain i was diagnosed with a bruised bone just above the left ankle that dislocated. Please help, Urgent!!! Ankle Injury? So I had an MRI on the 22nd of September because of ankle pain, and I was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture on my posterior malleolus(back of tibia) so I was put in a walking boot for 4 weeks, and I had a follow up with a doctor and he told me it was no longer broken through an X-Ray and that it healed... But that was my 3rd X-ray, and every time it was negative... So now and I am now starting physical therapy again. But during the exercises, I am getting moderate to sharp pains in the area of my injury.... Did my fracture not heal?? I'm so depressed, because this process has dragged out for almost 7 months... Any insight would be greatly appeciated....
I am having a sharp pain on inside of my right ankle whenever I walk flat footed. Can someone help diagnose? I was fine all day yesterday and didn't do anything too strenuous but last night I stood up and immediately pain started shooting up from right near the ankle bone every time I walked flat on my foot. It hurts a little more today, If I walk on the ball of my foot with my heel off the ground it doesnt hurt usually occasionally if there is too much weight on it it will hurt a bit, but nothing like when I walk with my heel down. Does not hurt when I flex my ankle and rotate my foot at the ankle joint, while sitting, no noticeable bruising and I felt around and it wasn't tender to the touch unless I put a lot of pressure on it, I figured that was because I was putting pressure on it. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am goin to try to get into the DR tomorrow but just wanted some info to tide me over until then. Yes I iced it last night and I have been wrapping it when I was leaving the house. I woke up this morning and it barely hurts at all. I am debating going to the doctor now, since it seems to be going away.
I have chronic pain, why cant it be diagnosed? I was diagnosed with hiv about 5 years ago and about 4 years ago I noticed a tingling /cold moving up my leg and around my body that came to rest around my right arm. Well, a few days later I could barley lift my right hand bc the pain in my elbow. This pain went on for about 2 years and every time I mention it to anyone or any doctor they look at me like I'm crazy. After working out one day and working through the pain, I noticed it was gone. The next day the same type of pain was in my left ankle and it was horrible. The pain stayed there for about a week and moved up into my left wrist and stayed there about 3 months. With this pain there is a numbing area of the skin around the painful area. then one day my right began to twitch really bad for about a week. Then this terrible pain behind my eye shows up that starts behind my eye and covers the right side of my head. I think there is some kinda virus in my tendons that travels around my body when agravaded but it seems to have made my eye it's home. I have told numerous doctors my story and no one knows what it is and even worse I cant get anyone to write me a prescription for the pain. absolutly NO OTC drugs will dull the pain . I have actually had to act as a junky and begin a program at the local Methadone Clinic because I just cant stand the pain anymore and no one believes that I am in pain. I just wish someone could identify my symtoms so I can finnally be free of this. can anyone help?
Sudden ankle swelling after pulled calf muscle? My Husband was diagnosed with a pulled calf muscle 10 days ago. The severe pain has diminished but he still needs a crutch to walk. Then tonight his ankle and calf are swollen again, about the size of a softball cut in half on his ankle. Plus there is a lot of bruising in his calf and ankle that wasn't there before. Could something else have gone wrong? Or am I being a worry wart over it? Thanks Catherine
what is this pain syndrome? they can't diagnose it. pain medication doesn't work. please help? for the last 8 years or so, and progressively getting worse, i get pain in one hip or the other, or both after one starts hurting. the pain in the joint feels like a DEEP aching pain and hurts VERY bad. a lot of times, but not always accompanied by the hip joint pain, my muscles in one leg BURN and ache so badly. it usually starts in either my upper thigh or lower leg near my ankle, and over a few hours those aches move down from my thigh and up from my lower leg to meet in the middle. over the first few hours of hurting, also, my hip joint and ankle joint and knee in that same leg feels stiff and creaky. usually the pain sets in around the afternoon or evening, and will last for anything from 1 day to 2 weeks. the leg that is affected is random, sometimes it's just one, other times it's both, other times it's the left or right, and then the other one will start to hurt within an hour or so. rheumetoid factor is negative. the only thing abnormal in my bloodwork is my ana is elevated. my hair is falling out the last 2 years or so, progressively getting worse, very dry mouth and very dry eyes for the last 2 years...i can't see clearly out of my eyes for over 2 months now. major fatigue for over 2 years now. unexplained tachycardia for about 5 years now. i have difficulty gaining weight and have always been under weight. being under weight is not the cause of the tachycardia. i am in my early 20's, female, nothing like this really runs in the family. my grandma complained of leg pain for a long time and was diagnosed with bone cancer, but she was older and bone cancer doesn't run in the family. any idea at least what this pain could be? my general practicioner mentioned that and referred me to a rheumetologist. i'm waiting to get in. any suggestions are appreciated here though. i've been going to doctors about this for EIGHT YEARS and no one has been able to find anything. they're only now willing to investigate it because they can SEE symptoms that my hair is falling out and that my teeth are rotting out of my head (i've had a cavity filled in every single one of my teeth in the last 2 years despite better than perfect dental hygiene.) what they can see, they can't pass off as my imagination. i've been told i'm imagining it, that i'm crazy, etc etc for YEARS, by many doctors, doctors who said they would help me, just because they could not figure it out. i've read about sciatica and it really doesn't seem to fit the bill. thanks for the suggestion though. i never have pain in my knee, just stiffness, and the pain doesn't go up my back or down my butt. it's strictly deep inside the joint, on the outside of my hip, and down only the front of my thigh, and all sides of my lower leg and along the top of my foot, and recently, joint pain in the ankle. the joint pain and the leg pain are very DIFFERENT types of pain. the leg pain is burning and aching and makes my leg feel heavy. the joint is a DEEP throbbing pain.

Continued lower joint pain after major weight loss.? I'm a 25-year-old female at 5ft 7 inches tall and currently 209lbs. I've had lower back and extremity joint and muscle pain for as long as I can remember, and even before I can remember starting as a newborn. As an infant I had severe hip dysplasia and wore a corrective cast/brace for my first 14 months. All through my growing years I've had muscle aches and joint pains that would keep me up or wake me up at night. I was told these were just "growing pains." Partly due to the discomfort of activity (and poor eating habits), last year I reached a weight of 319lbs and was obviously in the worst shape of my life. Since then I have lost over 100lbs with diet and exercise. I had been told by doctors that losing the weight and being physically active would surely help with my lower joint and back pain, but it hasn't. In fact, because I am much more active, I seem to hurt all the time now. I'm still about 60lbs overweight, but I had expected, at the the very least, marked improvement. During the past year, as I've become more and more active, participating in water aerobics, biking, running, and circuit training there have been two very specific symptoms to go along with the general lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain, and foot pain bilaterally: The first is sharp pain in the dorsom of my left foot with unknown causation. It is a kind of locking up or seizing sensation that occurs unexpectedly, usually after resting from exercise or waking up in the morning. Some days it won't happen at all, other days it can happen upwards of 15-20 times. I saw a podiatrist who diagnosed extensor tendonitis and "general instability" and prescribed a brace, anti-inflamatories, Voltaren gel, and told me to R.I.C.E. and limit my high impact exercise. When that didn't work approximately 8 weeks later, I recieved a cortisone injection to my sinus tarsi. While that helped briefly, it never eliminated the problem and less than 6 weeks later I'm back to the same level of discomfort that I started with. The second symptom I would describe as a clicking and tugging in my left hip. This is relatively new symptom, beginning about 3 weeks ago but again, with no specific event to pinpoint the cause. With about 60% of my steps there is a quick, nonpainful tugging sensation that runs from the front of my left anterior hip to my lumbar curve. I can hear a "clicking" noise, but I'm not sure if that's external or internal. Now that I am experiencing two rather specific "injuries" to my left side, I'm am beginning to suspect that there is a larger culprit at play here than just the injuries themselves. Perhaps this is more of a big picture issue than it first seemed. I hate visiting with doctors about my issues anymore. I've been told too many times that whatever my ailment- it's either my weight or all in my head. Maybe they are right- but I still need help finding a solution.

It automatically goes off and erupts gain, I take Vitamin B12 tablets but that is not very helping. I am 26 years old.

Can anyone diagnose a pain in your knees and ankles? I have both my knees hurting all around them, and my right ankle hurts more than my left, but they still hurt. We can't find what is happening, someone help? Oh, and I started track 3 weeks ago and before that my swim season just ended. Thanks!
Severe Pain in Ankle and Foot? Over the last 6 years I have had occasional severe ankle/foot pain. It happens 1-2 times per year and lasts 2 days to 2 weeks. There is usually no explanation as to why the pain begins. On two occasions I walked a mile the day before. The pain usually begins in my sleep and wakes me up. This last occasion the pain began while sitting at my desk. I have been to a few different podiatrists, but they were not able to diagnose the pain even though extensive tests where performed. On two occasions, I was give cortisone and that helped for a few days. I now have orthopedic insoles for my walking shoes and that seems to help and be more comfortable. Most of the time I will wear a walking boot/ Futuro ankle brace to manage getting around. Here are my current symptoms: •Pain seems to be located in my ankle by my inside ankle bone. •Pain radiates up my shin and towards the middle of my foot. •I have a hard time moving my foot "up" towards my shin. •I have about half the flexibility of my other foot. •My ankle feels weak and walking is difficult. I am a 30 year old male who is 5'7 170 lbs with no other major health issues. What is wrong with my ankle? How can I prevent this from happening in the future?
Severe pain in ankle? I have just been diagnosed as having Gout in my ankle . I've had pain for months and this is the answer to it . I've been given tablets called allopurinol , the doc said that the pain might get worse as the tablets start to kick in . This is the 3 rd day and i am in agony - how much longer before i feel a bit less pain ?
What could be causing pain and tingling in my body? I have pain in my shoulders and neck and my lower back. I have tingling in my left forearm, and in my left leg from my calf to my ankle. I also have pain in my rib under my left underarm. Sometimes I have pain in my right ankle. I have been experiencing this pain for a couple months now. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago but was told recently to stop taking synthroid until my new blood results come back from a new doctor. I am 19 years old.
Chronic Pain in ankle and top of foot.? I sprained my right ankle in December 23, 2010. I had very little bruising, almost none, and very little swelling. Though it hurt a lot. I have sprained my left ankle before and got better in 1 month and that one was purple and very swollen. So I thought this sprain was going to be a breeze since there was little swelling and bruising. I was getting better but after a month a hit a plateau, so I went to the doctor, took xrays and there were no broken bones. I took physical therapy for about 2 months, and again I hit a plateau. So I stopped going, and started swimming. Pain reduced but I FEEL that there is something wrong. I walk crooked now, because that's the only way it does not hurt. I went to the orthopedic, and I paid $400 for an MRI for the doctor to tell me "your fine". I was so upset so he just gave me a cortisone shot to relieve the pain. It worked but after a week I felt pain again. I have gained about 15lbs since I cant run anymore. I can walk fine, but with every step there is pain. I need help, they have mis-diagnosed me. I KNOW something is wrong, its already been 8 months since the incident and I still have pain. Obviously its gotten better, but I have been stuck at this stage for 3 months already. Its my right ankle, and I step with the outside of my foot, so I now have developed a lot of calluses right below my pinky toe in the "knuckle" per say. I know if I continue like this my knees will start giving out, then it will affect my back since I walk crooked. The orthopedic is so rude to me. One day I wanted to cry. Should I go back to my primary doctor and ask him to refer me to a foot specialist? Please help me. This is my first time reaching out to the online community, since my own doctors can't help me. I also had blood work done. I have high cholesterol, but I am not at risk for diabetes.
Why is my ankle hurting when I walk? I fell and slipped off a 10 feet wall back in 1989 and my buttocks landed on my ankle. I was diagnosed with a pretty bad medial ankle sprain. Over the years I would twist that same ankle and within days the pain would go away. About 3 months ago I hiked up some steep trails and slightly twisted that same ankle again and now it hurts when I walk, it is still swollen a little and it throbs on its own sometimes. What might be the problem? Could it be that the deltoid ligament is has stretched or torn?
Help with my ankle/s hurting? When I stretch out, run, walk, or even just sit, my left ankle seriously hurts. My right ankle was diagnosed with irritated growthplates, so I was in a walking boot for a month. That foot feels much better, only hurts on occasion. One doctor, before we went to the sports who diagnosed the irritations, said I had tendonitus. I believe this to be true as well. Does that go into your achilles tendon because both my achiles hurt when I put pressure on them, such as putting my feet up on something when they pressure is right on that area. The pain occurs on the inside of my ankle going up and my ankle pops and cracks alot. Field Hockey season is about to start, and all practice is is running. So, my sister says I should push through the first practice and then have the trainer check it out after wards, but I dont know if I can. I had a follow up appointment after my boot was off, and my mom wouldnt let me go because she says it was a waste of money. I was also supposed to be attending Physical therapy for two-three months, but mom didnt want to waste money. Suggestions??? Also, my heels always hurt, which is where I got the irritations. They dont "hurt" but they get sore if I stand for too long. In the morning its hell, and when I sit, it hurts with relief. If you get that. ANOTHER add on: I bought two braces for my ankles for field hockey. Will they help with the pain, or just prevent it from getting worse
Foot/Ankle pain with no injury? I'm a sixteen year old volleyball player, and within the last couple of months, have experienced horrible pain in my let foot/ankle/lower leg. I wake up in the morning and have to walk flat footed (left foot only) because if I flex and extend my foot like normal, it causes pain on the top, later aspect of my foot (more towards the ankle) that shoots up the side of my calve. The pain, throughout the day (just walking) is there, but its dull. When I go to a game or practice and start rigorous activity, the pain multiplies and spreads. It spreads to the the top of my foot, still shooting up the side, and seems to stretch around to the sides of my achilles tendon (lower, ankle). The pain gets so bad I limp around. I went to a doctor and we discovered that my left ankle pronates. It is only slight, and I still have a high arch. I have been wearing them for a couple weeks now, and notice little difference while walking in them. As soon as I take them off pain continues. I have no idea if the pronation is a cause of the pain, or if I have inflammation of something in there. The doctor diagnosed it as a "stress reaction" but Im not so sure. The pain is excruciating and I just want answers! X ray came up clean. Do I need an MRI? Varsity season has been going all summer.. I also play club in the off season. I love volleyball, which is why I never stop. I had a doctors note to stay off of my foot for the last week, to see if it calms down. It hasnt. I don't want to lose my spot in the starting lineup.. I need answers!! HELP :( PS- I have never had an accidental injury, or any injury, of my foot. Except for this one.. and I don't know where it came from! So sorry, just realized I accidentally edited out the sentence about my orthotics. After I saw a doctor he prescribes me to custom orthotics. That's what I was talking about when I said I have been wearing THEM...
Ankle contusion question? I was playing football and someone's helmet smashed into my ankle. It didn't hurt bad at first, and I continued to play. Afterward it was a terrible pain. The doctor diagnosed me with a ankle contusion. Should I still play if it feels alright by tomorrow afternoon Or should I sit out
Help me diagnose a pain in my right ankle.? Hi all, I have had a strange pain on the right side of my right ankle for a few days, and there's also some swelling. I have been running about ten-fifteen miles a week, usually on a treadmill, and I walk a lot (sometimes in flip flops). I also like to lift weights, and I do toe raises and calf raises a few times a week, but if it was a sprain or a weight lifting injury I would probably have felt some immediate pain rather than this. I'm thinking maybe tendonitis? I had an achilles issue a few years ago from increasing my mileage too quickly, but I'm thinking that this can't be my achilles because it's on the side of my ankle rather than at my achilles tendon. What do you think, and should I do anything beyond the regular rest, ice, elevation, and compression?
I have Multiple Sclerosis. Pain and weird feeling in ankle/foot? I was just diagnosed 2 mos. ago. I am 26. Sometimes, (usually later in the day), my ankle will get sore. Then it moves to the heel of my foot. By the end of the evening I can barely walk...It feels like there is a lot of pressure inside my ankle and foot and it feels like I am stepping on rocks with no shoes on. It is always gone by the morning. What could be causing this? I am currently taking a multi vitamin and vitamin D3. I just had all of my vitamin levels checked 2 weeks ago, and all were within normal range. I don't believe my Magnesium level was checked though.
severe ankle pain with dorsiflexion, what could it be?? please help horrible pain? Hello, Basically nearly 9 weeks ago I badly rolled my ankle from about a 6.5ft drop at speed, I was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture and ligament injury. What I would like to know is what kind of ligament injury is it eg. Grade 1, 2 or 3 and what ligament am I most likely to have damaged? All pain is situated on the medial (inside) of my ankle and the pain extends across the front of my ankle when it is dorsiflexed. My symptoms about 48 hrs after the occurred were Severe pain, severe swelling, ecchymosis (purple bruising), unable to weight bear at all and loss of movement this leads me to believe it may have been a grade 3 tear although I am unsure of this, which is why I would like to know so I know what to expect for recovery time, weather it will ever fully recover etc. I would also like to know which ligament may have been damaged, research I have done makes me think I may have torn the deltoid ligament? Also I may have to have an MRI Scan as it is not healing properly I just want to know is that really necessary as I do not want to waste NHS time or money that could be spent on more important health care fo others. Thank you in advance. Yeah my ankle never healed form the first time I rolled it this is about the 9th time in a couple of years it has happened which is why I am curious as to the main cause to try and find a soloution. Thank you for your answer :)

Help diagnosing a skin issue on finger, ankle? I developed some sort of rash on my middle finger about a month ago that hasn't gone away, so I'm thinking it might be an infection. It's only about the size of the quarter. There is not really any discoloration. The entire area seems relatively abrasive. The center seems to be dried/flaky, and there are a few pin-sized "bubbles". Lastly, it hurts to the touch, but there's no passive pain. There is a similarly sized, shaped and feeling rash on the side of my ankle that appeared at the same time. It doesn't hurt to the touch, but the similar appearances and timing lead me to believe that these are the same issue. Does anyone know what these may be and what I might do to resolve them?
Ankle Pain - Did I injure myself without realizing it? I am having severe ankle pain and I'm not sure what (if anything) happened. I do not recall injuring myself (no falls, didn't twist it, etc.). It's fine if I take 800mg of Ibuprofen every 5 hours but if I don't take it then I am in severe pain. I don't wake up overnight to take the Advil and I am in extreme pain as soon as I wake up. I had an x-ray 2 days ago and the doctor in the Urgent Care said everything looked normal. The radiologist followed up and said he agreed with the doctor, the x-ray was normal. I was diagnosed with a mild sprain. I'm not sure if that is even possible, considering I didn't injure myself and my x-ray was normal. Your insight is appreciated.
I need help diagnosing a very awful pain...? I am 16, female, and this pain is NOT MENSTRUAL RELATED. and I am having serious trouble with my joints from the waist down. Hips are in a moderate amount of pain. My knees are incredibly unbearable. and my ankles are about the same pain as my hips. I would describe the pain as a deep burning/aching. I notice that my knees do get swollen, as do my hips and ankles and feet, however, i know that this is not all that is going on. I notice towards the end of each day, when I begin to unwind, the pain gets worse. The pain seems to pinpoint all the weak spots in my joints. This is a big concern for me. Please help! Much appreciated.
Can sotalol cause Leg pain? i just got diagnosed with Atril fibrillation. im takin sotalol can it cause leg/ ankle pain?
Need help diagnosing a ankle/foot problem.? I injured my ankle/foot over three weeks ago playing basketball. I landed on someone's foot and rolled my ankle. I heard a loud pop and dropped to the floor. Immediately there was fairly intense pain. I couldn't even think about putting weight on it. I had it x-ray taken at an immediate care facility but there was nothing found. After a week of pain and no progress I went to an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed me with a lateral ankle sprain and a stress fracture in my second metatarsal. I have worn a walking boot for the last two weeks. I am in my boot for another three weeks till my next appointment. But I still can only put very minimal weight on it, even with the boot and every day my foot swells up pretty good. There is no discoloration in my foot just swelling. Whenever I try to put weight on my foot, I have pain about an inch under my ankle, where the base of my fifth metatarsal would be. Is this normal or do I need to schedule a sooner appointment to have it looked at again. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks! Well the doctor said he thought I'd be able to be off crutches in about a week maybe a little longer. So now that its been two and I'm nowhere close to being off crutches, that's why I'm worried.
Joint Pain with Swollen Ankles? My wife aged 31, is suffering from joint pains with swollen ankles for past 2 - 3 weeks. History: Throat Infection(for 2 weeks) followed by fever(3 days) alongwith severe joint pains. Treatment 1. Consulted Physician , prescribed Cefixime and PCM. Had ithcing and rashes on second day on hands and face, so the doctor discontinued Cefixime and prescribed Azithromycin and cetrizine. Fever subsided and relieved of joint pains. 2. After 1 week, joint pain started recurrring with swelling in ankles. So we consulted ortho specialist and he advised for blood test. Abnormalities in blood test are ESR - 50 (1/2 hour) ESR - 136 (1 hour) CRP - 12 He prescribed cefixime, indometacin and pain killer for 10 days. After 10 days, joint pain re-emerged with swollen ankles. 3. We consulted another Ortho specailist, after seeing the lab report and swollen ankles, he diagnosed it as Rheumatoid arthritis and prescribed following medicines. Dolovin Plus - 1 week MetPred 4mg - 1 month Currently she is taking the above medicine for the past 1 week... Current status - No pain while taking medicines and swollen ankles is better. As the RA Factor is only 10 ...we could not understand how this can be a Rheumatoid arthritis? After Google search, we suspect Rheumatic fever as she had throat infection prior to fever But as kids are most prone for Rheumatic fever, we are really confused now. Need your opinion on this please.. Many Thanks, Rabin.
