How to stop knee & ankle pain when running? I am a new runner. My right knee and ankle have been really bothering me. Today I had to stop running because the pain got too bad. Is this normal? What can I do to prevent it?l
How to stop ankle pain during/ after running? I am 23 years old, healthy weight for my height, and have started running in the past couple months. This last weekend I ran (and walked a little) a quarter marathon, my first race. My goal is to do a half by April 2009. I am a very slow runner and often still have to take brief walking breaks every mile or two. I have noticed that my ankles often start aching after the first half mile or so and continue for the rest of the time that I run and/or walk. It is the tendon on the outside that feels like it is tightening and beginning to ache (not really a sharp pain, just a very uncomfortable ache). I have very high quality running shoes that still have a lot of life left in them, so I'm quite certain it's not my shoes. Does anyone have any advice about some stretches and/or exercises to help with my ankle pain? (Any general running advice is appreciated as well as I am very new to this sport) Thanks! I bought my shoes from a running store where they video taped how I ran on a treadmill and then picked shoes to supplement my weaknesses. I don't know how to find shoes a better way than this?
Ankle Pain when running, What should I do to stop this? I'm training to run a marathon for next year (Oct 2008) . Today I started my training today (running 3 miles). Almost half way into my run I started feeling ankle pain. I'm not sure if I need noew running shoes (if so which ones?) or if I should or put wrap them up in something to make them better or not hurt so much when i'm running. thanks!
Does anyone know about ankle pain and running? I 've been running 3 miles, 2 to 3 times a week on the treadmill and have developed a painful left ankle. It hurts on the outer side just below the ankle bone, in the dip, and along the side of my foot and though it doesn't hurt to walk I can no longer run as the pain starts immediately. If I rest my foot it is extremely painful to stand when I put weight on it but then it subsides after a few minutes. If I walk any distance it'll hurt afterwards too. It is also quite stiff and hurts to turn my foot inwards. I've stopped running but it's not improving and it's getting me down. I haven't twisted it or anything and when I was only running 1 and a half miles at a time I had no problems. Does anyone have any ideas? I've not seen my Doc yet as he'll probably just say don't run! Thanks
Ankle pain after running on treadmill - help please? I have pain in my ankles aroung the ankle bone, and slightly up my inner leg. I have been told to stop running for two weeks, but is there any form of excersise I can be doing to releive the aches and pains. NB I am on my feet all day at work !!!!
ankle pain...running? I have been starting my summer running to prepare for Cross Country in the Fall. I think the second time I was out running I felt pain in my ankle, but I kept going because I thought it was my shoes. Since they were year-old trainers, I bought new ones for this season. I have been running quite a bit. Every time I run it feels like my ankles are on fire. When I am done I am almost limping at the pain. I think my left ankle is slightly swollen today...someone please help!
How to decrease ankle pain running on indoor tracks? I run indoor track and i have run for about 3 months... i went from a 5 45 mile to a 4 45 or 4 40 mile in about 2 months... when i made regionals we had to wrok harder-- alot harder... it went from distance to 17 second 150's - this is a yard track- with little rest... my ankles hurt like a mother when i stop running.. when i run their fine when i stop after a few seconds i lose control of them and tumble sometimes... i need to run for the pain to go away.. my shoes are new... what do i do?
inner knee pain -- ankle/running related? I'm recovering from ~8 weeks out with strained/torn ankle ligaments on the outside of my foot. I began fitness back 1.5-2 weeks back, and am a soccer player. I have noticed on the inner part of my right knee (the same leg w/ the ligament issue) and even sometimes on my left knee, that there is this sort of pain. However, it's not really "pain" though per se, rather an uncomfortable niggle that I'm pretty worried about. Is it ankle related? Getting back in shape after lack of running causing this? Is it strained? I guess I'm worried that it's my MCL, ACL, etc. or even meniscus. I'm dying to get back to playing, and this is KILLING me to have to deal with it. Very mentally draining. B/C of the left factor, I'm just wondering. I can extend and walk fine, just sometimes when I step/push up I can feel it. Thoughts/expertise/help? Thanks so much!
I have ankle pain after I run, I previously had stress fractures on both ankles from running.? Last year I had a stress fracture in both ankles after running, I saw a doctor and he did x-rays, mri's, therapy and ultrasounds. I still have pain after I run, it is now in my ankles and rides up my lower leg bone about 10 inches. I am in good health and not overweight. I have never had a problem running. The doc also gave me caltrate and cosamin for me to be able to cope with the pain. Why am I still getting this awful pain? My doc has no clue and I think that he thinks I am lying about it. Anyone have a clue? Oh yeah, I've tried different running shoes also but to no relief.
pain behind my left ankle after running this morning? The pain starts three inches above my heel and extends for about two inches towards the calve, its also behind and on the inside of my ankle. Its been 6 hours and I can still feel it slightly when I walk up stairs. What is it? Should I stop running, by a brace or see a doctor?
Inner ankle pain after running? Lately during track practices after we do ANY kind of run, there's this really sharp pain in my inner ankles... it hurts really bad right afterwards and later it's kind of an ache, but still hurts when I take a step. Our first meet's next Saturday. Does anyone know what causes this and how to help the pain go away?
Ankle pain while running? I rolled my ankle 3 weeks ago and its just fine. This morning I felt really good and ran a mile on it. During running it felt sore all the way through. Later on in my workout I could limp-run only. The medial part of my ankle (the inside) hurts after my run and is still a little sore even after I ice bucketed it. I can't afford to take any days off so and stretch. Thanks in advance. Here is the picture of the musle that hurts in my ankle: http://www.foottalk.com/popups/images/medial__ankle_anatomy1_web.jpg The pain is in the posterior tibiotalar part.
Shin/ankle pain and running? I am trying to get into running. For the past two weeks I have been slowly increasing my distance and times, and have been running about 6 days a week. I went to a running shoe specialist and had them fit me for a shoes and have been wearing them since last week. I however still have pain in my shins and ankles after running. I stretch through the pain afterwards and about 24 hours afterwards I am back to normal? Should I keep running? Am I on my way to a stress fracture or shin splint? What should I do? Is this normal pain?
Pleae help with ankle pain during running? I have recently began running to train for a physical agility test. 2 weeks ago I could barely run because my shins hurt so bad but I have follwed the advice I found on here from other peoples questions and that is no longer an issue now its my ankles. I run about 1/2 a mile then the top front of both ankles become very painful and I have to stop running. I am running on mostly flat hard packed gravel road. Does anyone have any advice? I only have to run a mile and I have a few weeks to do it, its not that I get tired or anything the distance isnt the problem its the pain. Please let me know what you think
Ankle pain and running? I have been training for a 5k for about a month now and the other day I went out to run and my ankle was in so much pain when i started. I have no injuries to my ankle and did not twist it recently. In addition, I am on a training schedule to build up my bones and joints properly and not increasing more than 10% a week. Any suggestions on what is causing this and how to make it better. I just went out and bought a elastic ankle wrap (it actually is like a sock with a whole in the ball of my foot and covers my ankle). I also didnt run for a few days and then I ran again and the pain came back...I know I should get it checked out by a doctor, I just dont have any insurance at the moment and when it kicks in I will go...so any suggestions until then...I really dont want to not run until I go to the doctors...(which is in a month when I get my insurance) Thanks for any help..
Ankle pain during/after running? I have read through many of other questions on Yahoo about ankle pain while running, and I can't seem to find anything that will explain the reason I am feeling the pain I am. First off I want to let you know that I just recently started working out about 2 weeks ago, and started running at about the same time. I haven't been running a lot, but I do try to do it everyday...sometimes it could be considered more of a jog. I started experiencing ankle pain the other night while running, but it went away shortly after I built up some speed. Well last night I started running, and it hurt (badly) and the pain wouldn't go away, so I only ran a really short distance because the pain was so uncomfortable. What might be the cause of this? Is it because I am new to running and haven't built up enough strength in my ankles to support me? Or could it be something like I need a new pair of shoes? Just want some thoughts and opinions on this, thanks!
Ankle Pain When Running? Okay so a couple of months ago around the beginning of July I started running on a regular basis at the gym. I did on average 30 mins everyday and ran for abt 5 or 6 km when I first started out. By the end of the month the speed at which I ran had increased and then I was running abt 7 km in 30 mins each day (except for weekends when I'd take a break). Thing is, near the end of the month I injured my right ankle probably because of over-excercise and it had taken abt a whole 2 weeks maybe before the pain was completely 100 percent gone. I thought I should take a break from the running for a while and I did and a few days ago this September I started up again at the same intensity I left off at. And the EXACT same ankle pain cropped up on the same ankle the very first day (not severe though just mild). So i'm asking myself, is this cuz I didn't gradually build up the intensity of the exercise after taking such a long break or is it because I've screwed up my ankle, or is it maybe because the running shoes that I use have worn out and I need to buy a new pair.
ankle pain while running? I have recently started training for a half marathon. I have always been a runner but I am now running a little more than I used to. I have tried to increase my mileage gradually. I have recently started having serous ankle pain in both my ankles and heals. It hurts on the inside and outside of my ankle right below the bone that sticks out. It is sore to the touch. It hurts the most when I start running and will ease as I keep going but does not go away completely. It is a throbbing pain. It will hurt when I am walking around after running as well. I have fairly new shoes, only a couple months old. What could be the cause of this and how can I treat it and prevent it? Thanks
Ankle pain from running? I just started running on wednesday 9-9 after 91 days off from an injury (surgery was needed.) I ran that wednesday, thursday, and friday fine, but when i was done on friday i had excruciating pain in my ankle. I have not run since friday 9-11 and it still hurts. I can now pinpoint the location of my pain and it is in the front of my ankle in a circle about 1cm in diameter. I think it may be because i just put my joints down there is so much shock from just starting running, but im not sure. Also i did not do too much. On 9-9 i did 2miles on 9-10 i did 2.5 miles and on 9-11 i did 5k
extremely Bad knee and ankle pain after running. What is it and how do i fix it? i am a very active 17 year old. I dance cheerlead and pole vault on my track team. I have had severe shin splints for the past few weeks since starting track but they have gotten better and i am able to push through the pain. I run distance on my own usually about 3 miles a day after track and the past few day after i run i get extreme pain in my knees and ankles. the pain is so bad that i can't straighten my legs afterward and they don't stop shaking. and now the pain does not stop through out the day. i have constant pain in my knees and ankle. I will not give up running so that is not an option. But anything to lessen the pain would be nice.
sudden pain in my ankle when running? This has been happening for awhile, but I haven't payed to much attention to it. Usually, when I start running moderately fast (usually faster than a jog), theres suddenly a pain in the front of my ankle that makes my foot kind of go limp and hurt for around half a minute, but then after walking on it a little, its fine. Does anyone know what this is?
Running with ankle pain? Ok, I have had a pain when i start running in the back part of my ankle. I am not over doing it im on a plan and that includes warmup and not increasing more that 10% weekly. I have not injured my ankle either. Does anyone know what this pain might be caused by? Or what exersizes/stretches I can do to make it feel better? My final question is what muscles I need to strengthen to support my ankle and what cross training would be best suited. Thanks for any help on any of the questions.
Sore inner ankle pain from running? help!? Okay maybe somebody can explain this. Im 15 5"8 112 pounds one of those people who can eat whatever and stay skinny, but regardless I started conditioning for track, i have never really ran before but i wanted to do a sport so i gave it a go. Me and a friend ran 4 days for a pretty long distance for us, it was more of a run/walk/jog but every time was for 3 or 4 miles. The next days i was sore, which was expected but then i had this weird pain on my inner ankles both of them in the same spot, i figured it would go away I stopped running and decided to give it a rest everyday it would get worse, I haven't ran in almost 1wk and half and my ankles have gotten to the point of being swollen and so sore it is getting unbearable to walk. I have rested, iced, ace bandages everything nothing is working, i even went to the doctor and they didn't say anything helpful just give it time. Can someone please help!?
Ankle pain..........? I'm not asking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone else has this problem... Every time I ran lately, my ankles have been hurting... Like I rolled them or something. Every day I run, though, the pain seems to get better and better. Now, before I started this running routine, I hadn't run much over the past 2 years. Is my lack of running to blame for the ankle pain? Because, like I said, its been getting better since I've been regularly running, along with my mile time and endurance. Today I barely noticed the pain at all, whereas a few weeks ago it would cause me to stop running after about half a mile. I've also had a problem with side stitches, which seem to be improving as well. So, has anyone ever experienced anything that I've mentioned?
I have ankle pain while running? I have to jog for 3-5 minutes every morning for basketball. Especially in the past week, I have noticed ankle pain that makes it hard to do the jogging. For sprinting, I do not notice as much pain. I am a 5 foot 9 7th grader so i am really really tall for my age. I think my feet are relatively small for my heighth, could that be the problem? (I have size 10-11 feet. Some of my 1 foot shorter than me friends have that big of feet, but it is really misproportionate for them). We only have 2 more practices before winter break so she might not make us run much, and then I can see if it gets better over the break. Also, I do not think I did anything to either of them, so I doubt it is injury related.
Still get that shin splint/ankle pain when I go running!? Despite stretching and even taking some time off, I still get pain in my ankle area whenever I go running. It only occurs in my right ankle - the weaker of the two. I am in good shape and want to remain so! This nagging pain is causing me to miss my runs. I am 36 years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Help- Ankle/Leg Pain After Running? Hello- I've been running at a fairly fast pace for at least 30 minutes a day, for the last seven days. The problem is that every morning after my run (and even soonafter I stop running) my ankles - and knees, but to a lesser extent - start to noticeably hurt. Obviously the running is having some kind of negative effect- but why? I am running on an event surface, and I have not fallen or has a blatant ankle injury/twist. Every morning after the run (with the pain worsening each day), I basically have to limp around due to the fact that I cannot walk properly- the pain is less when I limp on the leg that hurts less. Also, I just noticed that one my right ankle is currently a bit swollen around the Achilles tendon. .. Quite painful. Insight, advice, etc?
Running: Interior Ankle Pain? I would like to hear any opinions on what might be going on here: I run about 5 miles and I have doing it for a few months. Yesterday I got to about the 1.5 mile mark, and suddenly I started to get a pain (under right ankle, on the interior). It progressively got worse to the point that I just stopped running and turned around. It doesn't hurt when I walk. After about 5 minutes of walking I thought I'd try it out again and it was the same deal... would be fine for a while then happen. Yesterday I iced it (along with my usual icing of my heels) and gave it a go today. It felt great up until the 1.5 mile mark. Same distance, like clockwork. Its first an uncomfortable feeling and then a burning feeling (not severe, almost like a weakness). Any runners have an idea?
Pain and numbness in ankle while running today? I just got new running shoes today and decided to test them out but as I was running my ankles started to hurt and then gradually my right foot turned completely numb. Are my new shoes the problem or is it something else?
ankle pain? when i run i have this severe pain in my ankle. i have been running around my neighborhood to train for the lacrosse season and each day the pain in my ankles gets worse. ive tried everything i can think of, i got new sneakers and checked which brand was the best with my numerous friends on the track team (they told me asics, so i got them) and ive tried streatching before i go for a jog. but nothing has helped and my ankle pain got so bad yesterday that i started crying. the pain isnt like "ive been running for a while and now my ankles are tired" its more like as soon as i speed up in walking or go up and down stairs i get this pain above the big bone on my inner ankle. its on both sides but sometimes one side feels worse the other. i dont think its sprained becuase its not swollen and its not red. it really only hurts when i run/walk up and down stairs/and squat at my locker (stupid bottom locker). i have to be able to run a 6:40 mile soon and i cant even finish one, please help
Ankle soreness/pain after running? Today has been my fourth day running one mile. I just began running, but I'm 17yrs old, Female, 150lbs. I'm in decent physical shape, and one mile is the perfect distance for me at the moment. I can run it with difficulty, but the difficulty is not overwhelming. I noticed yesterday, that my ankles hurt when I walk. They are perfectly fine if I'm running, in my running shoes, but when I walk, not in my running shoes, my ankles feel as though the muscles in the front of the ankle are sore, or strained. The pain is chronic, but not overly painful, and goes away when my muscles are warmed up. My question: Is the pain caused by weak ankle muscles? If so, will running alone strengthen them sufficiently to eventually eliminate the soreness? Is the pain caused by my shoe? I have very high arches, and the shoes I purchased were the only ones in the store with enough support. I'm naturally pigeon toed. I cant return my shoes, and my mother will not buy me a new pair until these are completely worn out. they were expensive. Is the pain caused by injury? I do not recall any event that caused me pain throughout my running, but I suppose it's possible. What do you suggest? I'm not motivated enough to stop running to let my ankles heal. If I stop running, I'll probably never start again, and that's not something I want for myself. I don't have enough money to buy new shoes, so if a shoe insert would do the trick, that would be much preferable than having to buy another pair of $100 shoes. I'm healthy, I heal fast, I've gone to the gym to lift weights and use the elliptical 4x a week for 2hrs for more than a year now... What do you think is wrong with my ankles, and what should I do about it?
HELP! ankle pain after running in new shoes.? i bought some new nike running shoes and wore them all the next day and by i ran a little in track they started hurting. they got swollen up and brused. the next day i cant move my ankles at all! and im not sure if i should stay home form school and track or not??? will it get better by its self or do i need to stay off of my ankle?!?!?! i need to know soon. i leave for school in half hour or so. thanx the next day (today) its not getting better. i talked to the school sports trainer and she said it has all the elements of a sprained ankle with out the twist. also it originally swelled up b/c of shoe but then i loosened it which allowed movement and that hurt the ligaments and tendons i guess. idk. but im not gonna go to the doctor. in the mornings it hurts like hell untill 11 or so then gets bettter. dosent stop, gets better What do we think???
Frequent running is causing severe ankle pain? I run pretty often. I try to run anywhere from 5 to 7 days out of the week. I run at least a mile & a half, no more than three and half. Anyway, yesterday I started running after two days off, and about half a mile or a mile into it, the sides of my ankles were KILLING me. So, I walked a little bit. It eased the pain a little bit, but it didn't go away. I just finished the lap then left. When I got home I had to sit down. The sides of my ankles were ROCK hard. Not the bone, the tendon/muscle. & it was on the outside. Both of them. It was kinda going up my leg a little bit. It wasn't on the back of my ankle tho. I went for another run today, but it couldn't be ten minutes into the run(I wanted to run a full hour) the pain started again. It's still hard. I've been taking some advil/anti inflammatory since the pain started. When I'm not running, the pain isn't there. It also hurts when I try to stretch it out. I stretch before every run, very well. & sometimes, I'll even run a little, then stretch some more. It's concerning me, a lot kinda. I Love to run, & I hate when something is wrong. I'm just not sure if it's serious, or if it could be simple like me overworking my muscles. & it's also that time of the month, if that makes a difference. Any advice/opinons would be greatly appreciated :)

Running and ankle pain...? Hey how goes it? Ran my first 20 mile run. Felt great except for a tingling sensation on the inside bone of the ankle. That came in at 3 miles and dissipated by 4 miles. Shook it off and kept going. Then that night that bone had off and on pain. Walking up and down stairs is alright. Just off and on pain mostly. Curious if anyone knows what this is? Thinking maybe ankle strain. Think to be carefull about this going to cut back on running till Friday. Will CT one more time, and rest the next day. Give me a break this week knocking me back about 13 miles.
ankle pain when running? every time i run or jog, tiny pops go through my ankles and they start hurting. what does this mean? should i go to a doctor?
Pain in both legs after running: inside of legs stretching from ankle to knee? I started an interval training type of program with walking/jogging combinations for 30 minutes. I run on a treadmill and have decent running shoes, but I have a horrible pain that extends from the inside of my ankle up the insides of my legs to my knee. My shins and calves feel fine. What is it, and does anyone have any suggestions for making it better besides resting?
Ankle pain from distance running? I've been having ankle pain in my left leg on the outside. its like right where my foot meets my leg in the groove there. My neighbor is a physical therapist and he looked at it he said he didnt find any ligaments or tendons but it could be a bone or just inflammed from pounding on the pavement and to take some time off. So i did i stayed inside on the stationary bike in my school for a few days an it felt better and today i tried to run on it again but it is still giving me trouble. sometimes the pain even comes up my leg a bit. Does anyones know what this could be ? please help it hurts real bad
Running with heel/ankle pain? I'm a cross-country and track runner, and I have runner's knee. I've taken care of that; however, for the past 2 weeks, my heels/ankles have been really hurting when I run. Whenever my feet pound on the ground my heel hurts. And sometimes when I pinch above the sides of my heel, I feel pain. Sometimes my achilles tendon gets tender as well. I'm taking a week off from running, going to try some stretching exercises, and my mom's calling the doctor, BUT, do you have any idea what this could be? Thank you

Durring the summer i have been running for an hour 3times a week and then have soccer games and practices. every time i run i feel this horrible pain on the inside of my right leg about 3-4inches up from my ankle. It wont bother me untill i begin to run. If I walk it is fine. I noticed pain in this area durring the spring but thought nothing of it. so far it is only getting worse. Try out for fall are getting closer and i dont know if i can run on it any more. if any one knows what this is or how it treat it it would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance!
Ankle pain and numbness while running, what might be the cause? Hi folks, Whenever I run I experience the same problem: after about 4-5 minutes on the treadmill (average speed) my left ankle becomes painful and numb. I have to stop not so much because of the pain, but because I feel I have no firm control over my foot when I plant it on the ground. It's a very strange feeling. Even after I stop running it takes a few minutes to regain full control of my ankle and be able to walk normally again. I went to the GP, had an x-ray done, everything's ok. He gave me ibuprofen pills & cream and advised me to rest for a while (which I did), still no change. Please help, I don't know what else I can do. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I had the same ankle sprained around age 8 and had my foot in a cast for about 3 weeks, but never had any issues after that. As a teenager I was able to play basketball and practice martial arts (not professionally, but still at a fairly high amateur level) without any problem. Now I'm 31 years old, 1.84 m high, 86 kg.
Ankle Pain after Walking or Running?? After i Walk or Run i get this pain in my ankle but it doesn't hurt when i walk or run only afterwards and i can feel like a lump where it hurts and when i press on it, it hurts and it happens in both ankles but more in the left one What can this be?
Pain above ankle when running? I have been weight lifting for a couple of months but now I want to start to burn off some fat. I recently started running long distances but soon after I start I get an extreme pain under the calf on both of my legs and it goes down to my feet. I have always been in shape, I played footbal and basketball in highschool and it never hapend then nor did it hapen when squatting in the gym. What is causing the pain and how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance Ryan
Ankle Pain after Running? I started getting back into running after a bone contusion in my knee. I'm a distance runner and jumped into running 25 to 35 miles a week. After a run last week, my left foot and ankle were stiff. I took a couple days off and went for a 9 mile run on Saturday. Afterward, I could hardly walk. The stiffness and pain came back. I haven't run for three days and the pain seems to have localized to the left inner ankle. When I touch the area it hurts, but I can walk better and do Spin classes. It's really stiff in the morning, but loosens up as the day goes on. I'm thinking that this is some sort of tendinitis. Any ideas? What should I do about it?
cure for ankle pain while running? OK so i am 14 years old, 115 pounds, and 5 feet 10 inches tall. and for as long as i remember, every time i started a sport season, about 1-2 weeks after practices started i get really bad ankle and sometimes knee pain and its gotten worse as i got older. the pain will usually go away or at least get more bearable 3-4 weeks after the pain starts. But thats too long and it hurts too much. for example football started 2 weeks ago and i signed up for the third year. i got new cleats and i bought a Dr. Sholes sports insole, the cleats aren't too small either so that's not the problem. but like always 2 weeks after practices start i have really bad ankle pain when i sprint, and since practice is pretty much nonstop sprinting it hurts really really bad, after i sprint i can barely even stand up because of the pain. please please help me i like sports but i can't stand the pain anymore.
Ankle pain when running? Help please!? So I ran my first half marathon last year and due to a move across country ended up taking a prolonged break from running a few months after (which I regret TREMENDOUSLY). I'm now trying to get back into the running shape I was in and think I may need to alter my stride. I've been having great pain in the front of my leg where it reaches the ankle..not sure what this muscle would technically be. After the first mile or so it's starting to feel impossible to lift the front of my foot, kind of like my feet are blocks that i'm just pulling along. If you know what my problem is/what muscle I need to build or stretch/how to fix my stride pleaseeee help!
High Ankle pain when running? Well, to get back into shape I've been running more than I ever have. The only problem is that my feet are shaped where they are always "rolling" inward., which was a huge reason why I rarely ran before that. After one of those (about 3 weeks ago), I swam in a local pool instead for my cardio. Anyway when it got too cold to swim I got back to running, there is still pain in the left area between an inch and three inches above my left ankle (on the outside) It has gotten so severe that it hurts when i walk from class to class. What is wrong and what can I do about it? PS. if you need more info about it i would be glad to provide it. And for future reference, do you know what the scientific name for the area I'm talking about is called?
XC running ankle pain, how much should i tolerate? Its my first year of CC and I didn't know we were supposed to run during summer, so i started out running 4.5 miles a day. I got a small case of shin splints but then the growth plate in my heel started getting swollen. I was biking for like 2.5 weeks for cross training. I did something to my peroneal tendon, its discolored like bruising and when im done running its a little swollen. My parents don't really want to take me back to the dr. because its so expensive. How much pain should i tolerate? I really really want to keep running because i've been off for so long. Will i just make it worse?

Cause of and cure for ankle pain from running? I have been training for a race and increasing my mileage as well as speed (alternately). Now I have pain in my medial ankle, posterior to the bone that sticks out, if that makes sense. I do tend to overpronate. It's not swollen, just bothersome with or without weight on it. What is the likely cause? How can I try to help it? When can I get back to training? This is my most common running injury, how can I prevent it from happening again as my training increases?
Ankle pains after running and during basketball play, why? Lately I have been exercising, for exmaple running, jump rope, calf raises, basketball, squats. Usually after running or basketball I start to have this sharp pain on the left side of my right ankle and on the right side of my left ankle, and it gets very annoying because it starts to slow me down whether I am running to the hoop for a layup, or done with a run. Could it be because I have weak ankles, do I need to ice my ankles. I am 15, 175 pounds, 5'8''

Ankle pain when running? Hi, When I start running I get a sharp pain going through my right ankle. Sometime it is so severe that it makes me wince and I have to stop. I am at a normal weight for my height and it does not hurt when just walking. Any ideas as to what it could be and what I could do to stop it? Many thanks.
Knee and ankle pain from running? I just started running track a week ago, but now as the workouts are harder I have started to feel a really bad shooting pain in my knee and both of my ankles anytime i try to walk or run. What is this, and what is the best way to get rid of it? Should i stop running or just continue until it goes away
Ankle pain after running? Track practice just started again this year. I am a freshman and this is my third year. Every year since i started i got horrible ankle pain that lasted the entire season. I am athletic, and don't weigh much. But when we started running today the pain started like it has in the past. Its mostly in my right foot. It seems around the area in between the Calcaneofibular Ligament and the Anterior Talofibular Ligament is where the most pain is. (according to this: http://rightfoot.com.au/ankle-pain) Whenever pressure is put on my ankle the pain is terrible. I cant run on the balls of my feet because of the pain so i need to run or walk trying to put most of the pressure on my heel. I have fine running shoes, I always stretch my legs and ankles, and I've been soaking them in hot water (in the past i would ice them) and nothing seems to help. Thanks for your help
Heel/Ankle pain from running? So I'm a newbie basically. My cross country (3 km) was in a week so I decided to do some jogging practice, not being too flash at running. I mean I'm okay, but yeah. So I was running and after the second day, my heel started hurting after I ran, and on the third day I found it virtually impossible to continue my training. My dad said I shouldn't be running flat footed, but instead on the ball of my foot, because otherwise there's too much pressure on my heel. So I tried that, but that makes it feel worse even though my heel isn't even touching the ground! It's now 2-3 days later, and I ran maybe 15 metres, across the road, on the ball of my foot like my dad said, and after a few meters it hurt so much, like a piercing pain not in my heel, just above it, on the side of my foot, on the inside. it doesn't hurt when I press it, unless I press it really hard. i have been trying to rest my foot, and not to run, but my cross country is on friday, and it is tuesday afternoon!!!! it isn't abnormally coloured and there isn't a lump or anything...
Overweight, running, ankle pain? Hello all. I am 43 years old and have done my share of running when I was younger, but have not run for the past ten years. I have let myself go over the years and am now about 80 pounds overweight. I started slowly, walking, then not running a few minutes followed by brisk walking for a few minutes. Apparently there is still some stamina under my weight since I can now run a mile or so without having to slow to a walk. I started about three weeks ago. Anyway, my ankles hurt a lot! Motrin takes care of it but the pain never seems to go away. When I run, it seems to "loosen up" somewhat, but it is always there. Has anyone had similar problem? Are my ankles just getting stronger? Will it get better? Am I starting out too hard? BTW, I have been cleared for exercise by my doctor.
What shoe is best for relieving knee and ankle pain when running/working out? I have quite some pain in my knees and ankles when I work out and it's because of my weight. I just need something to relieve this pain a bit more so I can actually work out and not stop every 5 seconds due to extreme pains. Appreciate it if someone could tell me about this topic, and I also hear zig tech shoes are good?
What should i do for ankle pain in inner ankle and shin? Bad knee/ankle pain after running? Both knee and ankle hurt during my run, and i cant sprint because of the pain. then, after i stop running, i get a horrible pain in my knee that shoots down my leg and into my ankle. it doesnt feel like a muscle, and its been hurting about a week and 1/2. it hurts on the inside of my knee mostly, by the kneecap, and also a little on the top part. my foot hurts around ankle and back of heel. ive been icing for a while, but it doesnt seem to help much once i start running again. please help? do u know what it is or how i can ease the pain? it also hurts on a point on the side of my knee, just on one point when i touch it. and i cant bend my knee back past about a 90 degree angle, and i cant sit down on my knees all the way, its too painful.
lower leg and ankle pain from running? The past 6 months or so I have been getting really sore legs when i run. It's ok it I have a few weeks off but then when I start again the pain comes back. I don't run long distances (usually only 3km or so.) after having a few weeks without running i was able to do 6km without my legs hurting. also i usually just run on the tredmil. Today it was really bad. As soon as i started running my legs started to hurt and when i stoped after 20 minutes I could barely walk. My ankles and shins were so sore! Is this normal and just something I have to push through or should I be seeing a specialist about it? I don't want to stop running I really enjoy it. If anything I would like to be doing more. I thought it may have been because i needed new shoes but i just bought some and nothing has changed. And I always buy good quality running shoes
knee and ankle pain after running? I started running again about 3 weeks ago and ever since I have had knee and ankle pain. When I step out of bed in the morning my ankles feel tight and it takes a good 10 steps before they feel ok to walk on. When i first start running both my knees and ankles bother me for a good 5 minutes and then the pain goes away for the rest of my run. When I'm done running the pain comes back again. It feels like my ankles have a lot of pressure and then my knees just ache. I bought new shoes and very expensive ones to make sure it wasn't the shoes i was wearing. Any ideas what this is or what i can do to make this go away? I don't want to stop running.
Ankle pain spreads to Calf after a week? Hi guys, my brother is facing a serious problem. He faced ankle pain after running 2.4KM two weeks ago and now, the pain advanced to his calf. What could be the problem? Thanks for thoughtful answers. Thank you sis.
Ankle Pain from running please help? Ok so i am a 21 year old male who started working out barely a month ago. I JOGGED a few times and my ankle was fine. Then a week ago i ran really fast and after my left ankle was really sore and painful. I felt a sharp pain and could barely put pressure on it for a few days. Went to the dr and did an X-Ray and it came back ok. Nothing wrong. I also have gained about 30 pounds over the last year through bodybuilding. Not so much my legs or ankles just upper part of my body. So i dont know if maybe it is becuase of the weight change and that my ankle hurt. When i run i DO NOT have a good running shoe since i barely started. So do you think any of those can be the problem or do you think its something like a torn tendon?
Ankle pain when running? When ever I run I have to stop for 5 minutes after 30 minutes because my left ankle always gets sooo sore! I feel like I could run for hours if I could prevent this pain! When I try to walk it out after half an hour it's more painful then running! Before I run I always stretch for at least 10 minutes then it's off to the treadmill. Is there a specific stretch for your ankles? Should I go to the doctor to figure this out? It gets worse when I run daily!
Just started running again. Ankle pain after? I'm 21 and I just started running again. I ran a little when I was 18-19, about 10-20 miles a week, depending on my schedule. Then I stopped and haven't ran in about two years. So I decided to start running again. First day I walked 5 minutes, ran 10, walked 5, ran 10, and walked 5, around 3 miles total. I wasn't sore or anything after. I felt great. The next day(yesterday) I took a break and didn't do anything. Today I walked 5, ran 10, walked 5, ran 10, and walked/cooled down 5. And towards the end my ankle felt a little different but wasn't hurting. When I started to walk away from the machine, it started to hurt a little as a walk. It's my left foot only but I think I remember something like this happening to my right foot too years ago. It only hurts in certain positions when I flex the muscle. It doesn't seem like a "sprained" kind of hurt but I don't know. I hurts around that "bump" on the outside of my ankle(not sure what the bone or whatever is called). Mostly in front and above it. It hurts the most when I try to point my toes away from myself. It's not a bad pain. I can still walk without limping or anything. Is this because my ankle wasn't ready for this much running? It was fine the first day but not on the second. Or maybe my shoes? But I wore the same running shoes I've always worn. Does someone know what this is? And should I stop running until the pain goes away?
Pain in ankle and inner thigh when running? So I am a new runner, I have been running for about an hour for 4 days but now I've noticed I am having ankle pain (sort of above and to the right on the right foot and to the left on the left foot) and also pain in my inner thigh. I have been running in regular shoes but have recently bought some running shoes that fit me quite well and are very flexible, although I still notice pain, is there any way to prevent this? Or should I just power though?
Ankle pain when im running? I am 13 and when i run my ankle hurts. I try to handle the pain but then the pain start to go to my knee. I was planning to join cross country but i think i would be the slowest because of my ankle.
Ankle pain while long distance running...? I'm a 16 year old boy and I've always been into long distance running, since I was 13 and I've always been reasonably good at it; however, recently I noticed one day while I was running my left ankle would have a shot of pain every so often. It's only in my left ankle and the pain strikes just as I put pressure and/or force onto my foot to push off it (only after I have been running continuously for about 5-10 minutes). It's relatively hard to describe the location of the pain, but it's focused (sorry for the insanely incorrect terms here--->) to the bottom back corner of the pointy/protruding dome-like bone on each side of the ankle, focused right in the centre there. It FEELS like a bone-type pain. The only way I can describe the pain is that it feels like it should be cracked, like the way one might stretch and purposely crack their fingers. It feels as if I was to flick my ankle in the right way, the location of the pain would pop or crack just like cracking your fingers and it would be relieved. Of course I'm sure that's not the case, but that's the closest I can describe it to, like the feeling the split second before you crack a bone in your body somewhere, but with pain. It becomes more and more painful and occurs more frequently the longer I run after I feel the first shot of pain. Once I stop running and walk or stop completely, the pain goes away. So I can be running, then the pain arrives and all that I said before happens, then I can stop, have a 30 minute break and run again for another 5 (but no more than 5) minutes before the pain comes back again. If I don't run for a couple of weeks, it takes longer for the pain to arrive so I can run for longer without any pain in my ankle, but it ALWAYS does come back eventually. It's also very specific, I can have the pain after running for example 7 minutes and I can.... say jump and land on my left leg and not have my knee bent and my ankle won't hurt, it only hurts when I bend my leg while applying enough pressure of force. So it hurts more when on flat or running uphill when my leg is a lot more bent, as opposed to running downhill when my leg does not bend as much. We thought it might have been a stretched Achilles tendon, although I have looked at diagrams and the physiology of the ankle and leg and the pain is too low for me to believe that it is my Achilles ankle and like I said, it feels like a bone-type pain. Anyone know anything that seems to resemble this fairly closely? Remembering that I have been running for years and I've never had a problem like this. I have a 5km cross country in about 2 days and I want to know what this pain is.... The terrain on which I run on has been relatively consistent, on grass (beside the road) or on the road.... whether the slant in the road has anything to do with it, I don't know because wouldn't it then affect my right ankle too?... I apologize for the mass amount of words but, the more specific the better right?... hahah..
Ankle pain only when running? I am currently an everyday runner and a soccer player. Three weeks ago, I was kicked on the ankle VERY hard. I continued to play but the day after, the pain was excruciating. Now, there is no pain when I walk, but when I start playing soccer or running the pain returns. What is wrong and will my leg be able to play with full potential again? I don't want to go to the hospital or doctor. Thanks for all the help!
How to stop ankle pain while running? I've been running for a little over a month now doing the couch-to-5k program and lately I have a lot of ankle pain (both ankles) when I run. I know it's not my shoes because I have the same pain when I run barefoot (just in the house, someone said it might be my shoes and to try that so I did.) I had to cut my last workout short because the pain got so bad. What can I do for the pain so I don't have to keep cutting my workouts short?
