Fibromyalgia and Medications? Right now, I'm taking Elavil at night which doesn't seem to be working like my Trazadone used to and we are probably going to change my antidepressant (Prozac) which I've been on for years. I also have Soma and 50mg tabs of Vicodin. They don't seem to even take the edge off the pain. Will you please fill me in on what other meds I might try for pain, tiredness? I'm going to meet with my doctor within the next couple of weeks.
I am looking for a Dr that treats fibromyalgia with pain medication? I have been battling Fibromyalgia for 20+ years now. My Dr in New Orleans had me on a regiment that worked but Doctors in Austin automatically assume that you are a drug addict looking for a "fix". Is there a Dr here that is knowledgeable of Fibromyalgia and not afraid of prescribing meds?
Please Help with Fibromyalgia, my hair is falling out, what medication should I take? Im scared.? This weekend I have been to the ER two times, in 24hrs. I had 18 tubes of blood taken out, with neck xrays. All were negative. The last doctor who saw me mentioned Fibromyalgia. I had and still have tons of stess in my life, which may cause this. I had to quit my job, due to fatigue, tremors, and pain in my joints and muscles. What is the best thing to do for Fibromyalgia, diet, medications? What should I take for my hair loss? I just turned 31 the day he mentioned this to me. Im scared, please help Thank you Amy
Fibromyalgia medication help.? I have recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I also have Rheumatoid arthritis. I'm 32 and mother of 2. My Rheumatologist perscribed Lyrica but the insurance co. is refusing to cover it even at the Dr. written request! (Don't get me started on this one!) Is there any medication that anyone has tried that they think works on the pain? I have Darvocet but rarely take it because I need to function, besides it really doesn't help much. I take Tylenol Arthritis also. I get such terrible flareups that I can barely function. I lost my career (firefighter) because I didn't feel I could function safely and not be a liability and then had to quit my job as a server because it was too much on my joints. I could really use some advice and hear personal experience with different meds/home remedies. Thanks!
What medication are you on for Fibromyalgia? I have had FMS for 3 yrs now and feel like I have been going round in circles. My doc has given me Amitriptyline (sp) and citalopam but neither really seem to make much difference. When I asked my doc today she said there are no other meds available as FMS is still not really known about.I'm frustrated!!
I think i might have chronic faitgue syndrome or fibromyalgia. how can i tell the difference? I have been sick since late october early november. So far, the doctors have not been able to diagnose anything and have basically been putting me on random medications just to relieve the symptoms. I have missed 28 days of school since I first began getting sick and I can only miss two more before the end of school. I'm only fifteen. Symptoms I have: Fatigue (sleeping thirteen hours +) i have real trouble making it through a school day without falling asleep) exhaustion pain in my knees, ankles, and weirdly my elbows. headaches congestion ive had a fever a couple times.. ive been really nauseous occasionally and ende up having to go to the ER because of it. Does anyone who has CFS or Fibromyalgia identify with these symptoms or know of any other possible causes? p.s. All blood tests have come up normal, and I dont have rashes or bruising on my body.
Has anybody had any luck with fibromyalgia treatments without going broke in the process? I've had fibromyalgia since 1991 and have been treated with P.T., medications (tramadol, elavil, clonopin, & lorab), stretching, massage therapy (when I can afford it), and some biofeedback. My neck and back are so tied in knots it feels like concrete. My current regiman barely gets me by. I have worked steadily since diagnosed, and done some pretty physical type jobs. I do believe staying active is much better than laying around feeling sorry for myself. It helps me take my mind off of the pain if I keep busy. I couldn't afford to live on disability even if I wanted to, lol. I have tried tens units, and water aerobics/therepy without any relief. I am curious about yoga being a possible help to me.
I take 3 medications daily for depression, narcolepsy, and fibromyalgia. They are Celexa, Provigil,? and Cymbalta. They are helping. My problem is that I am always feeing very overheated and I sweat a lot...this never used to be a problem for me. When everyone else is feeing comfortable, I am sweating buckets.. On hot, humid days like today, I have to stay inside where it is cool or I am more than just miserable, I feel physically ill. Does anyone else have this problem? Have you found anything that helps? Thanks for any advice that you can give me. Thanks for the input. I have my thyroid tested yearly and it's always normal. I have suffered from depression, mild narcolepsy and fibromyalgia for at least 35 years (but not diagnosed) but have only been taking meds for 5 years. The Provigil (for narcolepsy) and Cymbalta (for fibromyalgia) are recent additions. Provigil for 1 year and Cymbalta about 3 mos. at 60 mg. I do have a Dr's. appt. next wk and I will certainly ask if I should be on all 3 drugs.
what has worked best for fibromyalgia pain? i have been disabled from fibromyalgia for the last 5 years. i have been on triger point injections, antidepresants, muscle relaxers, and numerous other medications. i have tried the over the counter medications and all the natural things made for fibromyalgia. i excercise regularly but i still have so much pain. i was just wondering if any one has found anything that maybe i havent tried.
Does anyone out there have Fibromyalgia? Does anyone have Fibromyalgia or know anyone with it? I have it and cannot take pain medications as I am allergic to them. Does anyone know any alternative treatments I can try? Do you find that your pain goes in cycles? Do any of you experience a burning sensation anywhere? I have it in my back and chest and stomach and don't know yet how to deal with it. I also get VERY tired dealing with this pain all the time. Any suggestions?
If you have fibromyalgia, how can you get into delta sleep without medication? I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago; my doctor discovered that a lot of my symptoms were caused by my body not reaching deep sleep during the night. I was put on Elavil (Amitriptyline) to assist in reaching the delta stage of sleep. However, due to the side effects, I no longer want to take the Elavil. I am sure there must be a way to train my body to enter deep sleep, but am not sure how to go about it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :)
If anyone has fibromyalgia maybe you can help me? I have fibromyalgia and I am suffering more than I ever have, I live in PA and was on the access card but they claim I am no longer able to get their help. So now I have no insurance and can not afford my medication nor Doctor's appointments. So does anyone have any help for me?
How do you get a reluctant Doctor to prescribe weight loss medications? I am 5ft2 and almost 200 pounds. I have a hard time losing weight through excersise because I have severe Fibromyalgia. I eat a very good diet of 1,000 calories a day but although I am not gaining I am not losing either. My doctor says he doesnt like to prescribe any weight loss meds to anyone. I do not want to go see another doc because this current one is so good with my other illnesses and it is in my contract that if i see anyone else, he will not see me anymore. What do I do?? Help! Ive decided to add some more on this post to thank you all so far for your input and helpful advice. I have a Response for "M's" question. Most doctors who deal exclusively with pain management will have their patients sign this sort of contract. It pretty much just means that since they are handaling all of the intricate specifics of your unique case that it would not be benificial and would cause much confusion to bring in other doctors without his permission first. If you, the patient wish to see a different doctor than your pain management doctor , you are more than welcome to a second opinion or whatever you are seeking but it is in your primary pain management care providers discretion to see you or to (more than likely ) not to see you as a patient again. Thanx for listening and responding.
Has anyone else been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I have been recently diagnosed with this very painful condition and am taking three different medications for my pain and nerves. I also do yoga, swim, and some cardio to help strengthen my muscles but it's still hard and the side effects of the Neurontin is scary. I also take Cymbalta and Day Pro. Once a week, I get a B-12 shot because it's low and my doctor thinks it would help restore my body. So, please give me some feedback.
other than chronic pain disorder/fibromyalgia, what is it called when you have pain at:? i've had many accidents in my life. i've injured many areas of my body and then got diagnosed with both chronic pain disorder as well as "borderline" fibromyalgia. one of the medications i have taken for so long is amitriptilyne (elevil), one 25 mg./night. in the past 6 to 9 months, i have been experiencing, daily, a pain all over my body (but not in my torso itself) whereby it feels like the fascia that holds the musles and tendons on the bones aches. what is this condition? what is done to treat it? my doctor already doubled the dose of elevil that i take each night. it only helps a little bit. i do NOT have arthritis and do not need a rheumatologist. what else could this be?
I have a pharmacy question about medications? My mom has been on Effexor and Prednisone for Fibromyalgia and Scleroderma. Recently, she started having sugar problems and they put her on Amaryl? Can these three drugs be taken together? She has been nauseated since she started the insulin pill a few weeks ago.
what do you thing causes or worsen Fibromyalgia? I know it is not proved but Those of us that live with it are sure to be trying to solve this mystery for ourselves. Do you think it was medication you have taken? A car accident? Do you remember when the symptoms started?
What foods are BEST to eat when you have Fibromyalgia & Fatigue? I have been diagnosed with Fibro&Fatigue and am wondering if anyone else who has this has found foods that help or even foods that make the condition worse. I am trying to find out everything I can about this disease and what I can do to help the symptoms on my own. I am not a big fan of mediciations over a long period of time. Also, what are techniques you use to sleep better at night? Without medication I currently wake up feeling exhausted!
Medication for Fibromyalgia? Does anyone else take Amitriptyline for Fibromyalgia? I have struggled to sleep with pains and soreness in my arms and shoulders and have been on these for a month now. I find that i sleep so much better and wake up with much less pain and soreness in the morning. I have tried lots of different anti-inflammatory pain killers in the past voltarol, ibuprofen e.t.c but they did nothing at all.
I have been diagnose with fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis. Does anyone use a natural treatment that helps? I wake up many times during the night in pain. My joints and muscles hurt from head to toe most of the time. I stay tired all the time. My iron level stays low. I am currently on prescribe medication which only helps a little. I really do not like to take medicine and especially when the doctors tells me I have to be on it for the rest of my life. I have tried several different natural remedies but nothing seems to work. I was hoping someone else with these diagnoses has found the miracle cure for this. Thank you and wish you always with good health.
Has anyone tried the new medication that came out for fibromyalgia. It's called Lyrica.? And if you have tried it, have you had any side effects? Me, I had pain in my ankles, my body was feeling achy and very sleepy. I thought that this pill was suppose to relieve the pain. Not make you feel worse. Also, I was not concentrating very well on things. I had to stop taking it before I got worse. Now I have to wait for something else. I was hoping that this pill would of relieve the pain. Thankyou very much for your answers. May God bless all of you and Happy Holidays.
Medications for Lupus Erythematosus and Fibromyalgia? I have a neice who has Fibromyalgia and Lupus and has been living with it for quite sometime. The medications she takes is Medrol, Imuran, Plaquenil, Boniva and Tylenol #4 (For Pain). She fights with depression and often states that she is in pain ALL THE TIME. While, I do not doubt what she says because she has the physical symptoms. Twisted fingers (such as in Rheumatoid Arthritis), constant swelling, etc. However, here lately, her specialist has prescribed her "muscle relaxers" such as Soma, Neurontin and even Xanax, all of which, she states she has taken 1 or 2 times. When I ask her why doesn't she take them, she states that she doesn't like to feel "down"! She states that when taking them she feels drowsy and she feels like she is in another world. And, the next day upon awakening, she doesn't feel like herself. My question to the yahoo community is, does anyone know of any other medication or any other way to treat this horrible, horrible disease. More recently, she has been talking about not taking her medication at all, NONE OF IT! She states that she is tired of taking all medication and she can't remember her life without pain! She takes the tylenol #4 3x's per day (physician ordered) and that does seem to help her somewhat. However, she is seeking a physician in the Michigan area she says that will really, really treat her and not just want to throw more pills @ her. As stated, does anyone in the yahoo community have anymore answers? Maybe there are herbal remedies? Maybe there is another medication that can be suggested? My more urgent concern is that she seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into depression. And from a few of my friends here in the area, I am told that some people with chronic illnesses tend to fight with depression? It never hurts to ask and would greatly appreciate any answers!!!
I have fibromyalgia and want to get a tattoo. Will it hurt worse than normal? I've been recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I've been wanting to get a tattoo for almost a year now. It usually hurts worse in my shoulders and mid-lower back. I want to get a tattoo of wings at the top of my back and flowers going up my side. I'm not on any medications for it and I'm not getting any treatment. Is it going to hurt worse because of what I have or what?

How to relieve Fibromyalgia? I have a friend with severe Fibromyalgia and was wondering if there were any natural remedies or vitamins or treatments like a massage or something that could help relieve his pain? He's 15 so the doctor doesn't want to pump him full of medication.. Thanks guys!
What type of medication do you take for Fibromyalgia? I know most of you probably don't even know what this is, but it's a disease that effects the joints and muscles, and it is very painful. My doctor has me on Altrum & it barely takes the edge off the pain. I have heard that many patients are on much stronger medication, so I thought I'd see what others are doing.
Has anyone been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and receiving treatment for it? My PCP is in the process of finding out if I truly have Fibromyalgia and have a few questions for you.............. 1. How were you diagnosed? Tests? Labs? 2. Are you being treated by your PCP or a specialist? 3. What medications are you taking to control the symptoms and do they work? 4. What symptoms do you have? 5. How long have you had it? Thanks for your answers !!! Have a good day !!!
Fibromyalgia medication - Lyrica. Is it really effective? My mother has Fibromyalgia. She takes 80mg of Methathadone per day for her chronic pain(her Fibromyalgia is a SEVERE case), she also takes Lyrica (a low dose, as her doctor told her) and she has been taking Lyrica for about 6 months now. When I ask her if it helps with the pain, all she says it makes her feel as if she's high, but it also makes her nerves tingle(implying that it must do something to the nerves that cause the pain) but she is still unable to tell if the Lyrica is actually helping ease her pain. DOES the medication Lyrica really work? and for those that use it, I would like to know how many mg you take daily.
What medication works best for your fibromyalgia? I am taking Neurontin 900mg every 8 hours but even though it is kinda working my pain is still severe and I dont know what else to do. I have a appt tomorrow and I was just looking for something else to try, maybe mix with the Neurontin. Thanks
can people with chronic pain stay in control when treating with narcotic pain medications? I have had severe chronic pain due to fibromyalgia for 20+ yrs. I cannot function without the medication but my tolerance has gotten so high that my regular dose isnt helping anymore. Ive started taking more than prescribed and struggle with it every day. I am addicted but have to have this medicine. How do I keep it under control? Im scared. If I keep messing up my doc is going to cut me off.

I asked them to prescribe something cheaper, and they said they would write me for Effexor. However, what I actually got was Bupropion (Wellbutrin generic). Can anyone who has this disorder help me? Has anyone taken any of these medications, and can tell me which works best, or if there is another option? Im kind of clueless and lost :( JMITW: Im unfamiliar with all of the jargon you used; I just got confused :s Shari: You have given me much more information than I found on the internet; rather, I found so much on the internet that I was feeling very overwhelmed.
